I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot. This is the first of the three new lunches I worked on last weekend. The others should follow tomorrow and Friday. Served with a side of roasted veggies, this lunch is 356 cals (33g protein, 13g fat, 33g carbs, 10g fiber).
(I add an apple, which actually bring the macros to 28P, 28F, 42C)
This looks sooooooooooooo awesome!!! Thanks for posting the link to your recipe site. I'll be perusing it later this evening!!!

Well, my friends are gone (that's the good thing about weeknight dinners), so I'll get this posted. We usually do this on a weekend (around the long holiday) and usually on the patio. Schedules just didn't allow for it this time, so rather than put it off we did it mid-week. This kept the time much shorter than it usually goes, but it was still nice. Now I need to go to sleep so I can get up early and get going with the plant buying!
Breakfast: cherry pecan bread (last piece), jam, orange (284)
AM Snack: protein shake, almonds (299)
Lunch: sausage and lentil soup, almonds, apple (406)
PM Snack: protein shake, soy nuts (269)
Dinner: pisco sours, bbq spare ribs, corn, butter, salad w/dressing (1289)
Late Snack: protein shake (135)
Okay, so not the most balanced of days, but still within the macro and calorie range. Of course that's because I really only count the protein for my goal. I made a cherry/yogurt sorbet for dessert, but decided to skip it and make my friends finish it off.

My original plan was to add something as soon as I'd made it, or decided I liked it. I've let the concept lapse a little, but I'm hoping to play catch up a little over the next few weeks.
I promise, only one more tomorrow and that's the three of them. It only passed the one carnivore seal of approval (ie. the fussy cat wouldn't eat it). I realize that they may not be happy with the new lunches. With the luncheon meat they always got the extra bit (ie. if I'd allowed for 3oz and it was 3.5oz they got the .5 oz). This doesn't work out so well for them. With the side of veggies the meal is 344 cals (36g protein, 10g fat, 27g carbs, 9g fiber).
So the concept of getting my body fat tested by a bod pod somewhere around here is pretty much a bust. Although interested, at the moment there's not much I can do about it. There is possibly one university that will do it, but they don't seem to respond to emails and/or voice mails. Having said that it's enough of a drive that I didn't push it all that much. At this point I simply know it's horrible. Later on I may pursue it again. It's technically into summer for universities so it may be a staffing issue (or lack of interest).
I have been given a Tanita scale (BC-534) from someone whose spouse bought it and looks like never used it. It's a horribly long story (they are no longer together), but it is now in my possession.
I suppose over the next few days I'll find out if there is any point to using it to track trends. Although perhaps a running average might be more appropriate. Any thoughts on what might be best? I'm thinking 7 or 14 days. I actually think it's kind of funny reading when you should/shouldn't take measurements.
"It is best to take measurements at the same time of day. Try to wait about three hours after rising, eating, or hard exercise before taking measurements."
"Eating large meals, drinking alcohol, menstruation, illness, exercising, and bathing may also cause variations in your hydration levels."
I snipped a lot out, but they recommend taking it before your evening meal. I suspect in the end I'll try this for a while, however, things like afternoon workouts, swimming and late snacks will likely make it vary quite a bit. In the end I'm thinking perhaps before I go to bed might be more consistent (as I eat pretty much the same time every night), and I won't freak out if it's a higher weight. From what I see it's likely more important to be consistent.
Of course, my period started sometime this afternoon, so all bets are off.
So I got a weight of 309 (higher than this morning, but within half a pound of the other scale), body fat of 53.4% and a hydration level of 34.8% (which I understand is normal when obese, that the number is lower). The other number it gives is bone mass (which I believe is simply an approximation) of 7.2 pounds. So, I'm working out the numbers here.
Total Weight:
309.0
Body Fat:
165.0
53.4%
Body Water:
107.5
34.8%
Bone Mass:
7.2
Remainder:
29.3
So what's the remainder? Just had to ask.
To be fair, it was very consistent no matter what option I chose (inactive, moderately active, athlete), and was quite repeatable. After saying I was consistent about evening meals I just realized that I've missed the time I usually eat at, so off I go.
(To be honest, I really thought the % fat would be higher.)
Added - okay I just realized (silly me) that fat has water as well, so the numbers are not independent. So I'm assuming here that a simple LBM calculation would be 309 - 165 = 144 (correct?)
Food porn!!!! Excellent!!! The eye of round roast looks YUMMY!
It was very nice. The only issue I have with roasts done in the crock pot is that they are almost impossible to serve right away. They are often so soft that they shred rather than slice. Even refrigerated overnight and cut in half (to make slicing easier) the roast still had a tendency to fall apart. However, it was lovely and tender, and very moist.
So today I bought way too many plants today. And I'm not kidding when I say that. I'm hoping though that I'm done, and won't have to go back for more. I chickened out tonight and left them in the garage. I think my priority over the next few days is to get them planted. I suspect this is going to upset my planned exercising, but hopefully by Monday I'll be back to a more normal routine. The stuff grown from seed this year is past ready to go out. This is my fault though since I used a planting mix that I realized partway into the transplanting was likely not meat for seedlings. At least not in our basement (which seems to run to the damp side, or maybe just this winter it did). If I'm going to be up early tomorrow I should get to bed, ummm, like now.
Food for the day:
Total: 2144 (26% fat, 35% carbs, 37% protein)
Breakfast: chocolate pecan bread, jam, orange (259)
AM Snack: protein shake, almonds (299)
Lunch: eye of round roast, roasted veggies, apple (426)
PM Snack: protein shake, soy nuts (314)
Dinner: bbq spare ribs (leftovers-finished), snow peas, butter, salad w/dressing (529)
Late Snack: fruit salad, biscotti, protein shake (318)
LOL!!! I always do that when I plant shop. Way too many and I hate them by the time I am done getting them into the ground.
If you keep your hydration level the same every day I bet that device is pretty consistent for your trends. TOM doesn't really seem to play a big factor with my Ormon.

Yes, that's me completely (about the plants). I've even tried to be more prepared this year. All the pots (except one) are all together on the patio. I'll move them into position once planted Although I suspect I will hate them later today.
I decided to stick with the morning weigh in. I'm just used to it at that time of day, and I suspect it's my most consistent hydration level. Other days it will vary too much. So although I'm 4 pounds lighter than yesterday's during the day weigh-in (not a surprise) I'm up to 54.9% body fat. Oh well, nowhere to go but down I suppose.
This is the last of the three lunches. I suspect I might look for more of a recipe next time (not just BBQ sauce and a few added items). However it did work out very well. Between the three items I won't have to do anything other than roast veggies every three days or so until about mid-July. Probably longer as I'll likely still have lunch meat once a week (as my mother will still be buying it for herself).
I have YET to buy a single plant this year!!! Very unusual for me, but we've been so busy with our "toys" (camper and motorcycles) that I just haven't had the time to dig in the dirt!!

This is late for us here. Usually I'll break down and buy things earlier, but the weather has been only mediocre, so I made myself wait. I had hoped to get more done but I have to stop as I need to run an errand and pick my mother up at the train station. I definitely need a shower first! I stopped at one point and put on some SPF 15 on my arms and back... although I think it was a little late. I usually never use it but I know I should. I did put some on my face, so after 40-odd years I'm getting better at it.

I roast a triple batch at once, divide them up, and just leave them in the fridge for the second and third days. They aren't quite as nice as the first day, but for the time savings I'm willing to put up with it. These last two days I reheated them while heating up the meat. However, they are just as nice cold. I do splash on a little balsamic vinegar, although just before serving.
I'm truly a sad person. Yes, on the way to the train station... I bought more plants. To be fair I know that I will be out of the ones I have before the pots are full, so it was a necessary purchase. And, dammit, I found a zucchini plant when I was there. It's not that I really dislike it. No, it's the sudden jump to super squash after a couple of days of rain (and therefore, not checking them daily). This invariably starts the cycle of zucchini bread and the dreaded (but tasty) chocolate zucchini cake. It's probably the best chocolate cake I've ever had. I should probably look out the recipes now and figure out the best acceptable way to make it. Better to be prepared, right?
Although I didn't log it, and the watch unit isn't handy, I did wear the HRM this morning for a while. I took it off at lunch when I realized that I was getting to get a stripe around my wrist. The basic data showed between 250 and 300 cals per hour, depending on tasks. Carrying stuff upstairs, and lifting pots and moving them to the other end of the yard was obviously the higher hour. I'm not really using that info for anything, was just curious. Of course sitting on my ass at the desk would probably generate at least half that number, but still better for me. I'm hoping to get the bulk of the planting done tomorrow and Sunday. No matter though, Monday I'm going back to my regularly scheduled exercise routine.

I haven't bought any plants yet but I think I'm going to go nuts this coming week. I drove by the farmer's market on the way home from work yesterday and everything looked so beautiful!
I made your spicy meatloaf last night and it was delicious! I love the single serving concept too. Of course I wanted a bit more when I was done, but since it was all pre-portioned it was easy to say no.

Glad you enjoyed it. For me the single serving stuff is key. I'm just not able to make a big batch of something and pick a reasonable serving size. Knowing that I have single portions (or double ones as I usually cook for two) keeps me well on track. Right now I'm doing a lot of dividing of raw meat, but at certain times of year I'll store fully cooked items (chili, meat sauce, stew, curries). It helps me a lot. Even when making a roast or stew I never eat it the night I make it now. I let it cool, divide it up, and then eat my portions as I've decided.
Well, I’m down to 13 pots left to plant (and perhaps a couple in the crawlspace). I will have to make one last trip to the garden center tomorrow, but only for a very few things. I’d love to have everything done tomorrow, but even just having the planting done will be a good thing. It will allow me to get back to my usual routine on Monday. I’ll take some pictures of most of the planted pots tomorrow before moving them into their final locations.
Food for the day:
Total: 2150 (30% fat, 36% carbs, 33% protein)
Breakfast: lemon ginger pecan bread, jam, fruit salad (263)
AM Snack: protein shake (135)
Lunch: turkey meatloaf with salsa, roasted veggies, apple (438)
PM Snack: protein shake (135)
Dinner: hamburgers(2), BBQ onions, snow peas, butter, salad w/dressing (818)
Late Snack: fruit salad, biscotti, protein shake (361)
However, this is the last time the pots will all be together in the one place. Some of the pots are already in place, as well as the hanging baskets. There are still a few things to come out of the crawlspace and everything has to be moved around. It might be days before I get it just the way I want it (or I may simply stop at the end of the day).
I suspect nobody here needs to be convinced. I was just adding this to my diet blog and thought I might as well add it here. This is a visual form of the men's health idea of 'eat this, not that'. Although I don't really agree with the choices they've given it's a really good visual how you can eat more food by making better choices. It might be something worth repeating with even better choices.
Okay, I found two things to compare side by side. I used to love sausage and egg mcmuffins (although I never ate one, and usually added hash browns). I looked it up - 440 cals (26g fat, 32g carbs, 20g protein). I went back and looked at a picture of a breakfast I had taken back in April. It's 445 calories (18g fat, 43g carbs, 30g protein) - and much more satisfying than a single sausage mcmuffin. The composition of the breakfast is 1/2 cup egg whites mixed with 1 large egg, 1 tsp butter, 3/4 ounce of cheese blend, 2Tb ketchup (my vice) a medium orange, a small piece of pecan cherry bread and a 1/2 Tb of jam.
I love plants but I kill them...definitely not a skill of mine. My husband is great with plants - can coax even the reluctant to thrive but he does not enjoy working with them or spending money on them, etc. So my yard is sad...and I am sad with no flowers. I get some cut ones now and again just to have some color about the house anyway. I can't kill those; they are already dead.

You know I'm pretty bad with indoor plants, but I seem to do okay with outdoor ones. I really can't figure out why. I know that with outdoor plants (where we put them) I pretty much have to water them daily. So perhaps I'm just better with a routine. Usually my issue with indoor ones is that I forget to water them, then drown them (as if when they've started to droop that a lot of water will help).
My mother is much better with overall maintenance, so she can occasionally be counted on to nag me when it's time to trim them back and such.
I warmed up with a 15-min walk on the treadmill. Then I did:
A: Wide-grip Deadlift from Box - 55t/10, 60t/10 B1: Bulgarian Split Squat - 10t/10, 15t/10 B2: Underhand-grip Lat Pulldown (Pullover) - 25e/10, 27.5e/10 C1: Reverse Lunge from Box with Forward Reach - 5e/10, 7.5e/10 C2: Dumbbell Prone Cuban Snatch - 7.5e/10, 10e/10 D1: Swiss Ball Crunch (Long-arm) - 10, 10 D2: Reverse Crunch - 10, 10 D3: Lateral Flexion (Hannah side 1) - 10, 10 E: Prone Cobra - 90sec, 90sec
And then I did the HIIT. Finished up with a slightly longer recovery to end the session at 70mins. As the last time, I was kind of aiming for 75 mins, but I knew I wasn't going to make it. I feel like I should be going faster during the 'all out' portion of the HIIT, but then I looked at the HRM data afterwards and decided maybe it was fast enough.
HRM: 596cals, Max: 176 (99%), Avg: 126 (71%)
I think it's likely time to turn the AC on. The basement still feels cooler (compared to the rest of the house) but I really noticed the temperature difference during my warm up. The storm we were supposed to get hasn't come yet so I think maybe it's time to go out and have a swim.
Just adding the food in for the day. Oh, and yay, we decided to turn on the AC after we realised that the temp in the house was 27C (~81F). I'm sore, but more tired than anything else. So a good night's sleep is in order.
Food for the day:

Today could have easily been a lazy day. It was also quite cold outside this morning, although I did start my walking outside around the pool. I just couldn't push past the 20-min mark, so I did two sets and then came in and finished the last set inside. Then I felt lazy so I did another 20-mins outside in the afternoon before my swim. I also started the daily watering process, which took about 40 mins. I suspect when it gets hot out this will be up to an hour each day. I've been watering with a watering can though (last year I would rush 'round with the hose, but the can is better).
So once I figure out what I'm going to eat tomorrow I think I'll head to sleep. I have to be well rested so I can spend time outside tomorrow. Otherwise the cats will be unhappy. Yes, my two house cats have become quite the patio/backyard types. It was really quite funny this afternoon. One of them (little one) suddenly came running around the corner and back into the house (we leave the patio door open slightly because he freaks out if it's closed). My mother was in the crawlspace at the time and it became apparent that his rush was to get to his litter box. Yes, the cat was rushing in... to use his box! Yep, definitely an indoor cat.

LOL on the cat. Mine actually gets so used to using outside that when winter starts he yeowls at the door to go outside until he gets the point that he isn't going to be let out all day long and will finally use the box. Aren't they wonderful creatures?

They are quite wonderful creatures though. I do miss the dog (last one border collie) but we just don't have a yard for one anymore. Even the cats aren't left in it alone because of the pool. The big one has discovered the joys of drinking out of it (and chasing leaves that float by). He's not the brightest bulb in the pack so I'm waiting to find out if cats can swim.
Oh well, I should go out and take the covers off the vegetables. We has a quite cold night last night 3C (37F) forecast so out came the sheets.
