After my horrendous eating last week of 4 pints Ben & Jerry's and countless peanut butter and honey sandwiches, I am down to 132.5 this morning. My lowest weight in years. I was weighing in at 136 just a week ago.
Hmmmm - newest diet book / craze? The "ice cream and pb / honey sandwich diet"???
Oh yeah, and throw in near bedrest for the workout part of the program
I think this is what happened to me when I went on my business trip too. I ate like a pig and all sorts of fats and I lost weight and lots of it too (like 2 lbs). It was weird. I think the body burns faster when you shock it with binges after being so consistent. At least that is my theory....

Thanks, Celeste. Just let me hold out for one more week and see if I can keep it down.

Sounds like the ultimate diet to me! Was not minding the bedrest for workout part at all.

Thank you, Karen. I was sure I was going to go the other direction.

It is weird. I wondered, too, if perhaps I was burning more those first few days due to the stress from the accident. I wish I had been wearing my BodyBugg through it all...that would have been interesting to see the changes as my body coped with the stress.
I was telling our overweight receptionist here at work about the unexpected weight loss after all that indiscriminate eating and she started lecturing me on the laws of thermodynamics!
must have missed any discussion about your son's artwork, but i just followed the link - he's amazing!! is he still in school? where? my son is studying computer animation at ringling college of art and design - he's a sophomore this year. those kids (mine, yours & this generation of artists) are amazing - can't wait to see what they all do when they graduate!

Thank you, Karen. Yes, he's still in school. He goes to Art Center School of Design in Pasadena. I'm not actually sure how much time he has remaining. Since they have so much work crammed into each semester they take semesters off here and there to continue honing their skills. I'm also not sure which track he has chosen, or if he has yet. When he takes time off he works for his uncle's graphic design business which is located inside CBS studios. He gets to design props (like the made up comic book covers, for instance). It gives him the freedom to really express his creativity since the items are used as props are not closely scrutinized. He definitely gets his artistic abilities from his father (my ex). I have a daughter who leans in that direction as well, but she has her own unique style and isn't doing anything formal with it yet.
How old is your son and where is Ringling College of Art and Design?
thanks, kathy. ringling is in sarasota (summer home of the ringling circus) and hayden is 19.
wow - the prop work sounds like lots of fun - bet he loves it. and i'm sure he likes having the opportunity to do something "real" rather than class assignments. terrible how unresponsive they get at that age - if it weren't for facebook, i'd never know what my son was up to!
My son is 25. He initially joined the Air National Guard so he could use the GI bill to pay for school, started school shortly after, and he's been living on his own in Pasadena for the last 4 years. I think it the GI bill helped with community college and that's about it. I know what you mean about keeping up...I got a Myspace account for the same reason. Recently, my parents got me using Skype to have free face to face conversations and I've used it to talk to my daughters who both share a house up in Oregon. It is really a lot of fun and is really so close to 'being there.'
Yeah, he does have a lot of fun with the prop work and he is put on the spot to produce quickly, so it is great training for the future.
I saw my doctor yesterday and got some pretty exciting news. We looked at my ER x-rays and I saw the compression. It is SO slight. He explained that once you have a compression fracture, you always have it. It will not change meaning it won't get better (i.e., the vertebrae remains in its newly compressed state), but it won't get worse. He said if it isn't causing me any trouble now there is no reason to think it ever will...unless I hurt myself again. So, I don't have to wait any doctor-specified period of time for it to 'heal.' As long as I am not having any pain there is no reason why I can't resume my weight training. He did say he would wait until my muscular pain is gone before I start the heavy lifting. But that is so minimal at this point. Really...I have a couple of tight areas in the muscles on the left side of my spine and a knot, but nothing that is causing me actual pain, just a tinge of mild discomfort. I have been foam rolling these areas and I think I will give it another week, but by then I should be able to resume training. I'll pick up where I left off...the first Stage 2 workout. I'm going to try using 35 lb. db's for the step ups and see how that goes.
Way good news. I bet it feels great to know you'll be back to lifting soon.

Thank you for your comments. I tried to stay off as much as I could this weekend. My house is a mess...I've fallen off Flylady's wagon and I'm having trouble climbing back on. Anyway, it has been great not having to worry about moving weights around while working with clients, especially when I'm teaching men how to deadlift. Hard to demo without actual weight and since they were telling me nothing over 20 lbs. before I couldn't even pick up the damn bar. I may resume Stage 2 tomorrow (Ceebee, I'm starting over with Stage 2 since I was in the middle of my first Stage 2 workout when I got hurt).
I'm posting my pics here to make sure they look right before I post everything on the challenge thread. I am using tomorrow mornings measurements. Again, no dramatic changes in the pics and my weight is up. The first couple of months pictures came pre-period and this month they come smack in the middle. My weight is UP and I think it shows in my belly.
Kathy--you don't have far to go at all, which is great, but it means differences are less dramatic in pics. You definitely are slimmer in the hip and "love handle" area (not that you have any lol!!) Great job with all you endured this month!

Thanks, Celeste. It's funny, not that I mean to compare because I don't think we really can, but earlier today I was noting how similar our measurements are and wondering why the hell you look so much slimmer than me. LOL. I just have never, ever had a flat tummy and I'm bound and determined to get one, damn it! I have to add that my bf looked at my pics after I uploaded them (and he took them) and he said that my legs look a lot bigger in the pics. He even went so far as to tell me the camera putting 15 lbs. on me. So, imagine me 15 lbs. lighter...lol.
Earlier in your log, you had commented on T pushups feeling easier than regular pushups. I've tried the T version and I agree. Surprisingly they are easier.

Hi ceebee--My pain is gone. I have a knot on the left side that is sore when I rub it, but it is getting smaller. Thanks for asking. I did a yoga class on Monday evening and had no problem at all. It was my first yoga class in over a year so I wasn't sure how I would do or how it would feel on my back--all those bends--but I actually did great. In fact, I think all the strength training I've done over the past couple of years has made me better at yoga. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds T pushups easier. :-)

Really??? LOL. Wow, I wonder if I'll ever see myself that way. My bf actually has been calling me 'skinny' as I'm leaving in the morning, but clothed and naked are two different things. You know, you and I are probably pretty close, just your flatter tummy makes me feel pudgier. Considering all the kids we've both had, I think we should be proud of us.

Hi Karen. Just checking on you. How's your back feeling?
Hi Chloe--
Thanks for asking. My back seems to be stuck at sore off and on in that one area on the one side. I haven't started working out yet because I'm waiting for that achiness to go away. But now I'm thinking I might be waiting a LONG time. So, one day this week I am going to go for it and see if it makes a difference.
Okay...finally I got back to the Stage 2, 1A workout that I was doing when I injured myself. It was a little bit of a weird feeling and I was really not looking forward to doing the step ups with the dumbbells. It was okay. Anyway, I am way hesitant to go back to the barbell for now. One thing I have thought about but have been afraid to admit is that my cute Nike Free mary jane's might have--most likely--contributed to my fall. They fit a little loose and my feet slide around in them quite a bit. Since they have the single strap instead of laces I have felt a little unstable when doing lunges. I still like them for squats because of their flatness but I may have to find another shoe and just save these for when I'm working with clients.
Because I was not 100% sure of what my back would handle, I went light on the front squat push press. The day of my accident I was using 65 lbs. I did these last night with just the bar. I also wanted to really work on going ATG on the squats. I did almost, but not quite, because I had the safety bars set a little high and whenever I did truly go ATG, the bar hit the safetys and that only happened twice.
Here is how it looked:
Did a lot of Gray Cook deep squat prep warming up. I still have not seen any real improvement from these, but I'll keep at it. My right foot still shoots out sharply to the right when I squat. I'm really trying to force my knees out on the way down and that seems to help slightly. Did my mobility from Maximum Strength (walking lunges, ankle mobility, squat to stand and some foam rolling).
Warm up squat alone with bar
Front squat/push press
10x45x2
Step-ups
10x30'sx2
DB 1 pt. row
10x30'sx2
I remember these--I can't do them right--I held on to whatever was handy. The only way I think I can do them is to drop the weight to a ridiculously low weight. As it is I would normally use 35's or 40's for regular one arm db rows. And I don't feel the least bit cool doing these. I feel retarded. I'm going to hide in a corner outside of the weight room next time.
Static Lunge, rear foot elevated (I used the RDL platform, about 8" high?)
10x25'sx2
I love how the terminology for these things changes randomly. So now this is not a split squat? I thought split squat was the proper name for a static lunge?
Push-ups
10xBWx2 -- no variation, nothing special just plain old plain old
Plank
2x60s hold -- again, plain old planks
Cable Horizontal Woodchop
10x15x2
Another one of those exercise with 100 different names and as many different ways to do them correctly. I use these a lot with my clients but have not done them outside of this program. I just demonstrate them a lot.
I felt great after the workout, felt great today. Buns are sore in a very good way. Back was fine until I got back from work and stood for a while to henna my hair (sitting now with a cap and towel covering the goop on my head). Doing things like putting on my makeup and washing the dishes seem to bring on the throbbing, otherwise it feels great.
Anyway, feels great to get back in the swing. Yea! I'm looking to do B1 tomorrow.
