Well I got the call!! Heading out today and flying out tomorrow for Northern California to fight fire. Woot!! This is what I've been training for.
I'll be back the first week of August... If I miss the challenge thread, then Diane was going to post pics for me, 'cept I depopulated them from photobucket like a big dummy. So I will repost them here for Diane to stick on the challenge thread later. My goal upon returning from this trip and for the challenge is to well, recover from the trip LOL and then meet my unmet goals from the last challenge. I'd like to reach goal weight this year mainly.
Here's the last set of pics from the last challenge.
Susan's been staying in touch with me and she's doing good. She's at the Canyon Complex fire in northern California, 25 miles southeast of Quincy. She should be finished up there August 5th or so and back to home and normality shortly thereafter. I'll come back and stick her info in the gals' challenge since she'll be a couple of days late.
glad you're home safe - my heart about stopped today when I heard about the helicopter accident up north east of Redding - my heart goes out to those firefighters and their families and loved ones..
I go back to dietary tracking and caloric restriction tomorrow. I gained back some on the trip but that could be water, inflammation, etc. I'll pick back up on exercise when some of the joint soreness quits, so far that's been real gradual on recovery so I'll take it slow.
Meanwhile here are some pics from my trip!! We did mainly mop up and rehab as things are winding down out there. We staged for initial attack one day but the fire was too extreme to fight without dozed in safety zones. Last day we pulled a 12000 ft hose lay off of steep handline and humped it to two sling sites and a helispot. Then we hiked back to the helispot and got a chopper ride back to base During that last steep hike out I was thinking how glad I was for all the interval training I did
Thanks folks! Recovery has been slow. Kept wondering why I was feeling worse rather than better. Broke down and went to the doc today. Now I'm on Cipro and expectorants trying to get the last of California out of my lungs. Feel like a boiled turd I'm not sure when I'll get back to some kind of a program. I did download the FitDay paid program and have started using it, at there's some progress!
I wish I had an update LOL.. I finally got off the cipro Rx Thursday and I'm starting to feel some better but nowhere near 100%. Which kinda sucks because I'm taking an agility test tomorrow as a new recruit for my rural fire department. Hopefully if I'm feeling about 50% for heavy physical work, I can make up the other 50% with piss vinegar and ornery.
No clue when I'll get back on any kinda program at this point. I think with that I'll have to pass on the current challenge and look at participating in the next one. I'll be playing catch up for awhile it seems.
Wow. August since I posted! Ack. I'm still working out and working on it, just haven't been posting since I was sick. Need a new program and really want to get to goal weight next year as it didn't happen this year. Cleaner eating in my short term future I do believe. Good news though I have kept my conditioning and made 40:52 on my pack test last week. That is 3 miles in 45 minutes, no running, with a 45# weighted vest for firefighting quals. 2 minutes off last year's time
