For JUST your membership???? Even if that includes your H, that's pretty expensive... wow! Is Columbus that much pricier than we are? Wow!
There's an Urban Active about 20 minutes from my house - I might call just to see how much they charge (out of curiosity only)!

I started working with my current trainer in December of last year. He moved over from the Y to the local Planet Fitness. After thinking about it and talking to a few fitness friends (both here on the forum in my log, and local friends) I decided to start going to Planet Fitness to continue my training. I figured I didn't want to waste time in trying to establish a relationship with another trainer that may or may not work out. I think I made the right decision. If you REALLY like the results you were getting, and the trainer's methods for getting you there, I'd suggest going with him to his new gym (especially so if it's going to be cheaper for you).

I believe that $215 includes her training and child care too, not just her monthly charge for the gym itself, right Ginger?

Yes, that is with all of that included. Plus, I also pay $22 for my son's membership. Just need to look at it all.

Ah! Ok, that makes a LOT more sense!!! LOL! I couldn't believe a gym was worth that much JUST for membership

I do have options, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks, Vickie. The PT director did stop me tonight while I was in there. I just don't know what to do. I have 12 unused sessions, so if I want to use them - I will have to buckle down and decide which trainer I would work with. Too bad I couldn't transfer those sessions to you.

Ugh, this is such a tough decision. Thanks for sharing your story, that does help.
So, I did get a workout in. Yay! Like I said, the Director stopped me to tell me about my trainer being gone and I decided to act like I didn't know to see what he would tell me. He of course started telling me great some of the others trainers were and I told him I needed to think about it.
So, I did my cardio and went to talk to him about cancelling my sessions. Once I reminded him that this was trainer #4 for me, since the gym opened just a little over a year ago, he gave me a number to call to request they cancel it without charging me the $250 fee. I called but of course, they are closed.
So, I decided to go check out the trainer's new gym and I am just torn, to be honest. It is a lot smaller. The free weight area is even more intimidating and the cardio equipment is pretty limited. I am just undecided. So for the moment, my plan is to cancel my PT sessions and see what I can do from there. My trainer is willing to give me the number of PT sessions I have left, without charging me anything to do it. He works on his own at this gym and he is telling me that he will work with me, since he knows I have spent a crapton of money on PT with him.
The new gym will only charge me $21 a month for a membership, so I am wondering if it would be worth it to pay that, to be able to go train with him. Decisions suck.

So, you can get your $$ back on your 12 sessions, and then take them at the new gym w/ your PT and only have to pay the $21/mo? If you were to get your $$ back, then decide to find a new PT at your existing gym, would you have to pay a higher rate or anything? Is there any downside to getting your $$, then trying the new gym for a month? The $21 is still less than the cost of your sessions, so it's not really "wasting" money...

Think about what Norah said. But also, the new gym should give you a pass for a week or so... Go train with your trainer a time or two and see how you actually like working out in the gym. It might be smaller and seem more intimidating, but you won't really know how you feel about it until you're working in that space. It could be there is also fewer people working out when you do which could equate more space than you're used to. Just something else to think about!

X2!!!
Doesn't hurt to try it out, for that great low price, right?
And do NOT be intimidated - you are WAY too strong and knowledgable to be scared off by a new gym. Try it a few times, and I bet you'll be able to figure out if it's a good match for you or not.

These are all good thoughts and options. I don't know for sure if they will reimburse me for the 12 sessions I have paid for and not used. That will come in my phone call to the corporate office later today.

Ahh, thanks for saying that but it was pretty damn scary looking over there. LOL I am pretty comfortable in my gym, finally, but this is a little more hardcore. My trainer said the same thing to me, but it literally takes my breath away.

Hi Paula!
So, I think the conclusion to all of this is:
I am going to keep my membership at the current gym.
I am going to call and cancel my monthly PT subscription at my current gym.
I am going to join the gym with my trainer and train with him there, once per week and use up those sessions he willing to give me.
If I cannot get reimbursed for the 12 sessions, I will be open minded and work with one of the trainers I think can help me.
This will still save me money and I really do like my current gym setup. There is plenty of cardio equipment, I feel comfy in the free weight area and I know a lot of people. It's kind of my home, I guess. And to pay just the $21 a month for the other place, it is still worth it to me.
Thanks for all the suggestions and reading me talking this out.

Sounds like a great solution Ginger. And after all is said and done, you'll have tried the new place too and you'll see how it fits you.
I get free membership to a pretty nice gym through work, but I still pay (not much) for the local rec gym where I've always gone... it's like you said - it's home to me.

Sounds like a good idea...you can see what the new place is really all about...and see if you feel comfy there while not losing $ in the interim...after all the $$ you spent on training the $21 a month is worth it if you're trying to think about making the jump!
The only other thing I would say is, if you don't do it already to make sure you use a credit card for your sessions or at least half of them if you can. I only say this because the gym we were at previously went under, and we had paid by check, and *poof* it was gone! Had we paid all on cc, we could have denied the charges or at least disputed them with the cc company...it just leaves you some options! Just a thought!!!
Good luck with the new plan!!
