Hey Karen-
I'll have to try it with a bench and see if I can get a bigger difference in resistance.
Well it's Thursday and my back is still bothering me. I am still hoping I can get back into my lifting on Monday, but I am getting a little worried.
I am also trying to work on paying closer attention when I'm eating. I think it is going to be crucial to success with TNT to eat more mindfully. I caught myself a couple times this week shoveling in a meal and suddenly noticing I was too full. It got me thinking, why do I eat the amount I eat - because that's what I put on my plate, because that's how much comes in a package, because that's what the recipe said was a serving? It seems like it is rarely because that is how much I am hungry for.

Yup, I've found that my eyes are bigger than my stomach in many cases from following TNT principles. If I remember correctly it's a 20 minute delay between the time you're full and the time the brain registers that fact, so perhaps eating more slowly will help with calories.

Hi Tracey -
Rest week is going okay. I feel like my body is still trying to recover from all the work. I haven't really done anything physical or even felt like it, and I've been sleeping a lot.
Today is the first day I'm going to exert myself at all. I decided to join the plant volunteer fire department this year and this afternoon is my first training drill. I am pretty nervous. Basically they are filling up this room in a basement with smoke and we have to go in and rescue the fire training dummy. They had me go in earlier since I'm new to the fire department. I'm not sure if it was the air pack digging into my shoulders or the plastic-y smell of the mask, but I feel nauseated. The last thing I want is to get sick during the drill! I didn't even have my bunker gear on and I was already sweating - it is going to be hot. Hopefully I will do okay.

20 minutes is probably longer than I would sit down for most meals. I'll have to think about that.

Hope you're starting to feel more rested while you take time off this week. The volunteer drill sounds really great - pretty inspirational, I'd say =D

Hey Karen - I am really glad I decided to take the whole week off. I am looking forward to Monday and getting back into things!

Hey Tracey-
The drill went pretty well. I didn't panic or get sick or anything! This sounds so silly, but I didn't realize how physically hard it would be. I felt like I didn't really do that much, just walked up and down some steps and carried the rescue dummy, with a bunch of other people. But with all that heavy gear and the mask making it hard to breath, I was exhausted on the way home.

Hey marygrace-
I am feeling more rested. I am back to my old self who can stay up past 9PM. Oh well, I'm sure that will go away again starting Monday.
Here's some pictures from the drill. When I look at these, I'm not sure how the guy taking the picture even knew they were me. Maybe because my gear has obviously never been used in any emergency, its so clean!

Leah, I hope your back is feeling better now. That sounds like quite a drill!
I just wanted to add that when you try your pullups with the bench, put it about a foot behind where you're going to be doing your pullups and step into it from there so you don't keep hitting while you're working.

Great job on the drill - and glad to hear you didn't get sick! Those are great pics!! I'm sure all the adrenaline pumping during the drill made you exhausted when it was all said and done!

I've been eyeballing the Iron Woody bands since I saw them mentioned here but I just haven't been able to justify the cost for something I'd not use on a permanent basis. What things other than pull ups, if any, have you used (or considered using) them for?
TNT says not to track, to just eat until satisfied. Ha. I have to still track my calories or I'd be blowing up like a whale!

Hey Karen-
Thanks for the tip! I was going to try it again tomorrow, but I found out I have to work all evening. So my first day of weights will now be Wednesday. In all honesty, my back is still very sore and two more days may not hurt.

So far I have only used the bands for pullups or chinups. I'll have to think about what else I could do with them.
I'm kind of irritated that I will not be starting Hyp II tomorrow, but waiting until Wednesday. I have to work tomorrow night, and I promised Shawn we would go on Tuesday night to a martial arts school to check out taking classes. I have never had the slightest interest in doing martial arts, but I told him I would give it a fair try.
However, I am going full speed ahead on TNT starting tomorrow morning. I breezed through Costco and picked up enormous bags of salad mix, tomatoes, broccoli, and bell peppers, as well as turkey, ham, and salmon, and beef jerky. I'm ready! I'm going to try not to have to track, but I know I've got a great big appetite.
I'm going to write in my log what I eat and if I achieved the goal of "satisfied, not stuffed" for each day. If anyone sees stuff that's not TNT plan A compliant, let me know.
Now I'm going to soak my back and eat ice cream!

TNT Plan A Day 1
Okay, I am starting TNT plan A today! There was a bunch of stuff in the book about monitoring how you feel and your various ailments like zits, headaches, etc. So I'm planning to record all that stuff in my book as well.
I stayed up too late last night, so I don't expect to feel that great today anyways, we'll see.
Food plan:
Breakfast: black forest ham, scrambled egg, cheddar cheese
Snacks: tuna w/mayo, 1 serving mixed nuts, beef jerky
Lunch: huge bowl of mixed greens, tomatoes, more tuna w/mayo, oil and vinegar salad dressing
Dinner: Not sure yet - have to work tonight so I will probably pick up another salad
Evening snack: small glass of wine

I hope you like TNT. I'm always interested in reading about peoples' experiences with it because it seems like it works really well. (I don't think there is any way I could do a program like TNT, given that I don't eat any meat!) I'm curious to learn about any changes you go through, with the clearing skin or headaches or anything like that.

I am just finishing Hypertrophy II -- lurved it dearly (as much as anyone who is not sane loves Alwyn's programs!). I hope you like it as much as I did -- the only thing I didn't master was the towel bicep curls and that was my fault as I never remembered to bring long enough towels with me and the gym only has these little short things.
These are some tools that help me during meals:
1. Measure your food -- if you don't want to weigh it fine, but use your palm (both palms for veggies, 1 palm for protein) and thumb for fat measurements. Cook only what you need, package the rest in the fridge before sitting down to eat.
2. Eat 3 bites of protein for every 1 bite of veggie/starch. If you are still hungry after finishing your plate, go back for more protein.
2. Put your food on a small plate. I use sushi dishes.
3. Plan on making your meal last at least 20-30 minutes. Time it!! No watching TV or reading. Just eat and enjoy each mouthful.
4. Take small bites, chew each bite at least 30 times.
5. Put your fork/spoon down between bites.
6. No drinking with your meal or at least 30 minutes afterwards. It's okay to drink before your meal.
okay okay, I'm not the worlds best list maker, I see there are 2 #2's -- whateveh! I hope some if not all of these help.
Between red leather riding pants and shiney yellow fireman's clothes you are looking hot!!!
