lGay bars are a lot of fun when youre 20, the men are very cute (but not available) no one hassles you and you can dance like no tomorrow. ahh, thats where my youth went.. and my parents never knew..
Agreed. One of my best friends in late high school / early college, was gay. This was a town without much of a gay scene at the time (if it has one now even), so we had lots of fun together. No hassles, and he loved to dance.
i'm feeling very bleugh.. the sinus fairy tapped me on the shoulder on Monday, and now I am trying to chill out and go through antibiotics once more. I seem to attack fitness and diet too hard, and then my immune system says, whoa, youre not 25 anymore. so I will still stay in the challenge, but I think I will swallow my pride and just stick to 1 circuit class, one full body lifting session and walking and take it from there. last week I was in the gym 4 times, and i did a lot of walking as well and it was too much.
I'm hoping i dont lose LBM, if I'd built any, because I weighed myself and I am a few pounds lower. but then again, I dont want to eat anything because I cant taste anything!
playing around with this, not easy when my head feels like its going to implode.. the numbers have dropped but i think this is due to the sinus stuff and not wanting to eat, so next month will be a true measure
still feeling pretty grotty, the sinus has gone, but now I have a tummy bug that has given me tummy cramps and an overwhelming urge to run to the toilet. not great, but i can stay in bed reading the newspapers and cuddling the dog. our dog is still around, everytime my dh decides its time, the dog will do something amazing like walk up the steps on her own or become really animated.
so no fitness this week, really hoping this clears up by the end of the weekend. thanks for the well wishes too
Feeling much better. I was so bored of seeing the four walls this week we all went to the beach, even the dog. It was bloody freezing though, but I kind of like the beach in winter, it feels so much more wild when it is blowing a gale and the waves are whipping around and there are not too many folks around.
so good to be feeling normal again. back at work tomorrow and I will work this week on my nutrition and some walking and bodyweight stuff
I agree, such a pretty beach. I love going to beaches in the off season, when they're empty. Around here though, it's just way too cold (oh, and there's lots of snow). And our beaches aren't the ocean, just lakes.
It snowed!! I am so excited, I ran outside with the kids and we were chasing snow flakes. I know all of you in the US are probably snowed in where you are, but I have never really seen it or much less played in it. Its so cool to see all the kids out playing in it too, you are never too old to have spontaneous legal fun!
Lots of walking today, and a bit of body weight stuff, looking forward to going to the gym tomorrow.
more snow photos.. the school was closed today, my kids were ecstatic and were out playing all day.
this is my son escaping through a hole in the back fence to get to the park
we had a 'discussion' about the choice of shorts in this weather, he won.. the climbing frame in the park is great for doing pushups, as I can vary the height. one day I will get around to posting some fitness stuff. Im thinking of passing on NROLW and doing a simple lifting programme. I always seem to crash about three weeks in.
I agree, this whole country has come to a stand still. the trucks have run out of grit to put on the road, no one knows how to drive, no one is going into work.. I spoke to a guy from New York last night in the pub and he thinks its hilarious the UK cant handle a few inches of snow..
A lot of parents are hopping mad this week as a lot of the schools have been closed all week, some have taken their kids with them to work and some have had to stay home.
Ah teenage boys and their raging metabolisms! My son regularly loses his coat b/c he hardly ever wears it and doesn't remember to put it on when we leave places. Tonight he's skiing in a hoodie.
So what kind of "simple lifting" program are you thinking about? I love hearing what & why people choose programs.
Well NROLW seems to backfire on me, especially when I combine it with circuit training, which I really enjoy. So my change of plan this time is to go with Tom Venuto's plan. It has about 8 exercises in each workout, starting from 2-4 compoud exercises, like deadlifts, squats, rows and presses, then two ab exercises, and two isolated movements like bicep curls, tri presses, calf raises, etc. The first four are two supersets. He programmes that the reps and sets change after four weeks, so each programme lasts eight weeks. After the first programme you subsitiute exercise so that you arent doing the same thing, eg dumbell squats become step ups, static lunges, barbell squats, etc. There is also a beginner stage that is 4 weeks. Every workout should take about 30-40 minutes max, which suits me because it seems that NROLW seems to take progressively longer.
My reason for doing this is that fat loss is a priority for me, and I want it to be achievable with a deficit that doesnt suck my energy or wipe out my immune system. I'm starting it tomorrow and I plan to supplement it with some steadystate moderate intensity cardio, as the HIIT wipes me out too. When I get the fat loss done and can maintain it NROLW will be on the slate again.
I think that was long winded enough! The boys dad is coming over to see them for two weeks at easter, he is coming with his girlfriend who is also English and they will be staying up around Newcastle. Its ironic that Im aussie and fell for an english boy and followed him to the UK, and now my ex has an English gf in Australia and is coming to the UK. The upside of this is that DH and I have booked a one week trip to Prague in April. I bought a Lonely Planet guide which tells me that they eat pork, beef, dumplings, cheese and lots of beer. so lord knows I will look like a dumpling when I come back.

I can relate to that, my son kept losing his coats at friends, and in turn his friends kept leaving their coats at my place. Hope your migraines are under control. I used to get them as a kid, but they went when I was 13. I always had nausea with them, and as soon as I threw up they went away, and oranges and chocolates would always set them off.
MAIN COURSES
Beef sirloin in a cream sauce and served with dumplings - 189czk
Goulash "U Fleku" with flab dumplings and bread dumplings - 189czk
Fillet of pork shoulder served with sauerkraut and potato dumplings - 189czk
Smoked pork neck served with red cabbage and flab dumplings - 189czk 1/4 roast duck, fillet of pork shoulder and a sausage - 329czk
I'm worried about the 'flab dumplings' - a hint at what you will look like?
finally did a workout. pretty simple but I still felt it
Warmup
arm circles 15 forward, 15 back
thai twists, (standing and twisting your body to the left and right)
hip circles 10 to the right, 10 to left
forward lunges, hands on head, 15 each leg
15 pushups
squats 1x 15 3kg db
deadlifts 1 x 15 3kg db
bench press 1x15 3kg
rows 1x15 3kg
reverse crunch x 15
this was repeated, as a circuit
I did the workout at home, so only had access to the 3kg db. This is really simple and I really want to do it in the gym using a barbell for the squats and deadlift. Taking it slowly this time, cardio tomorrow
Just stopping by to check on you. Are these from his new book? I am reading it based on you and some other recommendations. Keep up the good work and focus! You are doing well.

Yep, the above workout is from the beginners phase which takes four weeks. The warm up is for every workout, and that leaves me fully warmed up as the lunges and pushups are taxing. His nutrition guidelines are good too, like having starchy carbs as your X factor - if youre gaining, then reduce them, and if youre at maitenance have one or two servings a day. There is a lot of stuff in there with regards to the mind battle of fat loss. I think Craig Ballantyne said once you resolve yourself and accept that fat loss is difficult, and stop fighting it , it will become easy. Fat loss is simple, but its not easy! Thanks for the encouragement too.
Hope you're feeling better and that everyone is looking after you. At least you had the op done in winter, so the walking boot wont be too out of place. I'm sure nurses are used to women cussing, I've yet to hear a childbirth story that didnt involve a few choice words, unless youre a scientologist..

LOL, true.
I do love the book and plan to finish reading it, while I am down and out.

The new workout plan sounds good. I need to come up with a short & sweet one for the warmer months, too, since I'll be outside with my usual redneck stuff a lot.
Ew on the Prague menu! Ptooey! I'd have to take some food with me, I think.

.
What's the redneck stuff? Do you wear overalls stuffed with straw and shoot wild boar, to a pumping Bon Jovi soundtrack?? just joking..
Did a half assed workout today, the same one as the other day. My dog went downhill on monday, and hasnt recovered. We meant to put her down just before Xmas but she bounced back. (she's 18 years old )This time she's really out of it, and hasnt eaten any food since Monday. Ive tried her favourites, chocolate, sausages and bacon but there is no interest. The hard part is that DH is away all week, and was meant to come back tomorrow night but hes coming back tonite. The dog is so tough I'm sure she is waiting for him. We are all so sad, and I cant imagine what the house will be like without her. oh and my diet has been crap too, lots of chocolate and red wine. blehh.. went to the pub last night, took the dog (you can do that in pubs in the UK) and everyone in the pub came over to talk to us because they
knew by looking at her it was her last pub outing. blehh..
Next week I shall get with the programme again, and shoot anyone that brings chocolate or sugar into the house
We said goodby to our darling dog today, the vet will do a house visit as we couldnt take her to the surgery as she always hated it. it would be like me taking my last breath in the dentists chair..
DH and son are all tears, and Im trying to hold it together. Most macabre workout will be digging the hole in our rocky garden. blehh, happy valentines day for everyone tomorrow.
So sorry about the dog. It's such a hard decision to make, especially when you can't communicate using words. Hope things get a little better. How nice that it could be done with a home visit. Our pets also hate going, and I suppose it would be so much nicer if it could be done at home.
