I got to eat today - YAY!!!
But I think the workout suffered from yesterday's lo-cal - I just didn't feel as strong as I should've... so maybe I'll reassess - either not do the starve days when I'm already at a deficit (I could save 'em til I'm on maintenance) OR I might try Tuesday instead, since I don't lift til 3pm on Weds, and on Friday (today) I lifted at 9am - not enough time to be refueled...).

Today's workout: Stage 4 B3

Wide-grip DL from step -- 1x8 @ 135#, 2x8 @ 145#.

Bulgarian Split-squat -- 3x8 @ 35#s (2x17.5#s).

Underhand grip lat pulldown -- 3x8 @ 130# - these felt so hard today

Prone Cuban Snatch -- 3x8 w/ 12.5# db's.

Rear lunge off step w/ forward reach -- 3x8 w/ 17.5# db's.

Ball crunch, reverse crunch, side flexion -- 2x10 each, supersetted.

Prone Cobra -- OOPS! I forgot 'em

Food today:
1/2 c Fiber 1 raisin bran w/ skim milk
PWO shake - banana, prot. powder & milk
salad w/ lettuce, tomato, 1 slice crumbled bacon, grilled chicken breast, avocado, 1 egg, 1T blue cheese dressing (dipped fork)
snack - at mall w/ DS - 90 kcal fruit juice "smoothie" with 1 protein shot (only 35 kcal and 8g protein - huh?!?)
dinner - Bob Evans (I love 'em and they now finally have all their nutrition info online!) -- egg beaters, 1 turkey-sausage link, 1 multigrain pancake
snack - wheat thins (yeah, I know... LOL!)

Total: 1681 kcal, 43c/28p/29f (127g protein - oops - probably need to eat a little more like tuna or string cheese tonight)

Shopped today (bribed DS - he got a cool toy for being good and coming with me!)... and I got clothes!!! Yay!!! I think he's my shopping good-luck charm. I found cute shorts and an adorable top, and while not everything I tried on fit (I'm not down that much!), the stuff I bought did fit - so YAY!!! And I think (hope) most of it will still be fine when I'm a bit lighter too, but none of it is so tight that it looks gross now...

Thanks Marty!
I was up 1# today, but since yesterday was down 1.5# and TTOTM is seriously due by tomorrow (where is she?!? - and no I am NOT pg!), so overall trend still good!

Way to go on your progress. Keep up the good work!
I love Twizzlers too... sigh...
1350 was hard, and I was mad that I didn't stick to 1200... but... oh well.

That sounds like starvation day to me! LOL Good job coming in that low and resisting the temptations throughout the day!
Thanks Diane. YES I rested. Did make sure to do NEAT (I do a lap around the track any time I go to the bathroom or have to talk to my boss, and I have been sitting/bouncing on a ball instead of my chair when I'm typing).

Hey Nick - I saw the hamster - tres cute!!!
I like Leigh's books and recommend them... just learned that details matter - how's that for the 2cent summary? She lays it all out well, and makes you really "get it" even if you already "knew it" before... And it's nice to know you can trust the info, having seen the results others here are getting with her plans.

Bytsi, I enjoy tremendously reading about your battle with hunger. Misery loves company you know. I don't think I am suffering nearly as badly as you but today while I was reading your log (earlier in the day) my stomach started to growl. I have not had hunger growls for a very long time. It made me LOL! It was growling in hamony with yours.

You are doing great so far. I am so glad that you have started to track and get dirty with this. Soon you will probably be able to drop all the tracking.

Hi Nik - I use versa-grips (Versagripps.com). What I love is that they are good for heavy push (if you're benching), heavy pull (like DL's) BUT you can also just ignore that they're on since they velcro around your wrist and not use 'em at all. For example, I might use 'em for DL and heavy rows or pulldowns, but just use my own grip for warming up, or step-ups and lunges - they don't get in the way at all. And I even have big callouses to prove that I don't always use them

Thanks Karla! Sorry 'bout your tummy growls - I'm quite familiar with that sound... I don't know if I'll ever drop the tracking - dropping it was the first step in my regain trend of the last 5 years . We're going on vaca in February (yeah, I plan ahead) and I'm already wondering if I'll try to track, what I'll do, etc etc .

Wanna hear a weird/good thing? Last night AF finally arrived (right as I was posting about where is she?!) and I decided to "treat" myself to my mini-pack of m&m's that I haven't had in weeks - just a little 60 kcal chocolate hit... and I opened the bag, and ate a few, and...

Eh.

That was it. Not yum, just Eh.

So I tossed the rest of 'em. Why bother?

How weird is that? I LUV my chocolate, but... even with AF visiting, they just didn't taste as good as I thought they used to. I still love dark chocolate (had one piece a few days ago), but the m&ms were my FAVORITE and (as Jane will remember) a nightly mini-indulgence... but now...

Hmmmmmmmm....

Not so much a fan of M&Ms as I am of dark chocolate. I told bob at the beginning of the year, if I'm going to have chocolate, it's going to be good, dark chocolate, and not much of this milk chocolate crap.

There's nothing like good chocolate - well maybe good sex is in the same realm.

That's great about the chocolate! If you are going to give into a craving, you want to enjoy every bite, not just eat to eat. It sounds like you're really making a big change in how you approach food. Good on you!

LOL - seems like everyone can relate to chocolate in one way or another! I read once that chocolate releases the same endorphins as sex - so maybe Paula's right!

Today's workout: SS cardio for 45 minutes: 30 min stairmaster at around 140-ish bpm, then 15 min tmill walk at 6 degree incline, around 120-125 bpm. Was going to do an hour, but... bleh. Gonna go walk around later anyway, so I'll get some more NEAT.

Party at our neighbor's tonight... starts at 8 (hey, isn't that close to my bedtime?). At least I can eat small sensible dinner before... I don't drink, but I have to be careful of the snax. Skipped the all-day picnic today because it's too freakin' hot and humid to be stuck outside, DH & DS didn't want to go (DD doesn't go ANYWHERE with us - she's a teenager), and I didn't need uncontrolled food options all day AND all night!

The good news is that when it's hot you don't want to eat as much. I know that's fer sure! I was driving home from sweaty Pilates in my sweaty car in 92 degree weather and I thought about all the fattening stuff I had eaten in the past two days and wanted to puke I think that's why I lose in the summer. All I want is a salad

Great work on the workouts. I agree with getting more NEAT in instead. I used to discount the importance of it, but now I sees the light I think it's awesome that you consider it in your day and work to get it higher. Very cool Have a great weekend! Concentrate on the company instead of the food tonight!

Not weird at all actually. I have been saying this all along. As you feed yourself with better foods the cravings for crap actually begin to go away. The crap food eventually doesn't taste good enough to warrant all the feeling bad and bloating that is going to happen. You are experiencing this yourself now and will experience it even more as you travel down this path I bet. Congrats!

Oh... yesterday's food was BAD. Spoken too soon, guys...

So, started off ok, and I had to take DD to the mall for clothes she "needs" with her gf (yeah - two days in a row at the mall - good thing I like shopping!). After we were there about 2 hours, I start feeling really light-headed and hypo-glycemic. Haven't had this feeling for a while and it sucks. Prolly didn't eat enough since we had planned to get dinner out (like I needed that!). So I try to find something healthy - got some almonds (salted - bleh) at Starbux, but still didn't feel right. So went to Panera and had turkey-chickpea chili soup. Not so bad, but salty, and I also had a few too many bites of "samples" walking through the eatery (I tend do that when I start feeling bad).

Still didn't feel well, and I knew it was about letting the food catch up and stabilize the blood sugar... drove friend home, took DD to Applebees. Wasn't real hungry anymore, stomach was not feeling great (I'm sure the beans/chickpeas weren't helping!). Ordered the WW french onion soup (15g protein, only 150 kcal) and it was good but must've had 500% of my daily salt. Also had part of a dinner salad...

So headed off to the party with about 150 kcal left (?) Finally was feeling better. Ate fruit kabobs to be "good" (at least 150 kcal worth)... AND shrimp (also ok for me, about 100 kcal worth)... AND way too many bites of chip/dip (there were probably 6 or 7 different home-made dips people brought) AND a slice of rum-cake (oh that was goooooood).

So, I'm guessing I had between 500 - 1000 kcal over my budget???

BLURGH

With all the salt, I'm up so high on the scale it's not funny. I know it's salt, but it sucks and I am struggling to remind myself that all progress isn't really lost.

At least I didn't eat ALL the chips/dip I could've (and would've in the past) and I didn't touch the rumballs or the homemeade chocolate chip cookies and other desserts...

I wonder if I'd have done so badly if I felt better and/or if AF wasn't here.

Bytsi,
I'm with you there--I get so upset with myself because I work so hard training and then blow it with the food side of things. Who said "you can't outtrain a bad diet.."? That should be my sig line. Anyway, I had just made it to 135 (-5# since starting NROL4W) and we had that anniversary/bike fest/memorial day picnic weekend, and ended up gaining almost all of it back. I kept off the scale for a few days and tried to eat right, but I'm still a couple lbs over that milestone. It's good that you realize it was mostly salt though, and only one day instead of, um, say, a week! You'll be back on track soon--I'm doing much better also.

Girl, believe me, you will remember this one for awhile! All that salt I had on Thursday made me so bloated it was awful. And it lasted for three days! I hope yours goes away faster, but I can tell you that I will think twice about eating stuff like that in mass quantities again. Mostly because I hate having my hands and feet be swollen and my belly feel like it's going to explode! Maybe an experience like this is what you needed so you can go back to it next time when you think about having stuff outside of the norm. If people tempt you, you can say, nope I don't want to be a water balloon with legs tomorrow. Thanks!

Bytsi, don't beat yourself up too much. I'm sure it won't affect your results in the long run and it is just the salt that's making your weight go up.

That's the sort of thing I do often. The thing I hate the most is that I don't really enjoy it. I don't mind overeating once in a while for something really good and sitting down and just enjoying it. But it's nearly always just picking at stuff that I didn't really want because it's there, and I think why did I do that?

Today's workout:
HIIT on stairmaster. For whatever reason legs felt nice and fresh, so I pushed it a bit - did 10 intervals instead of my usual 8 (HR 90-95%)... 30 seconds at L10, 30-45 rest at L3. Then did 15 minutes incline walk on treadmill (HR 75%-ish)... Then walked slowly doing errands for about 3-4 hours this afternoon. Nothing stressful, but I didn't sit or stop moving much at all.

I'm pretty much back on today... part of me thinks I should eat less today, but... I got a good workout and did plenty of NEAT, so... I've gotta forgive myself and move on.

Salt sucks!!! I'm really starting to be more aware of it, avoiding more than just the beef jerky... I really hope these pounds come off quickly - I'm so mad, didn't even log 'em cuz I couldn't face the number . I'll log it in a day or 2 when I have a better number to follow with... I BETTER HAVE A GOOD NUMBER SOON!!!

Yeah, it was mindless habit picking of food... and I even thought "I should step away from the table area" but I didn't... then I was juggling a plate with my water, and I thought "just lose the plate" - but I didn't... DUH!!! Idiot.

Better on food today... sticking to my 1500 (give or take a couple, but NOT 2000 kcal!!!!)

Right or wrong I usually say that anything within 25 cals on either side is meeting plan. I used to use 100 calorie ranges, which seemed silly because if I was at the low end of the range I would make a point to bump something up. I do notice that when I'm planning out the day though I usually try and stick within 15 of what I'm aiming for.

Good luck.

Just cuz it's been kitty week around here in a lot of other logs... my non-feline babies (and no, not the human ones either!)

The baby of the family - 1 year old and the most playful funny guy we've ever met... he really has no clue he's not human - even walks across the room on his hind legs, and makes the strangest noises - I think he's talking but we're not sure what language it is. Not English, but not barking either!
Coco Sits.jpg

This is the "princess" - she's 10 now, and hates the young guy who always bites at her and wants to play...
LuluShoes.jpg

One more... the little guy... he goes up to the couch and if a blanket is hanging over the edge, he burrows under it and makes it into his own cover, then dozes off...

Very cute, even though I'm a cat person. I really do quite like dogs as well, we just don't have a suitable yard for them here.

For some reason I'm really hungry today - even before the workout I was hungry all day... sigh... nowhere NEAR enough calories left for my appetite today!

Today's workout - Stage 4, B4 (still debating if I do one more to make up for when I was sick)

Front squat push press -- 2x8 @ 60#, 1x8 @ 65# (HEAVY)

Step-ups -- 3x8 @ 50# (2x25# db's) -- never did increase these, but maybe tempo's a bit better?

1-point Row -- 3x8 @ 90# (2x45# db's).

Static Lunge rear foot elevated -- 3x8 @ 40# (2x20# db's).

Pushups -- 3/10 "walking" my hands across a step.

Plank -- 2x90 sec. I'd be happy with that if I didn't HATE the flippin' things so much.

Horizontal Wood chop -- 2x8 @ 40# (I stayed at work and worked out, so not sure how much this is relative to the cable at my regular gym).

Karate later - no a/c unless he got it fixed, and it's in the 90's and humid. Ugh!!!!!!

Your workout looks great! Nice job on all the increases

Love the puppy pics. We have a dog and a cat, but the cat is sooo not mine - she was part of the packaged deal with my husband She's ok every once in awhile, but since I'm allergic she just looooves me

SS Cardio for the hungries. Go for a walk or a nice easy and slow jog or bike ride. Work up just a tiny bit of a sweat but don't work too hard. Hunger goes away for hours that way.

Nice plank btw!

hey Bytsi
just catching up.....goood for you on the m&m's! It is a good feeling when you don't crave the crap anymore! Mainly just because it makes me feel better about what I am eating AND that I will have a much easier time dieting if I don't CRAVE that stuff so much!!! ha!
Great workouts and I am with you on the planks....today they were 120 sec for me and that was VERY difficult I thought!!! WHEW! I was surprised how much harder adding just 30 sec. was!?? crazy!
I am glad you logged about salt because I had a few nights (about a month ago) where I was feeling weird and my hands were actually hurting from being swollen and I didn't understand it at all....now I think I have my culprit....SALT! UGH! I will have to watch that from now on.
Does anyone know if sea salt acts any different ? Since it's not the same as table salt and does not have iodine? just wondering since I normally cook with sea salt.

Bytsi,
nice work on the workout--you really are strong! And I started a post last night about the dogs--they're SO cute! I love dogs and really miss having them (my kids and I are all allergic...)

Good luck at karate, I REALLY hope you have some a/c...
