Hey Donna, you were a lot closer to the quake than I was, but we felt it pretty good. I think we're about 150 miles away. Anyway, it hit while I was sitting in my cubicle at work. I was hoping it would last long enough for them to decide to evacuate the building and check for damage. No such luck. Damn! Then found out it was only a 5.4 and still the news couldn't stop harping on it. I don't blame your husband, though, any quake in a highrise would be frightening...then not being used to earthquakes. They move around enough as it is when the earth is standing still.

No cardio as planned. I had a rough time completing my weight routine as my mid-back was achy. I'm sure it has to do with how I slept but I was exhausted by the time I was done with lifting. Hopefully, I can get some kickboxing done early tomorrow morning.
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne

Hey Vickie - Yes, one workout at a time. Or more specifically one meal at a time since working out isn't my issue. Gorging on fries, chips, guacamole and mojitos seem to be my cocaines
Lori - Thanks for checking on me. My back was considerably better this morning. I ended up doing 40 minutes of The FIRM's Ultimate Fat Burning Workout DVD. It was more fun than anything else as my heart rate stayed between 66-70% for most of the workout. It has some kickboxing, dancing and light dumbbell moves.
I'm going to my grandparent's house tomorrow and I need all the prayers, chants, well wishes, good vibes y'all can give me. It is hard to face that long drive (2 hours each way), the dirt road (yes, we have country roads in CA) and the silence *crickets* Why they move to Eastbumblefuck is beyond any of us?
Hi Donna, just checkin out your log! Just started opt on Tuesday and man, my hamstrings are flippin tight. Because of that, I only managed two strength workouts but all three SS cardio sessions (I really despise cardio). Figuring out the foam rollin has also been interesting
I'm looking forward to following your progress!!!
Michelle

Dabnabbit!!! As expected, I over-ate yesterday. When I go to my grandparent's house, it always happens. I ended up eating my maintainence calories And actually, I've been averaging 1940 calories per day (my target is 1740). Meh! I'm actually a little worried about a gain tomorrow
Vickie - I firmly believe that I could do well using any exercise program but if you don't have the nutrtion right, it will be all for naught. You can definitely do this.
Michelle - Girl, it was those damn ball bridges that made my hamstrings sing the blues. I looked like a little old lady trying to lower myself down on the commode without crashing The foam roller does help alot. It might hurt at first but if you stretch right after you complete your workout, it helps to loosen tension. Good luck with OPT!
Lori - The trip to the grandparent's house wasn't terrible but I was glad I went I made it home. Fortunately this time, I was smart enough to bring a book because my grandparent's tire easily so I could read a bit as they napped.
Today is a grocery shopping day. Two weeks left until my trip to Vegas for my lil sister's 30th birthday bash. I need to get my eats right and workout hard because I'd love to be at 205 (5lbs from current) by the time we leave for Sin City
ETA: Oh shit, I just realized, I'm supposed to start week 4 tomorrow. Although I plan to completely take off from lifting, I have to do some form of cardio as my NEAT because I'm at home (summer break until August 25th) and sitting on my asteroids. This realization that I'm starting week 4 is also going to change my grocery list as I need less carbs and bit more protein this coming week. D'oh!
I had a 0.5lbs gain this week. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be good given that I ate away from home too much and didn't hit my macros once. I tracked but it was all approximations. Bah! I did my fair share of exercise but it couldn't off-set the crap I ate esp. all the excess sodium. This is supposed to be a diet and recovery only week but I'm doing some cardio since I'm off work.
Not a terrible day although I needed to ditch the brown rice I had with my Pork and Black Bean Verde Stew for dinner. Today was a full rest day but I'm planning to do some floor aerobics tomorrow.
sorry you didn't see the weight loss this week. Don't have anything brilliant to say except don't give up! Keep tracking and trying really hard to hit those calorie intake goals. Oh - are you drinking a ton of water? Like a gallon at day? This was the one of the biggest changes for me when I started the program. I went from barely getting in 16-20 oz in a day to drinking a gallon. The worse part about it how you don't want to stray to far from the bathroom!!!!!!!!
Finally getting back to reading logs. I'm glad you made it through the earthquake okay.
Like others have said, try not to beat yourself up and just keep trying. It takes time to make a lot of changes in your eating habits. You are doing great!
Jen and Leah - Thanks for the words of encouragement. Although I was disappointed, I'm not quitting because I know tracking truly does work. I just have to be more vigilant about it and not give into my laziness.
I am still having trouble hitting 50% protein. I managed to eat under 1615 calories (this week's target) but my carbs and fat grams were just too high I'm going to keep plugging away at it though.
I did managed to get in a quickie 17 minute cardio kickboxing workout @ 70% avg/76% max. It felt pretty good to move as inertia was setting in from sitting too long on the computer working on my course syllabi, a conference paper and a journal article that I was supposed to finish before classes begin (so not going to happen as planned).
My lil sis is having her 30th b-day party in Vegas next week and I can't wait. I bought a semi-slutacious dress and I need some hooker ho' heels to complete the ensemble. Remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. My husband told me the other day that he thinks my sis (who lives in Texas) is going to be blown away by my progress. Last time, we saw each other, I was wearing a tight size 18 jeans (now I can slip into a 14) and between a 20/22 blouse (now a 18 and with the right bra, I can wear a 16). I've only lost a total of 10lbs but I lose inches much faster than weight. It's the curse (or blessing) of the apple shaped woman

Have a GREAT time in Vegas Donna! And of course, you MUST post some pics of you in the semi-slutacious dress and hooker ho'heels!!!
Tracey - I will definitely post pics of my tramp gear I still need to get the heels. Last time my sister and I went to Vegas for my bachelorette party, I had to delete some photos just to be sure Len would still marry me...
Mark today as a day in history that I, Donna aka Clevagirl1973, did 90 minutes of cardio in a single day during what is supposed to be a rest week. I know I said I was going to do some cardio but I don't know what came over me. This morning, I did 40 minutes of step aerobics and after the hubster got home, we went to the gym and I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the upright bike. I was sweating like a whore in church and my hair...OMG, just a big raggedy ass mess. Sweat and black women's hair do not mix (I didn't get the mixed kid benefit of having Filipina and Scots-Irish ancestry ).
I did treat myself to a manicure, pedicure and brow wax. Figure if my hair is going to look busted at least the rest could be halfway presentable.
Eats are improving...although I still can't seem to hit 50% protein and 20% carbs.
Calories: 1555 (target 1615)
Protein: 44% (target 50%)
Fat: 22% (target 30%)
Carbs: 31% (target 20%)
My semi-slutaticious dress arrived today but the fit was all wrong I have to send it back and go look for something else tomorrow. It was supposed to have a deep-V but instead it made me look pregnant
I took a full rest today. I was in no mood to do anything today. The plan for tomorrow is 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of power yoga.
Calories: 1798 (over by 184)
Protein: 37%
Carbs: 16%
Fat: 45% (primarily mono and poly unsaturated ones)

Lori - I found a pair of jeans called the Tummy Tuck jeans that fix my belly so that my ass is now a thing of beauty. I also found a nice dress - strapless and not as trashy as the first one
Diet was shot to hell this weekend I'm so glad that 20% carbs and recovery only is over. Although I'll only be able to get 3 full workouts in this week (hair appt. on Thursday; leaving Friday morning until Sunday), I'm planning to track as much as I can (or I can remember ). I will be adjusting my exercise to accommodate using my exercise videos. It's merely a preference as I won't be able to get to the gym with my new teaching load.
Chloe - Thanks for stopping by and wishing me luck.
Week 4 OPT Weigh-In and Monthly Measurements
Start: 215.4
Today: 209.5 (down from 210.5 last week)
This brings my weight loss total to 5.9lbs As for measurements, here goes:
Chest: 45.5 (current 44.75)
Arms: 13 (current 12.50)
Waist: 38 (current 37.50)
Low Abs: 44 (current 44)
Hips: 44 (current 43.50)
Thighs: 25 (current 24.50)
This means I have lost 3.25 inches overall in four weeks. I'm quite pleased with this because I can fit into smaller jeans and I'm real close to getting back into XL blouses. I have my sights set on shopping in Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic and New York and Company again. It has been at least 3 years since I was able to shop in my favorite stores.
Hi Donna - I read your post about sneaking food around your husband and it TOTALLY hit home for me! I am a complete food hider/sneaky eater! The only saving grace for me that helped me lose 15 lbs recently was that I had people WAITING on my weight daily - so there was no way to HIDE the sneaky eating!! Now I don't, and I am totally back at it! My husband was gone this weekend (in Vegas, too - maybe you saw him!! hah!), and although it could have been SO much worse, I did eat PLENTY of candy that I did not need! I would never eat that if he were around!! I have to get back on the "someone will see my weight tomorrow and will know I have cheated..." accountability train asap...Going to start a workout/weight thread here!!
I am going to follow your OPT journey - that is likely what I am going to be doing as well!!
Hope you had fun in vegas!!
Karla

Karen - Start a log here and get the accountability and support you need. It is hard to not fall back into your old habits without the proper amount of support. I use my log for the support because I know I can't do this on my own.

how true is that?!
sorry i've been missing all of the fun over here - you've got a great sense of humor. congrats on your progress - i'll take the small victories any day, it's such a long, hard process without them. good luck with the challenge, and now that i know where the party is, i'll be back!
Hey Karen and everyone else....I'm finally back and fully "dried out" from my Vegas trip. We got back Sunday but I needed time to recover - my feet were swollen (from heels and lots of alcohol) and I was sleep deprived. But man did we have fun!!! Below are a couple of pictures....I did a good job of keeping those girls in line...LOL...not really esp. when they kept telling me to show a little boob to get into the clubs for free
The Damage Report: Well, I've gained 2lbs back. Meh!! And I haven't worked out yet. I have to slowly get back to my pre-Vegas diet (OPT) but I have a very full schedule this semester (teaching 4 classes, advising student groups and preparing my portfolio for 2nd year promotion) so I can only count on having about 30-45 minutes in the AM to workout on most days. I cannot work in the evenings or it just won't get done. For the next few days, I will be doing short cardio workouts, drinking tons of water and re-stocking my kitchen. I have about a month to reach my summertime goal of reaching 200lbs so I have to get it crackin'
LOVE the photos Donna.... sounds like you had a great time! 2 lbs. is nothing... and it sounds like most of that might be water anyway... it'll be gone by the end of the week (and hopefully it takes some of its friends with it, right?)
Love the new avie pic too! Stupid question... what are you holding?
