as long as the boss doesn't say "hey, RL good work in August - how come you've been such a slacker for the last few years if you can have this sort of outcome?"

Nah, he'll probably just cut the commission plan in fear I'm making too much. I'm only sorta kidding...
Worked out today at the company gym:
Kamate Triad of Genuflecting Flower -- 3x8
Lat pulldowns
Bench pistols
Low-cable bench press
Fujimoto Triad of Having Aspirations -- 3x8
DB Flyes
Cable rows
1-leg bridges on upside-down bosu ball
Ended with a finisher of farmer's walks and cable crunches
Domo arigato
RedWifey baked a massive batch of oatmeal raisin cookies last night, so I had several. And I plan to have several more tonight. My body is strangely in much better shape than at any point during the 1st Half Challenge. Weird. I guess this new perspective on exercise fits me after all.

(peeks in sheepishly) did I say something wrong? killed the traffic in here
Apparently.
Contract #11 came in today. I'm going to carry the Bozo picture challenge forward on a monthly basis. If I continue to hit double digits in contracts every month, then I'll post the picture anyway at the end of the year. It'll help keep the pressure on me. After all, you can only coast if you're going downhill, and I don't want to do that.
And I'll be emailing a woman about some piano lessons. I think she lives fairly close to us and even just a half-hour a week would be a big help right now. Free websites and the Yamaha Education System built into the keyboard aren't cutting it.
Tonight is pizza/DVD/ice cream family night as usual. Big workout coming this afternoon at the Y before that , though. Oh, and I won't forget to make time to run around screaming like a little girl because of the impending doom of the hurricane.

Check your church. Often times the music director will offer lessons as a way of creating supplemental income.

RL's chuch is non-instrumental (not saying there might not be a pianist in the bunch)
seriously - an in-person piano teacher is the absolute BEST! Like any sport or exercise there are the warmups, the exercises, the skill building routines and the execution - and having a teacher/coach when you start out is excellent. Great news.
A 1/2 hr lesson is great - your brain will be full and you'll have plenty to practice before the next week.
Agreed. You could probably learn what you wanted to on the keyboard, but having a good teacher would get you there a lot quicker, and probably a lot less painlessly too.

do you have a metronome?
I can keep a rhythm with no metronome. No metronome. No metronome...
The keyboard has one.
I had to man up and admit to RedWifey that I want to do this the right way. Business associates come to me and ask how they can give a presentation or dissect a balance sheet the way I do. There's no short answer. You have to build a foundation and learn/practice for years. I don't see why piano should be any different. No shortcuts.

I'm a problem solver. Stand back.
You go ahead and give step 1 a try, but let me know if advance so I can be gone that day while the place explodes in righteous fury. It's a total non-issue for me but some of our church members seriously think it's a heaven/hell deciding factor.

Wait a minute... doesn't that mean more painful? I might need to rethink this...

seriously??? I thought Gabe was making a pun on non-denominational. Church without music seems wrong.... although I wouldn't wish the lady that used to lead at mass on Sundays on anyone.... She was absolutely awful.

non-instrumental is NOT the same as without music. Just think a capella only. Imagine Gregorian Chant for a Western traditional comparison (and no, I'm not in RL's church or denom) and I'm not entirely sure why I'm saying this in his log as if he can't speak for himself - sorry RL

at it's best, it's actually quite beautiful if given the chance. we all sing (4 part harmony) and the notes and music blend together in a very stirring way.

I'm only a consultant. I set the strategy. That's a whole different team that implements. I'll have some one call you.

Playing any instrument is complex enough that a skilled teacher is a requirement. You could work on your own to sorta get to a point where you can play, but there are all sorts of little technique pitfalls and you might just as well learn the right way from the beginning rather than un-learn bad habits later. It's well worth it.
Hmmm... should I launch into a lecture about the instrument controversy that endured for the first millennium of Christianity and beyond? Or the American 4-part shaped note hymnal tradition of a cappella congregational singing?

I was going to mention shaped note singing but couldn't remember the name of it - very interesting - and very like Byzantine chant (in notation not sound (no ison))

Yeah Roland, they're not real big on dancing either. It was actually unallowed at the university RW and I attended and met at (aligned with the same denomination as our church). There was no dancing allowed on campus except for the official arts performances, where it was differentiated as "choreography".
I definitely wanted to try the Kevin Bacon speech about dancing a few times.
Bill, feel free to launch into whichever lecture you like. Just remember that you're almost assuredly preaching to the choir.
Now I've gotta go warmup my voice before church tomorrow.
