That is GREAT news, Kathy!! I've been thru about 10 layoffs in the last 5 years....we downsized our IT to almost nothing prior to the downturn in the economy. So, already being too lean, and with major projects looming, I *think* I am safe for a while, but one never knows. It IS scary and it makes for a very stressful life......and, for me, being on my own makes it even worse. So, that is great news for you...great news!!
Thanks, Jane. It really is scary. And like you, I'm completely self-supporting. I don't have another paycheck to count on.

Fantastic!
Thanks, Anne. Yeah, the ginger really is nice. And I love ginger snaps...I would have loved to combine the two to make a super spicy ice cream sandwich.

Hi Lori! Good to see you! Thanks! Yum, sundaes...good thing I'm too lazy to drive to the store.

Yes, the insurance thing was really stressing me especially now that I'm doing the triathlons. Yeah, I can get sick any time, but with the training I'm doing I'm really increasing the odds of winding up in the ER.
Phase 2, Week Eight (Medium), Day 4 Maximum Strength (Eric Cressey)
Speed bench press
5x3x65
then 1RM efforts:
1x80
1x85
1x90
1x95--FAIL
So, my 1RM is up 5 lbs. from the start. I'll take it.
Close Grip Bench Press
2x5x70
Chest Support Row w/ Neutral Grip
2x5x55
Inverted Row
3x10xbw
Scapular Push-up
3x15xbw
Then swimming--1275 yds total
Okay, now I suspect I am being hit on. The guy who mistook me for a trainer gave me a lot of attention tonight. I didn't want to encourage him, but he was close, so I asked him to spot me on my 1RM efforts. This is how you know you are being hit on--a lot of personal questions re where you live, how long you've lived in the area, where around here do you ride your bike. And the vibe. Much different from all the other conversations I've had with other men in the gym. Finally, he said he'd let me finish my workout and walked away. I was polite but certainly didn't want to give him the wrong idea. Now it would feel really awkward to ever consider training him.
I ran into one of my old clients and she is ready to get started again. She said she may even have her mom train with her. I have to put together my pricing and email her.
Hey girl, what's up? One of my dogpark buddies posted pics from the Hansen Dam tri and I realized I totally forgot about it! Did you do it?
Hope you're well! I've been reeeallllyyy preoccupied. Hopefully I will be back in the land of the living soon.
Yep, I did it. I had blast. The water was like a bathtub. I stayed with my boys and made them come with me at 5:00 a.m. even though they were both hung over. My parents and my brother made it as well. Nothing like triathlon bringing my family together. I thought about calling you, but didn't want to bug you without having called ahead. Anyway, my next tri is next month. Looking forward to that one, too.
Kathy, love the new avi! Awesome news that you completed the tri and you loved it! I got a laugh thinking of your kids cheering you on through hangovers--I'm sure they were very proud of you, regardless!
Great looking new avi there. Glad you had a good time.

Hey, thanks ladies! I've been kind of MIA here because of my focus on the triathlon stuff. But I am so loving it. And I'm so excited to finally have a 'action photo' from a triathlon. I did finally get in a partial MS workout on Thursday...and my thighs and butt are still sore. Sheesh. You'd think I'd hadn't lifted in months not just a couple of weeks. Hopefully, back at it and back to my regularly scheduled workouts and posting this week.
I did a local 5K muddy run yesterday. It was so much fun. I'm almost starting to like running. Scary, huh?
Hey, I'm around but for some reason haven't been making it in here. I'm still training, still lifting. Did another tri on September 12, and a 31 mile bike tour last weekend. I actually got my picture in paper for the bike ride. That was pretty cool...just me on my bike with the desert as a back drop. Doing these events lately I've learned one important lesson...when you see a camera man, smile! I had no idea who the camera man was in this case, professional or just someone's friend, but it honestly didn't occur to me that he was taking pictures for the newspaper.
The last few weeks have found my face shoved into Facebook a lot. I resisted it for so long and now I've finally been sucked in. I'm very proud of my farm and my bf is jealous--he is on the verge of getting a FB account just so he can have his own farm. But it has actually been a great way to keep up with my kids and I suckered my mother into playing Farkle. Now we have some heavy competition going.
I gave up on my Max Strength workouts after the 8th week just because I was having trouble balancing my triathlon training with heavy strength. Right now I'm actually following a program I wrote for a new client to test it out...make sure it isn't too wimpy. I am still logging, just not here. I think I just got a little burned out with logging here, logging again at beginnertriathlete while doing the training, too. I'm trying to follow a winter program to keep up my fitness for all three events with a focus on running, since that is my weakest leg. But I really want to get more strength in, too.
Lisa, it is funny you mentioned knitting. I was just telling some girls at work that it is knitting season again. I lose my motivation to knit during the hot summer months, but it is time I got those needles clicking again.
Elizabeth--happy birthday tomorrow! In case tomorrow I forget. I definitely will be coming to Pasadena very soon. Love the avi, btw.
Actually, just got back from a fun bike ride with a handful of women from our group. It was supposed to be 25 miles but was closer to 23. The first half was uphill and we were slooow, but on the way back it was all downhill and we were averaging 25 mph. That's better! I experienced my first flat tire about 4.5 miles in. Fortunately, I had my kit, a new tube and a C02 cartridge so I was able to change it on the road. It was kind of cool because I had actually had the guy at our LBS give me a lunch time lesson on how to change a flat a few months ago...and I remembered everything he taught me. It is a good feeling to know that if it happens when I'm alone I won't be stranded.
So, this ride was the same route we will be doing next weekend for a Breast Cancer Awareness ride. I'll be volunteering in the morning, then riding. Afterward Albertson's is providing lunch--fried chicken and all the crap that goes with it! LOL.
Holy SMOKES!!! I remember when you first got that bike and how it scared you to ride and how slowly you rode. Now you are hauling ass! I LOVE all of this and I bet you are looking smok'n hawt now too! Nothing like a serious goal to get serious results.
And thank you for doing the ride next weekend. I cannot see an ad for the breast cancer awareness campaign without getting teary... What a powerful and wonderful energy!

Yeah, no kidding. I rode the descents with white knuckles for sure. I am definitely more confident now, but there are plenty who smoke me in the races. As for looking "smok'n hawt" I've lost 2 or 3 pounds since I started the endurance training in March, I'm a bit leaner, but no super dramatic changes. I still have that belly fat, although Tom says it is going down and he calls me "skinny" almost daily. That's a good sign.
And re the breast cancer awareness ride--this will be my first--and it definitely gives me a good feeling to do it. So many events are for a good cause I almost feel guilty doing the ones that are just for fun. But heck, I do those, too.

It was gorgeous day today. Weather couldn't have been more perfect for running. I ran 5.1 miles at my sloooow 12+ min/mile pace.
