I went for a run today outside. I did intervals of 1 minute fast jogging and 2 minutes walking. I guess I was out about 25 minutes or so. It's so much different and harder than on the treadmill. We live in a very hilly neighborhood that isn't climate controlled like the gym.
It's funny you should say that. I've got free time to kill tomorrow and although I've packed a towel and such for the gym the plan is to go to a local park instead. It's pretty wide open and the paths go up and down either a natural or man-made sloping site. I kind of prefer the outdoors, especially with fall/winter coming.
I too prefer the outdoors.... And little secret RE treadys. Never run without some incline. I usually run tready with a 3% incline and that helps me to transition to the outdoors.

My husband is on the far right. My son is on the far left. My grandson is in the middle back. My oldest daughter is between my son and grandson. Her husband is the only one missing from the picture; he had to work. My 10 year old and 8 year olds are in front with me. I'm standing next to my husband. We were at Mt Mitchell, the highest elevation east of the Mississippi, on our anniversary in August.
I'm glad to see that you've pointed everyone out. I came in to just ask the same question. It looks like you had a pretty good outing though. Everyone looks like they were having a great time.
Ill be taking a little side track for 30 days. Leigh Peele is starting a 30 day challenge for a small group of people chosen from those who commented on one of her recent blogs, and she invited me to join! It's a definite cut, so who knows what will happen before next month's check in. I'm not exactly sure when it starts, so I'll just keep doing Stage 6 until Leigh's challenge starts. I'll keep you posted!
Omgz I thought that was you! Congrats. I can't wait to see how it goes!
Pauline....I mean this in the best way.....but, I don't know you've got much to improve on! You already look soooo great!! Perfect weight for your height.....
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Thank you, everyone! You all are so supportive and kind!
Today was Day One and I'm on track so far. I have brief moments of terror but then have to remind myself that 30 days is 30 days not the rest of my life! I like Leigh's philosophy of get in, get it done, and get out!
My goal for the challenge is more body recomp than anything. I would love to go down 3-5% in bodyfat. That may or may not show up in actual weight loss, because I'm doing ST, too, and may gain LBM. We shall see.
I just wanted to stop through and say congratulations on getting picked for Leigh's challenge. I have found her absolutely wonderful to work with and I'm excited that you get to experience it too!
Day 2 is done! I'm actually feeling pretty good. I'm not used to eating so much protein. If you read Leigh's blog today, you know that the 30 day challenge includes eating your goal weight in grams of protein every day and 1/4 your gw in fat grams. That's a challenge for me because I usually don't even make it to 100g protein...
Any super high protein meal ideas would be appreciated! I'm making Paula's Pumpkin Protein Pancakes tomorrow! Thanks for the recipe, Paula!!
LOL, tcoy! I'm adding a whole new dimension to the joke, "Which came first the chicken (boneless, skinless, breast, of course) and the egg (whites mostly, to be sure!)?
Tunafish is my usual high protein standby, but the idea of eating tuna all day is NOT appealing. LOL. So chicken it is and lean beef and maybe some salmon and eggs if they're disquised as protein pancakes.
I'm going to follow Karen's example and post my Challenge compliance and thoughts every day.
30 Day Challenge Day 1 October 17, 2008
Compliance to nutritional program: 100%
Today was up and down emotionally. Had to keep reminding myself that 30 days is only 30 days... I made a poor choice for the one big meal and ended up having to force the last of it down at the end of the day. Blech. I wasn't hungry due to all the protein and increased water intake.
Compliance to training program: 100%
Today's training went well. I felt strong and ready even though I hadn't slept well the night before.
Today's weight: I actually started a pound up (109.25) from the stats I sent to Leigh the week before (108.25). I was coming off a a rest week and had a salty burger late in the evening the night before Day 1 started so the gain wasn't unexpected.
30 Day Challenge Day 2 October 18, 2008
Compliance to nutritional program: 100%
Today went much better nutritionally. I made a much better choice for the meal. My husband and I went on a lunch date and I just had black coffee while he ate. I didn't mind it one bit. I am NOT hungry at all. I actually ate my last meal at 9:30 PM because I took the kids to Boo in the Zoo and wasn't hungry at all before we left!
Compliance to training program: 100%
Today was another good training day. I felt strong going in and worked hard.
30 Day Challenge Day 3 October 19, 2008
Compliance to nutritional program: 100%
I planned a glass of 1% milk into my 3 meals today and it's wonderful even without cookies!! I love milk. Paula's pancakes are pretty good for a high protein meal! I'm logging my food on SparkPeople and it probably looks very strange to have such a huge breakfast and no other meals for the day logged!
Compliance to training program: 100%
I was feeling a little fatiqued today, but it's probably mostly because I stayed up way too late last night. Even though I rested for 7+ hours, I didn't feel rested. I'm going to bed earlier tonight.
Today was Day One and I'm on track so far. I have brief moments of terror but then have to remind myself that 30 days is 30 days not the rest of my life! I like Leigh's philosophy of get in, get it done, and get out!
I am so with you. After I remind myself that it is only a very limited amount of time (30 days) I am able to get back to it without difficulty.
I just wanted to say I think you already look awesome, but I am looking forward to watching your progress.
I dunno about meals, but low fat cottage cheese (i do 2% cuz I can't stand FF) and greek yogurt are great protein sources. With a little dried fruit or honey, they make a great snack.
And here is a pictures of Paula's Protein pancakes. This was my meal yesterday!! Paula, thanks again for posting that recipe. I really enjoyed yesterday's big meal. Yes, that is real Applegate Sunday Bacon! Yum!! I put the Sparkpeople nutrition facts for the whole day's worth of food.
