Okay - you are right, I need to put a positive spin on things.
After getting a new catalytic converter yesterday so my car would pass emmissions, I hit a big bump at the plant gate this morning and I could hear I was dragging something. I was just convinced I was dragging the converter, but it turned out to be a rusty old bracket that didn't seem to be holding up anything anyways.
Note to self: STOP thinking the worst!
Yeah, that!!! Having the doc recognize your weight loss is AWESOME!!
I don't exactly know why this is bothering me, its kind of stupid, but I went to the gynecologist yesterday for my annual exam and to get my birth control shot. As she was getting ready to give me my shot (in the hip) she said - did you lose a lot of weight? She seems like a nice person and I know she meant well, but I'm thinking, are you asking because of all my lose skin, or it is the stretch marks? Maybe she just read it in my chart and I am being a paranoid psycho. Three months of hormones shot into my ass could do that!
Leah, you're doing so well with your workouts and your food! As a side note, when I used to be on birth control, the doctor always monitored changes in my weight because it has a lot to do with the effectiveness of (hormonal and non-surgical) birth control. Aside from that, though, it's great that she noticed that you're making progress !
Karen I think you are right about the weight thing. I read on the manufacturer's website that weight gain is a typical side effect for Depo Provera because it increases your appetite. I like the product for the convenience and because I don't get TOM, but the appetite thing sucks because it makes me feel like I can't trust my hunger. Am I hungry because my body needs energy, or because of the medication?
Yesterday's plan changed a little. I just did not feel like getting home, changing my clothes and rushing back out of the house again. So I did 10 rounds of the HELL drills followed by 2 45 second planks.
I was absolutely starving and kept picking at stuff and then I only got half my portion of dinner to still hit my cals and macros. The worst part was I was trying to wait dinner for Shawn, who had to work 12 hours, and when he came home at 8:30 and I was ready to gnaw my own arm off, he said he ate dinner at work and was stuffed. I don't blame him for eating if he was hungry. I just should have eaten when I was ready and re-heated for him if necessary.
Today is a rest day, which is good because my body hurts!
Food Plan
Breakfast: 1 scoop cookies & cream protein, 1.5 cups milk - once I dug out the right scoop instead of using the old one, I realized that I had bought a slightly different product with a different serving size. Using the right amount, the cookies & cream flavor was delicious!
Morning snack: 1 can tuna w/hot sauce and 1 hard-boiled egg
Lunch: frozen salisbury steak healthy choice meal
Afternoon snack: 1 can tuna w/ 1/2 cup cottage cheese
Dinner: large roasted chicken breast and leftover collard greens
Yesterday we went skiing! I haven't skied in 6 or 7 years and Shawn hasn't in 10, but he used to live in Colorado and work at Vale running the lifts and he is really good. The skiing around here isn't like in the west, but still fun.
The weather was absolutely beautiful, high 20's and blue skies and sunny. When we were on the lifts the sun beating down on my black pants was actually hot! It was the best feeling. I never was very good and I would always get cold and complain about my boots hurting my feet. The rental boots were pretty comfortable and they gave me these kinda short wide skis and it seemed so easy! Apparently the resort just upgraded all their rental equipment last season. I was trying all these slopes I had always been too scared to try before and not even falling. I was so suprised and happy with myself. I think it was a combination of the equipment being a lot better and easier to use, and me not being nearly as much of a weenie as I used to be. We are going again to a bigger place in New York in two weeks and staying over night.
Food for yesterday:
Breakfast: english muffin with egg, bacon, asiago cheese
Midmorning snack: apple and nuts
Lunch: chili, green salad, beer
Dinner: tuna sandwich, banana, beer
but he used to live in Colorado and work at Vale running the lifts and he is really good. The skiing around here isn't like in the west, but still fun.
Lucky dog!!!
I love to ski but haven't been in years. Of course, I suck at it but that's never stopped me from having fun at anything! LOL Have you ever heard the song "Super Skier" from the Chad Mitchell Trio? It's so freaking funny! I think they wrote that about me.
(I tried to find it on YouTube but couldn't. I'm a search-tard, though.)
sounds like fun! I've only been a couple times in my life, and spent more time on my butt than on the skis!! I've never really had a desire to try again!
Tracey-
I was worried I would be on my butt all day too, but somehow it didn't happen. I was telling my mom how it must be the really great new equipment. She was like, Leah, you are in way better shape than back then, don't you think that has something to do with it. I never thought of that.
BTW, where do you get all those little characters? They are so funny.
Warm-up @ 5.2, 3 min
1 min @ 7.5, 2 min @ 5.2
1 min @ 8.0, 2 min @ 5.2
1 min @ 8.0, 2 min @ 5.2
1 min @ 8.0, 2 min @ 5.2
I'm not that great of a runner and I never had the treadmill up that high before. It was exciting!
Today's food:
Breakfast: english muffin w/pb
Morning snack: cottage cheese w/strawberries
Lunch: chili cheese black bean enchiladas
Before workout: orange
After workout: 1 scoop cookies & cream prot, 1 cup milk
Dinner: 1 cup cooked pasta, 1 cup hot pepper and sausage tomato sauce, roasted asparagus
Skiiing experiences are almost entirely based on fitness level in my humble opinion. I have been to the slopes when not fit and when fit and the enjoyment level when not fit is WAY down there.
So you'll be starting stage 2 soon as well. I can't wait to read how that goes for you. So far the ladies seem to be really challenged by it and loving the challenge.
Nice work, Leah!! I am super impressed with your Push Press. Now, if you hadn't explained that last set, I would have thought you did 35 TOTAL pounds! You should put 35's instead of 35, so we know how super strong you really are!!! WOW! I can't imagine ever hefting a 35 lb DB over my head. That is great!
By the way, today is my first day with my Mr. Bento and I love it!!
Nice workout and the skiiing sounds so fun! I have never done skied, before. I'll bet those muscles you have now, make it all a little easier.
Thanks Ginny! Although I kind of regret not being athletic at all during high school, it is cool to keep trying new things and improving yourself as an adult.
Nice job on the workout, especially those intervals!!!
Thanks! BTW, I know you are going to get back into those jeans. Congratulations on getting to eat again!

Hey Karla-
Actually I'm still doing the original new rules. I have the women's book, but haven't started it yet. As usual when I come to the end of a program I am wavering about what to do next. It seems like the women's version focuses more on single leg work, which I have read will help lean out the legs better (with the right diet, of course.)

Thanks Jane! I'm glad you like the Mr. Bento. What did you put in it?
Today is a rest day, and my brother is coming in tonight for a short visit. He is totally broke and I always like to take him out to a nice dinner, but I am trying to juggle everything so we can eat out on a lifting day. Maybe he'll come to the gym with me tomorrow night and then we can go out.
Today's food:
Breakfast: shake w/cookies & cream prot, 1 cup milk
Morning snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 can tuna, hot sauce
Lunch: pasta e fagioli soup
Afternoon snack: 8 oz chicken breast
Dinner: Texas Thin Crust Pizza - this is a recipe from the sample of the new gourmet nutrition, hopefully it will be tasty
I don't think I planned the day's food all that well. I would have rather had more carbs and less fat. I already feel that funky, light-headed low carb feeling. Yuck!

I know AND HATE that feeling!!!!! I usually have a piece of fruit when I get that way!
I 'assumed' that the dip was part of a super 'tri' set but now am not sure, so will have to check the book which is in the back of my car. I love the variety of a tri set and sad to say I adored the fat loss programs (I know I'm sick).
Trader Joe's . . . I am not a fancy cook and will resort to fast food if there is not something easily available for me to eat and TJ's fits the bill EVERY TIME!
There is so much there to enjoy . . . yogurts, cottage cheese, frozen berries, prepackaged single serving nuts, meats, fish, nukem veggies . . the list goes on and on. I also get their bergamot green tea . . yum. Makes 'clean' eating easy.
Enjoy your new 'puter' and eat a SF altoids . . hopefully it will shame the chocolate eating butthead next door and take care of any cravings you have!

Hey Tracey-
It always seems like I don't have enough cals for fruit! I like eating lots of protein and not feeling too hungry, but I'm still dialing everything in. It is a pretty interesting experiment!

Hey Toni-
I thought I liked the fat loss programs, but I enjoyed the strength ones much better when I was doing them! I think my main decision is - can I mentally handle dieting for a little longer while doing Fat Loss III. I know I can still lose weight with any lifting program depending on what I eat, but it just seems smarter to make my diet and lifting program match.
Today's plan:
Do some quick intervals - either run outside or do drills.
Breakfast: 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 cup milk, 1 tbls pb
Morning snack: 1/2 texas thin crust pizza - turned out yummy!
Lunch: the other half of the pizza
Afternoon: 1/2 cup cottage cheese & frozen strawberries
Dinner: my plan is to take my brother to Outback Steakhouse and I will order salmon, sweet potato, and green beans

It certainly is an experiment!!! I'm using that same thought process with the daily weighing the Leigh has me doing for trending purposes. I used to let the number on the scale freak me out - not anymore - It's kinda neat to watch the day to day changes!
Leah, you are doing so great and you sound so pumped! I'm gonna check out Mr. Bento!
Edited to add: I just saw your swimsuit pics on page 4! You are such an inspiration! Wow! I hope I can do at least somewhere near what you have done! Awesome!!

I am thinking of trying to do some daily trending, but I definitely need to learn to separate my emotions from the whole thing.

Karen - Thank you so much! The Mr. Bento is cool. I love gadgets.
Yesterday when I came home from work my two new cookbooks had arrived and my food scale! Shawn and I and my brother messed around with the food scale a bit. I really like it. This morning I had a piece of toast that was the end piece and I knew it wasn't a full slice, so I just weighed it. It was actually only 28g, instead of the 49g slice the bag said. This will take out the guesswork and also make me more accountable I think.
Last night I was so tired and I just wanted to hang out with my brother. He asked me to make him some fudge since he wasn't home for Christmas. So my eating did not turn out so good and I did not get any exercise.
Instead of eating out, we ordered a pizza and I ate three pieces of fudge and picked at some cheerios and raisins. My macros came out to the following:
2071 cals
77g fat 34%
226g carb 42%
126g prot 25%
Today's plan:
I am taking him to the airport around 4PM so I'll go straight to the gym after that for my last workout of Fat Loss I.
I weigh EVERYTHING on my scale - including my scoops of protein powder!! A full scoop is NEVER the full serving size, so I was actually short changing myself in the past. OTOH - things like PB - I was overly generous with the TBLS!!!
My hubby laughs at me when I make him mesaure EVERYTHING in grams - I always tell him I'm going to tell my trainer when he doesn't measure something!
I am awaiting The Bodyart Cookbook. It should be here anyday! I love cookbooks!
Me too!!! I had the original version from about 6 or 7 years ago and just recently discovered there is a NEW and IMPROVED version! I quickly wrote my check!!!
I LOVE the Flapjack recipe, and have consumed mass quantities of the bodyart bars!!!!

Cool! I can hardly wait! My hubby is low carbing and doing NROL. He has lost 10 pounds in no time. However, my son and I do not want to low carb so I thought I could use this alot for us and just double the recipes, perhaps. We'll see.....Hopefully, it will make things simple.

I just got back from lifting and you are right, the protein does come up short. I got a heaping scoop instead of a level one!

I'll have to try that one.

Hi Tracey -
Of course I want to spend time with my family, but I've always got a plan to squeeze in the next workout! We live pretty close to the airport so it was on the way more or less.

I love him dearly, but he is a bad influence food-wise. The fudge went with him!
I just got back from dropping off my brother and then the gym. We had a wonderful lunch at the Church Brew Works, a former catholic church turned into a brew pub. I had a delicious asian pork soup. It had really tender chunks of pork and stir-fry style veggies in broth. Then I had a salmon fillet over mashed sweet potatoes with sauteed spinach. It had a little drizzle of cranberry around it that was delicious! I also had two slices of yummy bread with herb butter.
Last night my brother wanted to go to the mall because he didn't have any jeans with him. We went in the Gap and I broke down and had the lady measure me and bought three new 36A bras. Although going down a cup size sucks, I look a million times better wearing the right size bra. What was I thinking waiting so long? The good news is, that means I am leaner than I have ever been. I am getting excited for the next measurements and pictures.
Both the recipes turned out awesome! They were both very simple to make too. I put everything together in around 15 or 20 minutes.
Today is going a little rough. We are going to the funeral home for a co-worker whose son was killed in a car accident. I did not get along with him, but I feel like its the right thing to do, and I am somewhat apprehensive. Our department secretary is a candy fiend and I ate some of her message hearts. Bad bad bad!
Today's food:
Breakfast: smoothie w/milk, chocolate yogurt, peanut butter, banana, and 1 scoop choc protein powder
Morning snack: spicy meat and tomato sauce over pasta
Lunch: texas thin crust pizza, message hearts
Afternoon snack: last slice of texas thin crust pizza
Dinner: salmon and collards
Macros could be better. I plan to do drills at home, or maybe drag myself to the gym to do some intervals on the treadmill. I stayed up too late and I'm pretty tired, but I really should go to Costco, which is right by the gym. Maybe I can bribe myself with a huge tub of cottage cheese or $8 package of precut butternut squash or something!
So I have come up with my plan. I am going to put off the bulking phase for a couple more weeks. I feel like my leaning out phase is going successfully for the most part and I want to hang on to the momentum if I can. I asked Shawn if he is okay with it, since I know my eating habits effect him too. He said I haven't been bad in the crabbiness department and he likes everything I've been cooking so he has no complaints. I usually modify stuff by adding pasta or rice to his and giving him a bigger serving. He said he is cool with not having ice cream and treats in the house, its not a big deal.
I am going to jump right into Fat Loss III on Friday and I should be finished the week before Easter. Then I can take a rest week and start the bulking phase with a hearty Easter dinner!
