Well, I get to reclaim my house today and reclaim my eating habits! No one in my family eats healthy! It's shocking. Although, it shouldn't be because I used to eat like that too. No wonder I kept gaining!
All in all, Thanksgiving was a success, with, of course, the exception of some pie and birthday cake. Oh, and I clearly didn't drink enough water and had too much salt. I'm good and bloated. This week I'm going to focus on fixing that. Even with all the bloat, I'm only up 1.5lbs, so hopefully more than that'll come off...
I managed to get to the gym twice over the long weekend. And did a ton of NEAT! Ever day invloved standing cooking, walking, more walking, cleaning up after everyone, walking. You get the idea. So, that's good.
Today is a scheduled gym day, but I'm going to bump it until tomorrow and focus on my house today after work! I'm very excited about it!
I'm getting my house back in order, too. We still have extra tables set up in the kitchen from all the guests. It's amazing how open surfaces collect stuff.
congrats on successfully completing the challenge - and good luck with your december goals! isn't it nice to have your house back to yourself and being able to get back into your normal routine - so glad we traveled for thanksgiving!! our family rule is to stay no more than one night at my parents' house then it's back to ours lol!!

This is me to a "t"! I was totally bloated and up about 1.5 pounds. I have a feeling it will come off in no time! I bet its nice to have your house back - I know it was so nice sitting in peace and quiet on Sunday when everyone had left! Hope you had a nice time with your family.
I love my family, and I love having them in town, but it's so nice to have my house back to myself. I sat on the couch (after putting things back in order) and watched basketball; I even ate dinner on the couch instead of at the table. Now if only I could get rid of the pounds of pumpkin bread left in my freezer! I actually think I'm going to slice it up and give a lot of it to my boyfriend. He'll eat it much faster than I ever will.
Oh, and can I mention that I love my bed? It's so nice and big and soft and so not a couch!
The bloat is going down. I've got another half pound to go to get back to where I started last Wednesday. It's amazing what drinking water will do for a person!
I managed to forget to bring my workout stuff with me today, so either I'll bump it another day or run home and get it and then go to the gym. I have a feeling it'll be the first option because I also have a ton of errands to run today.
Apparently I have a formal dinner to go to on Friday. I tried on my party dresses last night; one is a little too big now (it was a little too small last year), and the other has a hole in the seam that needs mending (also a little too big now--and yes, it was also a little too small last year). So on top of everything else I've got some alterations/mending to do tonight or tomorrow.
Karen, it was nice, until I realized I had two days to do alterations! Eek! I'm mostly done though, so that's good too.
And the even better news, the bloat is totally gone. This morning, I weighed in at 135.6 (.2lbs lower than I started last week!). So, I can say it's been a good couple of days. Oh, and it's snowing! Love it.
Egads, I'm hungry today! I'm already up to 1358 cals and it's not quite 1pm yet. I'm not sure that I'm going to make my deficit today. I've just had a nice dose of fat (salad dressing on veggies), so hopefully that will help hold me over.
I'm heading to the gym after work also. Maybe I'll have to do a little extra something (HIIT ?) to make up for the difference. Or maybe I just need food today. hm.
Having things a little too big isn't a bad thing, until you need something to wear. I was interested in you mentioning how unhealthy your family's eating habits are. I have to admit that I'm floored around the college seeing what people are eating. I kind of expect some of the guys to eat poorly, but it seems to be an orgy of pizza, hamburgers/fries, large sodas, double/double coffees, etc.

Yep, my in laws eat really unhealthy, too. Mine is better, but the portions are a little crazy somedays. My dad and brother can eat like there's no tomorrow.
Oh and what is it with college students? My younger sister in law lives off Taco Bell I swear. That and easy Mac and Coca-Cola. I would be sick if that is all I ate! I remember my days at the student center for lunch....I would "try" to get something healthy but there really weren't that many options!

Hooray on the scale! You must be very talented to do your own alterations--I sort of sew, but not that well!

I did that same thing a few days ago. Folding socks helped tide me over. Actually I feel the same way today, but I've made it through an obstacle course of junk food so I'm not about to give up now!

Yeah, my inlaws eat everything processed and fast food. We even had stove top stuffing for Thanksgiving!
Hi all.
Celeste, I had help with the alterations. Luckly, they were pretty minor; we just needed to do the top of the dress since the bottom has an A-line. (and Yuck! on the stovetop stuffing).
Anne and Bree-It's amazing what I ate when I was in college. I remember sitting on the floor with my sister eating a cake. Not a slice of cake, but a cake. We'd put it between us and grab a couple of forks and call it dinner. No wonder I have problems with my blood sugar! I'm much better now!.
So, I've been feeling really drained since being sick and then the holidays. I decided to take a couple of extra days off since the only time off I've actually ever taken has been do to illness or injury. It was a nice break. I actually started reading a book. I realized sometime last week that for the last year I've only read fitness books. So, I picked up The Road, and started reading. Sunday was perfect for it because it was sunny and warm. I curled up in the window and didn't move for a couple of hours. I really like reading. I also knitted some more of my hooded shawl. It's still no where near being done, but it's coming along.
Anyway, with the exception of T.O.M coming on Wednesday (good and bloated if you wanted to know), I'm feeling pretty refreshed and only a little tired. I'm still debating hitting the gym on my way home tonight, we'll see how I'm feeling and how badly it's snowing--it's supposed to start at noon-time and keep on going through the night.
I think everyone starts out a little poorly in college nutrition . . . kind of like a vacation from eating what your parents used to make you eat. It's just an individual thing as to how long it lasts.
Glad to see you're getting the snow you want, Christina!
I'm glad you're taking an extra bit of rest / break. I'm very into being good to our bodies these days - we work 'em so hard most of the time!
Yeah, I haven't been the best to my body. But I'm learning.

The sad thing is that even before college, I was eating pretty badly. For a good part of high school, I was pretty much on my own. My dad was travelling for his job, and my mom was laid up in bed for a good long time with a pretty serious back injury. I don't have the "taking a break" excuse.
No snow yet. But it looks like it's coming.
So, I've really got the munchies today. It seems, though, that I really want celery, so I'm not fighting it. I just polished off several stocks. Maybe it's the crunch?

Ah, well, bad nutrition happens . . . You either make changes or you don't, I guess.
Oops, jumped the gun on the snow, didn't I? It's been snowing off and on here for a while. There's snow on the mountains that I can see, but none has stuck to the ground for more than a day or two, so no accumulations.
Craving celery isn't bad at all. Now you've got me thinking I need some, too.
Sounds like a good book - who is the author? I have been looking for a new read as well.
Unfortunately I hate celery.....that's awesome that you were craving it. I think the reason I don't like it is a texture thing. I really wish I did because its so good for you!

Oh, we got our snow! Several inches of it. It's glorious (of course, I also don't have to drive in, so that helps).

I really think the celery thing comes down to the crunch. I love crunchy!

So far, I'm really liking the book; it's by Cormac McCarthy. I got this crazy idea to read all of the Pulitzer Prize books. This is the first one I've started.
I have about 5 of them piled up at home right after swapping for them. If you love reading, and aren't attached to your books (ok with giving them away when your done), you should check out PaperBackSwap.com. I do it and love it. Pretty much, you pay for shipping and that's it. (and if you decide to sign up, use TinaS as the referring name...)
Bree, it's funny that you don't like celery for the texture, because that's the reason I like it so much.
Well, I didn't go to the gym yesterday. I was running late home from work and still had to go to the grocery store. I make a delicious pork fried rice last night for dinner. I've got leftovers for lunch today. It's the first time I tried to make it, and it turned out really good. Plus, I got to control how much of everything went in. So, it was brown rice, reduced sodium soy sauce, minimal sesame chili oil, lean pork only, and a ton of veggies.
Still bloated and waiting for T.O.M to show up. I expect it either later today or early tomorrow morning. I'm starting to get the headache that signals it. Fun...
Just checking on you and it looks like you are doing great. Cool idea about the books, too. I am a book snob and have a real hard time giving up my books. It's like I grow attached or something weird.

Ginger, I used to be that way too. The idea of giving away my books was unheard of. But, ever since I bought my tiny little condo, I'm over it. I have to get rid of the old to bring in the new. Otherwise, it's just a huge cluttered mess. That said, I'll always have a handful of books that I'll never part with. I've just narrowed it down to my absolute favorites.
Woohoo on the snow, Christina! I hope we get at least one snowfall this winter here in balmy SC. I love to read, too. I recently read the Twilight book because my eldest daughter really likes the series. That's the first "fun" read I've had in a while. I'm like you...it's usually fitness stuff I read.

Oh, I know. I just have this dream that one day I will have a room for my books. A study or whatever you want to call it, LOL. I have most of them in storage and I can get rid of anything else, but I am crazy when it comes to my books (and cats, LOL).

We have SO many books stored in the house - the home-office has two built-in shelf units which are full and starting to sag... the bedroom dresser-top is covered with "to be read" and "don't want to give away" books, my H's side of the bed looks like a library return drop... There's a pile of "meh" books to be taken to the reseller, the basement has two LARGE bookshelves that are nearly full, there's a couple of boxes of books in the back storage area that really need to be picked through and donated, and then the kids have their own collections in their rooms...
I guess I know what project I can start on when my job ends...
It's funny that we're all book fiends! Aren't bookworms supposed to be un-athletic? I guess we're just well-rounded. I have the same problem, but I can justify it because we're homeschoolers (the REAL reason I homeschool lol!) I have actually decluttered a TON of books recently, but we still have floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in our homeschool "library", a separate revolving shelf just for textbooks, 5 6-ft shelving units scattered throughout the house, not to mention all my kids have bookshelves in the headboards of their beds and one or two other shelving units in each room! So we love books. I haven't been really on a roll reading, though, lately. I guess I start to feel guilty when I sit down with a book, while this forum takes just as much of my time, I just don't think of it that way.
Are you ladies familiar with bookcrossing.com? You make a journal entry for your books then set them free to be loved by others. I've done this with a handful of books so far and one book has been found by two people who have taken the time to journal the book's travels. I left it at Starbucks where it was picked up and journaled by another 24 Hour Fitness fellow employee...but I have no idea who it was. Then someone else found it later in the mall. Anyway, it is a fun way to clear out some book clutter and give your book a second life that you may even get to hear about. Actual, learned about this on the Flylady forum.
So, it turns out that my exhaustion may be health-related. My lymph nodes are all in an uproar (to the point that it hurts when I touch my neck or move my head) and I can't seem to keep my eyes open or think straight. I went to my doc this morning, and while I have a slight ear infection, it's not enough to cause all of this, so we did a full run of blood work. Hopefully we'll be able to figure it all out if for no other reason than I would like to have the energy to work out, cook dinner, and do other things I want to do. Oh, and so that I'm not sleeping 10-12 hours each day (which is what I'm about ready to do right now--go home and go to sleep).
