Congratulations, Bytsi! Not that we had any doubt :-). As for the CR, I understand you feeling bad for him, but it sounds like he truly deserved it. He doesn't sound very disciplined or 'in control' and isn't that a big part of martial arts? Maybe he'll clean up his act.
I finally found time to catch up (read back a bit) and I'm sorry to hear about work. I did that once, gave notice and then stayed on for about 8 weeks afterwards. In my case I just couldn't take the drive, it had only a small part to do with the job. With few exceptions I've always ended up in a better place when moving on. Yes, even this time, with me back at school.
So, I'll wish you the best of luck in finding something new.

Control IS a big part of it. Unfortunately, I really don't know if he's capable of it. He's failed tests before, is corrected on his control probably at least once every single class... He's decked everyone. I dunno. I wonder if there is ever a point where they have to pull him aside and say "you can't go any farther in this school" or... ?

Thanks Anne... yeah, it's kinda weird being here. Today would be my last day if I'd stuck to 2 weeks notice, but... I dunno. It's weird.
I have to figure out what to do about posting for the challenge. My weight is up - I think I'm at or even 1/2# above last month (140.5 this morning ). WTF?!? . I know I've been stressed, but I don't think I'm eating that badly! Then again, my burn rate sucks. I did 30 min stairmaster (which doesn't always register well on the armband) AND walked 30 min yesterday (and then plopped on the couch with zycam cuz I'm fighting a cold) and didn't even hit 2000 kcals for the day. Hmmmmm. Hmph!
So - I have to decide, so I post before or after Thanksgiving. Do I give myself a couple days to maybe possibly whoosh, or will turkey day and fighting a cold just make everything worse?
I posted in the nutrition section about Daily Plate issues. I guess I need to second-guess a lot of what I thought I was eating this last month (and weighing and measuring so carefully) because it's REALLY screwed up with recipes. I'm going to have to enter each ingredient separately in my log instead of relying on recipe totals . Anyone else notice or have this happen to them on TDP? It is possible I overate just because I didn't notice that TDP was f---ed up on calculating recipe total cals and macros.
I am supposed to lift and go to karate today, but I'm still fighting a cold (note: do NOT buy the chewable Zicam - that stuff tastes like shit and costs too much to waste it). My neck is also not 100% (slept weird?)... So I'm gonna see how I feel after work and decide then.
I don't know about anyone else, but when I was fighting my cold and then got it completely (the zicam didn't work so good for me), I retained a lot of water. As soon as I stopped taking meds, it went back down.
I hope you feel better soon!
Just chill about the challenge and post whenever you have time to take the pics and get it up there. It is just a stoopid challenge and we are talking about a lb or 2 for cripes sake! It isn't like you haven't been working out or grossly overeating. Besides you are doing some amazing body recomping. I am excited to see where you have come!

Ok - you've given me a beacon of hope here. MAYBE I'm retaining from my cold?????

Thanks Karla... I wanted to do better this month, but it didn't happen. Actually, I might've been eating more than I thought - more on that in a moment... I don't know that this month will show any progress, but... whatever... it's a journey, right?

(sorry for the hijack, Bytsi)
S'ok Jane - I don't think Karla meant to put down the challenge (putting words in Karla's mouth here) - I think she just meant for me to not obsess and relax about it... not that I EVER obsess over stuff
No workout today with weights, but still probably going to karate later... I just don't feel good enough and my neck is ouchy from sleeping wrong (so we'll probably do falls in karate, with my luck)... I did go walk around for about an hour to get some light NEAT in...
Ok - my theory on my lousy losses (as in - no loss yet) this month. I DID briefly bounce down to 139, and I am currently sick (or trying to be sick) so possibly water retention issues and maybe less NEAT if I'm feeling lousy could explain it...
BUT - I posted in the nutrition thread - I have realized that Daily Plate is just plain F*CKED UP when it comes to recipe entry. It's great for daily entry and tracking, but putting my ingredients in and then getting total cals and macros - YIKES! It's SOOOO far off on some of 'em, and I played around a lot and...
So - it's VERY possible that I've over-eaten significantly doing the OBM recipes (a la Leigh) cuz it took me til now to realize how badly Daily Plate was miscalculating. Crap. So things that I thought were 1000 or 1200 cals might've been in the teens or close to 2000 cals. NOT GOOD. Damn it. I guess I can write this off as an unintentional semi-maintenance month and now I know how to log better. I'm doing each ingredient seperately (so it comes out right) and I made an Excel sheet today for my recipes so I can see what they REALLY add up to.
bytsi, I am just so so so so happy for you!!! congrats on passing your test. I loved the video. very inspiring to see such a strong fit woman move like that and outmaneuver men. and I have to specifically compliment you on your bench. as someone who is working really hard right now to increase her bench, I am acutely aware of just how impressive those weights are. wow, girl. no wonder your sensei says you try to use your strength like a man would. you've got amazing strength!!
I am a gold member of TDP, and also might be a victim of recipe calorie overload. damn them!! you've got me checking some of my entries, cuz I obviously need to get back to tracking....I plan on posting my pics anyway. I have made changes since august, and I am a work in progress. so post those pics, you kickbutt strongass woman! and join us again in january for challenge round 3!!
That's annoying about the recipe calorie tracking!!! It's one of the reasons I like myfooddiary...I can input each individual item that I have, and then choose them for the recipe when I add it all up. It's kind of a lot of work, but worth it in the end.
At least now you know...and perhaps with the cold in check, and the calories figured out you have another way to go now!
So - I have to decide, so I post before or after Thanksgiving. Do I give myself a couple days to maybe possibly whoosh, or will turkey day and fighting a cold just make everything worse?
I hear you on this one... I decided to post so I don't have to stress too much over Thanksgiving. Now I just need to stay on track in December with no challenge!
Hey Bytsi, I've taken an unexpected hiatus from this place the past week or so, so I'm only reading about your test-passing now.... so a very belated congrats!!! And I'm sorry about your Daily Plate problems. I tried them for a while but I was so used to fitday by that point. If it helps... I used sparkpeople to figure out recipes and then just put that into fitday... not exactly ideal, but it worked when I was tracking. Just my 2 cents Have a great turkey day!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone - I am thankful for all the amazing people I've met here
I am not thankful for having a cold, not sleeping well, being bloated and weighing even more this morning. I can't believe how big my stomach looks - seriously, it's SO big and bloaty, it's ridiculous! I know a whoosh has to come, or people are gonna start asking me when the baby is due .
I am thankful that my gym decided to open this year from 7-10, so I did an hour of cardio. 30 min walk/jog 1-minute intervals, HR 75-80%. Then 30 min incline walk (6 incline, 3.1 speed), HR around 70%.
Neck still not right, hoping I can lift tomorrow. I hate to have to start going back to the chiro frequently, but I might have to...
Sitting here watching H and kids yell at each other over a Monopoly game... I was in the shower when they started, so I don't have to get yelled at .
Heading to my parents in an hour or so (?) for the feast. I know I won't be on plan today, but I'm going to try not to go crazy. I wore jeans that are kinda tight to help remind me to stop eating, and I'm not eating a lot this morning. Maybe with my head so stuffed the food won't taste so good? I doubt it, but I can hope...

Thanks Wendy. I am stronger, and I've made strength improvements. Which make me second-guess if I'm doing this right - because I must not be focusing enough on strictly fat loss if I'm getting stronger .
As for Daily Plate, I've figured out how to use it now so that the numbers will be right - I'm just mad that it took me a month to fully realize it, and that it might've sabotaged me even worse than I already manage to sabotage myself!
I'm definitely planning to be in on the January challenge. I actually wish this one wasn't over til December (I was in the minority on that vote).

Thanks Kristen - back at ya on the turkey day wishes. I like Daily Plate (or I'm used to it and have all my foods in it) - I just have to use it differently and not bother inputting recipes.

I won't post today because I'm SOOOO bloated. I seriously cannot describe adequately how big my stomach looks. Maybe it's the cold and my fluid retention being all screwy...? I do NOT feel good

Thanks Kara. I think we all use the program we get most used to - I won't quit TDP (partly cuz I paid for the gold version) because I'm used to it and all that... I just wish their recipe feature (which I think they're redoing anyway) worked right.
Happy T day, Bytsi... just to put your fears to rest, I've been steadily losing fat while getting stronger since February--and it ain't newbie gains for this old lady. It's very do-able.
Just do NOT unbutton your pants today... take it from someone who knows.
Bytsi, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy the food! I think my strategy today will be to only put foods I really love on my plate and only in small quantities because I can always go back for more if I have to. Maybe I won't want to. Yeah, right. Anyway, lets just enjoy the day.
Back to 140 today... which is where I was a month ago . Maybe I'll drop a bit more in the next day or 2 as this cold hopefully moves on (I'm so freakin' sniffly and congested - bleh).
Thanksgiving went ok foodwise. Not stuffed, not bloated... I'm sure I ate more than my usual amount, but overall I'm pleased. I had a lot of turkey breast (at least 8, maybe 10-12 ounces?). Also some shrimp cocktail. Had 1/2 a corn biscuit, 1 mini crescent roll, one small serving of pumpernickel apricot stuffing, 2 small servings of sweet potato casserole (but we put less butter in it than the recipe calls for). No veggies except some carrot sticks and celery sticks, cuz the cooked ones had a NASTY sauce on 'em. No mashed potatoes. One not-huge slice of pumpkin pie, left the crunchy back part of the crust. One ounce of drambuie.
Could've been a LOT worse. Wore tight-ish pants, left 'em buttoned . Walked somewhat briskly for about 40 minutes around my parents neighborhood between the dinner and dessert.
Heading out to lift this morning, although my neck is still a bit screwy. Snorted some Afrin last night and slept better, at least.

LOL Tina - I didn't unbutton 'em - thanks! I do know I've lost fat - it's just slow... and I give too much weight (pun semi-intended) to the numbers on the scale. I need to dig out my original logs from NROLW and see what my deads and benches were...

Thanks Kathy. How did you end up doing? Hope you (and everyone) enjoyed the day

Oh wait Bytsi I take it back... Do go ahead and freak out and be miserable about the challenge pictures for the next few days. You had better take the time out and take some every day so that you can chose the best ones! In fact go ahead and make it the most important thing you have to worry about this weekend. We cannot offend anyone here...

LOL! Okay seriously now... Thanks Bytsi for putting words in my mouth. Obviously that is exactly what I meant. I am in the challenge too so why would I mean otherwise??? We (all of us) far too often put way too much weight on the results part of the equation here. The scale and the challenge are very results oriented and can serve to punish us if we let them. If we are focused and working hard (as the little hamster obviously is), then we all deserve a bit of a "chill" with respect to our results. I put on some noticable fat this go around myself. It's all good... This is a journey and the challenge is just one point in that journey not the destination.
Congrats to you and all the challenge girls btw. We all rock for sticking to our goals of continuous improvment.

Well, I didn't feel like I was doing that badly as I put food on my plate, but I still ended up feeling stuffed! I didn't have any mashed potatoes, but I did eat two rolls and I didn't eat my mother's fruit salad (the kind made with fruit cocktail and cool whip). She called me this morning and asked me if I'd had any because there was a ton left and she seemed disappointed because she'd doubled the recipe. I didn't have the heart to tell her I had stopped eating it years ago.
We did spend time before dinner playing frisbee golf in the front yard so at least it wasn't a day of complete inactivity.
Hey there! Sounds like you had a good Thanksgiving and I am glad for that. Good on you for figuring out the problem with the food tracking. Think of it as finding a glitch, you know?
I am very thankful for this place, too.

Workout this morning sucked - I think (hope) it was because I feel like crap from this stupid cold?!?!? I started (after warmup) with chins and only got 3 - WTF!?!? So I decided I'm not feeling strong today and no point doing 4x4's... Just screwed around with push/pull exercises at higher rep/lower weight... Posted below...
Then went to the mall - NOT crowded much at all! A few lines, but not anything like we expected - maybe it was cuz we didn't get there til 1 or 2? I got some CUTE sweaters at Lerner NY - they were marked buy 1 get 1 75% off AND I had a 30% off coupon too . AND I took a medium, which is great considering my big chest used to always bump me to large or even XL (I hate when clothes cling to "the girls").
Front / lateral raises - 1x10, 1x8 (alternating directions, so really 20, 16) w/ 12.5# db's (e)
Food not perfect today (had some leftovers for brunch so not 100% accurate on logging cals, etc), but not bad either.

Frisbee golf - fun! Don't worry too much about the food - it sounds like you did ok... sorry your mom was offended about her fruit salad, but - yuck! Sounds kinda gross to me (then again, I never liked that marshmallow fruit jello stuff either).

Hey Ginger - posted in your log too, but YAY on your awesome race!
Bytsi,
Boy, missed a ton in your log! CONGRATS on passing the test, first of all! I haven't been on here much this week and I totally missed that. I wish your Sensei would have let the judges give you the spirit award also. Doesn't make sense to me either...
Anyway, sounds like you did pretty well on thanksgiving, considering, and I did the same thing (thought I was eating in moderation but ending up full).
So I hope the Daily Plate glitch was the issue with your weight woes, but no matter, keep remembering that the true measure isn't the number on the scale. You keep making HUGE improvements in pictures, but not necessarily losing as much as you'd like. So I'm sure your pics will tell "the rest of the story..."

Hey Celeste - thanks for checking in - glad you did well at Thanksgiving too...
Did pics this morning, although I look bloated still (you can see it a lot in my stomach ). I'm still sick, and we had dessert last night (duh - the night before pics!), so... bleh.
Up 1/2# from the dessert and bloating, but I'm calling it at 139 for the challenge, as I was there yesterday.
Measurements: NO ONE left at work to take 'em (everyone quit or is on maternity leave) and DH's measurements that we tried this morning are SO all over the place... so I hate to do it, but for the next challenge in January I'll measure myself. This time, it's kinda random so I'm only entering weight and pics. Sigh...
I HONESTLY feel like last month's pics (on page 53 of my log) looked a lot better... but here it is.
Challenge weight went from 146 to 139. Weight at first pic was 152.
I'll get these posted without the blue swimsuit in the final challenge thread... wish I could just post last month's pics, but hey - at least I stuck with it, right?
Bytsi, congratulations on passing! I think your pics this month look fine. They are a clear change from August and you can still see the definition in back and shoulders that was there last month. I'm sorry the scale is still messing with you .

x2, Bytsi! You can clearly see your shoulder definition and your back looks fantastic and your thighs are noticeably smoother. Your stomach area is smaller as well. If you're like me, the stomach is the last to go. Overall, good job!
x3! I am still flabbergasted that there is only a 13# difference between that first picture and this last one! You really have shown marked improvement during this challenge. Great great great job!

x4! Even though the scale hasn't been your friend, you look a lot better... you have lost a lot of fat over the challenge and since the first pic... so I would defiently say a pic (or two or three) says a thousand words.
