Hey Lori, thanks for stopping by my journal. I'm really excited to see what I can get done during the 30 day challenge. Also, congrats on the 5lb loss!

OK, so I finished up week 1 on OPT. The food part was pretty good, although I did have some cheat stuff yesterday, knowing that I was starting the challenge today. Sooooo not a good attitude LOL!
Last week's weight: 171.4
This week's weight: 165.8
Today I began following the 30 day challenge (One Big Meal) on Leigh's blog. I love the way that Pauline is logging her thoughts/info for the challenge, so I'm going to do that too....
30 Day Challenge DAY ONE (October 20, 2008)
I planned all of my food out last night and was set to go this morning. I decided that at least for some of the days, I'm going to give myself more variety than just *one* food.... and I'm OK with that, as long as I prepare it all in the morning. I think today was the very first day that I've EVER planned EVERYTHING out ahead, so just doing that is a HUGE step for me. (You know, it's one of the things I always mean to do, but then before I know it.... you know how it goes!)
Thoughts: I had plenty of food for today (my cal level is 1355) but I didn't plan it out all that well in terms of when to actually EAT it. I ended up having a protein shake, 200 g of shrimp and ricotta cheese with splenda and cinammon for dinner. TOO.MUCH.PROTEIN. I am sitting here more than 2 hours later and I'm still uncomfortably full from eating that all at once. Note to self: Spread out the protein sources throughout the day more carefully! (I had intended to have the shake in the am, but ran out of time before school... a mistake I won't make again LOL!)
I didn't do formal exercise (ie at the gym) today, but I did play 1 1/2 hours of tennis, so I burned some calories, that's for sure!

Yeah, and you get really good NEAT all day long at school because I know you're an up and moving around teacher!
LOL at feeling too full at the end of your first day on a diet challenge. That seems odd, doesn't it? hehehe I know what you mean about the too much protein at one time thing, though. Good job on your first day!

Lori, it sounds like Day 1 went pretty well for you. I am having the same problem with when to eat all the food. It gets late in the evening and I know there's still more there and it's almost overwhelming to have to eat it. Anyway, all the activity and NEAT are great. Keep up the good work!
LOL about the haircut comment - you sound just like me - I might not be thrilled to post my bikini pics, but it's just adding insult to injury if my hair isn't doing what I want it to do!
And I was thinking, now why did she go and mention she needed a haircut because nobody would have known the difference. But I do relate to the need to put that out there rather than risk others thinking, "Wow...why doesn't she do something about her hair?" LOL. It looks fine. And good luck with this challenge. You can stick to anything for 30 days!

I do get lots of NEAT during the day with all the running around I do. And yeah.... it was weird to feel so full on the first day of the plan. I have always struggled with getting enough protein, but clearly I had enough on that day!

Thanks Karen! I'm looking forward to watching your progress in the challenge!

Thanks Bytsi! LOL! A bad hair day just isn't a good thing!

ROFL Kathy! My hair just seems to be growing soooo fast these days... when you look at my avie compared to the pics, you can tell I haven't had it cut for awhile! I called and made an appt. yesterday for a cut and highlights... since my oldest was "nice" enough to point out that I'm getting some white in my hair! Thanks for your support re: the challenge.... it's going quite well so far!

Up a little from yesterday.. boy, my weight is just bouncing around all over the place these days. I wish I could say that I had 100% compliance wrt food today, but not quite. Some days I swear that I want to smack my dh upside of the head, kwim? He brought home this BIG jar of mixed nuts... all the kinds I love. Not a peanut in sight... we're talking almonds, pecans, cashews, etc. Yum. His justification was "Well, you said you need more protein sources." Men. I don't know why I even opened the damn container, but I did... bad plan. I didn't go way overboard, but the point is that THEY WERE'NT IN THE PLAN, so I was totally cheating. No more of that. Pretty pathetic that I can't even get past day TWO without going off plan. WTF?
No exercise either... I stayed up late the night before to clean (in laws visiting) so I didn't drag my butt out of bed for the gym at 4. Still need to work on getting more sleep....
30 day challenge DAY THREE (October 22, 2008)
Today's weight: 163.8 (WTF???)
So, like I was saying above, my weight seems to be jumping all over the place these days. Not sure what's up with that. I just try not to get too happy when I have a low day, because I know it's probably going to jump back up again. As long as the trend is downward, though... I'm good with that.
Food today has been excellent! I am loving the chicken and salsa that I cooked in the crockpot a couple of nights ago.... I had it for both lunch and dinner today. I'm here at school for parent teacher conferences until 7:30 tonight, and I resisted going out for pizza with the other 6th grade teachers because I knew that I needed to have an "ON PLAN" day today after yesterday's encounter with the mixed nuts LOL. I will miss the company, but not the temptation!
Planning to hit the gym tomorrow morning for sure! I'll do an OPT workout and some cardio.

But how do we know you're not letting it grow out on purpose??? My oldest son is also the one who pointed out my first white hairs. I didn't believe him at first...insisted it was a random blonde hair...so he yanked it out and showed me. I started looking for them in the mirror and the more I looked, the more I found. That was, umm, a while ago. Twelve years? I camouflaged with highlights for a while until I just got too many. Now henna is my friend.
Not sure if I'm nuts.... but I decided to join Leigh's 30 day challenge for her blog readers that starts tomorrow. I'm nervous about it, but excited to see some serious results if I can force myself to stick with it! It's only 30 days, right?
No more nuts than me... and I think the 30 days will go by like lightning! Let's hope we are both lighter and leaner by the end!

Gotta love kids and their honesty, eh?

Thanks for stopping by, Cynthia... and yes, we both will be, I'm sure!

Whoa, you're dropping weight fast! Like you said, it's the trend that matters and it seems to just keep going down for you
I'm finally seeing a drop now that I am back on track.

I'm seriously amazed Hayzel.... this morning I was at 162!! I got on and off of the scale 3 times just to make sure it wasn't a mistake LOL! Hopefully it lasts....

Way to go Paula! It feels really good to be back on track, doesn't it?

Lori, that's wonderful! Way to go!
As far as the scale, at least you didn't find yourself moving it around the bathroom to see if your weight changed . Yes, that'd be me. I even weighed dumbbells once to see if the scale was giving accurate readings. So, anyway, be glad you haven't taken your nuttiness to a whole new level as I have before .

ROFL Karen! I'm not quite that bad, but I have moved the scale around the bathroom before. The dumbbells are something I must admit that I never thought of though..... hmmmmm

Nice job Lori...Continued success with the 30 Day Challenge! Wait, did I read that right....you lost 5lbs on your first week back on OPT? Congrats!!!
Thanks Donna... and yes, I lost 5lbs the first week. I know that it was water weight, because I had not been drinking much water at all for the few weeks prior. Even so, I'll take it!

I cooked a pork tenderloin for tonight.... yum! I will admit that I didn't cook it ahead of time, but I did know exactly what I was going to have, and how much of it. I am LOVING this plan so far. I'm finding it easy on so many levels... I don't have to think about what I'm going to eat, and the increased levels of protein have me staying full. Getting enough protein is usually a real challenge for me, but I've been having no trouble so far, and I'm definitely finding that the increased amount of protein is keeping my carb cravings in check too. I'm feeling so optimistic and in control... I love that feeling! Never did make it to the gym this morning though... I'll get there this weekend. I want to make the food my primary focus right now, but I know I'll get back to my regular exercise schedule eventually!

Ok, Karen, now THAT cracks me up!

Hey Lori,
I am looking at the running plans on your blog: "Couch potato to 5k" and "becoming a 1 hour runner". They look like they might be a place I can start. I like how they start with couch potato and walking. It is how they end that intimidates me! They might be more than I am ready to take on. I need to figure out some kind of plan. Your fitness photos are inspiring.
Age:43
Weight: 165.8 / 160.8
Waist: 34″ / 33"
Bust: 38″ / 37"
Under bust: 33.5″ / 32.5"
Abdomen: 42″ / 41"
Hips: 43″ / 41" (not sure I measured these in exactly the same place)
Thighs: 22.5″ / 22.5"
Biceps: 12.5″ / 12.5"
I'll take 5 pounds and 6" in a week.... oh yeah!!! Thing is, the biggest change this week is one that you can't even see.... my ATTITUDE!!! I'm feeling so postive and into this right now that I expect big things of myself in these next 3 weeks!

Lori, AWESOME progress this week! You're doing so well and 1/4 done with the challenge now. I'm finding attitude is everything, too.
Sinead, yeah, there it is for the world to see--I'm a little bit obsessive . (Mostly it was because my weight changed depending on where I was in the bathroom and I weighed 10 lb dumbbells to see where in the bathroom gave the most accurate reading. Now I've got the scale in that spot permanently and all is well.)
Just realized that I forgot to update yesterday's results!
30 day challenge DAY FIVE (October 24, 2008)
Weight: 161.4
It seems amazing to me that the weight just keeps going down every morning..... I hope it keeps doing that, because this has been pretty easy so far. I'm especially surprised that this is all without really much formal exercise at all (lots of NEAT though) because I haven't been to the gym in over a week. It just totally reinforces the idea that this is ALL ABOUT THE FOOD for me.
30 day challenge DAY SIX (October 25, 2008)
This morning's weight: 160.8
This weight matches my lowest since beginning my weight loss journey way back in January 2007... I blew it the last time that I got here (in August) and ended up gaining more than 10 pounds. That will NOT happen this time... I plan on seeing the 150's by Monday! (and if not by Monday, then soon thereafter...)
Today I'm finishing up the last of my salsa chicken and pork tenderloin... and I'll be off to the grocery store to stock up on stuff for recipes I'll be making tomorrow.
