Snacks: broccoli, string cheese, beef jerky

Lunch: leftover salmon and roasted broccoli medley

Dinner: grilled chicken salad w/cheese and ranch dressing

Pre & post workout, 2 scoop protein shake w/water

Evening snack: deli ham and turkey, cheddar cheese
Congrats on getting to lift again!! I'm so addicted to it myself. LOL

I'm the same way about fats. I just don't like them and they make me feel like complete crap. I'm still trying to adjust...

Hey Kelly-

It does suck to wait, but I'm glad I took the rest because I feel like I came back strong!

Yeah, I was thinking to myself, maybe this is how fat controls your appetite - it gives you a major belly ache so you don't want to eat!

Recap of yesterday (day 3)

Besides what I mentioned, I ate a jalapeno & cheddar sausage / hot dog type thing from one of those machines with the rollers at the convenience store. It tasted good!

Acne: 5 - My face is looking like a pepperoni pizza today!
Skin rash: 1
Migraines: none
Headaches: none, yeah!
Heartburn: 1
canker sores/cold sores: 1

Sleep: 1
Mood: 4 - slightly above average, especially considering various issues at work
Work Productivity: (scale of 1 - 7) 3 - slightly above avg, my head felt clear and I got some stuff done

Now for the exciting part: last night's workout

Hyp II A1

superset of barbell reverse-grip bent over row and bench press, 321 tempo, 90 sec rest

75/3 85/3
85/3 85/3
85/3 90/3
90/3 90/3
90/3 90/3
90/3 90/3

I like the reverse grip on the rows, it felt different and good! I also liked the slower tempo. The slow lowering made me really concentrate on the bench.

superset of wide-grip cable seated row and dumbbell incline bench w/palms facing each other, 321 tempo, 90 sec rest

100/3 35's/3
100/3 30's/3
110/3 30's/3
110/3 30's/3
110/3 30's/3
110/3 30's/3

Again, the change of hand position on the bench was cool. It seemed like it added a stability challenge.

Dips

BW/3
BW/3
BW/3
BW/3
BW/3
BW/2

These were so pathetic! I couldn't really tell, but I was probably bending my elbow about 2 degrees and they were agonizingly difficult. I am thinking I will have to figure out a way to use my iron woody bands for these when I get into the higher rep sets, since the gym doesn't have an assisted pull-up machine.

Swiss ball crunch

15lb dumbbell/12
15/12
15/12

Overall, I really enjoyed this workout and I did not feel any yuckiness or weakness from the low carb diet.

You're kicking butt. Awesome workout.

I know you lost a lot of weight leading up to this point and you say you're having trouble dropping to lower body fat levels. What's your BF% now? And what's your goal? Just curious!

It's cool that you're keeping track of mood/skin/sleep, etc...I know they're all related to food and energy, but I've never kept tabs on it. Maybe I'll start tracking, too...

Hey rixa-

My scale says I'm at 23%, so I would really like to get under 20%. Also, maybe it doesn't really matter, but I have always had chubby legs ever since I was a kid and I want them to lean out. My mom would always tell me "women with legs like ours shouldn't wear shorts." Well dammit, I want to be a woman who should wear shorts! I know this is highly subjective ... My other main goal is to be able to do a set up 10 chin-ups, which will require improving my strength to body-weight ratio.

Today's food plan:

Breakfast: bacon, scrambled egg, cheddar cheese

Morning snack: mixed nuts, beef jerky, string cheese

Lunch: rotisserie chicken breast, salad w/dark leafy greens, cheddar, vinaigrette dressing

Afternoon snack: leftover salmon and roasted broccoli medley

Dinner: broiled parmesan tilapia & collard greens

Yesteday's food changed a bit. When I went to the store they were out of tilapia, so I bought the stuff to make the Sausage w/Spinach & Feta from the book. I put in about half the feta they recommended because last time I made it, it came out too salty. This time was just right! We really liked this dish.

Today's plan:

Breakfast: scrambled eggs w/ham and cheddar

Morning snack: broccoli, red bell pepper, ham strips, cheddar & asiago cheese

Lunch: leftover sausage w/spinach & feta

Afternoon snack: 1 can tuna w/mayo

Dinner: trying for the tilapia and collards again

Pre & post workout shake: 2 scoops prot powder w/water & ice

Evening snack: beef jerky

This evening I will do Hyp II B1 - the lower body workout.

I am excited because we got a call last night from the owner of a martial arts place that we checked out. Next Tuesday is our first class, a semi-private lesson where he will evaluate our abilities to see what class we should be in.

I don't really know much about the different styles, but the one my boyfriend decided he wanted to take is Jeet Kune Do. I guess it is supposed to be less structured than some other arts? I guess I'll learn.

Well today's "plan" went totally out the window! Shawn called me around 9:30 this morning and told me he got fired for kicking in the face of a pop machine that stole his $5. Both of us were really upset, obviously, and I told my boss what happened and that I was going home. (This is the reason we are taking martial arts - to hopefully channel his anger issues toward something more constructive.) I felt for a while that he wasn't very happy in this job and was trying to convince him to start looking for something else.

I am proud of myself because of course on the way home I just wanted to buy a bunch of carby crap and stuff my face, but I didn't do it. I had my lunch with me, so I just ate my ham and cheese and red pepper strips in the car.

We spent the day talking and I feel better about everything now. The union hall is trying to get it changed to a layoff because they have a manpower shortage and want to put him to work somewhere else. We ended up going out for lunch at Bahama Breeze. I ordered steak and chicken kebabs with onions, peppers, mushrooms and zucchini. It was really good, but it definitely had some type of glaze on it because it tasted sweet. It wasn't like you could scrape it off, so hopefully there was not too much. I will definitely know better next time that I need to just order a plain steak and veggies to be safe.

I am drinking my protein shake and heading for the gym shortly.

Leah - ugh - I'm sorry for the crappy day, but PROUD of you for not giving in to the emotional eating - I know how hard that is (not that I ever do it... uh... yeah... sure...).

Ah... Bruce Lee's style (I think - or am I going senile?)! I've never tried it - can't wait to hear more about it!

Thanks for the sympathy! I am feeling much better today. Sometimes stuff gets me down pretty hard, but it usually doesn't last very long because I talk myself into feeling better. Shawn sometimes thinks I am the most sickeningly optimistic person he's ever met.

Last night's workout was great! I just love these workouts because they look so simple on paper and kick your ass so hard.

Hyp II B1

Snatch-grip deadlift, 90 sec rest

135/6
135/6
135/6
135/6
135/6

I think I was cheating on the grip before. I read the description in the book once more and he said to have your thumbs on the rings of the bar. I don't think I ever had my arms out that far before.

Superset Dynamic lunge & step-ups, 90 sec rest between all sets

85/6ea 30's/6ea
85/6ea 30's/6ea
85/6ea 30's/6ea
85/6ea 30's/6ea
85/6ea 30's/6ea

This superset was killer. Even after the 90 sec rests I was still breathing pretty hard!

Incline reverse crunch, 60 sec rest

BW/12
BW/9 - lowered the incline one rung after I couldn't finish the set
BW/10 - still couldn't finish, my abs were on fire!

My abs are still pretty sore this morning.

Today's food plan:

Breakfast: leftover chicken & beef kebabs, broccoli, skewered veggies

Lunch: chef salad w/turkey, cheese, hard-boiled egg, dark greens, and tomatoes

Dinner: TNT meatballs over spaghetti squash - I never tried spaghetti squash before, but Diane's newfound love inspired me

Not sure what snacks will be but I think I have enough stuff around I don't have to sweat it.

Here's my stuff from yesterday:

Acne: 3 - My face is healing
Skin rash: 1
Migraines: none
Headaches: no headaches
Heartburn: 1
canker sores/cold sores: 1

Sleep: 1
Mood: 2 - very good, especially considering everything
Work Productivity: (scale of 1 - 7) 7 - hard to be productive when you leave after two hours. Oh well, I'll pick it up again on Monday.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad day. But good for you for keeping on plan.

Bruce Lee is incredible. Have you read about him at all? Check out his Wikipedia entry:

Bruce Lee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now, it's Wikipedia, so there are questions about the validity of all of it, but what an amazing man. I especially like the section about his training - hardcore! Some of his physical feats sound like those things people make up about Chuck Norris...

Quote:
Lee could throw grains of rice up into the air and then catch them in mid-flight using chopsticks.
I have now totally lost my train of thought...

Man, that Hypertrophy workout looks tough. I've just started Fat Loss 1 (I'm through A1 and B1), and boy, I've been sore all week! It's definitely been a week with a lot of rest in it for me...

I LOVE spaghetti squash. You probably don't get butter on TNT, but spaghetti squash with butter (or olive oil) and some salt - mmmm. I never though I'd like squash and this is what changed my mind. Yum.

OOOH, we can have all the butter we want on TNT! Right, Leah!

OK, so I guess i'll have to try this spaghettie squash. What does it taste like?
