So speaking of workouts, I'd thought I'd actually post a few of the ones I've recently done, starting with Friday:
1-2-2009
1 mile run

5 sets:
10 chinups (total 50)
20 pushups (total 100)
30 bw squats (total 150)

1 mile run

Side note: this was half the reps I was supposed to do, but, quite frankly, my body gave out. There was no way my arms were going to pull up to anything or push up from anything anymore! I was surprised that I managed to run most of the last 1 mile run--thank goodness for puppies!

1-3-2009
3 times:
1 minute each:
Wall Ball (10lb ball)
Sumo deadlift high-pull (65lbs)
Box Jumps (mid-shin height)
Push-press (45lbs)
Row machine

Did these w/no rest until end of each round, then rested a minute
Wall ball is crazy fun! Pretty much, you squat and, while coming up, "shoot a basket" against a wall, catch ball, repeat.

1/4/2009
5 sets 3 deadlifts
135lbs
140lbs
145lbs
150lbs
140lbs

Just because I don't feel like I've done much ab work lately, I also added in reverse incline crunches w/ leg lifts (3 sets 10).

I think that pretty much covers it for the end of last week. Today, it's 7 sets 1 Hanging Cleans--I'll do that on my way home from work.

Thanks Karen. You're too sweet. And you've just illustrated for me the importance of one of my goals--I'm hoping that I can see myself the way other people do (especially when it comes to that bikini). It's a continuance of the last challenge goal of loving my body. I'm getting there...

Great workouts, Christina! Is wall ball throwing a medicine ball at the wall and then catching it on the rebound? I don't know if I could toss a medicine ball hard enough to bounce back to me. Hmmm. I'm learning all sorts of stuff today.

Thanks Pauline.
Yes, that's pretty much the idea of wall ball. But, you shoot at a target about 10 feet above your head, so it has to come back down. I thought I was going to struggle with throwing it hard enough; not a problem. And, as I mentioned, it turned out to be a lot of fun!

I thought of another goal for me for the challenge...
I need to start making sure I drink enough water on weekends. It's not a problem when I'm at work with my jug right in front of me all day. But, I know I'm not getting enough on weekend. I'll need to invest in one of those water bottles without BPA.

I only have one word for you...Target! Ok, maybe more than one word...the bikini came in all sorts of kick ass colors. There was a super cool eggplant color, and red, and yellow, and green, and--of course--that delightful blue. I can honestly say that the only reason I bought it was for the color. Otherwise, I'd still be in my hot pink undies and kid-sized bra.

On that note, I'm off to do some hanging cleans and cook some dinner. Fun!

Christina, you already look good in your bikini, but I get what you're saying . Wall ball--I hope the target isn't 10 feet directly over your head--I can just see clumsies like myself getting knocked out doing that, LOL !

That is a great suit - you look great! Target is the best for swimsuits. You don't have to buy the same size top as bottom and they are cheap. I bought a bunch for my honeymoon. I still have them, but have a feeling some might be too big for my trip in June - here's hopin'

Good luck with the challenge - I am excited to follow your progress.

Thanks Karen!
No, the target isn't directly over your head; it's against the wall at an angle. That said, I came pretty close to smacking the ball with my face a couple of times.

Target is the best for swimsuits. My tops are never the same size as my bottoms.

So, why couldn't the weigh-in be today instead of yesterday? It seems that my getting back on track work over the last week and a half has paid off...a day late. This morning I weighed in at 136.6. Yup, that's pretty much where I was the end of the last challenge.

The gym last night was full of all the young college boys who decided 2009 was the year for them to lift weights. I give them 3 weeks. OH! And Thursday, the gym is holding a kettle bell class. I'm so excited for it! I'm taking off work early that day so that I can be certain to be there.

Speaking of the gym last night, I did the 7 sets of 1 hanging cleans. This was the first time I've ever done cleans except when moving the bar. So, I wasn't really sure what to expect. Here's how it went.

Warmup with bar
65lbs--too light did a couple extra reps.
70lbs--getting there, did a couple of reps
1. 75lbs failed the first attempt
1. 75lbs made the second attempt
2. 75lbs
3. 75lbs
4. 80lbs--this was pushing it, but got it up. My knees went in at a funny angle, no pain, but not good form
5. 70lbs
6. 70lbs
7. 70lbs

I considered doing some HIIT until I saw how packed the cardio area was, so, instead I went home and cooked a delicious steak and veggie stirfry.

Today's workout should be interesting...it's
400 meter run (about .25 mile)
15 handstand pushups
15ft. rope climb twice
Repeat 4 times.

Here's the kicker...I can't do one handstand pushup! And I have no rope to climb--anywhere. So, I have to figure out what I'm going to do. I'm thinking incline pushups and maybe close-grip chinups?

Yep, you definitely look great in the bikini. It's a great color for you!

Re. loving your body...it seems like most of the battle in losing weight and getting fit is mental! (I hated seeing the pics of myself--I think I've been avoiding taking a good look at the rolls growing around my middle over the past year...) I'm finding that the exercise part is really helping with the body acceptance, though.

It sounds like you're already off to an awesome start with the exercises and are ready to kick butt in 2009. Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean about the mental part. I really need to get out of my fat-girl mentality. I made a lot of progress on this the end of last year, but really need to continue on the path--especially when it comes to my backside. Exercising helps, and, as much as we all hate posting pictures they help too, because it's a clear visual of all our hard work (I need to keep reminding myself of this!).

Oof. Here's how it went:

400 meter run: 400, 400, 400, 350
15 handstand pushups-subbed incline pushups, feet about 1meter high: 10, 10, 8, 6
15ft. rope climb-subbed towel chinups: 5, 5, 3, 2

There was another woman in the gym (cardio room at the office) with me; she sure was giving me funny looks, especially when I was doing the pushups and chinups. I guess no matter where you workout, there's always a chance that someone will think you're crazy for the things your doing.

On a completly different note, for the last two days, my hands have been super dry, and today, they're officially chapped. I've been slathering on the lotion, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything except making my hands red and tingly. I've read that using olive oil on your hands and putting them in mittens before going to bed really helps. Maybe I'll try that tonight.

Okay, WOW! Just wow! Looks very fun and you seem to be enjoying these workouts.

I'm with everyone else who says you look great in the bikini. The thing is, none of us have perfect bodies, you know? And we all keep striving to improve, which I think is great, but being happy with where we are is so so important. Actually reading your thoughts on this over the past few months has helped me a lot, so I'm not necessarily lecturing, just agreeing.

Too funny! She was probably shocked at your buff strength and raw power! For the chapped hand thing, my daughter has that problem as soon as the weather gets below 40 degrees (uh, Sept thru May around here, lol)--but I always have her wear gloves whenever she goes out, even for a few minutes, and Burts Bees lotion does wonders. Vaseline with mittens also helps, although olive oil sounds much more pampering!

Great work on the deadlifts! I am so impressed by everyone's deads lately.

I get a lot of funny looks at the gym mostly because I am usually the only girl in the weight room!

My hands are notoriously dry and cracked - my DH calls me grandma hands. And I am starting to form some serious calluses from lifting. Very attractive. The lotion with mittens thing works good at night. I actually have used socks before. I also have a Mary Kay Satin hands kit thing...I have used it a couple times and it seems to help a little.

Thanks Celeste. The workout really have been fun. Just what I needed to get my motivation back.

It's funny. I totally go up and down with my body image. And, as it turns out, I'm more up than down lately. I don't always express that. It is a constant effort for me though.

I'm always in mittens in the winter. I've got pretty bad circulation, so my hands get really cold really quickly. The olive oil worked pretty good, and it didn't sting. I forgot to put the mittens on right away, so my dog also got an unexpected treat. She licked all of the olive oil off, so I had to re-apply then put mittens on. Ok, I really like the word mittens!

So, I just about spit my tea out when I read "Grandma hands." That's exactly how mine look right now, all dry and cracked. And it doesn't help that I've got age spots on them.

By the way, where's your avi Bree?

I'm usually the only girl in the weight room too. The guys get used to you. And eventually become helpful!

So, today is scheduled as a rest day on CrossFit. But, last night I told BF that I'd go to the gym with him. So, unless his son is still sick and we reschedule the gym, I figure I'll putz around a little, maybe do some bench presses and squats and whatever else I'm feeling; nothing too serious. Then call tomorrow my rest day, since I'm taking the into to Kettlebell class, which is only 15-20 minutes long. So, I don't know how much workout there will actually be.

I slept like crap last night. It was crazy windy here. But apparently it's making me super chatty...I could babble on and on about who knows what right about now. But, I'll spare everyone and try to get some actual work done.

I always use the term 'punchy' when I haven't slept. Although that doesn't kick in until the afternoon for me usually. Just make it through the day, and get to bed early tonight.

I've heard taking flaxseed or cod liver oil will help with dry, chapped winter skin. I took flaxseed oil while pregnant and didn't have any skin issues like stretch marks at all.

It's really windy here, too. My reaction to it is wanting to light the fire, lay on the couch with a quilt and just stay put. Unfortunately, I have to take the kids to piano lessons.

Yeah, that's pretty much the plan...babble a whole lot, make a quick stop off at the gym because I promised and BF really needs the motivation to get himself going again, EAT! and go to bed.

I hadn't heard about flaxseed. I may have to try that. I have a strong dislike for cod liver oil.

I would have loved to stay at home knitting and napping all day, but, alas, deadlines are creeping up on me.

I just had to share--I just ate the most delicious lunch. I stuffed a whole wheat pita with goat cheese (the super soft, almost cream cheese texture kind), canadian bacon, pineapple, hot sauce, and tomato sauce. I threw it in the toaster over for 10 minutes until the pita was nice and crispy. Delicious! Ok, it's a modification of last night's pita pizza dinner, but it somehow tasted better inside the pita instead of on top.

I'd be iffy on the pineapple, but I used to love stuffed pitas in general. I would toss a combination of meat, cheese, celery, onion, and lettuce (iceberg) with some kind of oil/vinegar dressing. It was a wonderful lunch. I think I stopped making them when we stopped buying iceberg lettuce. I love the convenience of the mixed field greens, but they don't have that same crunch.

Anything tastes better wrapped in its own little pillow! That does sound delish. When I worked at Chilis in college I asked them to put pineapple on everything I ate when I ate at work. One of the things was a grilled chicken pita with pineapple and oranges and honey mustard dressing.

ETA - I don't know what happened to my avatar! i think when I was updating my signature somehow it got deleted.

I love putting pineapple in things, especially when spicy is involved. I grew up eating sweet and spicy combo of foods, and it's really carried over into my adult life. I put chocolate in my chili, chili powder in my hot chocolate, pineapple in whatever...

That pita sounds wonderful! Maybe I'll give that a try next time around.

Great pic! Love the headband!

I guess I should throw my "workout" from last night in there...
I did three sets of light-weight bench presses (65lbs), two sets of squats (95lbs, 85lbs), two sets of situps (20 each), and a whole lot of much-needed stretching. Pretty much, I wanted to get myself moving a little bit, but not go overboard, since it was a rest day after all. Then I went home, ate some leftovers, and fell asleep. I was in bed by 8:30, after dozing off on the couch a couple of times.

Tonight is my kettlebell class. So excited for it! Not sure what dinner will be--I don't seem to have any more food in my house. I was kind of counting on leftovers again, but BF apparently polished those off over the last couple of days. Maybe I'll make him take me out for a nice big salad. That kind of sounds good.

Yum!

Deadlines, not so much...but I guess they help pay the rent .

Or mortgage as the case may be, but yeah. And, they're still creeping up on me. I'm still scattered and unfocused. Not a good combo.

The pita pocket lunch sounds yum! Can't wait to hear how the kettlebell class goes.

Ok, kettlebells are too fun! I loved it and will probably end up setting up a couple of training sessions with the instructor. The class was about 20 minutes long and was really just a quick intro to kettlebells and then some instruction on a few moves. Just the little bit that we did was hard. I've got the instructor's email address and will shoot her a quick message later today.

In other workout news, I got to the gym a bit early, so I decided to do a modified CF workout of the day before hand. The workout was supposed to be 10 rounds of 3 weighted pullups, 5 regular pullups, and 7 kipping pullups. My modification was 5 rounds of 3 regular pullups and 5 assisted pullups. I'm not too keen on the idea of kipping pullups, so I skipped those all together. My arms are feeling it a bit today.

I see you're doing CrossFit. I've done it for the past year, but am taking a break from it for this month as we're doing a Jillian Michaels' program right now. The one thing I would advise is not to do heavy metcons daily as you will totally burn out on them. I don't belong to an affiliate so I never done rope climbs and would do modified HSPU.

Are you following the main site WODs only? Check out some of the affiliate blogs so you can get WODs that you're able to do (meaning equipment wise, like if you don't have rings, rope, etc). We usually followed a local affiliates blog for our workouts. You can always modify them and don't have to them as RXd.

D'oh! Saw you're modifying already. I kant reed! BTW, I have a PDF file with a bunch of workouts on them than I can email to you if you're interested. Shoot me a PM.
