Bytsi, sorry for not coming in sooner.. but really for that huge change only 13 pounds?? You look absolutely marvelous and I think Karla (?) got it right for saying you had the best recomp per unit of wt loss!
Good to see you reading the intuitive eating. I'm not entirely doing it but am applying certain principles, and try to not ignore cues anymore.

Thanks Espi... I'm leaning toward adapting the principles that work for me without necessarily going whole-hog (pun intended) on eating whatever, whenever... kinda like Wendy was discussing in her log (I think it was her log) - some of us spent a lot of time trying to be "normal" people who can eat whatever, whenever - and for many people, that just doesn't work. It never has for me, and while I'd like to relax and listen to my gut more, I don't think I can be completely without thought or planning... Then again - most athletes plan how to fuel their bodies, and I'd at least like to think of it in that manner.
Weight 140 today, which is ok considering that I haven't been 100% strict this week. I think I did a little glycogen refilling this week with the added "extra" carbs, and then stabilized again...
Diet break will start either tonight or tomorrow night, depending on how the food looks at H's work party thing. Not gonna waste my break on crap food
No workout today. Had to work this morning - we auctioned off six of our fitness staff (train the trainer) and raised just under $500 for the local cancer center. Yay!!! It was my idea / program, so I'm pretty excited that it turned out well, especially as a first-time program on a snowy day (they're gonna miss me when I'm gone )
I'm officially on break. Not going to track for a week, but not going to go all nuts and eat everything in sight either. Going to eat what I want, make healthy choices but also indulge some urges... Learn to listen to my body. I haven't finished "Intuitive Eating" yet, but I'm still going to put some of what I've read into it.
Of course I also already went back up to 141, but it's ok. I need this break more than I need the scale numbers.
Last night was H's party. I ate. Dinner was ok - the salad was WONDERFUL with all kinds of mixed lettuces, pears, walnuts... then there was chicken in gravy (eh, I tried to scrape some of it off), one thins slice of roast beef, a bunch of green beans and one tiny dinner roll (the kind you break apart, I think they're about 30 kcals each?). Then I ate dessert. Shared a small slice of caramel/chocolate-topped cheesecake with H, ate part of a slice of apple pie (left most of the crust) and shared two cookies with H too (they were SOOOO good - chocolate chip stuffed with a brownie-type filling and chocolate stuffed with coconut). It sounds like a lot (ok, it was) BUT I didn't finish any one dessert - I shared 'em all, and then we danced (not as much as I wanted, cuz H is a grumpy old man ). Oh - no alcohol calories - just club soda.
Going to do cardio this morning - I'm in the mood for some plyos / HIT, I think... we'll see if there's any room at the gym to do that on a weekend morning...
Bytsi, sounds like you had a great time. Enjoy your break.
I wanted to say again that I thought you did really well on the challenge, too. You not only lost fat, but you maintained LBM, too, and did a VERY NICE JOB !
Bytsi, good luck on your break! I think it's a wise decision. Good job on the eating last night also. That's actually my "goal" type of eating. Choosing a special occasion, eating and not being deprived, but not overdoing it either. Hooray you!
Had SUCH a good strong cardio this morning. I wanted to do plyos, but it's the holiday kid's festival at our gym, so the track and courts were all closed and full of holiday stuff. Bleh. Treadmill instead... I was mad for a few minutes (kinda felt like Kristen did when someone took her rower!) but then I decided to suck it up and do something tough anyway.
Did 1 min walk / 1 min run, but instead of keeping the same speed for each, I kept increasing with each run. Started walk 3.7, run 5.2, then 5.4, 5.6, etc, up to 7 mph. That took 20 minutes. Then I did 30 second HIIT sprints during the next 10 minutes, so sprinted 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9 (I'd fall off at 9.5, I think!) - with 3.7 mph walks in between for 1.5-2 min. Then walked 20 more min at 3.2 with a 6 incline. Felt GREAT, strong, sweaty...
Got home, and was noticing my left shoulder hurting. By the time I was showered, it was getting worse. I can use it for most things, but there's pretty bad point tenderness right on the acromium, and it hurts pretty badly when I let the arm just relax and hang. Oh - and do NOT pull off a jacket with the arm extended - major pain. I either hurt my pec minor (???) or more likely I somehow separated it - maybe doing the sprints and pumping my arms?????
I'm so mad, cuz I felt SO strong and I was going to lift tomorrow. MAYBE somehow I'll wake up and feel fine... it could happen... Otherwise, I'll call the sports med doc that my H and I know and hopefully he can see me tomorrow and tell me WTF I actually did to it.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Yeah, I'm not so great at slowing down and enjoying my food - that's been one of my goals for quite a while - to slow down. I do hope I get to the part where smaller quantitites suffice - I'm not really there yet, but having read part of Intuitive Eating, I know that the urge to over-eat is common after lots of restriction, but will fade...

Thank you Karen. You did so well too, on the challenge!

Thanks Celeste - I don't know how "special" it was, more than just "hey that cake looks GOOD"... I plan to let myself eat dessert this week, every day if I WANT it - not just because it exists, but because I need to not feel restricted. I do actually crave healthy food too - I am dying for a nice salad tonight at dinner, but then if I am hungry for dessert, I'll have it too.
And I had half a pbj for breakfast - it was SOOOO good!
Bummer, Bytsi, about the shoulder. You're right, that workout was amazing. But to hurt yourself like that not even lifting or doing anything odd is just crazy! I hope it feels better tomorrow.

It's better, but not good or ok. Not as painful as yesterday... the point tenderness on the acromium is worse though, and there's a weird knot/lumpy thing there too. I called the sports-med doc and he can squeeze me in at 2, so I'm going even though I'm not in as much pain today. I want to know WTF I did and how to not do it again!!!
Scale 141, and that's after 2 days of eating whatever... I'm just mad cuz I won't get to lift today .
ouch, bytsi, hope your shoulder feels better! good luck with the diet break - sounds like you need it. and here's to a new kick-ass job in the near future!
Sorry to hear about your injury! That treadmill workout you did was killer. I only seem to hurt myself doing stupid things - like on Saturday I was brushing my teeth of all things and twisted around and hurt my lower back. Stupid. I was mad because I was getting ready to go to the gym! Luckily some advil took care of it and I was able to lift. But the thing that made me the most angry was the prospect of not being able to lift, so I know how you feel.
Way to go with the workout and not letting them stop your forward momentum even tho they were using your spot to do your pylos!!!
I really hope the doc can shed some light on the elbow...prob just something silly you did! Either way, I hope the pain continues to subside and you can get back to your workout out without any...
Also...congrats on the break...I think it's needed and well deserved!
Hey Bytsi, just popping in to say Hello!! Glad your break week is going well so far on the food front. Sorry to hear about your shoulder . Good luck at the doctor.
Hey Bytsi... just checking in with you... sorry to hear about your shoulder! I'm with Bree in that I hurt myself doing stupid things LOL...I managed to pull a rib off of my sternum about a month ago using the foam roller on my lats. It took more than 2 weeks to feel better, but luckily it didn't keep me from doing a lot of the stuff in my program.
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Getting caught up. I agree with the others on your break. I'd go on a break, too, but first I'd have to go off the one I've been on since August, he he. I am sorry to hear about your shoulder. I wonder what the heck you did...sounds painful! And I'm pretty sure I'd fall off the treamdill at 9mph! 8 anything scares me.

Take care of yourself!
Thanks Bree. Hope your back is better - definitely sounds like something I would do!

OW - that sounds PAINFUL!!! Who thought foam rollers would CAUSE injuries!!?

Thanks Kathy. I'm pretty sure you could do 9 mph if you did it like I do - just for 25-30 seconds, then grab the rails and dismount onto the side while it slows back down (but no, that's not how I hurt my shoulder)...
So - back from the doc. He has NO idea how I did it, but I've managed to screw up my rotator cuff. The supraspinatus and infraspinatus are both terribly inflamed and painful . I'm not allowed to do any karate or upper-body training for 3-ish (???) weeks, I start physical therapy on Thursday (soonest they could fit me in), and if it's still bad in a few days he'll do a cortisone injection into the joint .
I can do lower body, but only if someone else lifts the plates for me -- although how I could use weight is beyond me, since I can't rest a bar on my shoulders (too close to where it's most painful) and I can't hold a weight in my hands... So I think it's cardio and bodyweight for me for at least a little while. BOOOOO HISSSSSSS YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
But thanks for all the good wishes... I'm going to TRY to behave and heal it quickly the first time without making it worse... sigh...
Oh Bytsi! I'm so sorry to hear it's bad. Do behave and heal properly. I know it's easier said than done.
I know that it's been mentioned in here a while back, and that you've pondered it, but have you considered doing REPAIR while you're out? It might be the opportune time...Plus, it would force you to behave!

Ya' know, the thought did cross my mind... I'll have to consider it. Although I'm kinda enjoying my food break here . I can still do cardio and bodyweight legs, and I hope to not be off for too long... so we'll see... it's one option .
Oh crap on the shoulder injury thing.... Looks like lots of shoulder rotations are in your future and scaptions. This is a good reminder for me to do these as well. I try to do shoulder work at least once every couple o' weeks. Too many ways that we overuse it in lifting otherwise.

So sorry about the shoulder. Hope it heals quickly. Very good job on getting it checked out right away though. It's too easy to wait too long.
I know how frustrating it can be as I'm still healing from my hatchet job on my finger. Be careful even with some of the bodyweight and cardio stuff too. I was kind of surprised how much a local upper body injury could affect total balance. You also may find your shoulder ends up being sore from too much indirect activity also due to the splinting and muscle tension from being in pain.
Sorry to hear about the shoulder! I know it's going to be hard for you not to any lifting for 3 weeks. I like the idea of doing REPAIR though. Sometimes our bodies finally rebel and say ENOUGH! Give me a break! At least after the 3 weeks you will be well rested and ready to go again.
UGH!! That stinks....but I guess it would force you to maybe do repair...may not be a bad idea after all? I hope it heals quickly...and in the meantime, don't sweat it. A little break won't be so bad.
