I don't know how you do it on a daily basis Jane. One day and I'm already beyond frustrated.

Quote:
5 Rounds:
15 Kettlebell Swings (with a DB instead because there aren't any KBs here--I think it'll work)
15 Situps
15 Back Extensions
15 Knees to Elbows (hanging leg lift)
Did it...5 Rounds. Here's what happened:
KB Swings: I used a 25lbs DB. It worked out prety good. A little strange feeling vs. the KB, but do-able.
Situps: Nothing much to say about them.
Back Extensions: Nothing much to say.
Knees to Elbows: I only managed sets of 10 of these. And I'm not sure that my knees ever touched my elbows. They kind of turned into hanging leg raises. What was it my trainer said about my core? Ugh.

Looks good to me!!!

I know what you mean about kb vs db - I've subbed db for kb stuff before and it works, but it's just not the same...

Bytsi, that was a fun workout! I really liked it a lot. Thanks

Thanks Bree.

Ugh. Today is not going smoothly. On the up side though, I had a good hour where I couldn't work, so I went to the gym.
I did somewhat Strength I A again...
Squats:
6 @ 85lbs
1 @ 105lbs
6 @ 95lbs
1 @ 115lbs
10 @ 85lbs
12 @ 75lbs

Superset no rest:
Bulgarian Split Squats: 3 sets 6 w/15e
Step Ups: 3 sets 8 BW

Planks:
2 regular for 45 seconds each
1 each side for 30 seconds each

A few notes:
1. I say I somewhat did it because instead of planks, I was supposed to do supersets of sit ups and back extensions. Since I did those yesterday, I thought I'd switch things up.
2. It's been a very long time since I've done back squats. I should keep doing these. I really like them even though I couldn't get the weight right. I started way too light.
3. Yup, still hate BSS and Step Ups. I don't think this will ever go away.

Sorry that you have to work on the weekend, that kind of sucks. My field is quality, but in a manufacturing environment. Most of the time I did enjoy it though, but in the end I was more interested on the actual process.

Thanks Anne, it does suck. My normal field is business analysis and technical writing, but I jumped over for the week to help out before our release. It hasn't been the most fun.

Before coming in this morning, I went to the gym again. I'm working on directing my many frustrations in a positive direction instead of glaring at everyone at the office. Here's what I did:
Superset-
Bench Presses:
6 @ 70lbs
1 @ 90lbs
6 @ 70lbs
1 @ 85lbs
10 @ 55lbs
Barbell Bent Over Row:
6 @ 80lbs
1 @ 100lbs
6 @ 80lbs
1 @ 100lbs
11 @ 75 lbs

Superset-
Wide Grip Lat Pulldowns
8 @ 100lbs
6 @ 100lbs
DB Shoulder Press
8 @ 20lbs
7 @ 22.5lbs

Lower Body Russian Twists:
2 sets 10 each side

Then I went to brunch with BF; I was stalling on getting to the office. And, now I'm here, I'm clearly still stalling...I should get to work.

I feel like I was just hit by a truck. I thought I was being good by attempting to get a small workout in, but, I was wrong...

I was going to do 3 rounds for time of:
25 DB deadlifts to high pulls (15lbs e)
10 Burpees
200meter run

I managed to get about 100m into the 2nd 200m run when the truck hit. So, I slowed down my run and thought that I'd finish out the last round without worrying about time. I dropped the weight on the DL to high pulls to 10lbs e, did the 25 and just crashed. No additional set of burpees, no more running--instead I sat in the middle of the floor. After a few minutes, I did manage to get some stretching in before coming back upstairs.

I think the weekend of working just caught up with me. I'm exhausted! I've got two more meetings, then I'm going to go home and relax (what a novel idea!). BF is teaching tonight until about 6:30; I'm going to make him bring me dinner of some sort so that I can stay on the couch. Tomorrow, I'll take a full rest day, and then Wednesday I'll meet with my trainer.

Get some rest. Definitely. Your body sent you a very clear message. And you listened - at least you didn't force yourself to finish at any cost. Rest. It does a body good.

Thanks all. Rest is an amazing thing! Last night didn't go exactly as I planned; I ended up staying at the office much longer than I wanted to. Then I missed the last bus to the train station, so I had to walk it (it's only a mile, but still, I was tired). When I finally made it home, dinner was there (YAY! Green peppers and beef stir fry. Yum) and the new neighbor was moving in--loudly! They were still moving at 10 when I moved from the couch to the bed. I was certain that they were going to keep me up all night, but, nope. I was out by the time my head hit the pillow.
After all the crazy though, I managed to get a great night sleep and I feel really good today. I'm still taking a rest day and will continue to take it easy today so that I can kick ass tomorrow.

I hope their nice too. I didn't really get the chance to talk to them last night.

Well, I just ate my allotted calories for the day in one sitting. I went to lunch with the developers today, and had just the most enormous/amazing burger. It was 1/3lbs beef (after cooking) with goat cheese, pineapple, and roasted green chilis. Holy crap it was good. It came on a bun but was way too tall for me to be able to bite into, so I ditched the bun and just ate the burger and goodies part. Oh, yeah, and I had some fries and onion rings. I have a feeling that I'm not going to be feeling so well later...But dang it was good! Back on the wagon tomorrow. Today's a total wash.

Just stopping by to say hi. The burger sounds wonderful and since you haven't been eating all your calories in one sitting every day, I bet it won't totally ruin things in the long run.

Hi Karen. I'm not too worried about it. I'm calling it a refeed day, since I haven't had one in two weeks...Plus, it was really good. The only problem is, now I smell like a giant burger.

2. Somewhere around 10 minute in, the push-ups became really hard, and I started doing them on my knees.
3. I think I did this too close to lunch, because about 15 minutes in I started getting side cramps, which considerably slowed me down.

All that said, it really got my heart rate up, and the runners were giving me funny looks (that's typical for the cardio room though).

I think that if it weren't for the side cramps slowing me down, I may have dropped from it. It was tough!
Ahhh...you did 'Cindy'. My max was 17 rounds, but I can't do pull ups (I'd do a bw angle row. If I was doing actual ones, my rounds would probably be 5! LOL), so you did really well. It's a good benchmark WOD to do, so try it again in a month or so and see if you can eek out more rounds. I bet you will!

My gym doesn't have KBs either, so anytime we do swings it's with DBs. I don't mind doing swings with them, but as the weight increases, so do the plates (I guess that's what you call them) and I have small hands. I'm always thinking that one of these days it's gonna go flying out of my hands! I have a KB at home and I agree, it's a totally different swing.

And you're definitely getting the cardio in with something like Cindy.

Glad you're feeling better and good job on enjoying the burger! A little burgerfest here and there through life can't be counted as a completely bad thing.

I'll definitely try Cindy again in a few months. That's a great idea. I think the goal would be to increase the number of pullups I was able to eek out. I was sweating a lot by the time I finished.

No, it wasn't a bad thing at all. Except for maybe the rock-in-the-gut feeling it left me with...

Last night I worked out with the trainer. Ouch! I'm not sure if this is all in the correct order, but here's what we did...

Superset-2 sets:
10 Wide grip bench press (about 3-5 inches wider than shoulder-width) @ 65lbs
10 Wide pushups (again, hands about 3-5 inches wider than shoulder-width)

Superset-2 sets:
12 Soccer Thow Ins w/9lb medicine ball
10 Progression hand stand pushups (feet on a bench, body in a pike position--read as butt way up high in the air!--and pushup.)

30 seconds Mountain Climbers (hands on bench, butt low for a change, and scissor jump-wide stance)

10 Situps w/medicine ball toss (9lbs)

6 knees to chest w/feet on bosu ball, hands on medicine ball--get in pike position and bring a foot into your chest, rounding back.

10 medicing ball tosses (9lbs)

10 chest flies w/pully thing (20lbs)

2 sets 15 standing lat pulldowns (10 @ 20lbs + 5 @ 37.5lbs)--stand behind the seat on the lat pulldown station, with straight arms pull down.

2 sets 10 Rows (40lbs, 5 @ 60lbs+5 @ 50lbs)

1 minute bent over row w/reverse grip (30lb bar)

1 minute tricep pushups

1 minute tricep pulldowns (50lbs)

2 sets setups w/bicep curls 1 set 10 each leg w/12lbs, 2nd set 6 each leg w/12lbs followed by holding the DBs w/arms at 90 degree angle and rotating arms in and out for 10 seconds

10 straight-leg leg lifts
10 oblique leg lifts each side
Hold legs in pike position for 10 seconds

Today, I had a hard time washing my hair. And, I feel like someone punched me in the stomach. Great workout! I felt bad going in because I took half the day off work (needed it!) and laid around the house for a very long time. So, I was afraid that my laziness would carry over. And I think it did a little, but I still pushed it.

Thought I would stick my head in here to say hello...
Geez, I wish you would come to my gym and work out. Why is it that no one I ever see at the gym does anything remotely challenging like this? I always feel like a circus freak. I guess I must go to the wrong gym.
Are you doing any particular program now?

Hey. Thanks for popping by.
I can't say that I see too many other people at the gym I go to are doing things like this. And I do get some funny looks...but having a trainer standing next to you while doing it seems to help.

Right now I'm doing a mish-mash of programs...Two days a week I do NROL Strength I (either Friday and Sunday or Saturday and Sunday).
Wednesdays I do some insanity workout with my trainer.
And then two times a week I try to do a CrossFit Workout of the Day (Monday and Friday or Monday and Saturday depending on the strength days). I pick and choose the CrossFit workouts to make sure that it's something cardio-filled.
Tuesdays and Thursdays I sit on my butt and recover (ok, really I play with the dog instead of sitting, but you get the idea).

I'm doing the mish-mash because I was getting really bored and unmotivated sticking to just one thing. Switching things up like this keeps it really interesting...

I have no idea how I remember it. I can't always remember the order or the weights I'm using, but it's the general idea that counts. I'm going to ask my trainer for a copy of each of the workouts so that I know what I did and can continue to do this craziness after my sessions are over.
I'm over the punched in the gut feeling; the soreness, however, seems to be moving up into my shoulders and chest. I suppose that was bound to happen!

So, stress really seems to be messing with my body. I've been eating pretty darn good, getting enough water, but am still way bloated and up 3.5-4lbs. Today is the first day in a couple of weeks that I'm not feeling totally bogged down, so hopefully the stress will defuse and my body will get back to normal.

It's probably a good idea, for no other reason that to track your progress. No matter though, it looks like you're having fun!

I love mixing stuff up too but I don't have a brain in my head for remembering exercises. Plus I'm very visual so it can't be explained to me, I really have to see it. And, when I'm in the thick of it, my lizard brain takes over so I have to have a piece of paper to check off what i've done or I will forget.

Sounds like a great trainer. I may have to become a trainer myself to be able to afford/justify getting one myself!

I need a trainer to stand by me so I look all official, I guess. : ) The trainers at my gym are generally useless and just have people do circus tricks with pink dumbbells. It's mind boggling that people pay money for that.

I usually write everything down when I get to the car after working with the trainer. I forgot to the other night. As for everything else, I walk around with a piece of paper and a pencil so that I can keep myself in check. When I first started, I also took photo-copies of the exercise descriptions so that I knew what I was doing.

There's a guy in my office who goes for training and ended up running for an hour. After the first time, I asked him why he was paying to run. That's something that you can do on your own. He finally wised-up and got the trainer to do weights with him. I still don't think he's lifting heavy enough though.

Sounds like things are going great in here, Christina. What a great idea to mix things up so you don't get bored. I'm scaling back to 3 lifting workouts a week using Built for Show for the moment.
