That Chloe makes me crazy with love and I adore the LAMB bag too. I need a patent bag, for sure. Right now I'm a Marc addict but I have a mental list of bags I'd love to own...just waiting for that trust fund to appear out of thin air.

For the record, despite being something of a tomboy, I've always loved shoes and bags.

I was thinking of you ladies earlier ... I went shopping and bought a very Marilyn-esque dress for tomorrow night ... and these C U T E shoes!! They are red with white polka-dots and little kitten heels! Not super-comfortable, but they'll do!

And the dress is similar to this ... I think it has a fuller skirt ... and was a little longer on me ...

So I will admit, when my hubby got into the NROL I was kind of jealous...and sort of wishing I could find a program that was for me that was something I felt comfortable with, meaning something that wasn't lots of cardio...and not heavy weights, seeing as I prefer the heavier weigh lifting...and I was only half listening to the things he was saying because I always felt like they didn't apply to me. (sorry honey..lol)

But after really finally sitting down this afternoon and really reading the NROLW...I am SO EXCITED!!! I had thumbed through the book...telling myself I had all summer to read it before the challange in August...but I had some time today and decided to read a bit. I have to say I am only on page 38....but any woman who has not yet read this book is doing herself a serious disservice!!! All of the frustrations I have had training with people who insist on high reps...low weights...and strict alarming calorie restrictions....were discussed in this book thus far. Non of it ever worked for me...and now I know I'm not alone...and that there is another route to take. I am going to change some of my cardio training...and also probably buy the book for my trainer...give him a little light reading. At the very least...maybe it will help his next victim ya know???

I feel vindicated in the feeling that not only can I lift heavy...but it's something my body is made to do too. I have always been the type of women who is offended at work when they ask for "a guy" to help lift something heavy. I would always volunteer...and it made my competitive side feel good to carry the 2, 5 gallon Poland Springs bottles up the stairs when the other 2 guys carried one...and thought I was psycho. (lucky for me i know how to lift heavy things the right way)

I am so excited to start the challenge in August...and in the meantime...I am excited to keep up my downward trend so I will hopefully not have to modify too many of the exercises because of my knees!

This book is teh awesum!!!! THANKS TO THOSE WHO WROTE IT!!!
Yes...I'm a big book dork...I can't help it.

BOXING DAY!!!

Warmup
Punches Straight Out & Straight Up 2 Mins alternating every 30 secs w/5lb weights

Superset – 3 sets each, 1 min each set

10 punches straight out w/ 5 lbs & then 2 squats
Alternating Jackknife w/ exercise ball

Pad Training: 3 rounds
Combinations, jabs, hooks, uppercuts & then duck!
These were fun…but exhausting!!!

Last Exercise: 2 mins of Russian Twists – legs on the floor tho!

I love the boxing!!! It’s my favorite thing. I was thinking maybe for the summer…I’ll do two days of training only and do boxing for both…that way I have plenty of time for my own workouts till August…and then plenty of time for NROLW during August…we’ll see. I still really like having someone there to push me…especially in the boxing because I could never do it by myself.

Anywhooooo…feeling great…and tonight is avocado & cheese omelette night again!!! YAYYY!!!

Starting in August is fine, but just so you know, the current challenge allowed for any workout/lifting routine. It just happened that a number of people were following the book's workouts. In August I'll be somewhere in the middle of it (and unsure what I'm going to do next), but I know that's okay.

So, if you're keen to start now, go for it. Or, do other things until then and start it with the challenge.

And my recommendation is that it seems many women GOT knee problems when doing NROL4W ... so keep that in mind and keep doing the pre-hab that you and I came up with. And lots of quad stretching. And really focusing on getting those glutes to do the work and not your quads.

I didn't know that! I was wondering if I'd be starting in the middle...

Yeah, I was looking through the workouts and going...hmmm jump lunges...maybe there's a substitute for those...

My knees have actually been doing pretty well...a combo of the exercises you gave me and more gluteal work and proper squatting in general....the quad stretching was HUGE for me....they are so damn tight...since I sit most of my day...actually I've been thinking of getting a ball to sit on in the office...do you think that would be good for me??

Balls are good, don't you know that? Especially since you're a woman and they're the latest gimmicky fitness thing... you're drawn to it, addicted to it like ... chocolate and shoes.

I just started stage 3, and although I tried, the lunge jumps and the squat jumps were a no go. I had practiced them in the pool, but even there, they hurt. I just double the number of squats and lunges, which is still (for me) not easy.

My knees were iffy at the start. I'm not sure if it was the new movements or the fact that I was using the treadmill a fair bit as well. By the end of Stage 1 (when I took a rest week) the problems seemed to resolve themselves.

I was guessing they were gonna be problems for me too...I think doubling the # of squats and lunges sounds like a good compromise...but owwwww that's gonna hurt Bob... I haven't done a lunge in awhile either, since my arthritis is in my kneecaps, whenever I put forward pressure on my knees I generally pay for it the next few days. I can do squats...just not as low as i used to...but they get the job done!

Thanks for your input...it's really helpful to hear about how you made changes and still made it work...and it's nice to know I'm not the only one having these issues... I've also recently learned the value in a rest week...so I'm sure after I start one of the stages...I'll follow that suggestion wholeheartedly!

Sometimes. That show is so deadpan… I'm always impressed they can manage to keep it together long enough to film.

So...cleaned the apt again yesterday...had some closets to clean out and clothing to put away...lots of bending and lifting. It was good got my heart rate moving, I wore my monitor cause I was curious about approx calories burned. For an hour and a half it was about 365...not too bad! Granted I did more lifting and toting than dish washing...so that's why...but still it made me feel good to do something. With the added plus of course that the apt is cleaner... (till next weekend...lol)

We then went to the park with our friends and their daughter who is a year and 2 mos old. They will be leaving in October to move to Portland for good. We are really going to miss them...and have been trying to spend as much time with them on the weekends as we can! It will be nice tho to have someone to visit in Portland...but...I's still rather they stay here!!!

Cardio:

Intervals on the Cross Ramp Trainer on the Gluteal Setting for 21 mins.

I was just upping my speed...going from an average of 140bpm-170+. I did one minute hard and 2 mins stable. After that I did another 10 mins SS on the Elliptical. Gonna try this for awhile and see how I like it. Not sure what the range is for a good fall of heart rate after exercise but it looked like I was falling from 174ish back to 148 in a minute...is there a scale that shows these times or does anyone know what's good and what's not??? Just curious! Anywhooo..almost din din time!

Surprise workout today...we decided to go to the gym! We desperately needed to go shopping anyway, and the A&P is near the gym so we did double duty. I just finished steaming cauliflower and baby eggplants and cooking up some portobellos to go with out turkey burgers with avocados tonight....mmmmm...also made some baby spinach. We bought this flavored olive oil awhile ago, it has shallots, marjoram and a bit of truffle oil in it...and it's SOOOO good with the mushrooms and spinach...I can't wait to eat the spinach!!! YAYYY!!!

I'm sure there are lots of answers to this. According to the American Heart Association you should exercise between 50 to 85% of your maximum heart rate. At 30, your age, that would be: 95 - 162, with 190 being your max

Target Heart Rates

The article suggests starting at 50% and working your way up to 75% and within 6 months you may be able to exercise comfortably at 85%. There are a lot of opinions (I'm sure you'll get a better one than mine). I suspect as long as you're doing something that's a good thing.

I tend to average high 70s/low 80s on the treadmill, but sometimes I think this might be bad for my knees. I'm trying to back that off a little, but can't tell you if it's more or less effective yet. Also, right now I'm only doing cardio twice a week, so it may not do much one way or the other.

Somewhere there's a frickin chart or something that discusses recovery rate, and how it's actually a better indicator of cardiovascular health than just simple resting heart rate.

However, at the moment I can't seem to get google to help me out with that.

I'll mention it if I find it again.
