I used to always ride with Shawn too, but since getting my own bike I am pretty much kicked off the back. He says it doesn't perform the same with two people on it!
Kevin says the same thing!!!! And I'm not allowed on the back of his bike anymore! I told him that was just fine, cuz I have my own now!!! He's such a smarty-pants!
Leah: you look beautiful in your red biker pants (and my fav color). I've always thought riding motorcycles looks fab but never wanted to learn because I kept imagining falling off & leaving my skin on the ground. Glad you've been having some fun too -- I think it's a necessity. Saw a guy on the prettiest bike today (and purple), and thought of you.

I grew up on motorcycles (and have the scars and brain damage to prove it! LOL) and have always loved them! Bought a moped as soon as I turned 16 and owned a few different ones over the years. I've only owned one motorcycle as an adult, though, and it died on me after only putting a few miles on it. Shortly after that, momhood arrived with its accompanying mom-paranoia. Maybe once the kids are grown and gone, I'll get a secret bike....

Thanks Tracey! Fortunately I haven't met up with the ground yet, but I keep just about every bit of skin covered just in case.

Hey Diane- Sorry your bike died. That sucks. I like the secret bike idea. The family will wonder, where's mom, her car is outside, but she's nowhere to be found ...
Today is cardio day and I have already done my workout! I went outside in the dark and cold and ran for 30 minutes, including four 1 min speed intervals.
Food plan for today:
Breakfast: nuts and raisins, english muffin w/peanut butter
Morning snack: cottage cheese w/strawberries
Lunch: rotisserie chicken breast and 1/2 bag frozen mixed veggies
Afternoon: 1/2 tuna sandwich and apple
Dinner: broiled steak and shrimp - I'm going to toss the shrimp with a little lime juice, garlic, olive oil, and some Penzey's bangkok blend
pan roasted brussels sprouts and carrots
Okay I am really struggling with my appetite - it is insane these last few days!
Last night I made the dinner I planned, but I felt like I just could not stop eating. The serving of the brussels sprouts and carrots turned into about four servings and I had fixed some mashed potatoes for Shawn that I helped myself to. All day long my belly was rumbling and there were krispy kreem donuts in the breakroom and I just kept pulling up my progress pics on my computer and thinking how bad do you want this? I don't think I overate to the point that I put myself above maintenance, but definitely significantly above my fat-loss planned amounts.
Today is my A lifting day, so I should not have to be hungry but my belly is rumbling - go figure.
Today's food plan:
Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal w/brown sugar, 2 tbls raisins, 1 chopped up apple
Morning snack: rotiserrie chicken breast and mixed veggies
Okay so far I have eaten the above items and it is not even 11, so I should not be hungry!
Lunch: leftover shrimp, steak, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts and carrots
You're doing Fat Loss III yet though... Such a metabolically expensive workout's gotta push up your appetite.
Yeah, I've been considering if I could keep losing fat or even do better by eating a little more. I guess when you've been big, its hard to trust your appetite. I feel like it led me astray in the past. But obviously food choices were a big part of that, i.e. pasta, white bread, cookies, donuts, ice cream and other assorted junk.
I've been thinking of trying TNT. I ordered the book from Amazon today. I am just picturing myself blissfully devouring mixed nuts, brussels sprouts and carrots, stir-fry veggies, and taco skillets - and having a full tummy! I thought I read somewhere you can even drink beer.
I'm following the principles of the diet, but not on any particular plan. That is, I try to only get carbs from veggies, unless it's pre-/post-workout nutrition. A beer or two for happy hour and a cheat meal thrown in.

Hey Tom -
I am going to read the book, but I have never followed any diet or program that strictly. I just need more flexibility I guess, or I start to feel deprived.

My weekend didn't go quite as planned. I decided to drive to Shawn's Friday night instead of Saturday morning because of all the snow that was forecasted. I was going to lift when I got to his house, but I had been in the car for almost three hours (twice as long as it normally takes) and it was stressful from all the people off the interstate in the ditch and I just watched a movie with is daughter and went to bed. This would have been okay if planned, but I ate lifting cals and it turned into a rest day.
Then before I went to bed I had somehow worked myself up about how I am going to gain back all the weight I lost so I tried on all the clothes I have at Shawn's, just to make sure everything is still okay. Luckily he was out in the garage and didn't witness this insanity.
Yesterday morning I got up and did Fat Loss III A3
Giant set of deads, explosive push-ups, BSS, two-point dumbbell row, 60 sec rest after whole set
145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30's/10ea
145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30's/10ea
145/5, rested a bit, 5 more BW/10 25's/12ea 25's/12ea
145/10 BW/4, layed on floor gasping for breath, 6 more 25's/10ea 25's/10ea
Giant set of deads off box, dumbbell bench press, walking lunge w/side bend, cable seated row (subbed bent over row) 60 sec rest after whole set
I just felt so negative and like I was totally sucking throughout this entire workout and that is not like me. I was bummed about needing the extra rests and just generally feeling like I couldn't do it.
Saturday's food
Breakfast - made by Shawn!: 3 slices bacon, 2 scrambled eggs, 1 med orange, 2 1/2 banana chocolate chip pancakes - delicious!
Post-workout: 1 cup milk and 1 scoop strawberry protein powder
Lunch: 8 oz salmon fillet and mixed frozen veggies
Afternoon snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 10 peanut butter filled pretzels
Dinner: lentil, sweet potato and spinach soup, 8 oz grilled chicken breast
Evening snack: chocolate chip cookie cake for older daughter's 14th birthday - I had tried to plan for this, but I ate about twice the portion I was going for. My brain was like don't do it, but my hand kept reaching for more and shoving it in my mouth until I had a tummy ache! Lesson for future: stick to dry yucky walmart cakes for birthdays
Intervals:
3 min @ 5.0
1 min @ 7.6, 2 min @ 5.0
1 min @ 7.7, 2 min @ 5.0
1 min @ 7.8, 2 min @ 5.0
1 min @ 7.9, 2 min @ 5.0
15 min total
This workout felt good and strong! I upped the weights on some stuff and I felt generally positive during the workout.
Today's food:
Breakfast: more birthday cookie, english muffin w/ham, egg, and swiss
Morning snack: apple
Lunch: lentil, sweet potato and spinach soup, 8 oz grilled chicken breast
Post workout: 1/2 cup milk, 1 scoop vanilla prot powder, 1 cup frozen strawberries
Dinner: parmesan tilapia & stir-fry veggies
Evening snack: 1 corona w/lime
All this week I have been in a funk and sometimes even felt panic about how I'm eating to much, getting off track, etc. This morning driving home a thought crossed my mind that calmed me a lot. I remembered that the week before Christmas I ate above my goals for seven straight days. And in the period between Dec 1st and Jan 5th I still lost a little over 2 lbs. I am determined to finish strong on Fat Loss III and I am feeling better about things.

Leah, I think we all have our moments (or whatever amount of time )of insanity and I'm glad to hear you thought through yours. I'm interested to hear what you think of TNT. And, how do you make the spinach/lentil/sweet potato soup?

Thanks Karen! The soup was the one posted by Amblus in the week 9 motivation thread.
Sweet Potato Lentil Kale Soup Recipe
I love everything about this soup — the way it looks, the way it tastes, the different textures and how easy it is to make. It makes a fine meal all by itself. If you try it, I’d love to hear your experience.
1 c. dried lentils (your choice… this time I used French green, but have had lovely results with red and the black beluga ones too.)
6 c. low-sodium organic vegetable broth (or cooking liquid of your choice)
1 onion, chopped up
a few cloves of garlic, smashed or sliced
3 sweet potatoes or yams, all chopped up
1 or 2 bunches of lacinato kale (or greens of your choice)
1 splash of olive oil
1 tbsp curry powder (or to taste)
Splash a little olive oil in the bottom of a big pot and sauté garlic and onion for a few minutes until fragrant and translucent. Then toss in everything but the kale and bring it to a boil. Simmer for about 15 minutes, then toss in the kale. Simmer for 15 minutes more, then serve. Excellent with a crusty grainy bread or brown rice. Enjoy!
Leah, if you need any TNT advice, just holler! 10 weeks and still goin' strong here!
Hey Jane-
It seems so restrictive, but every time I try one of your recipes I think, I could do this. I had the broiled parmesan tilapia for dinner tonight and it was incredible!

You are so right Kelly, it matters what we do over the long haul, not a day or even a week.

Hi Leah!
I've been following your thread, but haven't posted before. Just wanted to chime in and say that the hunger bug has bitten me too, and it's like the more I obsess about it and panic about my downfall, the worse it sucks me in!! Responding to Karen's reply, I've lost significant weight (over 90 lbs.) and usually can manage my hunger, but this last week has just been a nightmare.
Just know that you are not alone, and that we will prevail! Hopefully it is our bodies' way of knowing that Spring is around the corner and we're fueling up for the glorious chance to finally get outside and do something different. (sounds good, right?) I went to the grocery store today and loaded up on fruit and also picked up a few variations of low-fat/low-carb crackers. At least this way, I have things on hand that I still wouldn't normally eat, but if I break down, I'm still making much better choices than eating a half-bag of scrounged-out-of-the-baking-cabinet chocolate chips!!
Here's a good indulgence recipe that has gotten me through more than a few "hungry like the wolf" moments: Frozen Chocolate Bananas:
Bananas (cut in half)
Dark Chocolate (65% cacao or better, preferably)
popsicle sticks
chopped nuts (optional)
Cut the bananas in half, put the popsicle sticks through the wide bottom, and place in a glass dish, covered, in the freezer for at least 4 hours.
After bananas have frozen adequately, melt chocolate in double-boiler (or metal bowl placed over small pan of low-boiling water). Pour melted chocolate into deep, narrow glass. Working quickly, dip each banana into chocolate to coat thoroughly and then roll in chopped nuts, if desired. Wrap in wax paper, place back in freezer until ready to eat.
Delicious, nutritious, and a pretty healthy alternative for those moments when only something chocolate-y sweet will do!

Oh my god! Bananas always used to make my mouth tingle, so I stopped eating them. But I've started again recently, with no adverse reactions, and I TOTALLY forgot about these!
I don't even know if I need the chocolate and nuts. I'm going to stick a banana in the freezer right now. Mmm, frozen banana.
Leah - I have a few books by this woman who writes about weight loss and emotional issues and stuff - her name is Geneen Roth. She's great. She has this whole theory that once you really know what hunger is, and trust your hunger, your body sort of takes care of itself. Obviously, I'm still doing the weights and cardio and eating clean, but she's got a point. Often, if I'm overeating, it's not because I'm really hungry. More often, it's because I'm not paying attention (like picking off a plate while talking with friends after dinner), or I'm emotional (like wanting to devour an entire chocolate bar because I'm stressed and hormonal), or I'm bored (Sunday afternoons, anyone? No snack foods in the house. Hard to overeat cottage cheese.). You know what I mean? Overeating bad foods is hardly ever about the hunger. At least, for me it isn't.
And your hunger now is earned! You're burning calories and testing your body in the gym, and it's responding by turning into a human furnace.
I don't know how heavy you used to be, but I look at your pictures now and think, "Man! She looks good. One day, I'll have rippling back muscles..."
Do you have before pictures?

You're still doing great on the workouts! I wish the nutrition part of it was as "easy" as the workouts. I don't do well with restrictions, either, which is why I like TNT so far. Of course, how restricting it seems all depends on what you normally like to eat.
Hi Leah! That's what I had for dinner, too! I had it with steamed broccoli and cherry tomatoes. MMMMM.....
That sounds delicious!

Hey LoriAnne - I love frozen chocolate bananas! They make me think of summer and taking the kids up to the ice cream stand. Thank you so much for this recipe. I think I will make it tonight!

My highest weight was 204.8 when I joined Weight Watchers. I do have old pictures of myself, but like all of us, when you're big you don't let people take pictures of you in your bathing suit too often.

Hey Diane - I wish the nutrition part was easier too. It seems like you are having great success with TNT. I was really impressed with your two month pictures!
Today is a rest day. I did my stretching / yoga routine last night and the downward facing dog was excrutiating. Eventually my legs and butt loosened up a bit, but they are very tight again this morning. I need to get a foam roller.
Food plan:
Breakfast: 1 scoop cookies & cream protein, 1 cup milk
Morning snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese w/ 1 cup frozen strawberries
Lunch: parmesan tilapia, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies
Afternoon snack: 1 can tuna w/hot sauce
Dinner: salmon fillet and broccoli
1 scoop PP
Frozen banana
Stick it in the blender and make "ice cream"
Top with your fav toppings
One of my fav shakes is
6 med frozen strawberries
1 med frozen banana
1 c nonfat milk
1 sc PP
Blend, on man this is just like ice cream also. I use them PWO
I love the ice cream idea! Usually if my shake is coming out thick like that I just add a bunch of water to thin it. But I could put it in a bowl and eat with a spoon with a few nuts sprinkled on top - yum!

Well last night was somewhat stressful. We periodically get these calls from Shawn's daughter when she is not getting along with her mom that she wants to come live with us now. Usually she changes her mind by the end of the evening, after five million calls back and forth and us panicking trying to figure out how we are going to get the custody order changed, get her into a new school, rearrange our work schedules, fit an extra person in our small home, live without our privacy, etc.
Its a poor excuse, but I ended up adding on 2 oz BBQ potato chips, a few mixed nuts, and four thin mints, bringing yesterday's total to around 2000 cals. I'm not mad at myself over it, just felt I should log it for accountability's sake.
Today:
Already did 10 rounds of HELL drills before work. I wanted to quit about halfway and I didn't feel very energetic. Just a gentle reminder that added food should be nutritious food, not chips and cookies, for optimal workout performance.
Food plan:
Breakfast: whole wheat english muffin w/scrambled egg, 2 oz canadian bacon, 1/2 oz cheddar
Morning snack: 1 serving sweet potato, lentil and spinach soup
Lunch: 7 oz salmon fillet and 1/2 bag frozen mixed veggies
Afternoon snack: orange
Dinner: 10 oz broiled steak and roasted broccoli medley
Evening snack: frozen chocolate banana per LoriAnne!
I decided to add 100 cals to my original target and see if this helps me stay on plan a little better.
I made the bananas last night and I think they are going to be delicious. The only thing was it seemed like tons of chocolate stuck to the first one and I barely had enough to coat the last one. I will have to experiment again to try to make it come out more even. I rolled them in chopped hazelnuts.
