Down another pound today... hey I like this rapid weight loss
I'm glad things are going as I'd expected. Gives me even more faith in the knowledge I have now.
Did A1 lifting today. Just realized that it says to do A1 twice a week and A2 twice a week for a total of 4 times a week of lifting. Hmm. I so did not do that in the first round. I did 3 days of cardio (as prescribed), 2 days of lifting, and 2 days of rest (my weekends are my time to be DH since he is gone all week). Given my schedule, not much more than that will happen. I lost the weight in the first round, so apparently it was ok, just curious. I will probebly just continue with the 2 days of lifting and if I can squeeze in another when I can.
Och. Sorry yesterday and today from the A1 lifting! got the 50 minutes of cardio in yesterday. But not weight lifting today. All day meeting that went until 8pm tonight. Will lift tomorrow.
Back at 164 currently. Hope I can lose 4 pounds or so before the challenge pics!
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Finally had to break down and go shopping today for some new pants for work. I can only hold out so long! The brown pair of pants I have were to the point that I could take them on and off without unbuttoning them. I think that is a sign they are now way too big (black ones are almost to that point too). Both pair of pants I bought back in June. Amazing that in this short of time they have become unwearable!
So went down to the Van Huesen outlet store. Found 2 shirts & 2 pants for a total of $46! Whoot! The best part is the pants are a size 10 and the shirts are a medium! Amazing stuff. Can't remember the last time I wore those sizes. I think it may have been high school!
New all time low today... 162! From now on, everything will be a "all time new low!". Still hoping that I can be at 160 by the time I post for the challenge.
Thought I should also post a bit about what it was like going back to diet after a refeed/rest week:
Found that the first few days I was SO hungry. I think my body had gotten used to the larger amount of food. Now I am back to my "normal" self and am not finding myself to be hungry (except when it's time to eat!). So I would say the first couple days back after a refeed are a challenge, but it's only for a few days.
The weight one gains from the refeed week quickly go bye-bye. I weighed in at 168 last Sunday, and today a week later I am 162. 6 pounds in one week! Obviously 4-5 of those pounds were just water weight from the refeed. I am sure that if I had been more careful during the refeed week I would not have gained 5 pounds, but I was on vacation! As as you can see, it didn't have a adverse affect in the long run, so all is good.
I also did not completely rest during my rest week. I was on vacation, but we did some hiking -about 20 miles of hiking. All of it was very low-intesity though. Considering how much we spent in the car, it probebly worked it's self out in the end.
Hopefully my insite can help others when they do a refeed/rest week.
hey, jen, way to go! i hadn't stopped in here, but i'd read all of your posts in the fat loss forum. you're becoming a real opt poster girl! it's great to hear about your rest/refeed success - i think the whole concept scares most of us.
once you finish your twelve weeks, will you restart the process again? i've got the book, but i'm fuzzy on the "after program" details.

As far as the question about "will you restart the process again?". The answer is yes. In fact that is what I just have done. I did 11 weeks on OPT. Took a rest/refeed week during a planned vacation. Now I am starting the program all over again. so I just finished week 1 of round 2! The important thing is that you decide to do another round, to give yourself a rest week between the two. Eat a maintenance, and limit the exercise and lifting. Does this answer your question?

definitely - thought that might be how it went. i am currently doing lyle mcdonald's rapid fat loss program, but i plan to transition to opt in the future, so it's really nice to see how everyone is doing on it. plus, i think you are one of the first to post about a successful rest/refeed period. thanks!
Wow - that's so encouraging!!! Congrats on 162 and thanks for the "warning" about the hunger (although I expect it, as I'm sure I stretched my stomach a bit here!).
Grrr. One of the pairs of pants I bought on Saturday are the wrong size! I tried on the brown pair, liked them so grabbed another pair in gray on my way to check-out. So I put the gray pair on this morning and they were huge. So I am like WTF? I didn't shrink that much from Saturday to today! So I look at them, and they are a size 12 not a size 10! But here it the thing - the cardboard tag on the waist said size 10! They were mislabeled. Anyways so that means another trek up to the outlet mall to exchange them. Just what I wanted to do tomorrow. Oh well. (though perhaps it will be a good excuse to do some more shopping without the hubby )
Jen, you're doing so well on OPT and you're an inspiration to me. (I haven't posted in here, but have seen your progress both here and in the FLTS forum.)
I talking to my husband tonight, and even sort of gave me permission to look around some more. He's so nice!
I'm pretty much at the point that all my summer clothes are new. I'll be curious to see how the winter stuff fits when it gets cooler out.
Oh - and I've been meaning to post about this - the weight loss is so much, that basically *everyone* has commented on it. That's pretty cool that I have lost enough that it really is noticable. It's hard to notice it visably on oneself, when you still see the "bad" parts. I've noticed the clothes part, yet but it's hard to see when I look in the mirror.

Hey thanks! It's so weird to be the inspiration after all the years of having other's be my inspiration!

Congrats on hitting that "visible, noticeable" point in the journey!

I really think these are related - it is as if no one at work notices anything at all until you show up in new (properly fitting) clothes and suddenly the "have you lost weight" starts up.
Down another pound to 161. Yeah. Only one pound to lose to be where I want to be for challenge pics. That will put me at 6 pounds for the month which is spot on considering one of the weeks was a refeed/rest week.
WTG on the losses!!! Can't wait to see your progress pics!!!!
Thanks!
While reading other's logs today, I finally realized why others keep telling me I am inspiration. One of the reason's I think is that this process has been so easy for me. I haven't "fallen off the wagon" or stalled. I wish I could impart wisdom into why it's easy for me (because before this I would the one floundering), but everyone is different and some diets work for some, and not for others. This one works for me. Finally I have found "the one". Perhaps I should call it the "Neo" diet
Why I think OPT has worked for me:
Allows me to eat what I want. This has been the biggest problem with those "other diets" for me. I am really a picky eater and usually don't like the foods that are presented in the plans. With OPT I just follow the macros/calorie recommendation and try to eat as much 1 ingrediant foods as possible.
Ability to still eat treats without breaking the bank. For example, today there was some yummy cookies at work. I ate one, tracked it, and still managed to meet my targets for calories. Macros off a bit, but calories on target. You can call this my "cheat meal" but I don't call it that because I did not go over calories for the day.
Leaving a "buffer" of 150 to 200 calories a day for unplanned items. See cookie above. By having this buffer, it allows me to stay sane and not have to say no to everything that wasn't what I planned for the day.
I ate healthy before starting. I did not eat a lot of "empty calories". Didn't really eat much in the way of packaged food and didn't eat out at resturants very often or eat fast food. In fact my foods haven't changed too much except for adding in more fats and discovering greek yogurt! Because of this, I don't have those cravings for a big mac. The foods I crave are the ones I eat!
Exercise and lifting are completely doable with the equipment that is readily avliable to me. I can do all the lifting in my corporate gym which is a 30 second walk from my office.
Since the weight has come off so consistantly and easily, it keeps me going and encourages me to continue on this plan.
I usually am not hungry! Really. Though I really have not had much a problem with this in the past. My life is so busy, that it can be 9pm and I still haven't had dinner.
I drink water like a fish. (a really big fish)
So there is some (hopefully) insight into why this has worked so well for me.
Oh - and got a new bra and shorts for the challenge pics! The shorts are so not going out in public shorts, but it's the closest thing to a bikini I can go considering such things can not be found in August in stores.
Wow... this week has been the whoosh week... I've lost 5 pounds in the last week. All I have to say is that whole rest week/refeed really does work. I saw 159 on the scale. Was 164 last Friday. Wow. That is all I have to say. And that I really like it. For the last 3 days I have seen a the number drop each day.

No kidding on not being able to find bikinis in stores in August. I mean, they're there, but only in extra small around here and that's just not going to happen.
Anyway, great job on your fat loss and inches loss this month !
I think what you mention is probably the most important things to people trying to lose weight. Even when they have an off week (I know yours was a refeed) that if you go back to your plan and don't worry about it that excess weight they may have gained comes right off. Also, just thought I'd say that I do see some differences in the pictures, although I suspect it will be easier to tell next month (with the same outfit). Congrats on the losses.
Jen, I saw your pics in the Challenge Thread and wanted to tell you that you look great! Wonderful progress especially with a rest/refeed week in there! Keep up the good work!
