I have not mentioned it. Good question! Yes I pretty much adjust every week. I've seen others say they adjust for every 10 pounds lost, but I just go ahead and do it every week. Seems to work for me.
Your results confirm it's working for you! I'm going to adjust every 5 once I hit 165 and go from there. I think it will coincide with my rest week next week, we'll see. Thanks!
Jen, great things going on here ! I was glad to see your post about how you adjust your program while doing OPT. I've only done it when the rest week comes around, but it still seems to be working okay. It's great to be excited about a food plan! Way to go on the clothing finds, too!
So the last week or so the weight has been fluxuating between 155 and 156. I keep hoping to see 154, but alas no go. Hoping that the next week will bring a nice "whoosh". I am hoping to see 153 by Wednesday to stay on track, but not sure.
I know that I've been 100% compliant on the food, in fact every day I am under by 50 to 100 calories. I've been drinking my water. The only thing that hasn't been as good as I would like is the exercise. Last week was rest week, so no exercise, but this week was cardio/lifting on Monday, cardio on Thursday, lifting on Friday. Hope to get out today to cardio. So didn't exercise as much I usually do.
So I know one week of stall is not that big of deal, but looking at my tracking, I haven't had one single week of since starting OPT where I didn't not lose at least a single pound. The only time I gained was on my refeed week which was to be expected. So..... well see what happens this coming week. If things don't resume to the normal schedule, I will need to start looking more closely at things.
Though just occured to me that I went from 20% carbs to 40% carbs this week... perhaps it's just a bit more water weight? Perhaps I should start tracking my sodium intake too... just to see. Haven't been really concerning myself with sodium since it hasn't been a problem.
So I wore my new pencil skirt and top to work on Wednesday, and everyone was like "wow, sexy momma!".
Helps that I had some nice pointy toe high heels that matched the shirt exactly... felt like Stacy and Clinton would have been proud. Might have to take a pic of me in the outfit...
So the funny thing is how people just don't general have a clue about weight. When I talk to people about my weight loss and I say that I have at least 30 pounds more to go, they usually say no way do you have 30 pounds more to lose... so I must hide it well in my clothes? That's a good thing!
Woohoo on the outfit Jen... and yes, you should definitely post pics!!
I'm sure it's frustrating not to be seeing a loss over the last week or so, but I would agree that it could be water with the higher % of carbs. In any case, I'm sure you'll get that scale moving again!
People say the same thing to me when I tell them how much more I want to lose. Thing is, I may look fine in clothes, but underneath... yeah, not so much. LOL!
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Increasing carbs slightly might be the issue. However, sometimes you just can't explain why. Do you normally see a fluctuation around menstrual cycles? Some months mine comes and goes without any water gain/loss, and then other months it really makes a huge difference.
Last night DH and I went to a party at "our" farm. For the last two summers we have gotten a share in a farm and have gotten fresh veggies and eggs delivered every week from the farm. I love it. So our farmer has a party at her farm at the end of the season with all the other people who bought shares. It's a great time. I even managed to control the calorie intake! I think I only went over by 100 or 200 calories.

You have a farm and a farmer? How cool is that! I knew moving to Long Island was a mistake. All the farmers are giving up or rather selling their land for housing developments and I don’t need another house. Fresh veggies would be so wonderful!
Gaaahhhhh

I am up 1 pound this week. 157. this is literally the first time since starting OPT at the beginning of June that I have seen a increase of weight for a week (except for after refeed week). What the hell has happened? My life hasn’t changed drastically. I am still eating a deficit. I am still weighing food and counting calories religiously. Grrrr. I was supposed to be at 153 today. I’ve weighed in at 155 a few times, but it keeps bouncing back up. But the last two weeks have been awful for weight loss. I was hoping to be at 150 for the challenge check in, but don’t really see that happening. This is so frustrating.
So now my brain is spinning trying to figure out what the hell is going on. It’s not TOM, I don’t think I am retaining water (but if I am I have no idea why). I haven’t drastically changed what I am eating. Basically since I have come out of the rest week 4 on OPT; things haven’t been going as they have been. I’ve been averaging about 2 pounds a week the whole time, and never a week that was up!
So the only thing I can thing of is –
My body likes where it is at, basically set point (though that is insane talk)
I need to take another refeed/rest period. Perhaps more than 1 week? But last ne was only 6 weeks ago.
Have faith, perhaps a “whoosh” is about to happen.
As I get lower and lower in weight, things won’t be as easy as they were? Based on the calorie deficit I am doing now, it should be around 1.1 pounds of loss per week which is slower than I have been seeing since it has been mostly 2 pounds.
So anyways, I’m done venting. I am going to give it another week, and if I still don’t see things going the right direction, I am going to post over in the Fat Loss Troubleshooter forum and see what people think…

Maybe not one thing but a few small things? This is your second time through OPT right? Was there any weirdness at this point last time? Not a gain but maybe less of a loss? I don't know just tossing out ideas. Hang in there!
Maybe it's a sleep issue???? How much sleep are you getting?

Maybe - it's just the first round of OPT, I had some of these small things, but it didn't seem to matter - I still lost weight. I looked at the the trends in the last rounds, and nothing like this...

Maybe post this in Leigh's section (if you haven't already) and see if anyone there has thoughts or feedback...?
Only advice I have is to keep on being consistent and be sure you're measuring what you need to be measuring...
Yeah, I was thinking of posting. I'm going to give it one more week and see what happens. I'm pretty sure I have been consistent and weighing everything.

Well, I have been getting the same amount of sleep I always get. So no change there.
Thanks everyone for your help. Down to 156.2 this morning... let's hope for a 155 reading tomorrow.
Well had a small whoosh this morning... 154.4! I think some of that weight was the fact that I gave blood yesterday, but even so if you count for the fact that a pint of blood weighs about a pound, that still puts me at 155.4. Which is much better than the 157! Well see how the next few days play out. But I so HAPPY to see the scale moving again....
Oh, and forgot to say... I had been thinking the last couple of days that a whoosh should be coming because my gut fat has been feeling really squishy and horrible. I remember feeling like this around this time in the last round and having Leigh comment that is when your some of your fat cells have been replaced by water, but the water hasn't left yet.
This morning was 154.2! Yeah! Shows that staying on track pays off.
In other news, I'm famous! Leigh mentions me in her recent podcast where she answers questions...
don't mind me while I swoon...
You know, I was just listening to that at work, and I wondered if that was you! (The one who emailed a thanks/encouragement?) Cool...
Just caught up on your log and your "staying the course" is paying off. Good job keeping strong even when the numbers weren't doing what they were supposed to.
Well I noticed that I haven't really been logging my workouts... I've been doing them! Just haven't been posting them. Pretty much my schedule is M-W-F is cardio and T-TH is lifting. Weekends I usually do rest days. Though last weekend we did a 7 mile hike on Sunday. It wasn't a very strenous hike, but nice.
Today was B-1 Lifting.
And thanks everyone for the kudos! Amazing that I have officially lost 30 pounds. That's a lot! Only about 30 more to go...
I am down to 153! Which puts me officially at 30 pounds lost since the start of OPT! Whoot! Happy dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So in the last week I have had quite the whoosh of weight - 4 pounds since last wednesday. The body is a strange thing.
Congrats! That's why I never set time specific goals. Although you can set calorie levels/macros/exercise levels, you can't always make the body drop weight rationally. I suspect a lot of it is simply just water that holds on until the last minute (driving you crazy).
In the end just keep doing what you're doing, and it will work out.
