Thanks Pauline - I'm a little nervous, partly because if they offer the job, I don't want to take it just because it exists if it's not a good fit... I tend to be so flattered when someone actually wants to hire me that I make stoopid career moves just because it feels good at the time... ugh.

Thanks Ginger! It wasn't so great a day in the end - I fell into that bag of mixed nuts last night... OMG I was STARVING, especially after DS's 7th grade band concert (CALGON!!!!!). I tried to eat slowly, but I ate... at least it was healthy fat?

The miracle is that the scale is responding, even with the nut "incident" - down 1# to 142 today (I ALMOST called it 141.5, but repeated steps on the scale call it 142). It's still higher than I started the break at, but... weird! I'm ALMOST thinking of trying 1500 instead of 1400 and maybe I won't suffer quite as badly? I'm a wuss, can't stand being hungry...

I'm off to the gym... then the INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!

LOL Tina! My interview is late today, and I doubt I'll find out on the spot - I'll keep updating though... thanks!

Bytsi... I ALWAYS make it a policy to not give an answer on a job offer for 24 or more hours. Employers always respect that and it gives you better negotiating power as well because it makes you seem less desperate.

Good luck to you all the same! Job interviews are very exciting.

So, keep reminding yourself of this. I'm a little like you, although, my last offer I had two, and still picked the wrong one.

I think this is a pretty good suggestion. I actually do this, but usually I say yes. I'm so easy when it comes to jobs.

Thanks Karla. I will try to restrain myself, but it's hard .

LOL, you and me both Anne. I don't pick the right job (or else, sometimes, I think things just don't go in the direction we'd planned or hoped). I'm easy too, when it comes to jobs. Who else takes a "voluntary" "temporary" (which became permanent ) pay cut!?!?!? Me! Duh.

Thanks Tracey & Julie!

So... I'm back. I have SO many logs to catch up on, but I have a long overdue haircut so just quick check-in for now... and yes I had an AWFUL hair day for the interview cuz I REALLY need this haircut!!!

I left really early, planning to hang out closer to the hospital campus instead of trying to figure out the timing... went to Sbux with a book, read... and then my stomach got upset and I started feeling badly. I don't think it was nerves, but luckily I was still quite early and had time for it to... uh... pass... (sigh).

Got there, found it with no problem. The woman who would be my potential boss seemed nice - a bit rushed at the beginning, and I was wondering from the way she dove right in if this would be a 10 minute interview. But in the end it was nearly an hour... I liked her, and the job sounds a LOT better than I had thought from reading the ad. Very challenging, exciting, lots of room to advance in the future. They are a world-class place and expect their staff to be a step above too - up to date on all the latest research, able to treat doctors and corporate professionals and athletes, able to impress the elite who come there for treatment. Pretty cool!

I didn't find out salary info, and she said that because of the holidays, they won't decide on a candidate for 30 days (bleh) - but she said I can check in with her. There might be a 2nd interview with her boss, but he hasn't decided if he's going to do interviews so it's not a good or bad sign if I don't get that call...

XXXXXXXXXXX fingers!!!!!!

And... a workout!
Did some fun drills (a la Ginger's log ) -- did med-ball throw and chase, med-ball throw-downs, suicides, bear crawls, squat/thrust with med ball, burpees, and some jump-kicks on the bags (40, 30, 20, 10). Then 20 min SS interval walk on the tmill...

Done!

Ok - haircut time - will be back on later - thanks for all the good luck wishes - keep 'em coming for about 30 more days on this job, I guess...

Bytsi--

Good to hear the interview went well--bummer about having to wait 30 days for the decision. I guess that will give you a chance to casually look elsewhere for back up opportunities. And maybe something closer? Anyway, more luck!

Glad the interview went well.

Love the workout you did! Those are just good to do, you know? I can't believe how much I miss doing those type of workouts like we were 3 mornings a week with the challenge. I am so thankful that the 2 girls I am working out with on Thursday evenings love these too. I at least get in one good circuit style workout in a week.

How was the haircut?

Thanks Kathy! I have been looking, but this is the first (well, second) one that generated an interview... (obviously didn't get the other one, but I actually would have turned it down - BAD fit, and we both knew it). I actually won't mind a little time off, but I don't want it to turn into a year, ya know?

Workout was fun - I did it with my friend... we didn't really time ourselves or the rests, but it was all good. I definitely want to do it more often...

Haircut was good, I hope. She flat-ironed it to death because it makes it easier for her to do a razor cut, but until I style it myself it's hard to be 100% sure...

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that the job (if it comes through) is four days/week, 10 hour shifts. So throw in 30 more minutes for lunch and the almost-1-hour commute each way and... wow. LONG days. I'd have to get up at 5 or 5:30, leave home by 6 to get there by 7, work til 5:30, home around 6:30, eat QUICKLY on M/W to get to karate by 7 (!!!!)... I'd have Tuesdays off (meh) so I guess weights would be Sat/Tues and I'd still have the activity/cardio of karate M/W after work and regular cardio on Sundays... MAYBE something on Thurs or Fri but I don't know... hmmmm... How do people with long hours fit in their workouts? I don't really see getting up at 4am to exercise...

(and yes, this is putting the cart WAY before the horse, as I have no idea if I'll even get offered the job!)

Yay for the good interview. Hope everything works out for you. I'm with you...I would not get up that early to exercise. If I don't sleep well and get less than 7 hours of sleep, I'm very, very cranky.

Yay for the good interview. I do a lot of 'what ifs' when in the beginning of the process as well. The best job I ever had was posted in late October and I got the job offer in the 10th of January. It was extremely nerve wracking. I originally assumed that they'd offered it to someone else first, but that turned out to be incorrect. They were just so busy that the job search always ended up on the bottom of the pile. Silly really, because they were looking to hire help, right?

Anyway, hope you don't end up hanging for 30 days, but at least she told you that.

So... in the category of adding insult to injury or just plain lacking class or any sense of loyalty or... after I stayed on here beyond 2 weeks notice because we were SO low on staff (not even a skeleton crew) and we repeatedly said 12/31 would be my last day, I went in to my STBX boss's office to try to pin down a time to go over all the stuff I'll leave behind... and...

Next week's schedule is printed, sitting on her desk, and I'm not on it. At all. Deleted.

I'm fine with it as far as $ and all that, I'm SO totally ready to be out of here - but the WAY it was done was completely without class. One day's notice to me (tomorrow is my last day) after I was polite/nice/loyal enough to NOT leave with only a moment's notice. Oh - and I still have to come in on 12/24 and 12/31 for prior scheduled appointments, but other than that... don't let the door hit me in the ass on the way out.

I should've NEVER offered to stay and help out in the first place. Sheesh!!!

Thanks - me too, I need 7, preferably 8 (which ends up at 7 anyway cuz of H waking me up with his snoring)... I am a complete and total wreck and crab if I'm tired - I could never do Survivor and be hungry and tired - yikes

My first job right out of grad school took nearly 6 months. I got the interview after nearly 2 months of waiting, then they put in a hiring freeze and we had to sit on the (potential) offer for a while before it finally went through. Hospital systems are notorious for this hurry up and wait stuff... and I've been at hospitals for almost all my jobs. It is ironic - the job stuff gets put off because they're so busy without enough staff, but they can't get around to hiring more staff!

I think the interview was good, but I have no idea how many or how qualified my competition is... I don't know if I'd like 10 hour days (plus an hour on each end to commute) either - I guess it's up to them first, then I have to decide if I want it. I have time to mull it over, at least...

I won't get up at 4 to work out. More likely is I'll do it in the evening if there's no way to squeeze it in at lunch time. AND I'll be looking for / focusing on low volume and time-efficient stuff, and just try to get plenty of NEAT in my life otherwise... At least it's not leaving home at 6am, returning at 6:30pm, 5 or more days a week, right? Tuesdays off and weekends off will be nice...

I feel silly thinking it all out though, since I don't have an offer!!!

Today: no workout yet, but planning on karate (shoulder permitting). Weight 142 - I was hoping for more whoosh, but... I've had to fight for every pound, so why should this be different? Food compliance is improving after the tough transition back onto deficit (not perfect, but I didn't fall deeply into the mixed nuts last night)

That is truly dicky. Wow.

However, I'll bet you're not actually surprised… usually that isn't the first sign your employer lacks class.

10 hour days aren't that bad, all things considered. It's only 2 more hours, and then a whole extra day off. How much do ya really do in that 2 hours in the morning/evening anyway, versus how much extra you could do/fun you could have on a 3 day weekend, one of which is actually during banking hours?

Why bother? I am not one for being spiteful or petty, but I think if I were you I wouldn't feel any sense of responsibility and those are both busy/family days. I wouldn't go. Sorry about the way you're being treated though. I really would be upset.

Dicky... yes, that is a good word. And you're right - I'm not surprised, just pissed. She lowered herself to the level I had hoped she was (slightly) above... On my way out, she called to make sure I turn in my keys .

I wish the 10-hour days came with a 3-day weekend, but it'd be Tuesday - so I'd work Mon, off Tues, then work W, Th, F. Kinda weird, but... whatever. I think everyone there (4 total) has one day off, so they have to spread 'em out.

The ONLY reason is that I was actually lent to another department for those appointments (I was going to another location for a few hours, 2 days/week) and they're pre-paid for by the patients and no one else can do 'em, so... it would be me screwing over people who didn't do me wrong - and could MAYBE be a good connection in the distant future...? Meh.

Wow Bytsi! Craziness going on over here. I hear ya on 10 hour days. I do 9 hour days plus the 30 min lunch and hour commute each way... hence why I'm been b*tching in my log for so long about serious lack-age of motivation when i get home at night! (And also why I haven't been to the gym since Thanksgiving...) I'm going tonight though... I hope! Anyway, if it's what you want then I hope it works out, if not... I'll hope something better comes along!

Sounds like you'll be really glad to leave. And while they don't have class.. you certainly DO!

On the potential new job and working out.. why not do it there? It's going to be a gym as well, isn't it? It may not be one continuous workout but you could do like 1 superset, work.. another superset.. work etc. and get the workout done with hours of rest period in between.

Definitely lacks class. Someone probably figured out that they would have to pay you for stat holidays if they kept you until the end of the year. However, even if that was the case, she owed you an explanation, not to have you find out that way. Sorry.

I'll hope something better comes along!
It's stuff like that that scares me - what if I take the job and it's great BUT the hours / commute kill me? I really do need to wait to even see if I get it - I'm gonna feel pretty damn stupid if I go through all this "what if" and don't get an offer

Thanks Espi - I is a classy broad

This job wouldn't be in a real usable gym... there was some equipment, but it's more about evaluations and some PT's do rehab there. I'd have to look around more, or maybe there is a nice gym on campus somewhere... definitely NOT the kind of thing, from what I gather, where one could just casually fit in sets between other things...

Actually, I wouldn't get paid for the holidays either way (crappy job, really!)... it was just a bitchy move on the boss's part, IMHO. We (they) won't be low on staff next week because our part-timers can cover some of the hours without going over since it's closed on Xmas. And the one on maternity leave will be back the Monday after Xmas, and we'll have an intern starting this Monday, etc etc... so the "loyalty" is that as soon as they can cover things, I'm tossed out. Meh. So much for us BOTH agreeing that I'd stay til the 31st .

Karate tonight... not sweaty, but moved around. Shoulder kinda sore, but... bleh. I have PT tomorrow for it...

Thanks... I'm at work and in a particularly lousy mood. Some people I will miss, and I do NOT want to get emotional. Some people I will NOT miss at all and I do not want to get emotional . I'm just cleaning up loose ends... wondering why the hell I ever agreed to come in at 8am on Xmas eve and NY eve, but I'll do it.

Weight 142 again, but at least the rest of the mixed nuts are gone . I guess I'm a little bit of a stress eater .

No workout today, but at least I'll have plenty of time in the near (and who knows how long) future to get that in...

Bah Humbug!!!

Well given the way you've been treated, not going in on those days wouldn't be surprising.
