Good goals. Everyone should have a job they care enough to *want* to rock it.
Amen. When I post my big detailed thingie about my goals, I don't want it to come across as totally narcissistic. But when I want to rock it, I can f'in rock it. Just haven't wanted it in a long time at work and it's time to change that.
Nice goals for the challenge. I especially like the one about playing the piano. About 5 years ago I took up classical guitar and it has become quite a passion for me. It has changed my life quite a bit. I hope you see similar such benefits from that one.
Thanks! Me too.

I try to convice RedWifey on special days too. Like Fridays. Or days that end in "Y".

Your "area" is getting hit hard? ......
I won't do it. You know the best part of giving blood? Those little packets of mini Oreos. I took two, cuz last time I gave blood I passed out.
And gang, I'm now officially in the market for a good beginner keyboard to start learning piano. Preferrably Yahama and not more than $150. I'll probably need some books too. Or maybe DVDs? Heck, I don't know. Help a brotha out.
My BD is a month away so this is what I'll be getting.

If somebody gives me the first note I can sight read a vocal line fairly well, thanks to 30 years' worth of Sundays in a church with acapella worship. But I still need the sound of that first note, and I wouldn't have a clue if it was a C or a G.
So conceptually I'm a true beginner, although my past experience may help me progress at a decent rate.

Gotcha. I was just being a jerkish perv.

Religious history, intracellular biology, computer programming, piano... one of these days I'm going to come upon a topic you aren't an expert in, I know it!

I think the dirty little minds have been here before.
OMG... I don't think I can breath this morning, I'm laughing so hard.

Holy Carp. I dropped in to see how the workouts were going and fall into a pit of dirty little minds. Hmmm?
Workout? WORKOUTS?!?!?!
You knew this was my blog when you clicked on it. It'll be randomness and innuendo around here as usual, thank you very much.
RedWifey and I tried to quickly browse some musical keyboards last night, but the nearby music store is now closed (replaced by a X-fit type youth training facility). And Circuit City didn't have any in the store, although they have them online.

Trust me, if it's happening to you in a small, enclosed space, it's not so hilarious. Really.

Too bad we don't live closer. I bought one a few years back to pass my piano competency and it just sits in the corner now. I'd sell it cheap, too. You going to be in the area sometime soon?
As far as features go, key size and action are important because you want it to emulate a real piano as much as possible. Absolutely do NOT settle for anything other than full-size keys. You want your hand muscles and nerves to know what the intervals feel like.

What you're describing is perfect pitch. Heck, I don't have that.
I find with beginners the toughest thing about learning notation is rhythm, not the notes.

Unfortunately not. I won't even be there for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year. That means no Chiefs game.

Cool. Right now I'm checking out the Yamaha YPT-310. It's got full size keys and a nice "grand piano" feature that supposedly does a decent job replicating the sound and action (the volume of the note is touch-sensitive). Of course it's got built-in practice tools and a flash drive where you can upload and/or record songs... I'm not really there yet.

See I think you need a duet partner on this whole piano playing deal.

Hey, I did four (count'em, FOUR) workouts this week. Three at the company gym and one at the YMCA. Suck on that, anti-training hecklers.
I was snatching 60-lb DBs yesterday for several sets and felt very good. Will start taking the weight up pretty soon although it'll be a while before I'm at Roland levels. Speaking of Roland, that looks like a nice video! If RedWifey falls asleep early tonight I may watch it all the way through.
In the locker room yesterday after my workout, me and some high school kids were talking about steroids. They seemed impressed/wary of how much I knew about the topic, and at least one of them noticed the needle mark I have in the vein inside my left elbow. I didn't mention that I gave blood this week.
I mean, seriously, if someone thinks I built this body with steroids then that really does a disservice to the anabolics.

While I'm sure you'll enjoy the video, it's the KB equivalent of pink DBs. They might as well be holding rolling pins. At least they could put those to some use.
