I'm just giggling reading your log, including quacky workouts and backwards O/H squats! I don't know how I missed so many days, I'm so far behind on logs in general! So let's see--great job on the weight loss, jealous of the kettlebell training (and the CF WOD), and...hope you had a restful rest day!
Have fun out tonight, and yes, enjoy REST tomorrow.

Just two days to kettlebells! Can you tell I'm excited?

Wow! Yes I did! I laid on the couch most of the day and watch really bad movies while fighting the urge to sleep.
No napping because there was a slight chance that I had a concussion. I'm pretty sure that I don't, but, well, no one wins in a head butt. I was playing with the dog Saturday morning and as I was bending down to get the squeaky toy, she jumped up towards my head. I had a huge red lump for a while; it's gone down, but I still have a bit of a dull headache.
After all that, I did make it to the gym Sunday. I combined CF WODs again and did two in one day.
Hanging Cleans 7x1:
75, 80, 85, 85, 85, 85, 85
I tried 90 in there once, but didn't quite make it, so I stuck with 85lbs.
Supersets, no rest between sets:
10 sit ups
10 back extensions
30 Barbell Push Presses 45lbs
10 assisted pullups
20 sit ups
15 back extensions
20 Barbell Push Presses 45lbs
10 assisted pullups
30 sit ups
18 back extensions
10 Barbell Push Presses 45lbs
10 assisted pullups
I'll probably do Saturday's proposed workout at lunch today--10k run, although I doubt I'll do the full 10k.
Goals for this week:
1. Continue focusing on water on weekends--I did really good Sunday with this, but Saturday was just bad.
2. Get better at weekend eating--I'm falling into bad habits on weekends with my eating. There's a lot of processed foods on the menu.
3. Start working on pushups again. I'm not sure when I got bad at these again, but wow...I could use some work.
4. Maintain in the 135s if not dip into 134s.
So, instead of the 10k run, I opted for 20 minutes of HIIT. 90 seconds walking @ 3.5mph, 90 seconds running @ 6.3mph. I haven't done HIIT in a very long time. I forgot how much I prefer it to just steady state running.
Hope you're feeling better now and the headache is gone.
Thanks ladies! I'm feeling a little more alert today, although I've still got a bit of a lingering headache. Nothing that's sidelining me anymore (like Saturday!).
I'm still fighting off the last bit of weekend processed, high-sodium foods. I've still got a little bit of water weight hanging around, especially in my mid-section--it's about a pounds worth. I woke up this morning super-thirsty. That tells me I need more water! So, I'm on it.

My mom used to always say, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." You'd think that by now I'd remember that, but nope.
There was a time where the extra pound or two would freak me out; I'm finally in a state of mind where I know it's just water weight and I can correct it, and, if I really wanted to, avoid it. But, when my sister and her husband invite us over for brats and football, well, I'd rather do that than eat my planned salad at home while working. Plus, they have a fire pit and a tv on wheels, so, we roll the tv outside, sit around the fire and watch football. It's really fun! It always involves processed foods of some sort and chips. I actually did good with the chips. BF and I shared a small bowl and then didn't have any more. The superbowl party's at my house this time, so I'll at least control the main course foods, which will likely be blackened chicken. I'll try my best not to wrap it in bacon.
I did a just-get-moving workout today. I ran .5 miles, did 50 sit ups-legs straight out in front instead of bent-and 25 pushups.
For the pushups, I went slowly down (about a 5 second count), paying close attention to where my elbows where in relation to my shoulders, hands and torso. And then powering back up. Last week when I did pushups, my elbows were all over the place. So, this helped. I think I'll do them like this for a while, just to remind myself of form!
I followed it up with about 10 minutes of yoga.
Tomorrow is kettlebell day! Yay! And, I'm guessing Thursday will be a much needed rest day. I like the sound of that too!
I am so wanting kettlebells as of late. I looked into some online and they are not cheap! I am going to ask at the gym to see if they would consider getting some and/or starting a class.
I am doing my best to not freak out about the couple pounds, too. I have to remind myself when I have been spot on with eating that there is no way that weight is fat. Its a mental game!
I totally hear ya on wanting to be social and partake in some fun on the weekends. My family gatherings like that always involve chips/dips/lil smokies/snacks too. I do feel more bloated after eating processed foods now that I don't as much anymore.
Sounds like a great place to watch the game - outdoors! I heard your temps were in the 60's yesterday. Jealous.
Scale's back to normal today. Besides my body reacting more and more to processed foods and sodium, it seems like it's also taking longer to de-bloat lately. Maybe I shouldn't be eating brats? But, dang, they're so good!
Outdoors with the fire pit has been so nice! It's been really warm here lately. Yes, in the upper 60s yesterday (I think it hit 70 downtown at some point) and more of the same today. But, we do have a late-week, weekend front coming in. So, I'm enjoying the warm and looking forward to the snow. Am I conflicted or what!
Bree, talk to your gym. With as popular as kettlebells have become in the last several years, they may consider getting some. I'd imagine that there'd be enough interest. I was so happy when I went into my gym the first of the year to find a rack of shiny, new kettlebells. And even happier when they offered a free clinic to introduce them. And, at my happiest to find that there was a new trainer there that did a lot of work with kettlebells.

So, here it is...my first kettlebell session with the trainer! Last night, we did 1 set each, just to get a feel for the kettlebells, the exercises, and to determine which weights to use. Next week, we'll go full force, and my trainer will kick my butt! Here are the exercises we did:
Double Kettlebell Swing
One Arm Kettlebell Swing
Hanging Cleans
Shoulder Presses
Turkish Get Up
Floor Presses
One Arm Rows, followed by something that didn't involve kettlebells, but is totally worth metioning and doing again...db rows in a plank position. So, pretty much get into a pushup position w/hands on dbs, and row! It was crazy fun!
Push Presses
Seesaw press
RDLs
and finally, I don't remember it's name. But, with feet hip-width apart, bring the kettlebell from your opposite shin to above your shoulder and back down again.
So much fun! Now I can't wait for the kick my butt workout next week.
Since it was just one set of each, I'm not going to take a rest day today, and I'll do the CF WODs from yesterday and today. One is upper body, the other is lower, so, I'll just end up with a full body workout. I'm planning to go to the gym w/BF Friday. I'm going to pretty much just pratice the kettlebell stuff and continue to get used to the feeling. It's totally different from anything else I've ever done, even thought the exercises are very similar. Saturday will be my total rest day again.

I think that about covers it for now.
That sounds more my speed, too--running, I start focusing on how uncomforatable I am . Does HIIT stand for High Intensity Interval Training?

So do you have any thoughts about how using kettlebells compare to other types of workouts/training? Are they easier to handle than dbs? Work your body differently?
And, of course, will they really make you look like this?

HIIT: High Intensity Interval training..yes, that's what it means. And it's so much more pleasant than steady state running! Even the dog agrees (who, by the way, knew something happened by the loud "OUCH!" that came out of my mouth. She ran into the other room and sulked for a while).

(I've been doing a little kettlebell rs.)
HA! I saw that site too. I sure hope it doesn't make me look like that!
As far as kettlebells are conserned, you use a lot more momentum when using them; there's a lot more swing involved and it definitely raises my heart rate quicker than using dumbbells and barbells.
The weight distribution is totally different than DBs, so, even when you're using the same weight, it feels different, almost lighter to me. And, the fact that you're holding onto a handle vs a bar means that the kettlebell moves a lot too. Getting used to that's going to take a while. I'm trying to come up with a good example that makes sense, but can't think of one. I'll keep working on it for you...
Well, I think I might have been overly ambitious when I decided what to do for my workout today. I ended up modifying it some. Here's what I did:
4 rounds of
Walking lunges with 10lbs overhead--50 feet (came to about 16 lunges)
10 Burpees
followed by:
10 Incline push ups--feet about 1 meter high
2 chin ups
8 Incline push ups
4 chin ups
6 Incline push ups
4 chin ups
I had intended to go from 10 to 2 on the incline pushups and 2 to 10 on the chin ups, but that just wasn't happening. I think if I had done these before the lunges and burpees I would have had a better chance at finishing.
and, just because I felt like it (?):
25 sit ups
20 ball/wall squats
Followed by stretching.
There were a couple of other people in the little gym while I was doing all of this. After my first set of incline pushups, one guy said that it was impressive. That was really fun to hear. Usually it's just BF who comments on the things that I'm doing. OH! And last night, my trainer told me that I was really strong. Also super cool to hear!
Cool about the compliments! I always wonder what people are thinking when they are staring. I hope its mostly that they are impressed
I giggled at the "cuz I felt like it" part, too. I am overly ambitious some days, too. Why? Who knows why we do what we do - most people think we are crazy!
Nice workout! (love the "just cuz i felt like it" part!!)
and very cool about the comments! It's always nice to hear you are doing well/getting stronger!

I'm paying for the "cuz I felt like it" today...my bum is sore! Thank goodness I sit on a ball at work and it's a little low on air right now. It's nice and soft.

I'm going to give another go at them today after work. I've got a bunch of ideas but am also going to look online for some suggested workouts.

omg! i wish it was 60 here..heck id even be happy with 35! haha. its -1 here! *sigh* i dont think spring can come soon enough.

Plenty of snow here.
And I kind of hate you a little for those temperatures. It's about 9F right now.
And lots of snow.... the three ski areas around here (not even sure where they are) have a base of 45 - 70 cm.
I have friends who live next to a big ski resort (about 2 hours away) - their base is 120 cm (about 4 feet).
That was quite a workout, Christina! Glad your ball is helping not hurting!
Thanks!

Hi! And just to let you know, yesterday it only reached 8. Today it'll be 31--or at least that's what they're saying.

Don't hate me...we have our very cold days too. Plus, the serious temp swings make everyone sick.
We got about 6inches of snow yesterday-it was only supposed to be 1-2inches. And I think we've got another couple of days of it before it warms back up.
Ok, so I've done absolutely nothing since Friday. I wasn't feeling the greatest and by Sunday I wasn't able to keep anything down. I'm now very familiar with my bathroom floor and all it's little cracks and whatnot though. Oh, and there's a small crack in my bath tub. I should probably look into fixing that.
Yesterday things started looking up. I was able to eat again! And today I can stay upright without just feeling like crap. And, as it turns out, my office has strep. I'm hoping that I don't catch it too.
Today my big plan is to get some work done, try to eat more than 900cals, and start moving around some more.
