Sally, you always make me laugh! I gotta remember not to take a drink of anything before I read your posts, or else I'll snort it ... Have a great weekend too - and I know you'll stick with your plan while you're away.

Today - cardio on the stairmaster - 30 min, avg HR 145-150. Not exactly low-intensity, but no HIIT either...

Sore, but... not as bad as it could be

I ate way too much SALT yesterday (I think I could easily be a beef-jerky addict), and the scale was up (AGAIN!!!). So today - no salty foods (duh!). Gotta ration that jerky . Plus TTOTM is due soon (when? hmmmm... anytime in the next 3-4 days?).

Tomorrow is "day off" but I'll be pretty active for much of the day, just not an official workout... then plan for Sunday is stage 3 B1...

We're going out to dinner Sat night AND to a "mother's day brunch buffet" on Sunday... YIKES!
Must plan ahead... must behave... most NOT say "but it looks goooooood..." and convince myself that it's ok to be a little piggy!

WOW!! How cool that you and Ms Jane are so close. Can't wait to hear about that first meeting. Nice job on the BW matrix by the way. I love the numb feeling and DOMs feeling.

Bytsi,
I can't remember if the book says to do this or not??? But, are you taking another week break between Stage 2 and 3? I feel like I JUST took a break and don't really want to take another one right now....just wondering if you were?

Hey Nik - not taking a break yet - I figure every 6-10 weeks is PLENTY for breaks... I'll have to reread that part, but definitely not after every 3!

I got a crackberry (my first) and I've become obsessed with learning the damn thing! I have 30 days to decide if I keep it, my first "smart" phone (not sure if it's THAT smart though!)...

Other than that - I had to work this morning, but DH and DS ran a race (DS clocked an 8:40 1-mile run - not bad for a little guy!)...

Then our karate school's ribbon-cutting and grand opening were this afternoon. For a day off, I'm wiped out! We did demos about 5 times (?) plus a class (to show what they would look like) AND sensei had me be his crash-test dummy (DUMMY is the key here) for women's self defense, so I had to be attacked by him 3 times (did I mention he's 6'4" and at least 240#?). I'm SO tired...

We went out to dinner, so I was very well-behaved all day, but not sure what I did macro/cal for dinner... I had one slice of bread (I was starving) and a wonderful avocado and crabmeat salad (on lettuce, not the "mayo" kind of salad). Then I had seafood over pasta but I skipped the pasta part... So far so good, but then the four of us at dinner split a bunch of desserts...

I don't feel stuffed, so probably not too much damage done. TTOTM started today, so I'm hoping to shed that stupid water-weight (and chocolate craving)!!

Headache too... so I'm going to bed... planning a workout on mother's day (it's MY day, right?). Happy mom's day to everyone who has a mom or is a mom!

Oh crud... I forgot it was Mother's day. I gotta call my Mom.

I am so grateful that my TOM doesn't affect my eating and cravings. I know that I generally weight less the week after so I guess it does affect water retention but it isn't so much that I feel differently.

Happy mother's day! My kids BAKED cookies for me. Full-fat sugar-filled iced cookies. So proud of themselves for not fighting too much, and even cleaned up afterwards (wow!). How do you say no to cookies?????

Had an ok workout this morning (will post below), then met my parents for mom's day brunch buffet. Had a reservation, but it was packed and they said 30 min. wait WITH reservation... my dad had a COW, we stormed out, ended up at a different (but very nice) buffet. I shoulda / coulda behaved better... but I suppose it could've been worse too. I'm gonna have a greek yogurt for dinner cuz I was a bit of a piggy earlier LOL... Tried to stick to mostly protein and salad, but had a bit of sweet stuff too... no bagels or muffins or gorgeous fresh-cooked belgian waffles though... I think my overall kcals and macros are ok - just not spread out well.
-------------------------
Today - Stage 3 B1. Not loving this stage...

Bbell RDL / Row - 3x6 80#, 100#, 100#

Partial 1-leg squat - 3x6

Wide grip lat pulldown - 3x6 @ 130#

Back Extension - 3x12 bodyweight on roman chair

YTWL - 3x6 w 5# db's

Abs - done as superset of all 3 exercises

Cobra - 3x90 (good thing my workout buddy was cracking me up or I'd have quit out of boredom!

HIIT - stairmaster 8 sets of 30 seconds level 10 / 3 plus w/u and cooldown

Other thoughts... this workout just seems kinda boring and not challenging enough as a whole. Each individual exercise is mostly ok for challenge, but I think I might do real supersets instead of rest between each exercise... I don't need 105 seconds for most of them, and I just don't see where I could go higher in weight to increase intensity that way. I hadn't planned the HIIT, but I wasn't tired enough - makes me want to just repeat stage 1!!!

I wish I didn't crave food... sometimes I don't even realize that's why I got so hungry til TTOTM shows up and then I go "d'oh!"

That was quite a workout, Bytsi! You are so strong that I bet it's hard to go heavier to make it more challenging!! Me, in my wimpiness, would probably be dying at the end of that workout if I attempted the same weights!!

That was so sweet of your kids trying their hardest to make you a surprise. Do surprise cookies have calories?

I've been warding off the carb crave all day. I can't let myself have one little pretzel without wanting to eat the whole minibag. What's up with that?

That was so sweet of your kiddos to do some baking for you. And I agree with Pauline........holiday cookies have NO calories......LOL

I wouldn't worry about your calories today since you mentioned that overall they end up okay......Just start tomorrow with buckling down again!

It does seem a bit ... less, doesn't it? Although with the weight you throw around, it's more of a workout than I can do!

Hope your Mother's Day was happy, Byts.

Hey Bytsi -

Its going great! We are really having a lot of fun. It seems like we have learned so much in only a few weeks and I can hardly imagine where we'll be in a year.
Last Thursday, the instructor was demonstrating a point about a self-defense move we were working on and he showed how the correct arm position could lead into a lot of other stuff, including a take-down that he demonstrated. Everyone in the class was in awe and I know we were all thinking I want to learn that! He said we will learn it later on.

Your Mother's Day sounds wonderful, especially the clean-up after the cookies part!

Hey Pauline... I did finally eat one of the cookies - kinda banana-bread flavored - YUM! You would NOT be dying after my workout, as you are far from wimpy!!! I've got a LOT more pounds on my body than you do, which gives the ILLUSION of strength...

Carbs - you're like me... I'm better off eating none than a little bit of those delicious crunchy salty snacks. I can start off not-that-hungry and it leads to clearing out the cupboards if I get started

How was your mother's day Sally? Seems like you survived your weekend pretty well...

I just figured out that I was supposed to do the HIIT after 3B anyway (d'oh!!!), but still... I dunno... I may do like Jane and end up cutting out early when this workout comes back in stage 5. I may also add some pushups or SOMETHING to increase it a bit for now... or at least add more reps on stuff like the 1-leg squats where I can't increase weight.

I couldn't believe the kids cleaned up... although we did still find some evidence of their cooking ...

I love self-defense. I help teach our women's self defense classes and get used (abused) by sensei. Adding a pic from this weekend's open house (the only one I have, not a great shot) of Sensei lifting me up off the ground in a "bear hug" attack. I don't have pics of the ground attacks, so this is the best I can do for now. My arms have bruises from him slamming into me... but at the end of this one, I threw him, so it's all good

Hehe, isn't that the great thing about self-defense classes? No matter how big the guy, you know you're gonna get to throw him around

Sounds like you had a good Mother's Day. Only 1 cookie out of the batch? You've got will power.

For the partial squat, have you thought about trying band assisted pistols? That's my plan for stage 5, if I can find a band in my gym. I might just bring my own. I'm pretty sure that I'll fall on my ass even with the band though, but, it the people in the gym are used to seeing me do strange things now.

I start stage 5 tomorrow & am thinking of doing the same thing (band-assisted pistol squats). Since there are only 4 reps, I plan to go for it at one point. Bytsi, I think this would be worth trying to increase stage 3 difficulty for you.

Thanks for stopping by

I made sugar cookies on Saturday too - we had friends over for a BBQ so we had lots of bad for you food. I had one on Saturday and one on Sunday. That is amazing willpower!

I am going to be starting stage 3 tomorrow and am curious to see how it turns out for you - wish me luck with the matrix!

Well... one cookie so far... I ALMOST brought the plate to work (to deplete the supply), but... yeah... ALMOST doesn't count, right?

I'm gonna try the squats again... It's not that they aren't hard, on their own. It's just not hard OVERALL as a workout - I don't leave at the end thinking "I can't even walk..." like I did with the first 2 stages... I dunno... I think it's the long rests more than anything... supersetting should help with that.

I may try that soon, but for now, with the squats I'll either hold db's or probably just add a few reps for now (my balance work could use 'em anyway)

We had the same experience with the reservation at the buffet - 50 minutes after the reservation, we were finally seated. My dad's head was about to explode.

That's awesome about the self-defense demo! I am thinking of taking another martial arts class when my resting thing is over.

Glad you had a good mother's day!

You should definitely do that!

Yesterday did an hour on the Pilates reformer and killed my core, really stretched out my pathetically tight muscles... Then had karate - it was a good workout... but then I came home and ate the damn house. BLEW my cals... yeah, it was relatively healthy food, but calories are calories and I majorly overate. Bad planning on my part, ate too much early in the day and didn't save enough calories for after karate .

But today is a new day, right?

This morning:
Stage 3, A2

1 arm DB snatch: 3x6 of 25#, 25#, 30#

DB single-leg RDL: 3x6 of 2x30#'s

Bbell bent row: 60# (warmup), 3x6 of 100#

DB single-arm overhead squat: 3x6 of 20#/10#

DB incline bench press: 3x6 of 2x40#'s, 2x40#'s

Plank: 90, 60 (with one knee drop), skipped the 3rd (no time, no motivation since I did Pilates yesterday and worked the heck outta my core)

Reverse wood chop: 2x6 @ 40#'s (no time for 3rd)

BW Matrix: 2:50, 2:39

I did this as true supersets today - no rest between paired exercises, but took about 105 seconds (maybe slightly less) between paired sets. If I needed the rest, I took a few (around 20?) seconds before doing the 2nd exercise...
And I was SOAKED and panting and loved it (I'm very sick, aren't I?).
BWM - HURT. My thighs cramped up, quads said HELL NO and I had to stop and gasp during the jumping moves, but my time was still better than last week. I think one reason I hit 2:39 might be because my range of motion could've been a tad less than ideal by the 2nd time through .

That sounds like a great workout! Way to go on the BW matrix!

I have never used a pilates reformer before. Do you do that it in a studio or at home?

I do it at work - we have 5 reformers and a great instructor, so I just stay late after work and do a lesson. It's something I'd always wanted to try, and I know my flexibility sucks (and I'm horrible when it comes to taking time to stretch)! The instructor laughs at me because I'm very strong but have no range of motion on some things .

I am the same way RE being flexible. I am not at all. But hey, I'm strong and that counts for something right?

I am wondering RE the calories after Karate if that is such a big deal. I understand that if you are going to overeat that after cardio is the best time to do it. Also I am wondering if you are eating well enough up into the time of your workout. I know if I workout already hungry that I cannot stop my face feeding afterwards. If I eat about 1 hour before though I can stop over feed after.

Good going, Bytsi! Your weights are so heavy, and your time on BWM is great. You deserve to eat a little more than you might think! That's serious work.

I'm looking forward to adding the BWM in somewhere soon. Just not sure where/how yet.

Hey Karla... I definitely overate (by about 500 calories!!!!!). And I HAD eaten before karate - had a PW shake and a little other food too... my mistake was twofold: I ate too big a proportion of calories early in the day, and I ate salty food afterwards (which triggered the pig-out).

I dunno about the eating more stuff... I cut down on the recommended calories (by only about 50 cals) because I didnt lose any weight in the first month or so, and I NEED to lose a few (15-ish) more pounds. Even accounting for body fat %, I'm overweight and trust me 15# off is NOT putting me at a low number... in fact, it's still borderline overweight for my height if you just do BMI...

Doing a bit better today with food but I am hungry

Hey Bytsi~
Haven't stopped by in a few days, thought I would say hello and GREAT JOB! Your workout looks tough (as usual)!!!

I look forward to starting Stage 3 next week.....I had planned for (but realized later) that Stage 2 does not have AMRAP. So, guess I will be starting Stage 3 maybe this weekend??? I just can't imagine doing the last workout tomorrow and then taking 3 days off before I start? I am looking forward to BWM though, curious how those turn out for me!? haha

NIK~

Hi Nik - yeah, the AMRAP's are only in stage 1, as far as I know... Take 3 days off - it won't kill you! You can always do a HIIT or SS cardio on one of the days if you want... "Enjoy" the BWM. Bwahahahaha (that's my evil laugh).

Getting geared up for karate tonight... I HATE late classes, but I dont get to pick the schedule.

Food today's been pretty good - I'm about 40 calories over my non-workout cals (assuming I don't blow it later) and my macros are 36 protein, 36 carbs, 28 fat. I'm aiming for 1600/1800 (dropped form 1650/1850), but since I blow through it sometimes, I don't know if I should've even bothered dropping it by a lousy 50 calories, instead of just trying to stick to it a little better... I have saved my PWO for after karate, and although I did eat a little beef jerky today, I didn't finish the entire bag again (which is 3.5 servings and only 280 cals BUT way too high in salt).

And... I am proud of myself - I stopped at the grocery on the way home, and bought fun salad toppings and veggies and stuff. I've been spending more $ buying stuff from the salad bar, etc etc, instead of making my own. So I got stuff I like (although the avocado is a bit over-ripe), sliced my veggies into baggies, pre-measured stuff on my food scale into little containers (almonds, pine-nuts, etc) so I can grab and go in the morning. I even made some hard-boiled eggs tonight without gassing the entire family to death . And of course I got some canned tuna I can keep at work for "emergencies"...
