That trainer has some impressive credentials! I would love to work with someone. I have a few friends/acquaintances who are trainers, but I wonder how that relationship would pan out. I think it would be easier with a stranger. My little brother is thinking of going into sports medicine/training in school so that would workout nice for me

Pics look great too!

Thanks everyone.

Bree, There's only one friend I know who I would be ok with training me, and he's the one that turned me on to NROLW and the original. Otherwise, I think I'd go with someone I didn't know. I'm going to call up the gym today and see if I can set up a time to meet with this guy before committing to anything. I want to make sure that he's someone who will work with me moving towards my goals.

That brings up a good point, what are some questions I should ask when considering a trainer? Anyone?

Oh, I suppose I should mention I worked out last night:
Squats: 1 set 12 @ 90lbs, 1 set 12 @ 85lbs
Barbell Rows: 2 sets 12 @ 75lbs
DB Incline bench press: 2 sets 12 @ 20lbs. Should have gone higher, but was still feeling the pushups from the night before. Ouch--I've got to do those again tonight.
Lunge w/twist: 1 set 12 w/20lb bar, 1 set 12 w/30lb bar
Swiss Ball Crunch: 2 sets 12 w/10lb plate
Hip things w/leg bend: 2 sets 12. Ouch!

Food was 100% yesterday--I'm back in it!

I didn't check out your link, but I'd make sure you have the same philosophy your trainer does on the type of training you want to do. Heavy vs. light weight lifting. Mostly cardio or not. That kind of thing.

I'm back, and freaking hungry today! Dang! I'm sticking with my pre-packaged stuff, but I really really could eat something else. What is it about sitting in a conference room for 8 hours that makes a person hungry? Probably boredom, but still...

Thanks. Good tips. I was kind of thinking of things along the lines of being in tune with my goals, but I didn't know how to word it. I know oI don't want any cardio training. I figure I can run at home; I don't need to pay someone for that.

I know what you mean. During ski season I get hungry just walking into the lodge. I think it's knowing the food is free and it's so COLD that it's like my body thinks it needs to eat. (okay, that's not boredom, but along the same lines.)

So, it's official, the end of last week caught up with me and I'm up 1lb. Hopefully it'll come back off quickly. Ugh.

It's days like today I'm glad I can't eat dairy. All of the buttery pastries in the cafeteria downstairs are free today because they're using a new bakery. Everyone here is eating all sorts of crap. I had oatmeal (I fancied it up by adding chocolate protein powder and peanut butter---like always).

I survived yesterday's 9 hour meeting, and am 30 minutes into todays (clearly paying close attention again. I really should work on that!). All my food is packed and in the fridge. Hopefully I won't sit here hungry/bored again all day.

Celeste, I'm the exact opposite during ski season--when I'm out there, I forget to eat. But that's probably because I'm riding instead of working. And my food's not free.

Wow... free pastries! I don't know if I'd survive that!!! Glad you packed your food for the meeting - good job planning ahead!

I'm with Bytsi, although I'm kind of picky on my pastries so who knows. Good luck on dropping that extra pound. Saying no to the pastry was probably a good first step.

Christina, I'm the same way with sitting around making me hungry. When I'm very active I even forget to eat, but just sitting around makes me think about food. It probably is boredom... I'm having the worst time figuring out my new exercise schedule. My husband just went to third shift and doesn't get home until after 8:30 AM. He stays up all day and goes to sleep around 2 PM. I homeschool the kids and work at an office 4-5 hours a day. My gym childcare hours end at 8 PM. I've never been fond of evening workouts... So it's been tough trying to figure it out. I hope to be on some sort of real schedule beginning Monday. This week has been strictly catch up from vacation at work and home and getting school underway.

Luckily for me, resisting the pastries isn't too hard, as long as I convince myself that they're full of dairy. I can say, though, that the conference room smelt so good yesterday, and it wasn't because of my oatmeal.

I think it is the boredom.
That's quite a problem. I'm sure that you'll figure something out though. I'm the opposite--I can't workout in the mornings to save my life. I hate it (and mornings in general). I'm definetly an evening workout person. I usually stop off at the gym on my way home from work. It's pretty nice.
How was your vacation?

So, I'm way bloated today. Too much salt yesterday. I was really craving it though, so I used it in my food, something I never do. I'm feeling it today. Time to gulp down some water!

I didn't make it to the gym last night. By the time I left the office, I was just way too tired. I actually fell asleep on the train and missed the stop for the gym. I fell asleep again when I got home while waiting for BF and his son to come over for dinner and quality puppy-time. After dinner, you guessed it, I fell asleep. I'm really awake today though!

Worked out today...
Deadlifts: 2 sets 12 @ 110 lbs
Shoulder Presses: 1 set 12 @ 25lbs, 1 set 12 @ 20lbs
Chin ups: 3 sets 2 + 1
BSS: 1 set 12 w/10lbs, 1 set 12 w/20lbs
RDL 2 set 12 @ 95lbs
Swiss Ball Crunch: 2 set 15 w/25lb plate.

So, I'm really dissapointed today--the girl that pretty much enspired me to do chinups doesn't go down all the way. She lowers to about 90degrees. I'm glad that I was enspired to do chinups, but somehow, I still feel a little let down.

I'm down 1/2 of the pound I gained last week, so that tells me food is back on track (not to mention that I was about 92% compliant for the week--YAY!).

I feared getting burned out on all the high rep, low weights sets I was doing, and it happened, so, when I finish my modified FL1, I'm going to jump right into Hyp.1 instead of FL2. I'm also still toying with the trainer idea. I'm just not sure that financially I can do it quite yet. Maybe in another month.

Last night I accidently lighted up my humus recipe. Usually I use a can of garbanzo beans, a clove of garlic, lemon juice, and about 1/3 cup olive oil + whatever other flavor I'm feeling like. Last night, I ran out of olive oil, so instead I used water. It turned out tasting pretty good and has less than half the oil (added sun dried tomatoes and crushed red pepper--Yum!). I think from now on, I'll use this method. I don't miss the oil at all.

Today it's a pretty gloomy day out here--rain and cold, so before I left the house, I threw some buffalo meat and a bunch of veggies with vegetable broth in the crock pot. I can't wait to get home. It was already smelling really good when I left for work.

I've been thinking about it, and I think, for now, I'm going to stop the 100 pushups. I've been running around like crazy lately, and I just can't seem to find time to do them, and I don't seem to be totally motivated to do it either. So, for now, I'm going to focus on my eating, weekly workouts, and finding time to just relax for a few minutes.

It's strange isn't it? I've found that with other things, that I really don't miss what I've cut back on (ie. sugar and/or oil). One of these days I'll actually have to try making my own hummus....

I love humus but can rarely find a store bought one that's good. It's so easy to make, so I just do that instead--plus I can make it any flavor I want.

I twisted the crap out of my ankle this morning leaving the coffee shop. Apparently there was a step that I missed. It didn't seem too bad as I was walking to the train stop, but as soon as I sat down, I could really feel it. Now that I'm at work, I can tell that it's pretty swollen, and my toes are a bit tingly. I'm going to have to run--or very slowly go--downstairs to get some ice. Ugh. I'm hoping it doesn't affect my workout tonight too badly. I'm a bit worried about the squats and lunges. I don't want to cut them out, but I will if I have to.

Food for yesterday was pretty good. I did stray a little with an extra couple of ounces of peanuts. The crockpot buffalo stew was wonderful. I brought left-overs for lunch today. The container I put it in apparently leaks, so now I smell like stew--I got some on my pants (thankfully they're dark pants and you can't see the stain, only smell it, I may try cleaning it off a bit).

Good things for yesterday: See buffalo stew above. It was so good and really hit the spot. It was the first really chilly lday we've had in a very long time. I walked into my house to such a wonderful smelling dinner.

Well, off to get some ice.

You're having a Monday (even though it's Tuesday) ... ugh - sorry!

Hope the ankle isn't too bad - keep icing and elevating!

And kinda LOLZ on the stew - sounds like something I'd do, wearing my food... of course I would usually be in light-colored clothes when I spill, so it really shows

It really is like a Monday. Ugh. I'm icing, but not elivating--no place to do that. And I still smell like stew. I couldn't get it out. Oh well.

I walking on it, just a lot slower than usual, so I think it should be ok. Oh, and going up and down stairs is unpleasant. Not too terrible though. Just swollen and not quite right.

I'm on a big buffalo meat kick lately. We discovered that it's a lot cheaper at a specialty shop out here than regular beef at the regular groccer. Plus, it's so good! Not as gamey as I expected. So, we have buffalo burgers, burritos, steak, and now stew. Did you get ground buffalo or steaks? If you grill it, remember that it doesn't take as long as beef. You don't want to overcook it.

Ankle Update: Not fantastic, it's still swollen and sore. BF looked at it last night while I was standing and half-laughed about how much bigger it is than my other ankle. Not really a good sign. So, more ice on the agenda today.

Buffalo is quite good.
For the stew, I used 2lbs of buffalo stew meat, baby carrots, celery, onions, garlic, corn and vegetable broth, threw it all in the crockpot on low for the day. I forget that not everyone has access to buffalo the same as beef. You might try a Whole Foods or something along those lines for the buffalo steaks. I get mine at a local natural groccer.

I did a somewhat workout last night--I couldn't do the squats or lunges, so I focused on upper body and core...
Barbell Rows: 1 set 10 @ 75lbs, 2 sets 10 @ 80lbs.
Incline Bench Press: 1 set 10 w/ bar only, 1 set 10 @ 55lbs, 1 set 10 @ 60lbs. I ended up going pretty light on these because I'm used to just using the dbs. Next time I'll know better...
Swiss Ball Crunch: 3 sets 10 w/15lbs overhead
Hip Extensions: 2 sets 10--sat indian style after the second set, tried to stand up, and really tweaked my ankle more, so I went home.

Food yesterday: 100% compliant.

Client is in town again, I'll be holed up in the conference room for the next two days. It sounds like I'll be in St. Louis next week for a couple of days, unless we really hash things out today and tomorrow.

I hope your ankles is doing better, Christina! That buffalo stew sounds yummy. I'm going to try it with grassfed beef.

You actually made me look around here for it. There are a couple of farms that sell direct, but they are a bit of a drive. One of them I think mentioned a place closer so I might try them. The only catch is that it's quite pricey in comparison, so I doubt (at the moment) it will become a staple. For a treat though I thought I might buy some for Thanksgiving or something.

Grassfed beef sounds good too. You'll have to let me know how it is.

I thought about doing a buffalo roast for Thanksgiving this year. I think with a rub it might turn out pretty good. The only catch is that my sister and her husband love the turkey I make and will probably be dissapointed if we don't have that. Maybe Christmas instead.
Luckily for me, the buffalo is the same if not less expensive than the free range beef for me. It's become a staple my house.

Anyway, I worked out Friday and haven't been on the boards since. Here's that:
Deadlifts: 3 sets 10 @ 115lbs
Chinups: 1 set 3, 1 set 2+1, 1 set 2
Shoulder Press: 2 sets 10 @ 22.5
RDL 2 sets 10 @ 95lbs
Reverse incline crunch: 2 sets 15.
I got really tired after the chinups and cut everything back a set. Also, I was scheduled to do BSS, but didn't because my ankle wasn't 100%--it is now though! Yay.

I've been having problems sleeping lately. On top of that, I've really lost my appitite-I'm eating, but not happy about it. So, I've decided to take a rest week. I'm heading out to St. Louis tonight for work, and will be there until Wednesday night (not too long of a trip this time). I'm bringing a lot of food with me, so I know my food will be ok. There's always the temptation to drink though. I'll see how I do with that.
I'm hoping that I'm somewhat refreshed by the time I get back. I didn't even pack any sort of anything that would allow me to workout or do any cardio, so that's good. If I can managed a couple of good night's worth of sleep, I think I'll be a lot better off.

I think that sounds like a good decision - rest, relax, eat... your body is pretty good at telling you when it needs a break!

What kind of food do you pack to bring with you?

I mainly packed my snack stuff and breakfast. I'll be relying on the groccery store and my judgement for lunch. Dinner will be tricky. One will be at the airport Wednesday night. I'm calling that one a wash, unless I can pick up a salad at the groccer.
Breakfast I have oatmeal w/protein powder (my staple breakfast), the hotel has peanutbutter packets, so I'll use those too to get some fat in there. For snacks, I have homemade protein bars, fruit, and nuts. Lunch will be whatever I can get at the groccer that doesn't need to be refridgerated all day. I'll probably get some sandwich fixings. It may be higher in sodium than I like, but it'll do. Dinner will be whatever I pick up at the groccer and can cook in a hotel room. I may join the others for dinner once, but it really depends on where they go. They seem to like to go to the fish place where they can't guarantee that my food hasn't been cooked near shellfish or on a grill that shellfish was previously cooked on. If that's where they go, I'll skip that meal. If they go to the steak place, I'll go to that.

so the stew i made was delicious, even though i couldn't put carrots or potatoes in it. for the buffalo i made meat balls out of them. baked them and threw them in the stew. i had stew beef already in, which came out really tender. it tasted great. still have some leftovers. yum

hope your trip goes well and ya get some sleep

Meatballs sound terrific! What a great idea.

I totally forgot to do my good things for the weekend....
Saturday I was driving through my neighborhood on the way to the store when the car in front of me pulled off to the side of the street. The woman jumped out of her car and yelled, "Let me help you with that!" I looked over to the right to see a man trying to move a couch by his self. It was probably the nicest thing I've seen someone do in a very long time. That's one of the reasons I really love my neighborhood. People are always helping everyone else out. When I moved in, I had strangers moving some of my stuff too, like my couch and my bed. It was just a girlfriend and I moving everything into the house, and I had a fractured wrist at the time. It was super nice.
It's funny because a lot of people look at my neighborhood as maybe not the safest, and, yes, there are a handful of people going from one liquor store to the next to the next (there are four within a square mile radius of my house). But it's also those people who are always helping other people out.

Sunday was pretty much a wash for me. I took a nap through the first quarter of the Broncos game, watched the rest, packed, and had dinner. Nothing special either way. The nap was nice.

Anyway, I'm off to the airport. Fun...
