Good coffee is really good black.

I really do think sometimes that coffee places push the fancy drinks to cover up inferior coffee. Well, that, and people wouldn't pay the same kind of price for a black coffee.

Okay, I've only been in a Starbucks once and it was in Singapore, so who knows if that applies to the US ones. However, the coffee was really not very good.

Hi Bytsi,
I just wanted to thank you for posting in my log and taking the time to ask some really good questions. I plan on checking out the link you posted and tweaking my food, a lot. Sometimes things like that are a little hard to hear, but I have a goal in mind and getting others' help and knowledge is key. So, thanks.

Coffee's ok, but not not my thing. I like the fun drinks that are a distant cousin to real coffee . Thank goodness they make 'em in a light version! I do drink decaf sometimes, especially at dinner if people are ordering dessert... seems to help curb my craving to order my own dessert!

Hey Ginny - sorry if it was hard to hear... I've learned so much from people's comments on my food, exercise, attitude... everything! Read that article I linked - it really was (for me) an eye opener and backs up so much that Leigh has already taught me.

Personally, I think Starbucks coffee is repulsive. It smells ok, but then it tastes burnt. I have no comprehension how people get so addicted to it.

Good luck Ginny, we're all routing for you. Sometimes we can get a little overly helpful, and I hope it doesn't push you away. I think that's what happened to Rix. Unfortunately, this isn't a blog where you can just disable "comments" on what you post. Let us know if we get out of control

I'm not a big fan of Starbucks either. They roast their beens too dark for me (giving it that burt taste). I, personally, like a medium roast and only when it's french pressed--I might be a little bit of a snob about my coffee, but I like it the way I like it. Working at a coffee shop throughout college didn't help me at all in the coffee-snob department.

By the way, my real name is Christina. I don't think I ever posted that here...oops.

Fear not, I am also a major coffee (and beer) snob. I am a huge fan of dunkin' donuts coffee, but mostly I like a lot of darker/espresso roasts - when done right. I love espresso and I used to make cafe con latte in a stove top espresso maker every morning! I do love my coffee.

Starbucks appears to have "heard" the burnt coffee people & released Pike Place roast, which is, IMO, one of their top 3 coffees. It's quite nice (Sumatra is my favorite, followed by Pike Place, then their Christmas blend). The rest of their roasts can go away for all I care.

They've also announced they're closing like 500 stores.

Anyway... that's all I got. :p

Even the pike place roast can be pretty strong.

Christmas Blend - mmmm. I know I would have a lot more money if, like Anne, I had only set foot in Starbucks once.

Gosh, if only I could have back a portion of the money I've spent on junk food over the years/decades.

I think that's my other dislike of Starbucks and Timmie's here. The cost.

Yum. Stove top espresso makers are great. I haven't used one of those in a long time.
I love the dunkin' donuts coffee too. Right now, though, I'm on a big Cafe Sanora Organic Blend kick. In fact, I think I need to make a cup now!

I am by no means a coffee snob, but I have long thought that Starbucks tasted burnt to me. Here in MN we have a Caribou Coffee on every corner instead. Seriously. Most of their stuff is a little milder tasting. I don't know how widespread the chain is across the US, but I recommend it.

I also love the Whole Foods Pacific Rim blend. A little spendy but very yummy.

I've always wanted to try one of those stove top espresso makers. It would go well in my Retro Kitchen

Very cute picture. We're all waiting to see how you do with the airdesk before we consider it.

I'm on the airdesk now! Whoot!!! Strolling 2.0 mph with 1 degree incline. NEAT!!!!

Pic coming soon... it's a little wobbly, but that might be user construction error... gonna play with the knobbies. Either way, it's a lot cheaper than the $6k tmill desk I first saw, and it works. I'm not handy enough to devise my own version, so this will do for now. Under $200 for the chance to surf 'n' walk is worth it to me!

I will get DS to bring me the camera and post a pic ASAP...

Here's DS on the treadmill with the airdesk. He's only 4'6" so it's a tiny bit high for him... It's a big heavy flat circular base (slides right under the tmill or other furniture). Has adjustable height and tilt and length (how far it slides fwd on the cross bar). Kewl! Dunno why the image won't show up full-size, so you have to click on it to see it better...

Mornin'... just logging... Karate last night was 2 classes back-to-back, so good 'n' sweaty...

This morning - 45 min SS 65-70% HR on stairmaster.

Eats - been about 100 - 200 kcal over goal the last couple of nights . Woke up and AF is visitin', so that explains that! Weight sucks, but AF could also be the reason. I hate that beeyotch ! I was stuck at the bad weight for 3 days, went down 1/2#, then up 1/2#, and down 1/2# today (which is pretty darn insignificant, if you ask me). Google 15 isn't happy with my trend... HOPEFULLY AF's arrival and imminent departure will help matters. The long holiday weekend will not, but I'll just have to behave.

Wish my bugg would arrive today, otherwise no mail tomorrow (7/4) and I WANT MY BODYBUGG!!! I'm not so good at that whole delayed gratification thing. 'Splains my frustration with weight loss too . Stuck at work today, it's one of my long days... Not sure if I'll use the airdesk tonight or not (if it's late and I'm tired, I may skip it). But I'll definitely use it over the weekend!

Planning stage 5 revised B2 tomorrow - thank goodness my mom's gym is small but has 24-hour keyfob access, so I'm going with her. No squat rack, but since I'm only squatting the bar and working on ROM, should be ok. They have ONE oly bar and ONE set of plates of each weight, but it's enough for me. I can't use our home gym (well, I could, but...) - no lat pulldown or cable setup at all, and I think I need some of that for the workout...

The air desk looks awesome...but I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to use one...but HOW COOL!

I too am a Frap-drink hound. Used to have a mocha frap every morning...with my bagel...AND my muffin...*ick* I was gross!!

I love you in the bottle...

I've been meaning to ask you about karate...do you break things...? I've always been interested in what they do in a karate class...but too chicken to actually take one...

Doesn't take coordination - you don't go fast (1-2 mph) - it's just about moving... you can even hold the handrail with one hand (I did part of the time)... Just about us internet addicts MOVING while we surf!

Bagel AND muffin... impressive

I figure for 110 or 130 kcal, it's no worse than a "regular" coffee with cream / sugar... so - why not? And I only drink one, and it's not EVERY day...

We do break boards. Did that more in taekwondo than we do in karate... but we HIT STUFF - you'd love it! We hit heavy bags and focus targets (and sometimes each other). I was thinking you should do martial arts when I read your post about boxing in your log!

I go with my mom to the gym - but we don't work out together at all - she does her own thing and I turn up my headphones ... I tried training her years ago when I was first certified, and it was a DISASTER. She doesn't listen, talks back, does her own thing no matter what I say. She's happier in her senior-center group classes with 1# db's and lots of talking and socializing... But I will use her gym (where she lives) because it's open tomorrow via her key-fob access

Stage 5 Workout B-Revised-2

Went with my mom to her crappy little (but open on 7/4) gym. Crowded... bleh. Managed to do what I needed to do, so it's all good.

Deadlift: 3x4 @ 165#

Squat: 3x8 @ 45# - worked on ROM - no squat rack, but luckily I can easily put an Oly bar over my head.

1-arm pushups - 3x4 on each side.

1-leg squats - 3x8 on each leg - still working on balance and ROM

Lat Pulldown - kneeling -- hard to kneel cuz the bench was really long, so I kinda sat with the knee rest as high as possible. 3x4@ 115#, kinda awkard.

1 leg lunge off step w/ fwd reach - 3x4 @ 50# (2x25#)

Face Pull - 2x10 @ 40# -

Back Extension - 3x12 @ BW

Abs - 2x10 prone jackknives

HAPPY 4th of July!!

bytsi: you take peaches and cut them in half and grill them cut side down for 1-2 minutes. then top them with splenda, honey, sugar, etc (i can't do stevia.. spider hives and asthma attacks follow any consumption of any stevia containing food. go my immune system). Eat warm. They're SO good..

Lib - sounds delish, but too much work for me!!!

Today: frickin' scale sux. Bleh. Prolly cuz it was July 4th and I didn't weigh or measure my dinner pig-out. Bleh. Stupid Bytsi. Bleh.

Walked pretty far going to/from fireworks, but I know it didn't make up for the food-fest earlier in the evening .

Bodybugg better show up today - I just need something fun to get excited about, ya know? I WANT MY BODYBUGG!!!! It's paid for, it's mine - I want it.

Today - 20 min on stepmill/gauntlet while waiting for sweaty dude to get off my stairmaster. Then he left WITHOUT WIPING IT DOWN!!!! EWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cursed loudly at his backside walking out the door, got a few agreement comments from other people... and scrubbed the thing before I got on. I mean, seriously, WTF!?!? He knew I was waiting cuz I'd asked him how much longer he was going to be on. He was SO sweaty he left a slippery puddle on the floor under it (fine, whatever, sweat happens) but then he just walked out?!?!?

Anyway - followed the 20 on stepmill with 30 on stairmaster. I was originally going for 40, but am going out on my bike with DS and DH later (if the tires aren't rotted from lack of use!), so I'll be active...

We have neighborhood party tonight. I should skip it cuz I have so much trouble staying on program at those things, and I already overate yesterday (damnit!!!!)... but we'll probably go. Wish me strength of will.

I think I'll wear too-tight waist-band pants to remind me to keep my hands outta the food.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine and I see it happen all the time. I now wipe everything down before hopping on, which is a huge pain in the ass!
