Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I would quote you all, but they span a couple of pages and I can't figure that one out! I'm a little tired right now
I had a good day (and a piggy day! - well piggy weekend). I meant to get a workout in today, but it just didn't happen today. I should be back on track with everything tomorrow. I don't have to work any more late nights and I can make proper, healthy dinners and workout all in the same night. Won't that be a miracle! And quite a change from the last five weeks or so.
I'm going to be getting in a lot of NEAT this week too because we're having my birthday party this weekend and this house needs to be cleaned and many things need to be made, so I'm going to be on my feet a lot running around. Which is a good thing. I hope to live up to my challenge goals and get lots of cardio in this week along with the NEAT and some serious healthy eating.
That's all I have to report right now - it has been anything but exciting in the health/exercise department lately, as my challenge pics show, but hopefully that which was quickly put on will be quickly taken off (fingers crossed!), especially now that I know so many of the things that I had been doing wrong before MRM. Either way I hope to have many more reasons to come in here and post things than I have had in the last month or so. I just need to focus and get 'er done!
ps. My PB2 arrived this weekend and it is awesome with cream cheese. I love it!
Fear not! Hell has not frozen over, simply because
a) I am posting
b) I actually have a workout to report
though it is nothing short of a miracle.
Things have been insane lately in getting our house and everything ready for my birthday party. I didn't get any workouts in, but I got a metric ton of NEAT. Which I then negated all of by eating for three days like a pig. Which I then paid for by being sick on Monday. What a week!
Things are finally back to normal-ish and I am beginning to get my act together. I did a 25 min run yesterday, that was apparently very slow, since I calculated the distance after I was done. It felt hard and my heart rate was really up there, so I guess that's all that matters. I only thought to have my HRM after my I was already running and my heart was already pounding. I will have to put it by the door next time so I remember. I had a very excited dog on my hands, so I got out the door as quickly as I could.
Today I hope to get my first Power Training workout in. I spent all this time building a spreadsheet to work from so that I could easily do these workouts, and then I haven't used it yet. I really need to get into a groove now because I have vacation in a week and a half and if I don't have some momentum going into that, I will pig out and probably sink deeper into the mess I'm already in. If I can lose a pound or two before then, then I will do my best not to backslide into that mess. Plus it's going to be eating out three meals a day and intuitive eating the whole time (even though we will be very active with walking around) so I will have to really be mindful about exercise and eating. Wouldn't it be great to go on vacation and actually come back lighter! Imagine that.
If anyone has any suggestions of things I could pack in my suitcase for snacks and/or breakfast items for while we are gone, I would love that. I would really love to take something with me, so I don't feel quite so at the mercy of the airport and the hotel food.
Almonds travel well. I'll be taken some with me to California this weekend. Tuna Pouches are good too.

So I did my first Power Training workout last night and it kicked my booty! Four sets is rough, I gotta say. By the time I was ending my third I was just done - physically and mentally. I'm glad that I started with slightly lighter weights than I thought I could do. It didn't help that my legs were still kind of sore from running on Tuesday.

I'm so so sore today, it's not even funny. Some of it is sore in a good way and some of it is sore in a can't really walk right this is getting old kind of way. I was thinking about taking a little jog today, but since I'm such a slow poke anymore, any jogging is going to be far too difficult so that will only make the situation worse. I also considered Pilates, but that requires a lot of the muscles that are sore, and I have learned my lesson before to not do Pilates the day after you lift. It's hard, it hurts and doesn't help. Perhaps I can do that tomorrow. The only logical thing to do is take a rest day, and to stretch and foam roll. I needs it.
I can't wait to get more lifting done so my shoulders start feeling good again. While I was doing NROL4W I had soooo much less tension and pain in my shoulders than I do when I'm not lifting. I'm not sure how it works, but it does, and I need it right now with all the stress I went through in the last five weeks. My shoulders are so very bad right now, that they tingle and I have a hard time laying on my side to sleep. It's seriously bad, but hopefully a couple more sessions will help. That and some thermacares! Those things are awesome.
Anyhow, I'm doing pretty good with the diet aspect. This has been the hardest push because AF is due this coming week and since I didn't have it last month, this one is setting up to be a doosey. The cravings are awful, I'm hungry all the time, and I've started noticing that I want to eat when I am bored. I have never noticed that before and I don't know if it's something I have always subconciously done or if I've just started doing that in recent years. It might be the afternoon slump/sleepies that also get to me (I def eat more when stressed and tired), or it might just be that I am a mindless eater. Either way, it really really sucks and I'm having a hard time over coming it. I'm drinking tea and chewing sugar free gum, but nothing apparently replaces actually eating. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm totally bored or even partially distracted by something. Nothing seems to overcome this but sheer will power. That, and that I don't really have anything here to eat that I want to much on (ie chocolate). Do any of you have this problem? Does it go away after you get through the initial realization? It's only been a couple of days of realizing it, but it's getting really old.
Nice job on your first PT workout! Where's your bridge work at the end? Too pooped?
Oh, I think I must have missed something!
The book has rotational/bridge as the last option for the 2x a week full body workouts, so I just picked one of the exercises as usual. Maybe I read it wrong? It had been awhile since I went through it, so I really need to re read the parts about what the workouts entail, exactly. I think I was supposed to do a warm up matrix first, as well, but I didn't do that either.
Yep, those planks (bridge work) at the end are KILLER, though I am going for more than the 30-45 secs since I'm really trying to improve my times there. See page 35 or 280....
Yeah, I am just not used to four sets. It's crazy. I used to do 2 sets, just cuz I get bored. Yesterday wasn't so bad because I was trying to recheck the book between exercises, but it was killing me. Maybe I should watch some of the Olympics we have taped just for me (ie volleyball), to help me get through. Listening to music helped, but I guess I have the attention span of a gnat, cuz it doesn't take much to bore me anymore....
I can't wait to start power training - but I don't know if I want to be as sore as you are!!!
LOL you won't be! Look how long it's been since I did a weights workout! You've been at it with NROL4W and everything, so you know what you can do and your body is ready for it. I'm kind of breaking back into it, and I was sore from running, so I had a lot of things going against me. Just make sure you account for how much more effort that extra set is and don't over do it on the first workout, and you will be totally fine.
Did a 30 minute run today. I haven't figured out how far I went, but I'm going to try to not let the distance get me down, because I know it's slow, but a lot of it is uphill. There's a drastic down hill for about 25% of the run and then the rest is slight up hill and one pretty big hill, right in the middle. I feel pretty good about it, though.
Tomorrow, hubby and I are going to check out some treadmills. It will probably be a couple of weeks before we actually get it because next weekend we go to Disney and I doubt we could get it delivered this week and deal with rearranging furniture and such. It doesn't really matter until it starts getting cold/dark early. I can handle the chill, but if it's dark, I don't want to run in my neighborhood. Also, I'm looking to up the NEAT on the slow work days while watching tv.
I've also got to get to the grocery store tomorrow. I'm planning on making some items from Anne and I'm going to be researching some other things to get. I have to try to remember to get some things for the trip as well, but only get enough food for a week. So much to think about
There's a bunch of places that sell fitness equipment in the town that we're going today, but I specifically want to check out the Sole 73 and the Sole 85 that they hopefully sell at Dick's. Also there is a place that sells Precors (but I'd have to get a low end model since they start so high) and another place that sells Life Fitness. I've read good things about all those brands on the treadmill forum at runners world, so it's down to which one feels good to me. I'm excited!
But I have to get the grocery shopping done first and get a shower, so I better get going!
I'm so happy that I bought a treadmill (back when money wasn't an issue). Although I have enjoyed doing my rounds of the pool this summer it's nice to know that weather will not be an excuse not to do my cardio.

And hey, whatcha making?
We did buy the treadmill yesterday! I am very excited. We got a Vision. It was the top one they had there, but I think it's 3rd from the top of their line. I don't think we needed anymore than what we got, though I'm sure DH would have liked the longest deck available; but we got an awesome deal on what was there. The sales guy/manager/only person working the shop was a former Marine and DH had one of his Marine shirts on, so he started chatting, and gave us around $600 off the price
I input everything on their site for the delivery and they should be calling me today. If they can deliver this week, that would be cool, but otherwise it will be the first week of September after we get back from our vacation - which is less than a week away Also, very exciting.
And to answer your question, Anne, I am hoping to make the fruit and nut squares and the blueberry muffins. I bought everything for them yesterday, but then we went TM shopping and when I got home I had no interest in baking. Hopefully tonight. Although, at this point, I'm not sure if I will have time. I need to get a weights workout in and make dinner, so we'll see. I guess it depends on when I can get out of here today!
Jes, I hope you love the treadmill. I'll be reading your progress with the Power Training. Jane's doing so well with it and I love the looks of her workouts, but I'd love to see some of the other options, too.

I hope I do too! I should be doing my second workout tonight, so hopefully I have something post tomorrow
Thanks! I can't wait to get it in the house, although we have a conundrum on our hands...
There's a couch in the basement that I was hoping to relocate upstairs and it won't fit through the damn doorway to get there. It barely got in the house as it is (with the feet taken off and through a window ), so I don't know what we're going to do now. I'm going to be doing a lot of rearranging, I guess, to get this to fit where I want it to go!
On two side notes -
The scale was finally down 2.2 lbs yesterday. I was starting to worry that this deficit wasn't drastic enough since I was going nowheres fast, but I guess it took awhile. I tend to whoosh up and down, so hopefully it will stick. It was still down this morning, so a couple of more days and I will feel good about it. Being in a deficit sucks, but as long as that keeps happening, I will be motivated.
Also, I have found what I believe to be a pretty perfect combo of cream cheese and PB2 to make it peanut buttery. It's 14 grams of CC (I use 1/3 less fat) and 18 grams of PB2. I did almost a full block of CC this weekend because I was getting sick of mixing it. It used the better part of a jar too, but I'm set for awhile. Also, I am able to use around 35 grams and be pretty satisfied and that is only 62 calories! Way better than 35 grams of PB, that's for sure. I have yet to try it in anything else, but I can definitely see that I will be keeping it on hand all the time If you're going to make this, I recommend doing it with a mixer and you have to slowly add a little bit of water to get it to mix fully. The mixer will save you time and trouble and also allow you to use less water so that you get a stronger flavor. The more water you put in the more mousse like it gets, which isn't a bad thing, it's just not what I was going for.
Monday night I did get a Power Training workout in, but it happened kinda late in the day. My best friend called because she was upset about spilling bleach on a quilt she had made and we talked for over an hour. I got to the workout late, so I got to dinner late, so I didn't make muffins or anything extra.
Also, yesterday SUCKED! I finally got AF after not having it last month and I am paying royally. I was so queasy and in pain and miserable, I didn't know what to do with myself. Also, yesterday was my Grandmother's birthday and she passed away right before Christmas last year, so that was REALLY hard. I was just bummed all day. I just got home and totally vegged. Again, didn't make anything but dinner and didn't track anything after I left from work. I know I didn't go over, but my carbs were through the roof and my protein and fats were way down. And I don't care. I'm back on it today, and I'm feeling much better.
The weather this month has been absolutely stunning. August in DC is generally a disgusting, sticky month full of sweating and misery, but this year, that hasn't been so. I am hoping to make time to go on a run tonight, because it is just beautiful out there. If I didn't have to come to work today, I think I would have ran when I normally leave, which is pretty late in the day for a summer run. It's that amazing right now. August is the reason a lot of people around here don't like to do Fall Marathons, because that's when you're really ramping it up, and you have to do your runs at 5 am or 9 pm, which is rough if you're doing a 16 miler! This year, people have been lucky, too bad I'm not training!
Anyhow, my workout is below. I see now what I did and why I got confused with the rotational vs. bridge work on the last workout. My spreadsheet is a little jacked right now, but I brought my book so I can work on it. Of course, with me leaving on Sunday, I will be hard pressed to get another workout in before I leave, with everything I need to do, but I will strive for Saturday and either way, if I don't get it in, at least I will have it ready for when I get back from my trip.
Also, the treadmill is scheduled for delivery and install on September 3rd! Yay! I'm so excited. I will be really ready to make September a great month when I get back from vacation. August has been busy and rough and I took my pics on August 4th but didn't really get into it until the 11th. Now I have to take them early before I leave or I won't be able to post them, so there isn't going to be much change between the pics. My goal is to make the next set all that much better. I think I can do it

All I have to say about this workout is that since I haven't been doing Pilates this month, my stomach must be really waning because those planks felt impossible! I really need to get back to that, and since I won't have weights with me at the hotel (potentially - it is a military hotel and I would think it's got to have a good workout facility - but you never know with these kinds of things!) I will bring my Pilates videos and such and try to get some of those workouts in.
Sorry you had a crappy day yesterday, but great job getting the workout in!
Thanks! As hard as it is to comprehend for me sometimes, I have to remember that everything in life is better when I can get a workout in (as long as I don't stress myself out about getting it in!) than when I don't.

Yeah, I think DH is excited too. He seems really interested in using it, which is cool, because then it won't be MY treadmill that's taking up the space!
Hey way to be consistent despite all of "life's" complications and emotions. You are going to love the tready though I hardly have used mine at all the past year. As I get more fit I just bundle up and run outdoors even in the winter months. I know... Crazy.....

The BIGGER I get the smaller you look
After all this talk in Ginger's log about inspiration pics and the like, I have decided to post some of mine. This is where I'd like to be someday - no matter how unrealistic
(I have done everything to scale this pics down from being so big, and nothing's working - I can't figure it out and I don't usually have issues with images! wtf???)
She looks so sweet and innocent there, but she dragged me all over the place last night. We have a hard time understanding the difference between walking and a run. She wants to stop at every tree, telephone poll, fire hydrant, etc. We got a female to avoid all that kind of stuff, but she's a tomboy, what can I say.
Anyhow, went around 2.4 miles in 30 mins. I'm not setting any records, but I'm ok with the speed because a lot of it is a big uphill or a gentle uphill slope. I should really run the path in the other direction and see what happens. That might make my brain hurt though
What I really want to do is run three miles flat on a track, just to see how long it would take. My fave distance has always been four miles, and I used to run that in around 40-45 mins around 3 times a week. Then I would do a couple of "rest" runs that were 2 ish miles and then one long, slow one for about 5 miles. Depending on the week I would get around 16-20 miles in and that just pealed the weight off. If I could get back to running that much again, and keep up the lifting, I'd get to goal weight in no time fast, especially when you consider how poorly I was eating when I was running like that. It will take some time to build up the endurance to do that again, but it's a good goal, I think. Especially this time of year when the running weather is getting better and better. And when it's not good, I will have a Treadmill!
I love running, but I am so slow... and it kills my old knees, so I don't do it anymore. I do like doing some jog/walk intervals on the tmill (jog 1 min at a time) just cuz it's so great for cardio... I ran outside once (forced myself to walk every few minutes) this summer, but in general - I'm just not built for it!
Which is sad, cuz DH is training for his 2nd marathon and my DS joined the cross-country team and loves it, plus DD plays soccer and can run like the wind... sigh...

I HIGHLY reccommend Craig's list, depending on where you live. Right now I'm looking for some PowerBlocks 5-50 or 5-45#
Recently I got a good basic fairly new Schwinn upright exercise bike for 1/3 to 1/4 the price of new.
