Whew... back to "normal" (hey - no comments about me never being normal here, ok? ).

Set the friggin' alarm clock and did 30 min stairmaster even though I SO wanted to sleep. DH snored bad last night... around 1 or 2am (?) he got up and said "I'll go in the other room so you can sleep" (cuz I was kickin' him to shut him up ) and then - he laid back down and started snorin' more! WTF?!? Was that just a big tease??? . So... not a great sleep... but dragged tired butt to the gym. HR 70-80% since I wasn't staying on for long (could'a done longer if I hadn't hit snooze repeatedly).

And... drumroll...
After FIVE days of exact same number, scale dropped down 1.5# this morning.

I've been waiting... going to bed hungry... knew it HAD to happen soon (or else I was gonna freak even worse - howz THAT for a threat? ).

I will never understand the scale, but at least I am back on a little down-ish mini-trend again.

I think you get very self involved in those years trying to sort out who you are and you lose track of everyone else in the world and their feelings.
The other thing I can think is that my Mom was trying to hide some of the things that were going on to try and spare my feelings and keep me from worrying and I didn't realize what I was happening. I don't know if that's what's happening with you guys, but I guess you both need to remember you don't know everything about eachother's lives.
I'm glad you sort of worked things out. I'm sure they will even out over the next couple of days. Just take some time for yourself tonight to recenter. And have a kickin' dinner!
Hey thanks Jes... A lot that needed to be said was said... and I think that while she knows I have feelings, she also doesn't really GET that I have feelings - does that make sense? She sometimes like to hurt 'em, but I don't think she understands how much she can REALLY hurt me. Or maybe she does?

Alien abduction. THAT would explain SO much . Hope they eventually bring my darling little girl back (even if she is a wonderful young woman at that time).

Thanks!!!

Today the scale was up 1/2#, but still a good overall down trend (I knew it'd bounce a little bit!). Karate last night was nice and sweaty - all sparring... a few bruises but no major injuries so that's good . DH got mad / frustrated sparring me... he hasn't done it for a while (he only came back to martial arts a few months ago) and I've been doing it steadily for years... his answer was to hit and kick harder - bleh. I just kept laughing at him - not trying to be mean, but his anger unbalanced him (that's a reference from some stupid movie - I forget which one).

Today I finally lifted again - first time since June 11!

Stage 5 1A (supersetted)

1 arm DB snatch: 3x4 @ 35# (4 on each side). I had thought I'd go up, but... nope!

DB single-leg RDL: 1x4 of 2x40#'s, 2x4 @ 2x45#'s

Bbell bent row: 3x4 @ 110#

DB single-arm overhead squat: 3x4 of 25#/12# - just can NOT seem to increase these!

DB incline bench press: 1x4 of 2x40#'s, 2x4 @ 2x45#'s -- hardest part is lifting them from my knees!

Plank: 90, 70

Reverse wood chop: 2x4 @ 50#'s

BW Matrix: 2:52, 2:35 - bleh.

Way to go on the scale! And looks like a great workout.

I started Stage 5 last night too. I was short on time so took very minimal rest and it helped get the intensity up there.

I am also struggling with adding on the DB single arm OH squat. One side is way easier too.

I don't know the movie reference, either, though it sounds oddly familiar. When I dislocated my elbow 3 years ago (to the day!), it was because I was angry and trying to do just what your DH was doing. Bleh. I stop now if I start to get angry; I don't want to hurt myself like that again.

And congrats on those reds!

I'm not 100% sure I'll finish stage 5. I hated B in stage 3, so we'll see...

LOL! I love being macho . I doubt I could do more than 4, maybe 5 reps at that weight... good thing the workout only called for 4!

Yeah... DH banged the top of his foot into my elbow and was whining about it... I just said "my elbow wasn't on the ground - you put your foot into it" he he he...

And I found the damn quote - took me forever cuz I had one word wrong (duh!)
---- it's from Excalibur (1981) - one of the all-time best movies ever! From the scene where Lancelot is fighting Arthur over crossing the bridge, and he tells him "your rage has unbalanced you"... Nicol Williamson is THE best Merlin ever - shoulda won an Oscar!

Bleh workout today. Just bleh. Guess I was a little sore-ish from lifting yesterday... no real DOMS, but not energetic either. Also walked the puppy for about 45 min last night to get some extra NEAT... Went in with plans to do 60 on stairmaster... made it to 29 min and gave up, even though it was low SS (HR 65-70%). Did 10 more min on recumbent bike which was basically a cool-down as my HR dipped to 100 or lower by the end of that... Just didn't have much, even at that low level. Will do cardio again tomorrow morning - have to decide if I up the intensity or stretch the time... decisions decisions...

Then had women's self defense class (I'm one of the instructors). Beautiful day out, so hardly anyone showed up - much less activity than I'd normally have in there... oh well. DH and I are finally going out for our anniversary tonight - dinner somewhere (still figuring that out) and then a comedy club. It's a nice club and also they offer a beautiful raw veggies & ranch dip platter so I can munch my way through the show without doing lots of damage .

Back later (or tomorrow)!

Thanks gals!!! We did have fun... had a fancy dinner but I just had grilled tuna with asparagus and this awesome appetizer (mini ice cream cones with salmon sushi and mango sorbet on top - sounds weird but SO yummy!)... and had ONE little bite of DH's dessert. Then ate a couple tortilla chips at the comedy club, but total of only about 100 kcal over for the day... I'm good with that!

But I LOVE my hamster self - and hey - how is that not macho?? Dontcha see the size of that barbell I'm lifting?

ANYWAY...
Today - did my 1 hour on the stairmaster - actually stayed on the whole time (unlike the gasping panting dude next to me who kept stopping and pausing every 5 minutes)... Tomorrow will be stage 5 B1 and then we'll see how much I HATE that freakin' workout again...

Yes, the appetizer sounds weird (but glad it was good). That's pretty good for an evening out though. Glad you had a good time.

Just checkin' in - eats on track... don't wanna do my work today ... Scale is behaving - I'm down (according to Google 15) about 4# in the last 5 weeks (2# in the last 2 weeks). Since my goal was 1#/week, I'm ok with it... and I'm being compliant - gets easier as time goes on...

I think I do best when I can have a few treats (with calories accounted for). I eat healthy and stick to my macros, but when I can't have ANY treats at all, I get unhappy and end up with a binge-ish episode. Not necessarily super high-cal, but I just say f--- it all and eat what I want. So allowing for treats helps me...

I'm finding some yummy munchies (I pay more for prepackaged pre-portioned stuff to help control myself) that are healthy too - "Sensible foods" makes freeze dried fruit with NO preservatives or anything except fruit in it, and if I mail-order it it's expensive but not as bad as the grocery store! No 100-cal oreo packs or anything like that! I'm also allowing myself to eat a few Werther's during the day when I want sweet. At 20 kcal each, I account for them but they don't ruin my diet completely.

Speaking of which... grumbling stomach says snack time! Laters!

Yay on the scale dropping! I definately agree with you that allowing some room for treats is the best route. My big vice is salt and, well, beer. It's especially difficult now that its summer and I'm on vaca. My goal this week is to limit myself to beer only on weekends and really watch my salt intake. Just hid my scale. Out of sight out of mind right? I'm way too obsessive with it.

Hey, Bytsi! Long time no typing in here!

It's good to see that you are happy with the weight you are dropping steadily. You've had some emotional days since I last checked in and you can tell that you are handling them better than you suspected.

It looks like you have a good plan for your treats. Keep up the good work!

Happy anniversary, Bytsi! Your dinner sounds delicious!

It sounds like you're into a good groove with the scale and eating - getting the treats in so you stay sane without going overboard. Good for you!

Hope stage 5 B1 was not too terrible....

I have tried not weighing in - for me, it means that pounds creep up without me admitting it... I can say all I want about "normal" but, for me, "normal" has to be vigilance... But it also has to include treats --- I've REALLY become aware of how much salt screws up my weight - trying to avoid massively salty foods too.

It's good to see that you are happy with the weight you are dropping steadily. You've had some emotional days since I last checked in and you can tell that you are handling them better than you suspected.

It looks like you have a good plan for your treats. Keep up the good work!
Hey Steph - good to hear from ya! I don't know if I handled the emotional stuff so well, but thanks for the vote of confidence!

It sounds like you're into a good groove with the scale and eating - getting the treats in so you stay sane without going overboard. Good for you!

Hope stage 5 B1 was not too terrible....
It SUCKED. Hate 5-B. Bleh (more later...).

Nah... don't be jealous of me. One reason I can bench is that I set a goal, a few years ago, to be able to bench the bar plus a 45# plate on each side. And I did it - one rep, but I did it. So I've probably retained some of that - and also we do tons of pushups in karate!

Today: Stage 5 B1:

Barbell RDL / Row - 3x4 110# -- focused on range of motion here

Partial 1-leg squat - 3x8 (each leg) BW, pistol style but my range of motion isn't great.

Wide grip lat pulldown - 1x4 @ 140#, then 2x4 @ 120# but kneeling instead of using the seat with thigh bar -- definitely tougher - but closer to a pullup!

Back Extension - 3x12 BW

YTWL - 3x4, 5# db's. Hate 'em.

Abs - 3x12 prone jackknives, 3x20 bicycle crunches.

Prone Cobra - couldn't bear to do 'em. Bleh.

SOOOOOOOO.... here's my thought. If I skip the rest of stage 5, it's not truly following NROLW - and I don't mind workout A... I think I'm gonna make up my own workout B based on all the principles I've been learning, and just do that for the next 3, until it's time for stage 6. I'll be back to post what I'm considering... I loved stage 1 and miss some of the stage 2 stuff too - so I'll focus on a balanced push/pull/lunge/squat/dead/twi st compliment to workout A - but with exercises I don't hate!

Default new rules of stage 5?

Ok... here goes - feedback is welcome, as I am torn between overdoing it and not doing enough...

My substitute stage 5B workout, consisting of moves I like and that I'll enjoy... I tried not to duplicate other stages too badly, not to add too much that'll be back in stage 6... I feel like legs are slightly neglected, along with a lot of "big" lifts that I love doing... I left in the parts that I know are necessary from 5B (like the 1-leg squats).

I plan to do 3x4 instead of the 4x4 option, since I promised not to overdo things for now while I'm in fatloss mode.

A Deadlift -- cuz I love 'em. I was torn between this and FSPP, but since we do one-arm snatch in A and the FSPP comes back in stage 6, this seemed less redundant.
B1 Back Squats -- cuz I know I could do better than I did in stage 1 and I want to give 'em a better shot, most likely with lower weight to improve ROM. Why did these disappear anyway?
B2 Pushup variations -- just fer becuz - I could also do db shoulder press here, if I feel like it...
C1 1 leg squat -- need the unilateral work
C2 Wide grip lat pulldown -- another important part that has to stay
D1 Face pulls -- my preferred shoulder prehab, although MAYBE I'll do some YTWL too
E1 Back Extension -- need 'em
E2 Abs -- May not change much here - I'll see what mood I'm in when I do it.

And no darn prone cobras - I usually skip 'em... maybe I'll do some supermans or other core work instead, maybe not!

Bytsi - I like this new approach to stage 5! I am thinking of adding stuff to the B workout, too. I don't mind the A as much just like you. I like the idea of adding in some deadlifts and squats. Those are some of my favorite exercises.

BTW, your RDL/Row weight is awesome! I can't figure out why I am so bad at rows, I feel like I use too much of my lower back.
