Which chain stores have you seen it in? I've looked at the stores in town and haven't seen it. Even our health food store doesn't carry it - though I should ask them too - get the whole town hooked on Fage!

I'm on the West Coast but I've seen Fage in Ralph's and Fresh and Easy (British owned). They are also carried Voskos which is another good brand (cheaper than Fage) that whole fat and non-fat varieties.

hmmm. I am on the west coast too, but I've never heard of those stores. Up here in Oregon, we have Fred Myers, Safeway, Albertsons and that's about it in my town. Portland, on the other hand has all the good stores. I SO wish they would build a TJ here, but I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. I'd even settle for a New Seasons or Whole Foods, but then my food budget would have to increase quite a lot.

Chiming in on the yoghurt discussion. It must be the 101th time I'm telling people that straining yoghurt (Quark or cottage cheese) is the easist thing since sliced bread.

Greek yoghurt tastes so good because it's strained. There's NOTHING magic about it except the straining. And straining is really really really easy. And I'm the laziest person on earth when it comes to cooking/preparing food.

So this is how to do it..

1 Buy a separate coffee filter container (we have this no. thing going on and size 4 is the most common & largest one).
2 buy the paper filters that go in them
3 put this thing over a larger mug or plastic container
4 pour in the yoghurt / Quark / cottage cheese (it will hold about half a litre or 1 lbs)
5 put in the refrigerator and wait 6-24 hrs depending on how much fluid you want to get rid off
6 put it upside down over a bowl and add in the fruit or whatever you like. If it is too solid (happens to Quark and cc) you can add some water back in or use fruit juice.

Even if you'd just add water back in to the same consistency as before it will still taste better as the sour/acid taste is totally gone. It will also get rid of most lactose present in Quark/cc and not totally fermented yoghurt.
It just pains me to see how scores of people hurry themselves to 'Greek' yoghurt while it's nothing but ordinary strained yoghurt that you can do yourself EASILY and pay half the price.

Safeway is related to Von's/Pavilions down here (same store brand) and they carry Fage so you should be able to ask for it. I think I've seen it in Albertson's down here.

Here in the US, the other benefit of getting plain Greek Yogurt is that it is cultured milk. Period.
Nearly all other yogurts have some additional ingredients for texture or sweetener or pectins or something. So for me it is an easy way to get "just yogurt" without any other additives. Sure there are some natural brands but even they are hard to find plain and unsweetened.

Hi Jen, I just read FLT and am trying to incorporate her principles slowly into my day to day life. I'm off to vegas for a girls trip on the 7th of August so don't want to set my self up for failing and plan on following her opt program as soon as I get home! After reading your log, I've been inspired to really commit to this program! I'm following NROLW now....do you recommend switching to her strength wos like you did? I"m a little sad to leave after finishing only two stages, but I guess I can go back right? Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you've inspired me to take this to the next level and I look forward to reading more of your successes!!

Hey Shell81 - Glad I inspired you!

today was intervel work, went ok. Later in the day instead of lunch, didn't seem to have as much engery.

Saw 169 on the scale this morning again! Hopefully no more up, just down for a while.

Looking foward to next week at 50% Carbs. Fruit here I come! And the perfect season for fresh berries!

Lisa, there's like 2 different types of natural yoghurt: one is cultured in a vat at lower temperatures and it takes longer to ferment. Apparently it results in a 'slimier' yoghurt that is more fluid and is called 'stir-yoghurt' here.
The other type is started at higher temperatures and is finished sooner, but apparently there are live (?) cultures in the containers and the result is a yoghurt that looks a bit like very fresh cheese with liquid on top and a texture that 'breaks' when you move it around. This latter product is tastier (to me).

The difference with Greek yoghurt as is sold now, is that the Greek yoghurt has been strained further and is not acid anymore and.. because of removed fluids will have a higher protein content.

Thanks Epsi for the suggestion on straining your own yogurt. I will have to give that a try.

Things have been going very well. Scale this morning said 166!!!!! That puts me at 17 pounds down since the start of OPT.

Yesterday was a bit of a challenge eating wise. I decided that I would make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I measured everything and figured out how many calories each cookie had (120!). So I figured out that I could have 2 of them yesterday. All well and good. But then friends came over in the evening and brought a bag of reeses peanut butter cups and a chocolate creme pie! I was SO GOOD and did not eat either because I could't afford the calories. The great thing is that it's not like it was horrible - I had 2 cookies!

So the fat gods rewarded me with a new all time low on the scale this morning!

Rest week this week but low calorie - 1150!

Way to go with staying on Plan Jenn.

It's amazing how many calories there can be in a cookie and your calorie count is lower than What I've seen for some commercial versions of Chocolate Chip cookies.

I made them REALLY small. One recipe made 48 cookies.

I think the next time I make cookies (which I need to do to send to my brother in the middle east) I'm going to invest in one of those tiny ice cream scoops, so I get very uniform cookies.

Well - the first couple weeks of OPT, I didn't do so well either. It took a bit to get into the "groove" of things. After 9 weeks or so on the program, I have really dialed into the whole tracking thing have a much better grasp on what kinds of calories things have so I haven't had really any days for several weeks where I went over a lot on the calories. In fact most days I have managed to be under by 50-100 calories (even on the weekends!).

We will see how this week goes at a 40% cut. Unfortunately I've lost so much weight that I am actually having to eat even less than the 4th week's 40% cut (about 100 calories less!)

Nice job Jen esp. resisting dessert with your friends. OMG, Leigh's blog post was so timely for me (I actually under-ate for 2 days; major stress) and then ate like a righteous pig today. The weekends have been a challenge for me for the last 7 months or so. I need to print that quote on my eyelids so I can meditate on it in my sleep...LOL

Good luck with this week's cut!!!

Great job resisting those reese's and chocolate pie - yikes!!!!!!!!

I had a cookie yesterday (oatmeal granola YUM) - we got some to take to our new neighbor's, but there were too many to fit on the plate. Good news is I KNOW my kids will eat the rest before I get another one!

Rest week... ahhh. Actually had a lunch break today where I relaxed. Tonight stretching and mobility. Hit the calories levels with about 50 calories left over. Felt a bit hungry around lunch, but then got over the "hump" and felt fine the rest of the day. I didn't include any protein with my breakfast this morning and I think that was the reason.

Broke down about bought a clearance rack pair of shorts today because I wanted one pair that fit well! And they were size 12!. When I started this program I was a 16.

Anyways that there be the news.

well shit. I just had a blond moment... for some reason I though week 9 was a 40% cut.. turns out it's a 35% cut! The last 3 weeks are 40%. Ouch that will be tough.

Well I've got some extra calories... wonder if a oatmeal cookie will fit in?

Lori - I did have the cookie! Still under in calories though!

Posted my starting picture for the challenge.

Posted a question for Leigh over in the FLTS section about how to deal with vacation and got a response so here is my plan:

Continue on with OPT until my vacation which starts a week from Friday. Then I go on maintenance for the vacation. Once I get back from vacation (which is just a week), then I am starting OPT all over again. I'm not going to finish the last 2 weeks. So when I finish this round I will have done 11 weeks total, which includes an extra week at the beginning.

Vacation should be fun we are heading up to Glacier, Jasper, Banff National Parks to do some hiking and camping.

I can't wait for the challenge to start as I need to get this weight off and it will give me more motivation.

Enjoy your vacation!

It is a bit uncanny how our stats are pretty close! Me, I decided to marry someone shorter - 5'10" so the height difference is so dramatic.

Here's to short people kickin' ass in the challenge!
