I know for me that what has kept me on track is the tracking all of my food. It's become a game for me to see how close to macros/calories I can get. Make your tracking sysem as easy as you can for you. I don't use the on-line programs, but my own simple access database that is on my work laptop so I have access to it all the time.

Also - another tip I can give is do NOT deny yourself foods you like. If you do, it will cause you to "fall off the wagon". For example, a couple of weeks ago I make a pear pie and I figured out how many calories was in an ounce of the pie, and then I figured out how much I could have without going over in calories. Granted I couldn't have a huge piece, but I could have some, and thus satisfing my cravings.

I guess in the end, you need to figure out where your weakness are, and make sure you figure out how to deal with them. Mine are sweet things, so I make sure that every day I have something sweet so I don't feel deprived.

Anyways - good luck!!!!!!!!
Thanks Jen! You know, the tracking is super important for me to do in order to succeed too..... but once I've been doing it for a while, I find myself starting to slide a bit. You would think it would get easier over time, and really just second nature, but for me it just isn't. And once I start letting things slide a little.... well, before you know it I've got a landslide LOL! I use Spark People, and it couldn't be any easier.. I have most of my foods saved as favorites anyway. No excuse there... so I'm not sure what the deal is. I'll have to figure it out as I go, I guess.

Mainly, I think I'm just really good at giving myself excuses to go off of the plan. I have no doubt that part of it this time was due to my trainer leaving the gym and me losing that sense of accountability I had. Here I was thinking that I was going to the gym because I just loved going to the gym, but apparently there was more to it than that LOL.... there was a certain amount of guilt associated with NOT going when I knew that Matt was there. Ugh. Did that make sense at all? Cause I read it, and I'm not sure it did!

Anyway.... NO MORE EXCUSES. I need to do this, and I'm going to. I love what you wrote in my log a while back though, Jen, about giving yourself like 200 extra calories during the day so that you can have a little something if you want it. Definitely going to incorporate that advice! Thanks so much for your help, oh great OPT-er Jen!

You can do this, Lori. You are one of the most determined people I know. You got a little sidetracked, but look at how far you've come. Pull out that picture from over a year ago and look really closely at it. You know how you have made those changes, and I know that, with a little more perseverance, you'll make it to your goals. GO LORI GO!!

Default Week One... starting from scratch!

This week's weight: 171.4

Starting today... did the grocery shopping thing last night and have plenty of healthy choices in the house. I getting in lots of NEAT right off the bat by working on the laundry pile in the basement, with lots of trips up and down the stairs!

Sinead, DUDE, you're awesome. You are just always so positive and such a great motivator! I appreciate your kind words so much. YES, I know I can do this... it's not rocket science, is it? I just need to stick to the PLAN.

Remember you got this far, we all need to keep in perspective we didn't get this way overnight so it won't change over night. I have been pretty overwhelmed and frustrated myself lately. Hang in there, Lori. You will get back on track and you will do awesome. Just remember one mess up, even two or three isn't the end of a way of life it is a bump in the road. Or even better, it is just life - if we can't just enjoy life where we are at, how can we expect to enjoy it when we reach our goals. Embrace where you are and work on where you want to be.

Thanks so much for the encouragement Vickie... I appreciate it! You're so right too... it really is a learning experience and the occasional setback is bound to happen! It's hard not to get overwhelmed by it all, but I'm just going to take it one day at a time.

My first day back has been GREAT..... lots of NEAT, a tennis class this afternoon (I played a singles match today, which was an awesome workout... usually it's doubles!) and eating on track all day. The macros were a little off, but the calories were right on! Feeling good... a little hungry, but good! I know I can do this!

WE all have setbacks. The key is to not let it be the rule but the exception. Tough, I know. Just coming out of a funk myself. Sounds like you have a great day and a plan. Keep with it and you will succeed.

Getting the food right is the easiest thing and the hardest thing. I know for me there's no point in worrying about the rest if I don't track the food. I've come to the conclusion that I'll probably have to track in some way for a long long time. What does help me is making sure that I'm eating things that I enjoy. If you're only eating it because you feel that you have to it can be harder to keep on track.

Good luck with your new start!

So totally true Anne.... the rest doesn't mean diddly if I don't pay attention to the food, so as much as I hate having to do it, that's where I need to put most of my energy. It just pisses me off that I don't have more control over what I put in my mouth without the tracking, kwim?

Anyway... today was another good day! I did the OPT workout A1 this morning, was successful with food all day, and then spent some time on the track at the community center while my 9 yo was in taekwondo class. I ran a mile and probably walked another 1.5 miles. I just wasn't feeling the running all that much, plus I didn't want to be starving when I got home either.

Feeling good... hungry, but good! Off to bed... stayed up too late watching The Biggest Loser and the Shield. Ugh. My next focus will have to be on getting more sleep!

Thanks Anne!

I had another good eating day today for the most part. I'm still struggling with the planning ahead part, but at least I'm making healthy choices when I do eat.... although tonight probably wasn't the best. I ended up having Chinese for dinner because I forgot to take something out of the freezer. I did have something that I *think* was pretty healthy though... shrimp and snow peas with brown rice. Yum.

I didn't work out today... stayed up too late last night watching TV and didn't have the energy to hit the gym at 4:30am. My plan right now is to go in the early mornings on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On the weekends I usually meet friends a little bit later in the mornings if I go at all. Saturdays have been pretty much a bust during football season!

Off to bed shortly.... I will be doing workout A2 in the morning, as well as some cardio if I have time to fit it in.

Today was another good day! The scale was at 166 this morning, so I'm continuing to lose all the water weight I've been holding on to... no wonder I was feeling bloated LOL!

Had a great workout this morning... did OPT A2, followed by 30 min of cardio on the elliptical. Clearly I hadn't done this anytime recently.... my legs were jello by the time I was done!

Good eating day today, although with our tremendously busy Thursday schedule I ended up not eating dinner until almost 8pm.... and it was a bowl of Kashi w/ berries. Not exactly what I had planned, but I was too hungry at that point to cook anything! I think I've got to haul the crockpot out for Thursdays from now on....

Good job so far Lori. I regret not weighing in on Monday due to Aunt Flo' so I have no way of checking my progress with the water bloat. But you are doing really well. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Donna! I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised when you weigh in this week, even if you don't have something to compare it to. I'm trying not to be obsessive about the scale, but it is exciting to see such a quick drop the first few days... I was at 164.8 this morning! I guess I was holding on to a lot more water than I realized!

Thanks Christine! (It's great to see your face, btw!) I was really in a good pattern this time last year of going to the gym before school nearly every day, and going to bed early enough to allow that to happen. This year, not so much.... I'm staying up too late some nights watching TV that I didn't watch last year because of the writers' strike LOL! Anyway... I'm going on M, T, and Th mornings now, plus at least one weekend day. With my boys' schedules, it's really the ONLY time I can go!

Not sure if I'm nuts.... but I decided to join Leigh's 30 day challenge for her blog readers that starts tomorrow. I'm nervous about it, but excited to see some serious results if I can force myself to stick with it! It's only 30 days, right?

Go for it, Lori. I would do it - probably should. . . . You can do anything for 30 days.

No formal workouts the last couple of days, although yesterday my cubscout den spent the entire day (I'm talking the ENTIRE day... 7:00am-6:00pm) visiting a Boy Scout camporee, so we did lots of hiking and NEAT. Today my oldest had to be picked up from the camporee in order to get to football practice before the last game of the season, which started at 1:00pm. After we got home from that, I spent the rest of the day cleaning and bossing the kids around.... Um... I mean *encouraging* the kids to clean their rooms! I've got tennis tomorrow afternoon and will go to the gym next on Tuesday..... I've stayed up too late tonight.

I've got my food all planned out for tomorrow for Leigh's challenge.... for tomorrow I'm still using a variety of foods rather than literally one big meal, but my macros and calories are dead on. I'm ready to go.... which is good, because I had a little blip on the success road today. Ugh.

Wow, you are wonder woman. Leading a cub scout den is a big commitment. Plus don't you teach too?

Are they webelo II's? My son has made the nicest friends in cub scouts.

Trust me... wonder woman I'm not LOL... but yes, the den is a big commitment. I've been their leader since they were Tigers. Our cubmaster's son is in the den, so he works with us too, since this year we've got 9 boys. Yikes. Nine 9 year olds are a lot of work some days! They're just first year Webelos... we don't have any second year boys.

Yes, I am a teacher too. I teach 6th grade social studies. Three out of our 4 den leaders are teachers.... think they targeted us much?
