So here are some musings from me...

I've been reading Bytsi's log about freaking about the scale going up which got me thinking....

I have noticed during the last month where I pretty much have been weighing daily that during the week I notice and up and down of up to 2 pounds day to day, but at the end of the week I am usually down which is good. I have found that the days where the scale goes up, it makes me twice as careful to make sure I meet my target calories/exercise/water consumtion. After all that I have read with people following Leigh's programs I know that they work and based on my last month's progress, I personally have seen results. So... I will not let myself freak out. I am signficially down in weight, I feel good!

The other thing that I will remind myself is that over the last 10 years, it has been very easy for me to maintain. I usually do not gain significant amounts of weight - maybe 5 pounds or so, but nothing to be concerned about. What I have had lots of problems with is actually LOSING weight. Seems I would work my ass off at the gym and see perhaps a pound of loss in a month if I was lucky. But I still continue to do it because I knew it was good for me and I like doing outdoor activities (mostly hiking). After reading FLTS I now have the knowledge to know why all those years I didn't have success. So right now I am on target to be at my goal weigh by the end of the year! (about the 130 area). Once I am at my goal weight or near it I will switch to more of a muscle building program. So according to my caclucations, that's about 3 interations total of the OPT program.

So rest week is done, time to hit the gym again!

Ok It's been a couple of days since I posted:

Yesterday Exercies: Intervals for 40 minutes. I have to say taking a week off does amazing things! I felt like I could go FOREVER! Awsome feeling.

Eats:
GoalActualVariance
Calories1465145015.00
Protein35%30.98%4.02%
Carbs40%43.24%-3.24%
Fat24%24.78%-0.78%

Today - Program B1 of OPT program. Man this one hits the core in many ways!

Eats:
GoalActualVariance
Calories14651358107.00
Protein35%36.21%-1.21%
Carbs40%38.59%1.41%
Fat25%25.20%-0.20%

I've decided that I don't really like most of the on-line food trackers, so in true geekness created my own Access DB to track. I've been using CalorieKing to get the calories of stuff, but I have been just entering this in my own database. I'm sure the DB will be a work in progress, but I can tweek it to my likeness and create my own reports.

I know I'm a geek. But what's a computer programmer to do?

So today I am SO sore... It's been a week and half since I last lifted, and boy I felt it.

Still did the 40 minutes of intervals though!

Hey Jen-

I am with you on the food trackers. I was thinking the other day if I could actually program I would write something that suited me better. I use fitday and have been reluctant to change because now I have a years data in there.

you need to go to the USDA site and grab the nutrient database.
It doesn't have the restaurant meals that CK or DailyPlate do - but it is the underlying base for the composition of most of the usual foods that all the software uses.

I resisted the urge to do it in Access myself (although I have thought of it). At the moment I'll live with the FitDay PC version (not too bad). I figured I didn't need another task that would keep me sitting at the computer more.

Been keeping the calories on target - macros is another thing.

NEAT last week was down since I was SO sore from the lifting. I think it was just that I hadn't lifted for a week or so. I hope that this weeks lifting will not results in so much soreness. If it does, I think I will need to lower the weight or reps. Weekend's NEAT was high though. Went hiking on Saturday and hauled 4 cubic yards of landscaping rock on Sunday. Today I was sick so I didn't get my cardio in as scheduled. Will do it tomorrow. So today since I didn't exercise, I tried to be "gifted" in adjusting my calories for the lower activity level and ate 200 calories less. Hopefully this will keep me on track. The amazing thing is that I wasn't really hungry.

I've been noticing that overall I haven't been hungry. I think what I found is that I can get by with just smaller portions that I was eating before.

Oh and down another pound - 173!

Hi Jen,

I've been a lurker on the forum and signed up recently for the new challenge starting in August. I recently purchased Leigh's full program and plan to start OPT on August 4th. Reading your log has been truly inspirational and motivating for me.

Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks everyone!!!!!

It's amazing how at first the weight just seemed to melt off.. all that lovely water weight. Now it's the tough stuff. It looks like its going to be more like a pound a week then the 2-3 it was in the first month. When I look at the calorie intake compared what my cacluated burn is, it really is only 1 to 1.5 pounds of loss a week. In my geekness, I even created a report to show me how many pounds I should of lost. I think it will be very helpfull in that if my loss doesn't match the report, then it means that I am overstating my burn, and need to either decrease calories or up the NEAT!

I am really like this stage of the OPT program. I like the intervals. I am finding the jogging part of it at 75% of MHR really intresting becuase I have traditionally had trouble with running in that I can do it for a day to two but then the shins start hurting. It has not been the case with this program so far (knock on wood). I feel like I can jog forever. It's been over 10 years since I felt like I could "jog forever". Usually about 3-4 minutes in I think "when can this be over...." Now I am defiently not break any speed records. I'm jogging at 13 minute mile, but the point is that I'm doing it, I'm not killing myself, and I am enjoying it.

Now as far as the lifting part goes... it's ok. I really don't like the turkish get-ups. They seem really easy, but man it's hard to keep that arm up and they just wipe me out and they take FOREVER to do! I really did like some of the more interesting lifts in NROLW like the dumbell snatch. Once this weight is off, I really do think I will go back to NROLW. I switched out the overhead squat to the goblet squat. Found about that the goblet the other day, and I have to say I LOVE it. It really puts me in good form and I can really get that A** to the grass.

Unfortunally I seem to have tweaked something in the inner thigh/groin area on the left leg. Step-ups and lunges caused pain today and I am still feeling it this evening. I really hope it feels better tomorrow so I can do my jogging.

Eats are right on, and even under by 50-100 cal a day (and that's even with each lots of raspberries from my garden... mmmmm raspberries.. me love raspberries!)

So cross your fingers that by the end of this week I see 172 on the scale!

Yay for 172!!! Girl, when I see 172, the heavens will have opened up...I think the last time I saw a number like that I was in the 8th grade...Meh!!

Do you know where I can get exercise video demos for the specific exercises in OPT? That Turkish thingy looks like an accident waiting to happen for me.

Keep it up,
Donna

So this has been a freaky week as far as weight loss goes... got on the scale this morning - it read 170!!!! WTF? That puts me down 3 pounds since Sunday. The "math" doesn't add up for this EXCEPT that last week I didn't really lost any weight because of TOM, so perhaps it's just a culimation of 2 weeks of weigh loss (which would put me at 4 pounds for 2 weeks). Not that I am complianing! Won't be suprised if I see it up a pound tomorrow..

Yesterday I did the B2 lifting without any problem. The deads and squats did not aggervate my inner thigh problem - which seems to have mostly gone away.

Today we are going over to the coast to do some geocaching so that should be fun.

I hope that the 170 sticks for ya, Jen!!!

I don't think we'll ever figure out the ups and downs like we want to. But you know what.......if we are doing what we are supposed to, then there will be some kind of positive outcome (ie, clothes fitting better, more energy, better workouts, better attitude, sounder sleep, etc.).

Keep up that hard work!

I think you're right about AF affecting last week - the 170 sounds great! Don't be surprised if it bounces up slightly - my weight always (unfortunately) does that after a great loss... just watch your overall trend which I'm sure will be downwards!

Thanks! At this point I wouldn't be that discouraged if it bounces back up. (as long as it's not more than a few pounds). This morning it was still 170.. so holding steady so far! At any rate I still am down ALOT from a month ago.. so all is well!
