Thanks! It was a great tournament. The first game this morning was tied with 20 seconds left and then we booted one in and won it! In quarter-finals, we had double overtime then went to a penalty kick-off - we won again! We got killed in the semi's, but our girls had no rest (due to the extended quarter-final game) and it was hot and... the other school was just better, I guess. But semi's is nothing to be ashamed of.
And DD was asked to play varsity again in next weekend's tournament (there goes ANOTHER weekend!!!).
I did finally get to the gym afterwards (since we didn't have to stay for finals) and did 30 min stairmaster. HR 75-85% max, since it was for less time.
Eats today - low on cals so far (but I'll eat more later) - low on nutrition too cuz of all the running around... To soccer (in the rain), then rush to karate demo for "home days" festival (MUD city - all over a white gi too!), then back to soccer (30 min each way!)... then to gym... now COUCH time.
One "oops" moment - doing group synchronized kata in the demo, and I was wearing the Bugg under my gi... one punch loosened it and it went to my elbow... spent the rest of the kata trying not to straighten my arm (while punching ) so it wouldn't fly off into the mud . Guess I gotta really snug it up if I wear it to class tomorrow!
Dinner (I was at 560 kcal for the DAY at 5:30 tonight) was... 'za and wings! I weighed/measured the pizza based on website for the chain's nutrition info
That's awesome about the hug in the rain!! And also about varsity soccer...it must be so much fun to watch her play...I remember how much it mean to me when my mom was at my games..especially in the rain.
You must be so proud of your daughter! I love watching my kids play (although it does get a tad old as the season progresses....) But I'm so glad to see them enjoying sports and activity considering it took me 32 years to learn that.
Yes, it is pizza night, isn't it?! At least you had some calories left to enjoy it!
Question about the body bugg--how is it different than a heart monitor? Sorry if this has been answered. Sometimes I get everything that I read all mushed up in my brain...
Weird isn't it - seems like a lot of us had 'za! Next time we all should get together and have a party
Despite the 'za and wings, I was within my cals for the day - again, since I hardly ate all day, it wasn't THAT hard. Although I coulda had 3 more slices and been "happy" - but weighing helps, since I can't rationalize that it was a small piece or that one more won't REALLY matter... I stopped after my 1 slice and my 4 wings. Evening snack was tuna and an apple to bring my macros and nutrients back into acceptable range.

I love watching her play... I don't make every game, but I try. I just want her to be fit and strong and healthy and happy. She was scared of being cut this year, but now that she's had a taste of being varsity and accepted by those girls, she REALLY wants to make varsity for the year. I want her to make it too. She's good enough, but not gonna be a starter (I try to be as objective as possible). The problem is that there are about 25 girls who are good enough, and coach won't roster more than 18-20 on varsity. So 5 "good enough" kids will still be on jv. Nothing I can do but watch and try to support her... But it'd sure be nice NOT to start the season with tears and drama...
I wasn't real athletic, but I was very into horses and riding... I had to muck stalls and work in the barn in exchange for a discount on board for my horse (it was always on a shoestring, but I loved it) - kept me in great shape all through hs. Explains part of my college weight gain - bad nutrition and no more riding and mucking...

The bugg (check out bodybugg.com) is specifically designed to measure calories burned. It has 4 or 5 different sensors and measures movement, heat, sweat, etc... It's 92% accurate compared to lab metabolic tests, according to the website. Not waterproof so you can't swim or shower with it, but designed to be worn 24/7 except in the water (I take it off to sleep too). It gives cool graphs of cals burned every minute of the day, so you REALLY see how NEAT and exercise and sitting on the couch affect your total burn.

Congrats to DD, I'm sure she was thrilled by the day and that you were there to see it. Very cool!
Thanks Jes!
I had pictures of not only losing the Bugg to a muddy puddle (costly problem if I did), but of Sensei KILLING me for wearing it and making a spectacle of myself in front of a crowd of potential students. We're supposed to remove ALL jewelry, etc etc... I still want to wear it to class (dying to see what my burn is!), but now I know to REALLY tighten that strap!
Today: plan is to do 5A workout 4 (puts me on track to start stage 6 next week - WHOOOT!)... karate later, unless I'm stuck with DD cuz the car she drives is in the shop and I have to go argue with them about who is responsible for the cost of the repairs... long story but I think they (dealer) should cover the cost. We'll see.
Forgot my lunch today - brought snacks, but no main "entree". I think I can make do with my snacks and stashed food - maybe tuna, crackers and an apple for lunch, snack on almonds and string cheese?
Just part of my mommy-brag... Pic from this weekend... My DD is the one in blue, returning the hip-check to the girl in white (#14). The ball is just outside the range of the picture... And they said soccer wasn't a contact sport
So how are you finding the Bugg now? Are you getting the daily burn rate that you expected?
(Oops - you were updating as I was typing!)
LOL Anne...
I'm burning around 2000 cal/day so far... I want to increase it, but at least I know that my 1500 cal eating plan is right. My metabolism sucks (compared to where I wish it was) and my NEAT needs to continue increasing!
I played from elementary school until college--oh, yeah, definitely a contact sport. You just always make it look like either 1) an accident or 2) the other girl's fault.
Soccer is one of my favorite sports to watch Zach play, even from when he was little. It was so funny when everyone on the field would chase the ball...like this big blob. And then to watch them develop organization and skill...too cool!
They say girls sports are finesse and guys are violence, but I've seen plenty of violence in girls sports. I played volleyball in HS and at our tourney (which we won - still proud! ) the setter got punched through the net by the girl on the other team. We all seriously doubted that it was an accident, since touching then net in general is a no no. I think all the girls sports seem to be more violent than when I was in school. Makes me worry about my unborn athletes. hehe
Love the picture! I played soccer for many years too and based on my bruises I made plenty of contact. My greatest one came from the time I took out the best player in the state. We tangled up pretty good. I was on defense and she was on a breakaway. I got a yellow, but it was worth it. She would have scored. Ahh the good ol days
My little sister plays hockey and they aren't allowed to check like the boys, but those girls know how to throw their weight around! I love it when she gets aggressive.
Who says soccer isn't a contact sport? Every game I've ever played or watched has had some contact.

My DD comes home with some amazing bruises and bumps ... and yeah - they even teach them how to shove and elbow without getting carded for it! LOL Bree about the yellow card - sounds like it was definitely worth it!
When she was only 10 or 11, DD and her rec-league team escorted the varsity girl's team onto the field for youth night. We stayed to watch, and I was SHOCKED at how rough it was at the hs level, and I remember thinking my little girl could never play like that. Guess what - now she does! And she gives as good as she gets . When she broke her wrist (hint: if you fall forward over the ball, do NOT catch yourself with outstretched arms), she wrapped the cast in foam and played anyway. She said for the game against our biggest rival she was gonna wrap the cast in metal spikes

I LOVE watching the U6 kids - if you want to find the ball, just look where every single kid on the field is in a big clump

NOT!!!!
My favorite sports season were the two years that my baby girl played HS football. She was a lineman and actually made varsity.
ROTFL Karla. And WOW about your DD... varsity line-person ()... how awesome! Somehow I imagine the apple didn't fall very far from the tree, with a strong mom like you around .
Back from karate... tightened the armband til just short of numb arm levels (!!!) and it stayed on fine for class... Burned some good cals too, even though I didn't feel like it was that bad a class. Maybe cuz my arms move so much in there???
In any case I am STARVING - lifted earlier and also burned about 200 kcal more today than I have so far since I started measuring burned cals (according to the bugg)... I don't want to totally compensate for it, but I do have about 100 kcals left in the planned "budget" and I might even let myself have 200... mebbe not... dunno yet!

Hmmm... that's a slippery slope you're going down there hamster gal. Although it might be more accurate than a HR monitor I would say stick to your calorie plan for a couple of weeks, compare it to your calories burned, then perhaps adjust your calories. I've had a couple of days where I know I burned more than planned (ie. doing heavy garden work after a lifting morning). I've even had the HR monitor still on and knew for sure. I don't adjust my calories though as I'm concerned that if I'm even off a little then... there goes my deficit.

LOL!!!! So true!

Yeah, I'll have two kids in the "blob" age group this fall (4 and 6), plus 2 kids in U12 and U14. Can you say "I live at the soccer field?!"

My older kids both played volleyball this spring and the boys' games were VICIOUS! The linebacker-looking senior summed it up like this, "My goal is to kill the other guys with the ball!"

I know you're right Anne... I ended up about 100 kcal over BUT I just this week changed from 1500/1700 to just sticking to 1500 no matter what. I figure this was my "compromise" day, hitting 1600 after lifting .

Today: 25 min SS - 5 min stairmaster, 20 min tmill 3.3 mph, 6 incline. Bugg said I burned a LOT on the tmill, but I suspect swinging arms really make a big diff on that, cuz HR was only 65-70%... Good to know .
Busy day at work... LONG day at work (about 10 hours?)... bleh.

The plus about college...was that I went away thinking my mom was the stupidest person on earth, and I came home realizing that she was pretty smart...
Age is only a number...(that you NEVER tell anyone!!!)
