So... "celebrated" last night. I was SOOOOO tired and sore - collapsed mostly. Took DS to dinner (too tired to cook) and we split a big chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream on top - it was GOOOOOD. Heck, ya gotta have a treat sometimes, right?
139.5 this morning, which is ok. I wanted to lose more this month, in general, but... I'll get there. I was less sore than I thought, so I worked out - lifted (since I skipped Friday). I think I'll lift Weds and Fri this week and then I'll be back on schedule... I'm going to finish the last 5 workouts of Power Training general, then do the 21-day-itch workout, then maybe come back to power training or... ??
Talked a little to Sensei this morning - he plays mind games... sigh... If I didn't pass, I think it was because of the breathing problems. I might not have had the intensity I could've had if I was getting oxygen, and the technique mistakes I made were also, I think, due to that. Like, they asked me for other examples beyond the "classroom model" of how to do an arm bar and I know at least 2 others but I went blank... sigh... I HATE that they don't give us results quickly!
Ok - mail call, then I'll post the workout from today...

It stinks that you felt like you couldn't breathe! I think you should get points for sucking it up and kicking butt anyway.
My hubby watched too...(he took karate a looooooong time ago) we both agreed you looked much more fluid than the CR did...
Also....remind me not to piss you off in person! You looked awesome, and also pretty dangerous...!!!!
LOL Kristen. It can be REALLY hard to say "I'm fine" when CR (or anyone) smacks you stupidly. But to do anything else in that setting reflects badly on you - it's all about self control and not taking things personally. He kicked another guy SO hard... sigh... I've watched the video a couple times and I still don't see WHY he had to whack my face so much .
Thanks for the compliment though... I always wonder (and hope to NEVER find out) what I would do if ever faced with a real-life need to defend myself. I hope I could / would do it, but... I hope I never need to know...

LOL about looking slim - the video ratio/aspect (whatever?) is all screwy so I'm a bit vertically stretched in it . White bulky outfit with elastic waist is not flattering. I am hardly anyone's hero (heroine?)... but I am proud of how far I've come.

LOL Jane, thanks! I don't even notice the yelling anymore, til someone points it out. We all scream and yell - there's actually specific points in techniques and in kata where we are supposed to kiyai (no idea how to spell it) loudly. It helps with breath control, power - and it's supposed to intimidate your opponent .

Thanks Pauline... those guys are pretty heavy. It's funny though - one of the biggest criticisms Sensei gets after me for is that I tend to try to use muscle instead of technique. He says I'm the only woman he's ever had to say that to - it's almost always guys who do that .

Thanks Chloe. If I figure out how I "take it" I'll let you know... mostly - it HURTS. I HATE landing, especially those ones where I go flat on my back. Or when CR drops me hard .
Ok... my workout. I was gonna go easy today, but I felt ok, so...
Bilateral Vertical Pull - Pullups and Chinups - Pullups 3 bw (my hands were SO tired, did these right after deadlifts - duh!), Chinups 5 bw, band assisted pullups 7, band assisted chinups 6
Nice job Bytsi!! You looked great to me ... I can totally relate on the asthma front. I was totally off all my inhalers until my sinus infection in October ... and I still wheeze if I get hit with cold air or dust. Bah.

So I'm a bit late to the party, but very cool video! I too know nothing about martial arts (though I'd like to learn at some point) so I thought it looked awesome! I'm sorry that CR is such an idiot. Looks like things are going pretty well in here otherwise for the most part!

Yeah, I figured as much...it wouldn't be good to show no self control! I do think it was some serious self control on that slap. But it would be fair to slap him back a little...lol
I think that's part of the boxing for me too...the whole real life scenario...it's knowing you're dangerous and nobody knows it that I will like when I get better! Not that I'll be challenged to any fist fights any time soon...lol!
So, I woke up, didn't feel awfully bloated for once, thought the scale might be great - and NO. 140. WTF?!? Stupid scale!!!
Must be I'm swole from the lifting, right?
ANYWAY... nervous as heck about tonight... I hope I passed... I am NOT good at waiting to hear!!!!

Thanks Julie! So... I renewed my inhaler scrip today and... oops! It has been a bit longer than I thought since I got a new one... DUH!!!! . I don't use it every day (only mostly for karate or cardio if I'm doing intervals), so... crap. My own stupid fault, basically.

Thanks Kara. I wish CR wasn't so crazy too... everyone does, for whatever that's worth. I wonder if they'll pass him?

Also, great workout there. That bench press is totes awesome and 180 for a deadlift is crazy strong.
Thanks Bree
I was pretty psyched to pull the 180, but I have to be super careful not to overdo it and increase too quickly. I do NOT want to hurt myself!!!

Maybe if I get a chance to "oops" and smack CR in class I will... I sent Sensei a link to my vid, so he'll see it (he wasn't there for this test - first time he's ever NOT seen me test!).
One reason I teach self defense classes for women is because I hope everyone has SOME weapon or something to fall back on if they ever need it. Women fight off attackers every day with no training - I always imagine how much more they could do if given just a little education...

I passed
(CR failed... I kinda felt sorry for him. I didn't hear how everyone else from the other schools did, but I'll find out soon)
Sensei said that the judges were impressed and wanted to give me the spirit award, but he told them he was sure I could do better (he didn't see the test) so he didn't let them give me the award . Sometimes I really do not understand him or what "lesson" he's trying to teach me.
But... I passed!!!!!

I wish I knew what it was with the crazy people in class sometimes... why did you quit Shotokan?

Ta Daaaaaa
I haven't yet watched the martial arts video but I already think you are a bad ass with all this weight you can lift!!! You're warm-up beat my deadlift PR! And those squats, and those bench presses....and most impressive of all....the chinups and pullups at BW.
My wife and I were both taking lessons but quit just because of time constraints, more than anything. We live way south of Houston and the lessons were in the museum district, which meant an hour drive into "town" just to make the lessons.
We loved it though -- it's something we may return to at some point.
Sorry I'm so late, but I'm so happy for you, especially based on how hard it was. Silly that Sensei didn't let them give that award, but at least you passed! Yay!
I wouldn't feel bad for CR considering part of the reason he didn't pass is probably because he got warnings and didn't respect that. You're supposed to practice with your mates, not kill them!
So... what's up with this stupid scale? 140 again!!! I've been on-program with food... sigh... I need a whoosh, and Thanksgiving is NOT going to help with that. Ugh.
Did 30 on stairmaster this morning, HR 75-80%...
I'm getting a cold, hoping I can fight it off. I'm gonna go get some Zicam and see if that helps... I'm not sick (yet) but I can feel it in my head, throat, chest...

And congratulations on passing your test!
I bow down to you.
No bowing down to me We bow to each other as a sign of mutual respect around here ! Actually... I prefer bowing (without the handshake) like we did when I took TKD. Much more hygenic, quite frankly... There's nothing enjoyable about shaking hands with a big sweaty germy dude who just sneezed, ya know?

LOL Kristen. Sadly, he has always been this way, and I don't see him ever changing. He always says "sorry" after, but... it means nothing when he just cannot control his movements. He's worse under pressure, like at a test . I don't know what the school is going to do - there's gotta be a point where he is told "this is as far as you can go" if he isn't capable of improving any farther...

Maybe you could find a school closer to home... I wouldn't want to drive an hour each way either!

Yeah... practice WITH, not kill 'em - exactly! Still... it's hard to see someone so disappointed... Turns out they passed everyone except him this time.
