Wow, Christina, I hope the bloodwork comes back ok. Actually, it'll be good to get an answer, I just hope it's an easily-fixable answer. I'm so sorry for the exhaustion and not feeling well. This is probably the worst time of year to not be 100%.
How funny--I'm a book hoarder, too. My absolute favorites are about 100, though, that have a permanent home on my bookshelf. I clean them out a couple times a year, but there's always a few new ones that I can't part with.
I hope you find a solution to whatever is wrong at the moment. Finding out what's wrong is the first step to solving it. Over the years I've been a book hoarder, although I think the last one I sat down and read was maybe during a rest week this summer. I've got a ton of audiobooks, so, now that I'm in the car all the time maybe it's time to load up the iPod. Or at least during my cardio times.

Thanks. I'm still waiting for results/answers and sleeping.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hangs onto books. I definitely have my top books. The others though, are ready to be traded!
Speaking of books, I did a lot of reading over the weekend, along with some knitting. All in between naps, of course. Also, I'm eating at maintenance, so weight's holding steady.
I feel a lot weaker in general; I'm not sure if it's because I haven't lifted in a while or because of what ever I'm fighting off, or a combo of both. I'm considering starting to do some light workouts just to get myself moving, but I hurt when I hold my head in certain positions or when I things like situps, so I'll probably wait.
Otherwise, I did a couple of 1 hour shopping stints to try to get some Christmas presents (didn't manage to get any, but I did end up with two pairs of pants, two new bras, and the sweater I've been stalking for months now for myself--I'll have to try again). By the end of the hour, I was ready to go home and collapse.
I think that about covers it for me and my weekend.
Thanks Karen and Pauline.
Bloodwork came back normal. My doc just thinks my body never quite got my mid-November cold all the way out and it all caught up with me (Note to self, when you're sick, don't push yourself too hard---recover!). I've gained about a pound and a half. I'm ok with the extra weight, and I think it'll come off pretty quickly. I haven't been too good about my eating because I just haven't had the energy to cook; and I've done absolutely no exercise--again, no energy.
I've got some energy back, and my lymph-nodes are almost all the way down. Oh, and I can move my head without pain. All good things.
That said, today was my first day back in the gym in almost a month. I feel a lot weaker than a month ago. And, believe me, I took it really easy.
3 sets 15:
DB Squats: 20e, 15e, 15e (did these plie-style)
Seated Cable rows: 70lbs, 80lbs, 80lbs
DB Push Press: 15e, 15e, 15e (only got 13 up on the last set)
Supine Hip Extension: BW
Swiss Ball Cruch: BW
I was also going to do some lunges, but decided against it.
For any of you with NROL, this might look strangely like FatLoss1, minus the Rotational Lunges. That's because it is. I'm going to do two weeks of FL1 to finish out the year (and help get myself back into the swing of things), then move into Strength 1 in January.
It felt really good to workout again. Now I have to remember everything I know about food and get that 1-1/2lbs back off!
Glad to hear nothing was wonky with the bloodwork. For what it's worth, my brother and a couple other people I know got a cold in the fall and then (esp my brother) had a swollen lymph node for months. He actually did one of those 11-day lemon cleanse things to try to "clean out his system" after having nothing else work. That didn't really work either, it's finally going away about now and it's been several months. So maybe it's a really bad/weird variety of cold/flu virus?

Thanks. Something, that's for sure. It really sucked!
I don't think I would ever do one of those cleanse things. I have a friend that did the colon cleanse, and I heard horror stories about it for about a good month. But, he did lose 20lbs in the process, so maybe there is something to say for it? Either way, ick!

I saw one woman on another board talk about losing 20 or 30 pounds in a month, but even if it appealed to me, I doubt I could stick it. I figured she wouldn't maintain the loss, but she seems to. Although she's heavier than me and eating 900 cals a day, mainly raw foods... which I just don't get.
Thanks all! I spent the holiday not using the computer, and not working out. I seem to be having some serious motivational issues. So, the only thing I can conclude is that I need to try something different. I've decided to start doing the CrossFit workout of the day thing. However, I'm reserving the right to switch up the workouts from time to time depending on whether I'll be doing them at home, at the office, or in the gym. But, the goal is to follow them as best I can with the time I have and the location I'm in. I'm starting tonight when I get home from work (client in, so I can't use the gym at the office and will be here late and won't be able to get to the gym on my way home). Hopefully this will get me going in the right direction again.
I do the same thing with too much downtime. I'm just finishing a rest week and always worry I won't be able to get back in the swing of things. The crossfit idea does sound interesting and fun--hope it works for you!
I got sick mid-November and am just now starting to be on the mend. Must have been some weird bug thing like someone above mentioned? I hope you're feeling better now anyway!
And add me to the book fiend list that can never let one go!!!
Hope you had a nice break. I was feeling uber unmotivated today. I get that way with too much downtime.
I like the cross fit idea. Whatever you will enjoy doing is what matters. No use in being bored with your workouts.

I was wondering if the too much downtime was playing a role in it all, and it's very likely that it is. Eiter way, something's got to give.
BF wants to start working out with me again after the new year, so hopefully that'll help too.

Happy New Year! I'm so excited to see you back.
I am really feeling so much better. Now I have to get re-motivated.
So, day 1 of crossfit was pretty fun. It kicked my butt, which is a good thing, right? Today is supposed to be a rest day, but since I only just started, I'm going to do one of last week's workout (I think it's either Saturday's or Sunday's--I'm hoping it doesn't too closely match tomorrows!).
Oh, and I'm super bloated again. I really need to also get my eating back in check. Calories are fine, but salt is really really high! Ugh.
Day 2 of crossfit also kicked my butt, but was still fun. Today (Sunday's) workout was 3 rounds of 800 meter run, 50 back extensions, and 50 situps. Ouch. Let's just say that my heart rate was good and up. Still is...
Wow! Having troubles with motivation and you are doing x-fit! That seems to conflict a bit. I am very motivated and yet not motivated enough to torture myself with cross fit! LOL!
Happy New Year!

I think that I really need a change, and something that'll totally kick my ass. And, oddly enough, the workouts are actually a lot of fun. I'm not so much doing them for time though; I think I'd fall over if I did!

Sometimes you just need a change, so hopefully Crossfit will be that change. Good luck!
Thanks Anne.
I really do need a change. As much as I like NROL and 4W, and as good of results that I saw with them, I think it's time for me to try something new.

Thanks Karen! I can't wait to see what happens next! 2008 was a real whirlwind for me. I got a new job, got myself in better shape than I've been in a very long time, discovered weightlifting. And just so many other things...
Anyway, I took New Year's eve and New Year's day as rest days. New Years eve was really fun. We hosted a 9-year-old sleep over, so there was a lot Wii games, as well as regular board games. New Year's day, well, I spent that day recovering...did I mention the 9-year-old sleep over? Wow, those kids have some energy.
Today, I've done yesterday's crossfit. Again, ouch and wow. I wanted a butt kicking, right? Well, this is the way to get one! I'm going to try to fit Wednesday's workout in somewhere, because it just looks like a lot of fun--today's not so much. (I can't believe I actually just said that...). Thank goodness I had yesterday's workout to do today. I have a funny feeling I'll switch things out from time-to-time...
Alright, so I'm ready to start the 2009 challenge.
Goal:
1. Dedicate time to food. I tend to go in cycles where I'll eat really well, then falter, then get back on track. I'd really like to limit the faltering.
2. Eat at about a 200cal deficit (similar to what I had been doing the end of 2008 before getting sick)
3. The bikini in my pics--every summer we go to the beach for the 4th of July. And, ever year I'm super self-conscious about swimsuits. This year, I'd like that to change...specifically by losing some of that pudge around my bottom half.
4. Remain consistant with my workouts and going to the gym.
Speaking of workouts, for at least the beginning of the challenge, I'll be pulling workouts from CrossFit. I've been doing it for just over a week now, and I'm really liking it.
