I've been a serious slacker when it comes to the exercise. I've done a little bit of Wii Fit and a tiny bit of lifting, but mostly I'm just counting every calorie (except for holiday party days - today was A's birthday, so didn't bother trying to track everything), and I lost 6 pounds in a month. The serious tracking that she talks about it FLTS has really inspired me. I haven't hit the macros or calories exactly, but I know what I'm eating and it's working.
that seems to be the key.. the tracking. the exercise is just a bonus in that it lets you eat a bit more and gives you a bit better body comp. Congrats on the 6 pounds by the way! (and say happy birthday to A)
So an actualy workout was achieved today! Did B2 lifiting from OPT. Weight has BALLOONED in the last couple of days... 143! Ouch. So today I ate a lot less to hopefully rein it in. Threw away all the holiday food at work on my desk. Threw away the rest at home too. I don't need any more tempetations! Well if nothing else, I enjoyed myself over the holidays and most is over except for a few days later this week but I plan to try not to overdo it much.
I've already taken the pics for the challenge, just need to take measurements.
Here I go! Out of town for a few days, so though I should go ahead and post.
My goals are to lose another 15-20 pounds, then start really hitting the weights and do a bulk? I am following Leigh's OPT program, though may switch over the OPT Remix, but not sure yet. Once I am done with that I will follow Power Training.
So as you all can see - that's me in my bikini! Really points out to me my "trouble spots". Can we say stomach people? Anyways, hoping that that keeps going down as I lose weight.
Post my weight as 140 as this morning back down to 141, so I'm pretty sure tomorrow it will be back to 140.
Today was just interval cardio and managed to run at 5.5 and keep the heart rate reasonable. Was feeling really good today and it almost made me think I could do this running thing again!
Hi, Jen! You brave thing, you! Bikini and everything!! It's great to have you join the challenge. I know you'll make amazing progress by June because of the amazing progress you've already made!
Looks good Jen - nice job rockin' that bikini! Can't wait to see you in June!

Like Pauline just said, it will be amazing to see where you are in June. Good luck, and congrats on deciding on the bikini pics after all.
thanks everyone! Happy new year to you too!
So the rationaly behing finally goin' with the bikini is that though I don't look great it in now it will be nice to see how great I look in in six months. Nothin' like a side by side comapre!
Seriously, Jen, you are looking good already. And I KNOW you'll have lots of improvement to show off soon. Happy New Year and good luck in the challenge!

Thanks both of you!
Can't wait until the holidays are officially over.... need to get back on the diet bandwagon. Monday & Tuesday were really good (ate really low about 900 kcal), but then NYE came and today...
Plans changed drastically today in that we were suppose to go to Montana to do Christmas with my family but the weather was SO icky that we made it to Hood River and turned back. 10 hour drive was looking to become more like 15+. TONS of rain here that made driving stressfull to turning into a major snow storm in Washington/Idaho/Montana. So we are home instead. Nice in some ways that we don't have to drive back on Sunday and I already had tomorrow scheduled off so I get a nice 4 day weekend. I am going to try to be on track tomorrow and going foward.
I see everyone doing 2009 goals. I really have never done that. I sort of just take things as they come. I have no idea where life will take me this year. I will continue on the path I am on for weight loss/fitness. Once I have the body I want, then I will need to refocus to maintenance. I might take up some sort of endurance sport like running or triathlons as it gives you something to look forward to and keeps you pushing foward. But who knows. I've seem so many people make wonderful tranformations here but the journey doesn't ever seem to go where one expects. My own example of my journey:
1. Join the YMCA in 2007.
2. Start attending a step/lifting class.
3. Start attending a power lifting class. (lose a bit of weight from program) Fall 2007
4. Buy New Rules of Lifting for Women (lose a bit of weight from program) in Feb 2008
5. Find JP Fitness Forum - March 2008
6. Discover Leigh Peele
7. Buy Leigh's books in May 2008
8. Lose 40 pounds in 5 months
9. Find a great support group in JPFitness
If you had asked me in Jan 2008 if this is what this year would have looked like, I would have not have even imagined it would turn out this way. I would never had though possible to lose that much weight that fast. So as far as health/fitness, 2008 was the most amazing year for me ever! So with that I know that lots is possible in 2009, but I will see where it leads me and not "pre-determine" it's course. I am on a course that I know is right, I'm on the right forum to get support & help, and above all I like this being skinny thing TOO DAMN MUCH to get off this course!
So there are my musings about what's to come in 2009 - GREAT THINGS, but what who knows!
Yeah, can I? I was hoping to play when my sister and her family were in town but between her being sick and the kids wanting to ski so much, we just never got to it...oh well, have some fun for me and don't get shot by any lasers or fall into any pits!!
Great musings on the year, also. I am mulling over goals--I never do New Year's Resolutions, but I'm feeling like this might be the year. (Albeit a little late...)
Gah... just not making good food choices over the holidays. Need to get under control. I think the problem is I do much better under a routine, and well with the holidays the routine has been broken. Last Wednesday I was back down to 140, today 143. Gah. I am going to try VERY hard to be on track today and tomorrow. Work days are easy to be on track, it's non-work days that are hard.
Anyways.... Today I went for a short bike ride in my "new" old bike. It's about 14 years old but a great bike. Specialized bike with a small frame for my short legs. I found that the "standard" size bike is just too big for me and kids bikes are too small. I think it's a size 17. DH got it tuned up and fixed for me for christmas. So between the rain clouds I went out to give it her a try. It's been SO long since I went for a bike ride. It was fun, but I did realize that my hips are quite tight (been sort of noticing with running too). So I think some foam rolling is in order today. the best part of the ride was realizing that I am in SO much better shape then I was last I rode (about 8 years ago?). It was pretty easy cardio wise.. my quads burned a bit on hills but not too bad.
Now I need to figure out how to get riding it into my routine. I think once the weather is nicer that I will use it to go to the grocery store since that's only about a mile away from the house. Riding to work is not really an option since I need to use the car for my piano teaching after work. I could bike perhaps on Fridays.
I hear ya' on the routine thing. I'm a little worried cuz the kids go back to school on Tuesday and I don't have a job to make me do things... I'm gonna have to find a new routine so I don't have too much down-time and mindless boredom / munching.
I'm thinking of volunteering, maybe at an animal shelter... dunno...
You're looking great - can't wait to see the 'after' picture later this year!
I hear you about routines - I haven't had any serious setbacks over the holidays, but it's much harder to stick to the calories when there is an entire table of fatty snacky foods in front of you at your department's or a friend's holiday party. We tossed the leftovers from A's birthday party that same night to avoid temptation. I arranged to have protein shakes at our hotel room at Disney World, and am going to try to avoid *gaining* any weight during the trip.
I now fit into some size 6 pants that I'd outgrown. I tried on my cute size 4 black pants and found that I can get them buttoned, but the button is in serious danger of popping, and the zipper is still a no-go.
A. would be seriously jealous of your robo-rallying if I told him about it. :-)
So the rationaly behing finally goin' with the bikini is that though I don't look great it in now it will be nice to see how great I look in in six months. Nothin' like a side by side comapre!
I think the bikini looks pretty good now too!

Me too. My routine was so messed up last week I forgot my daughter had a doctor's appointment! Oh well they fit us in this week.
I hope you do try OPT Remix. I'm curious about it. The idea that I would have to do what's written without changing it scares me a little.
I'm jealous of the biking! We live at the end of a series of one-lane, curvy, bumpy, holey, dirt & rock roads where idiots drive like, well, idiots and no escape (trees and fencing right up next to the road) so I'd be roadkill.
love the bikini, jen! you'll be rocking the beach this summer! good luck in the challenge!
thanks!

thanks! By the way I wear the same size as you now! I'm a 4/6 depending on the brand. And no roby rally - plans were changed. Probebly next weekend.

Thanks! I'm not sure about Remix yet is that it seems so strict on the exercise piece and I don't know I will be able to be compliant on that part.

Yuck! I grow up in the country, but we had wide open unused roads so biking was pretty safe. Here it's city so it's ok, but not great.

Thanks for checking in! Yep back to work and back on plan! Already down 2 pounds since Sunday.
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Down to 139 today! One pound more to be where I was add about 4 weeks ago. This weeks has been very little exercise, since it's week 9 of OPT. I felt like I really didn't need a whole week off since the holidays didn't see very much complience in food (though exercise was better). So I ran about 2.5 miles on Tuesday. I was going to run today but got too busy to do so. But diet has been great and weight has been comin' down.
It's sad isn't it, losing that weight a second time. The one positive that I take from it this time is that it was only 5 pounds for me. I'm glad that you're almost back to where you were.
