I'm looking at just the ACE cert to start with. It seems like a lot of places out here recognize that one. Once I do that and get myself going, I'm looking at some others as well.
Oh! I forgot to mention it...I applied for school again and I have an appointment with an advisor on Monday. I'm really excited. I also ordered some study material to get certified as a Personal Trainer. I figure that I need to do something while I'm back in school--and something that I enjoy, and once I finish and become a certified teacher, I'll probably need something on the side...teachers don't make much...so, why not training? Especially since the schedule would be pretty flexible. Perfect for school and teaching.
Hey, I'm thinking of doing exactly the same thing! I need to go back to school to round up some credits but I figure I can work as a personal trainer so I am not a total drain. : )
What certification are you thinking of? I think I'm going with NASM.
Oh, ha ha....Bytsi asked the same question and you already answered...that's what I get for leaving the thread up for hours before replying...: )
I looked at NASM too.
I've been thinking about getting certified for a while, even before losing my job. It seems like the ideal time. Especially with school.
So are you choosing ACE for any particular reason? I've been trying to figure out how the content differs with the different programs. I understand that it's just a matter of getting a reputable certification, and ACE, NASM definitely fit into that category--but is there a different emphasis? I dunno. What's driving your decision?
Hey Christina...very cool about the trainer certification! Its something that always lingers in the back of my mind as an interest and possibly a career option someday.

I don't know if there's a difference in emphasis or not. I choose ACE because it's widely recognized, and a trainer here recommended it. He also mentioned NASM and one other. I don't remember the other one off the top of my head though.

Thanks. Yeah, it was something that was in the back of my mind for a while too. Now it's towards the front...
Well, I did some digging Wednesday. It was insane. But, we now have three steps in the backyard. It's such a mess.
Thursday I helped install an art exhibit, which involved a lot of heavy moving pedistals. It's super cool though! The exhibit is models of dinosaurs. There are two that are hand feathered that you can "pet"; it represents how dinosaurs actually felt. Plus, they're so beautiful! The opening is next weekend. I'll take some pictures then.

Hey, what are you doing? I need to terrace my back yard and I'm actually in the middle of putting together a wheelbarrow so I can get rolling on it. Ha ha. Unintended bad pun. That slope you've got is pretty close to what my back lawn looks like.
I had dug a terrace a couple of years ago, hit an ancient pipe system and got demoralized. I have to get it going again. Maybe I"ll get inspired if I see some other digging projects. : )
Ha. Glad we're not the only ones digging. We're uncovering the stairs, then we're going to make the yard tri-level. I'm not too sure how we're going to do it yet, but there's talk of a couple of walls, a patio, and a garden. Today, we're waiting for the snow to melt and the yard to become less of a mud-pit. So, really, we'll get started again next week.
I had some workouts in there over the last week. I'm not feeling super-great. And on top of that, today is art-opening day.
How did the school application thing go? That's great on the training cert. It's a wonderful plan. Your digging project is coming along well. Our yard is sloped in the front and backyard. I've always dreamed of terracing or a wall to make the front more usable, but we haven't done anything to date.
Hi Pauline.
The school stuff is going well. I went to an admissions meeting last week, and am on campus today trying to find out what classes I need to take in addition to the education ed stuff. I'm seriously considering taking Spanish amongst other things.
My cousin was in town last week, so I didn't get too much done in the gym, which is ok. I'm still trucking along with everything though. Not too much progress in the weight department this month though.
That's great, Christina. I love language classes. When will school actually start? Summer or fall? Sounds like you had a great visit with your cousin. I have no excuses for my recent gym lapses. I am back on track again, though.

Glad to hear your back on track. I had a few lapses too. It's funny, I feel like I'm doing not much of anything getting ready for school again, yet I'm constantly running around.
I think I'm going to take a class in the summer and then start full-time in the fall. I'm meeting with my advisors on Tuesday and will have a better idea then.

I love going to school. Even when I was working full-time, I'd take classes here and there just for the heck of it.
Hey Christina, lots going on in here, congrats on hanging in there during a couple of rough months! You do look great, even though you haven't had as much progress as you'd like.
