I see you're doing CrossFit. I've done it for the past year, but am taking a break from it for this month as we're doing a Jillian Michaels' program right now. The one thing I would advise is not to do heavy metcons daily as you will totally burn out on them. I don't belong to an affiliate so I never done rope climbs and would do modified HSPU.
Are you following the main site WODs only? Check out some of the affiliate blogs so you can get WODs that you're able to do (meaning equipment wise, like if you don't have rings, rope, etc). We usually followed a local affiliates blog for our workouts. You can always modify them and don't have to them as RXd.
D'oh! Saw you're modifying already. I kant reed! BTW, I have a PDF file with a bunch of workouts on them than I can email to you if you're interested. Shoot me a PM.
Thanks! I've only just started with CrossFit. I'm just doing the WOD (or modified) on my own, so there's no crazy person yelling at me, and I'm certainly making sure to pay attention to form--that's a big kicker for me. I'm not quite willing to do some of the workouts for time or reps because I really don't want to rush through things, lose form, and hurt myself (or totally burn myself out). Really, I needed a change from what I was doing, and this seemed like an easy way to get some fun and challenging workouts.
Thanks Karen!
No, the target isn't directly over your head; it's against the wall at an angle. That said, I came pretty close to smacking the ball with my face a couple of times.
Oh, no -- but, I guess that kind of workout or game would force you to get more coordinated?
Glad you're enjoying the kettlebells and trying some new things with CF.
It kind of is. And some of the exercises are just crazy sounding!

Speaking of kettlebells, I signed up with the trainer last night for three sessions. So, hopefully I'll have something scheduled up soon.
Weekend update:
I took Friday and Saturday off as rest days. Saturday I didn't even count calories. I did, however, eat my normal aray of foods.
Sunday, was crazy. We ran all sorts errands in the morning. In the afternoon we bought a loft bed for BF's son. I was pretty sure the guy we bought it from was going to have a heart attack when I grabbed on of the big pieces to put on top of the car. It made both BF and I laugh.
Afterwards, we went to the gym. I combined two of the CF workouts into one...5 set 5 front squats and run 5k.
Front squats:
75, 80, 80, 75, 70
5K was cut short (2 miles) because it was just too hot in the over-crowded cardio area of the gym and I just couldn't take it any longer. Oh, and I hate running on treadmills. I was lucky to squeak out the 2 miles.
Today will be another CF day. I still need to look it up though and figure out what the heck I'll be doing.
Sounds like fun -- looking forward to hearing about the kettlebells! I hate the tmill too BUT it's ok if I have a DVD or something to keep me busy and I change the speed regularly (every minute or every 5 or something!)
Way to show off those muscles! My husband still says "oh be careful" when I carry stuff or even shovel the driveway. I try to tell him I know what I am doing....sigh.
Very cool about the kettlebells! Its something I am really interested in. I would like to get a few for at home and start learning. I would have to do them outside in the summer though because our ceiling in the basement is so low. I wonder what the neighbors would think?

Maybe if I could watch something that I wanted to watch instead of King of the Hill with captions turned on it would be different. That show just isn't funny without the accents!

It was great because BF looked at me and asked if I had it. When I said yes, he walked off and grabbed something else. He thinks I'm stronger than I actually am. When we work out together, he's always trying to put way too much weight on the bars. Really, he tried to get me to bench press 135lbs the other day, and not just a one-rep max, but do actual sets. I just laughed and lowered the weight.

I have my first kettlebell training session scheduled. It's next Wednesday (the 21st)! I'm so excited about it. And I really like the trainer--we chatted a bit last night. Happy (early) Birthday to me!
I went to the gym last night for my CF WOD...Virtual Shovelling and Pullups. I forgot to bring my list, so I couldn't remember how many of each I was supposed to do, so I made it up as I went.
Virtual Shovelling: (With an Olympic bar holding only one plate, touch the plate on one side of the barrier then the other for one "rep." Barrier is 24")
13 each side w/10lbs on the bar
10 each side w/15lbs on the bar
5 each side w/20lbs on the bar
Pullups: Assisted to failure 3 sets
I followed it all up with 40 situps--I planned on doing 50, but I sat up for the 41st and got a sharp pain between my shoulder blades. I decided that was a good sign that I should stop, so I did some stretching and went home.
I was super hungry all day yesterday and didn't necessarily make the best choices on food. I'm paying for it today with extra bloating and an extra 1/2lbs. Darn all the sodium in processed foods! Ugh.

Bree, that's kinda funny. At least his heart's in the right place .

Men are so funny, aren't they ? My husband is more like Christina's BF in that he gives me credit for being stronger than I am.
Kettlebell workout with the trainer sounds like so much fun! I followed a link to a gal who is 5/2" and coaches website. She had a kettlebell demo video on there and was using 26# kettlebells! That's 52# total that she was doing stuff with. It was very inspiring.

I've gotten a few strange looks from neighbors driving by while doing walking lunges in the driveway!!
One thing that the kettlebell trainer told me was that I'd be able to increase weights quicker because of the movements. You use a lot of momentum in the exercises.
I took a rest day yesterday. I was really tired by the time I left the office (at 4:30!), so I went home, cooked some dinner, and called it good. Today I'll head to the gym with BF after work. Someone said it, and I can't remember who, but having someone to go to the gym really does help with the motivation.
Food is back after my "refeed day"; and, weight is back down to where it was before my pig-out. I'm hoping that it'll drop a little more, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for popping by!
I live near a huge park where people are always doing crazy things, so lunges are nothing to them! I saw someone swinging around a sword not too long ago, and not in the controled practicing a form for some martial arts sort of way. It looked pretty scary!

A real sword? Hmm. I bet you wouldn't get mugged if you exercised with a sword in hand....

I live a few blocks from City Park and Colfax so there's all sorts of, um...interesting people around. Nothing really surprises me anymore.

Have you done any of the 'Heroes' WODs yet? Michael and Murph are ones that make you want to cringe. "Nicole" is another workout like that, too.
I'd fear anything CF could come up with incorporating swords!
I haven't seen those ones yet. I'll have to look through some of the archives to find them...I'll need something for tomorrow. If my calculations are right, tomorrow will be a rest day on the CF site. Rest Day is by far my favorite WOD!
Alright...here's last night's workout:
CF WOD for Tuesday was supersets of 12,9,6,3 power cleans and 20,15,10,5 ring dips. What I did:
PowerCleans:
12 @ 55lbs
9 @ 60lbs
6 @ 60lbs
3 @ 60lbs
Subbed bench dips for the ring dips because the gym doesn't have rings, and even if it did, it wouldn't be happening for me yet.
17-BF said something that made me laugh, and I ended up on my butt on the floor
15
10
5
Then I added in Wednesday's WOD: 3x3x3x3x3 overhead squats. This was a real treat. I attempted my first ever overhead squat with just the bar. I felt so off balance and not confident in general. I got about half way into the squat before bailing. Then I remembered the one DB overhead squat things from NROL4W, so I decided to sub with those. The problem with that is, I had it totally backwards! I had the heavy weight up and the light weight down. Oops. Anyway, here is it:
3 each side w/15 up 10 down
3 each side w/20 up 10 down
3 each side w/20 up 10 down
Needless to say, it felt funny, so I stopped here. Did some stretching, and went home. I wasn't until I got home, ate, and was playing with the pup that I realized it was supposed to be the lighter weight up and the heavier weight down-Duh!
So, speaking of eating. I did really good again yesterday. I'm extremely happy with my choices and quantities. And, everything tasted really good! And, I'm totally seeing the benefit of it today--scale was down 1/2lb, putting me at 135.6.
I don't think I wrote them in here, but I've been doing weekly goals. So far, I've reached all of them this week. I should start putting them here too (I have a notebook that I write in each day regarding fitness, workouts, food, and overall health). Here's my goals for this week, now that it's almost over...
Sunday Jan 11-Sat Jan 17
1. Stay on top of eating and water intake
2. I'd like to see 135 on the scale--I won't be dissapointed if I don't see it, but it really would be nice.
3. Schedule at least one Kettlebell session
So far, so good!
I'll be taking a rest day tomorrow, so I'm going to go through the archives on the CF site to find a workout to do today.
I did a quicky workout in the cardio room here at the office. It's a CF WOD from November...
3x Run 400m, 20 bw squats.
Runs: 5.5MPH, 4MPH, 5MPH
In all, it took just under 14 minutes. Not horrible. I followed it up with some stretching and now I'm drinking water. I was going to do a 4th round to make the run a full mile, but that didn't happen. After the 3rd set of squats, I laid down. I still feel like I could just lay down. I'm so not a runner.
I was also going to throw some sit ups in the mix, but nope. That didn't happen either.
I really have to watch myself with it and make sure to measure; otherwise I will go overboard. It's delicious! I do make sure to get the PB where the only ingredient is peanuts though--it makes me feel a little better about it.
Scale watch: this morning it was 135.2. So, the 135s are holding steady. I'm thinking that it might be nice to see the 134s by the end of the month. We'll see how that goes. I seem to be on track with everything, which is the most important thing.
I know I said that today was going to be a rest day, but thinking about it, I'm going out tonight to see some bands, which means there will probably be a few drinks, which makes the likeliness of getting to the gym tomorrow slim-to-none. So, I'll probably do something similar to yesterday's workout at lunchtime, only do push ups and sit ups instead of squats.
Alright, another quick (not quack) lunchtime workout...
run 400meter, 20 sit ups, 10 push ups 3 times
Runs:
5mph
5mph
300 meters 6mph + 100 meter 5mph
Sit ups: 20, 20, 20
Push ups: 10, 10, 10
This took just over 25 minutes (time included a potty break...). I would have liked it to be under 20 minutes, which it wouldn't have been even without the break, but all-in-all, it's not bad. I have something to shoot for next time.
Somewhere along the line, I became really bad at push ups! I'm going to need to build myself back up on these. The last set of 10 was a real struggle.
Tomorrow will be my rest day. I promise this to myself.
