To me, it just looks like random jumping from machine to machine with a few "trick" exercises thrown in to make it look like he's doing something - there's no overall appearance of a plan here. That bothers me...
Hope this isn't too blunt, but - I just don't like this guy's training.
If I could have thought it out this clearly and succinctly, I would have written this.

Planning to try the holiday boot camp class tomorrow at the gym. It's run by a very young (20-ish?) ex Marine... hmmmmm...
SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THE COOKIES STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO AWAY COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
I had to work one in this afternoon (hadn't planned it). I keep trying to figure out if I can work another one in later, but probably wont. When we don't have any in the house it's not like I crave them or anything.
LOL at the cookies. I managed to NOT make or receive cookies this year. People are wising up to the idea that I can't eat sugar finally.
Uh... An a former Marine, I want to wish you good luck in that class....
LOL thanks!
My friend's facebook status says "why would you give a pizza stone to someone who doesn't eat carbs?"

Thanks! I wasn't sure how far to take that one (and Chloe, if you're reading this, hope it was ok) but I really am NOT impressed at all. Trainer seems like too many I've seen over the years, and it's a waste of $ and an injury risk... Random bopping around from machine to machine and throwing in some "cool exercise I saw this other guy doing" is what it sounds like to me!

Good luck with the boot camp.
Well, I'm not working the damn cookies in - but they're getting eaten
143 again. I guess I found my maintenance weight - about 3# higher than I was, just like Leigh always says... sigh...

Good luck with your boot camp...
So, did boot camp. Bleh. Did not like.
It was 25 people (holidays will do that) and I WANTED to like it. My friend and her H took it too... started with a 1/4 mile "jog", then some static stretching (uh oh). Then we did 3 sprint laps with no rest (just "jog" the corners of the 8-lap track for rest). Then we went into a room and spent the next 50 minutes basically doing: Pushups (and a few pushup variations or having to hold ourselves in the "down" position) Mountain Climbers Crunches (or straight-leg flutter kicks) Jumping Jacks
Just over and over and over, repeating those few exercises. No variety, my shoulders felt like they were going to DIE from all the pushups and mountain climbers. Every once in a while, we'd do lunges or squats too, but mostly just those four. No rest, no break... He'd just shout "over for mountain climbers GO" and then "Pushups GO" and then "Jumping Jacks GO", etc etc...
I did not enjoy it. I was DEAD tired and at my limit, but not in a "wow, I had fun, pushed myself" way. In a "I was beaten to a pulp but didn't feel like a well-rounded workout" way. Reading my post, it doesn't look that bad or lacking in variety, but for a full hour - it was pretty bad. We could've done it for 15-20 minutes, then maybe moved on to something (ANYTHING) else!
Afterwards, I went into the weight room and did 2x12 cable row @ 100# just because my front was SOOOO dead and I'd done not one single thing to challenge my back. Legs were jelly too, which is fine (from squats, lunges, one set of step-ups), but...
I dunno. I've been bored and wanted something fun - like what Ginger's class did. This was not it.
awww, that sucks. that does sound like a crappy boring experience. I can't say I'd have enjoyed it… frickin spin classes have more variety and they're just "stand, sit, stand, sit". Well, at least you burned some calories, got in a good push workout, and know not to do THAT again.
Well it makes sense... Take a young former Marine and don't train them about how to train and this is what you get. Still that sounds like an excessive class. We didn't do that sort of shit in the Corp very often. We did 15-30 min of bw exercises (mountain climbers, pushups, etc) and then 30 min of run (usually 3 miles). Our bw exerciese did include core work too.

Calories burned - check! Crappy and boring - check! Won't do it again - CHECK!!!

LOL, I actually DID ask him... I tried to be tactful, but I asked if the variety was lacking due to large class size or ??? He didn't get it. He kinda tried to explain to me the need to fatigue a muscle to get growth, but... what he did was NOT the way to do that! He seems VERY young, and is, perhaps, a good example of having read a few books (maybe?) but having NO understanding of practical applications of knowledge or program design...
He's also a very sweet kid, but the same one who originally advertised his services for training as offering "ply metrics" (no, not a typo!)

Exactly. At least I tried.

Core work is fine, etc etc... but yeah. I don't know if I'll be able to move my arms tomorrow!
BTW - I'm not posting lots of Merry Merry's, etc in each individual log... I'm just gonna post in here to EVERYONE. I have said, many times, how much this community means to me... so to all who celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas. To all who celebrate nothing or "other" - Happy Solstice (or Festivus)...
And since I celebrate Hanukkah... Happy Hanukkah!!!
I have NEVER found those boot camp things appealing. I'm married to a Marine and he doesn't look back fondly on the things they did, and guess what, jumping jacks are not preparing you for war, which is the whole purpose of boot camp! It's just not aptly named at all. I dunno, it just annoys me. My favorite part is that they are usually at some ungodly hour - like 5 am - just to make people feel more like they are soldiers or something. Silly
/end rant
Anyhow, I hope you are having a very happy Hanukkah!
Ok, that cat was totally great. Had to post that on someone's wall.
And here's a great present for ya Otto found whilst on the intertubez… Granted, I'm re-gifting in a way, but I think when you see it you'll understand the awsumness of it all.
Hi Bytsi - Happy Hanukkah! I will be celebrating this holiday as well tonight when I crack open the Jewbelation 12 I've got chilling in my fridge. With 12 different malts, 12 different hops and 12% abv (alcohol by volume), it's enough to light anyone's menorah.

142.5. Holding very steady at maintenance here, which is good because I am SO not "on the wagon" when it comes to any semblance of a deficit here .
*
My butt is sore from boot camp...*

Yeah, that cat maybe doesn't QUITE have the holiday spirit?!?!? It's nice when the holidays overlap - a year or 2 ago, Hanukkah started the day after Thanksgiving. I was NOT ready!!!

Married a Marine, eh? Lucky you!!!! (ok, I think men in uniform are hot. Just don't tell my H )
*
At least this bootcamp wasn't early - it was 10am, which IMHO, was actually quite late to start! *It's offered again on New Year's Eve and I WAS going to do it, but nope! Gotta find something else to do that day.
*
And... ITA - how would jumping jacks prepare ANYONE for war?

Food yesterday was good - too good! First we saw "Marley & Me" and I bawled my eyes out... OMGF, that movie really is a tearjerker. The entire theater was full of sniffles and tissues and red eyes...
Then on to the Chinese Buffet. Usually it's great, but last night the sushi chef was MEAN. No special orders, and most of the trays were empty. I asked if he was at least going to refill them and he said "LATER!!!" in a mean voice. Apparently, he yelled at a few too many people, cuz myself and a few others got the manager and he got in trouble. I'd feel bad for him but he deserved it! AND our table got a huge platter of assorted sushi brought out by the manager. Unfortunately, I'd already gotten my money's worth in regular Chinese food . And all that after a day of complete inactivity and couch-potato-ness. I feel FAT today!!!!! Blargh...
But then... a workout!!!!!!!!!!!!! (this morning)
20 min tmil at incline to warmup, some other mobility (just a little)...
Booooo on the mean sushi chef! Yaayyyyyy for the free platter of fishies! I am definitely feeling some holiday bloat...even tho I worked out every day I could this week so far. Can't wait to see it go away in a few days...hope yours does too!
Sounds like your weight is just fluctuating from all the goodies that just wont go away. Lately, that's been the story of my life!

Thanks FOS and Kristen... I finally finished yesterday on-track for food with minimal goodies (and logged the candy cane that I ate ). What I honestly think is that my weight is at maintenance right now, cuz I've been eating around maintenance! I went up about 3-ish pounds from my deficit weight, which is what Leigh says will happen once you eat at maintenance... SO... I expect it to start going back down again, although New Years's Eve is tough cuz we're going to two parties with TONS of food. I'll at least try to be better for the few days left before it, and then back on track for the new challenge!
Weight today 142.5. GREAT kickboxing class this morning - much more of a bootcamp than kickbox, but taught by my friend and he's teh AWSYM!!!! We did sprints, abs, some kick/punch on the bag, pullups, small weight stuff (high reps), BSS's with chairs, step ups, etc etc... Drenched, tired, but in a GOOD way, not in a "I got beaten to death by the boot camp dude" way. Saw the other boot camp dude while in class, he waved... hmmmmm... whatever! NOT going back to his class!
Gonna go take advantage of our freak heat wave (60!!!) and go outside for a while!
