My goal in life is to make it to a concert at Red Rocks. I have been there but not for a show. Sounds amazing!

I agree - nice on the chin-ups. I am still doing the negatives.

I find that if I can keep my hands busy I don't think about food as much. I have knitting supplies but haven't taken the time to really learn how yet. As nerdy as it is, I will buy a big book of crosswords and do that if I am sitting on the couch. Keeps me occupied at least!

Thanks. I actually didn't mention that I also attempted to do a pullup and failed misserably! Maybe if I ever get above 3 chinups, I'll start in on the pullups.

Red Rocks is by far my favorite place to see shows. The sound is absolutely amazing. I think seeing a show there is something that everyone should do at least once in their life. I'm spoiled by living here and getting to go a couple of times each season. A lot of really good bands go through too, which makes it even better.

Ooh. Crosswords. That's a good idea. The funny thing is, that even though I'm sitting on the couch, I don't really think about food but I always end up eating it anyway. The two really seem to go hand in hand for me. I'm currently working on a shawl. I figure I'll get it done by the spring...I'm still pretty slow when it comes to knitting.

Anyway, I've got a big batch of buffalo chili cooking in the crockpot at home. It was already smelling pretty good by the time I left to catch the bus this morning. I can't wait for the day to be over so that I can go eat!

bummer on the ankle - hopefully it will finally heal with a brace on.

sigur ros at red rocks must have been amazing! living in maine is sort of a cultural void - it's been ages since i've gone anywhere for anything (concert, theatre, etc.). boston is four hours so not much of an option either. ah well, there are other benefits to living here...

i'm sure it must be a real adjustment going from serious weight loss to fine-tuning with a small deficit. i'm still a long way from that. but it sounds like you've got a plan, and as long as you can stay out of the cookie jar while you're recuperating, you're going to do great!!

Hey Christina--sorry to hear about your ankle. But thanks for the funny neighbor pics! :-) I hope you're up and running around again soon (or biking as the case may be...)

Only 5 more days of the brace! Then I get to walk around like normal. I still won't be able to do heavy weights though for about a month. In about 2 weeks, I'll be able to start doing body-weight and ankle strenghtening stuff. Fun...

For me, it's the chip bag and the peanut butter jar more than the cookie jar. I don't keep chips in the house, but BF comes over with them all the time.

Maine does has its benefits. It's beautiful up there (I've only been once). I've got some family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and BF has family in Boston, so we try to head back east at least once each year--we usually end up in Boston on the beach though.

Thanks!
It'll be the bike quicker than running. And I can't wait. I've had to take the bus everywhere instead of biking around town. And within a month or so, my morning cold biking tollerance will kick in...I can ride if it's 37 or warmer. Anything colder and I just can't take it.

So, the soreness is starting to kick in. I guess that's to be expected when taking 2 weeks off and then doing things like bicep curls and tricep extensions though--two things that I just don't ever do.

If I stay on track today with food, I'll come in just over 1500cal. That'll be pretty good for me. The hard part is that my sister is coming over for dinner and bringing cornbread. I've calculated in 1 piece. I'm hoping I can stick to just that one. I love cornbread though...

No, 5 more days isn't too bad. Did I also mention that I haven't been able to drive with this brace on? I can't bend my leg/ankle in the right direction enough to shift. Not that I drive very often, but it's nice to have the option.

I just discovered that I mis-calculated my snack today. I only brough a half portion in anticipation of tonight. That means I either get another half piece of cornbread or a second beer (since this is not a free meal -- too many of those last week. Time to catch up!). The thought of both is really making me happy.

oh, the thought of a second beer makes me happy too My parents have a house in Evergreen CO and biking down those mountains is a complete white knuckle experience for me.

Glad your brace is coming off soon!

I opted for another half piece of cornbread. It was so good!

Evergreen is really pretty. In the winter, we sometimes ice skate on the lake out there. The hills are hair-raising. I'm a city girl, so the majority of my riding is in the city. Every now and then we take it up to the mountains, but not too often.

Calories yesterday with the extra half of cornbread and an additional 6 almonds was 1562. That's about 240 under non-workoutday maintenance. So, all in all, I'm happy. Plus the chili turned out really good. I've got oodles of leftovers for the next several days. Yum.

Great job on the chin-ups! Are you almost out of the brace now?

Thanks Karen. The brace comes off end of the day Friday and hopefully doesn't come back on again. I walked the dog this morning without putting it on, we walked for about half a mile, ankle wasn't sore, but it did get rather fatigued feeling. It's not quite there yet.

Calories yesterday were 1676--I got hungry half way through the day and my snack just didn't cut it. That said, still about 140 under maintenance for non-workoutdays.

Didn't quite make it to the gym yesterday, but I am going to go the the sad little gym in the building today to make up for it. There's dumbells and a bench, and since that's about all I can do right now, I may as well. I'll have to make some modifications to my plan because I was going to do close-grip bench presses. I'll switch it to incline DB bench presses. Also, I won't be able to do the back extensions, since there isn't a station for that. I'll sub with something else, not exactly sure what yet. Maybe cobras? Hm.

Alright, I worked out in the sad little gym and got a pretty good workout in. My arms are still all shaky from it.

Underhand lat pulldowns: 3 sets--10, 7, 5+3 (I took about 10 seconds after the 5th to regrip). I'm not totally certain what the weight was because I couldn't decipher the machine markings, but I think it was 115.
Seated Wide-Grip Rows: 3 sets 8, I think at 120, but again, cannot be certain. That seems high because for the close grip and my regular gym, I use 100.
Swiss Ball Crunch: 2 sets--15, 10 w/15lbs overhead
Incline BD Bench Press: 1 set 10 @ 20each, 2 sets 8 w/25each. I'm really reluctant to go up in weight here or push too hard when I don't have a spotter, so instead, I played it safe. Maybe not the best approach, but I'd rather not have a dumbbell come smashing down into my face.
BD Flies: 1 set 10 w/10each, 2 sets 8 w/15each. What a difference 5lbs makes per arm! This is the first time that I've ever done these, and it was kind of fun.
Leg Extensions: 2 sets 10. This was also kind of fun--again the first time I've ever done them. Pretty much, I slowly raised and lowered my legs while laying on a bench.

I'm going to shake my way to the kitchen and heat up my lunch now. Leftover buffalo chili. Which reminds me, I totally underestimated the amount that my sister, boyfriend, and I can eat. This is the last of the chili. I made what I thought was enough for the week. I'll have to use another lb of meat next time. So, tonight I've got to come up with something with enough leftovers for the rest of the week. I hadn't planned on having to cook. Oh well. I guess I can still watch the Red Sox while cooking.

Nice workout, especially having to "make do" with that gym!

I could have sworn I posted this already, but apparently not...

The little gym worked out just fine, especially since I can still only do upper-body stuff. It's pretty much a cardio room with free weights, a bench, and a cable station (and those horrible machines that I refuse to use).

Food for yesterday was right around 1900cal. I can't be certain though because I had take-out for dinner lastnight--a salad, but I'm going ahead and padding the cals. With 1900, I'm in about a 100cal deficit. Not too bad.

Today is going to be a struggle. We've got b-day dinner for a friend at everyone's favorite Italian family-style restuarant. My plan is to do low cals during the day, have a shake about an hour before we go, and hope for the best. I always overindulge when we go there, and I'm guessing this time will be no different, but at least I can be prepared calorie-wise. Although I'm not guaranting a deficit tonight. Maintenance is more likely.

Thanks Pauline! It was fun. And the food was great. I, on the other hand, was not so great...First, I started out with 2 garlic bread knots (small, delicious rolls), followed by 1 ravioli in browned butter sauce (yup, everything had dairy, and I'm itchy beyond all heck today!), a ton of pear-pistachio salad, something called Montana Chicken (chicken with sundried tomatoes and asparagus served with penne pasta and a creamy sauce--it's so good!) I had about 3/4 cups total, and sausage and peppers (this came on a bed of pasta, which I skipped) I had 1 piece of the most delicious sausage ever and some peppers. If it hadn't been for the bread, I think, all in all, it wouldn't have been so bad. Estimating, I'd say that I had at the very least 1000cals at dinner. Combined with the 906 I had during the day, I'm ended a bit over maintenance. But, it was so worth it!

In other news, I'm a little disappointed. Sunday is the Race for the Cure here, and I'm not allowed to do it. Darn ankle. So, I registered to Sleep in for the Cure instead. It doesn't have the same feel that racing has, but at least it's something. So, I'm sleeping in Sunday for my neighbor (3 year survivor!) and my dog-walker's sister (just had surgery last month but doing well).

Good thing...today is the last day I have to wear this freaking brace! I'm so excited about that. But, I do still need to let it heal, meaning no running, no heavy lifting, and doing ankle-strengthening exercises as prescribed by my doctor. So, I'll be adding PT stuff to my workouts starting Sunday. Workouts will continue to be upper-body only until I'm able to add in bodyweight stuff, and then add weight.

Plan for today: eat in a slight deficit, workout during lunch in the little gym, watch Red Sox game 2. Oh, and work...
