Well I generally have to be the driver, so I can't get too crazy! I did get Shawn to drive on Christmas Eve and made myself pretty sick for about the first half of Christmas day. It sucked.

Thanks Tracey!

Now that I am not torturing myself over food I have nothing to say - just kidding. I feel great! I have energy and my head doesn't hurt and I'm not cranky and I got a ton of stuff done at work today. Yeah!!!!

Tonight is a lifting night - Fat Loss III A5, just four more workouts to go!

Well I didn't lift Monday night. I was really tired and I went to bed early. I did the workout last night.

Fat Loss III A5 - Just one more time!

Giant set of deads, explosive push-ups, BSS, two-point dumbbell row, 60 sec rest after whole set

145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30/10ea
145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30/10ea
145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30/10ea
145/10 BW/10 30's/10ea 30/10ea

Giant set deads off box, dumbbell bench press, walking lunge w/side bend, cable seated row, 60 sec rest after whole set

85/20 25's/20 25's/20 80/20
85/20 25's/20 25's/20 80/20

The first four sets went great but I slowed down a bit on the last two. I was mainly concentrating on not doing a Karla and losing my dinner. If it was going to happen, I wasn't making it to the ladies room either, since that's on the other side of the building.

Hanging leg raise

BW/10
BW/10

The only place to hang from is in the cable rack between the two pulley stations. During my last set, this guy was trying to squeeze in to do his tricep crap. He was basically standing there with his head right in my armpit. I know that was a nasty place to be right then, what the hell, you can't wait 30 seconds?

I got my order from Lush last night and went home and took a bubblebath! I opened the box and we sniffed each item and oohed and aahed for a while. I got a sample of honey I washed the kids soap that I used this morning - delicious.

I admit I am having some angst about this dieting break. I keep thinking I will gain weight and on April 1st I'll weight the same as the beginning of January.

The thing is, I know my body needs this break. I am almost shocked by how much better I feel. The last couple weeks there were so many days I was just sitting in my office in a fog trying to pull myself together and get my work done. The last couple days I feel so sharp mentally! And last night's workout went a lot better.

On the way home from work I thought this is the way to go - I should just keep eating enough food and focus on my job, get a big raise / bonus and get liposuction for my thighs. Ha ha, just kidding.

Leah,
Hey Girl. I missed a lot while I was gone and I hate that you struggle so much with the food stuff. I mean, we all do, but it just makes me sad and trust me, I have my own food issues.
It sounds like you are on to something and I do think it is good that you are taking a little break from the logging and such. I've been doing something similiar and just trying my damnest to not be a freak.
Hang in there. Your workouts are amazing!
The St. Patty's Day sounds like fun. I love that day and love to see people celebrating it.

It occurs to me that if you are having huge cravings that you need to recheck your macros. I used to crave until I got my macros in the right range for me. 40,40,20 is the range that works for me.

Also, what is this "pulling a Karla" thing? Puke one time and nobody lets you forget about it.

I, too, am so glad to hear you're taking a diet break!! It's painful for me, being a pig, to watch someone struggle with hunger. Enjoy the break!

Awesome workout. Keep up the great work! Its really great that you've gotten to a manageable place, food-wise, and are feeling good.

Also, I love Lush! Everything smells so great, and I like how the products are all-natural. A lot of them are animal-free as well, which is great for me!

Thanks Ginger. I did take a break for a whole month back in the fall and my weight stayed the same, so I am telling myself don't worry, just recharge.

Hey Karla-
That is one reason I decided I am going to try TNT. Other people have reported their hunger and cravings went away. The priniciple I guess is that fat and protein are much better for satiation than carbs. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the sypathy Diane! I hate being hungry. I can tell my break is working because I ate one cookie last night for dessert without wanting to polish off the box. Yeah!

Thanks marygrace. I didn't know the stuff from Lush was animal-free. That's awesome! We were talking last night about what the store must smell like. Next time I visit my parents in Portland I am definitely going.

Hey Girl!
How's your week been going? Sounds like things are starting to even out, which is good to see. Good for you for treating yourself to some luxurious bath products, stuff like that is just good for the soul.
Glad to read that you were able to stop at the "one cookie"--I'm still at the "eating the whole box" stage which is why cookies are not allowed within one city block of my house!

Leah:

Great on the deads. As for the cookies, they're my downfall. I find it easier not to buy them than to resist.

As for the time off, I wouldn't think it likely you'd undo all your hard work with a break.

Hey LoriAnne-

This week is going well. I should be done with Fat Loss III Sunday, and then I am not going to do any structured workouts for a full seven days, just whatever I feel like. I am still having weird moments about not knowing what I'm eating, but its getting better.
I hope everything goes well at the doctor today.

Hey Brent-
Thanks for checking out my log.
I know you're right, taking time off actually makes you better and stronger. I think it is just coming from being heavy and feeling like every day I don't workout is making me fatter!
I told my boyfriend to hide the scale and I was actually looking for it under the bed yesterday until I told myself to chill out.

Yesterday's workout

Fat Loss III B5 - Getting close!

Giant set of front squats, band assisted chin-ups, step-ups, dumbbell push press, 60 sec rest after whole set

105/10 med band/10 30's/10ea 30's/10
105/10 md/10 30's/10 ea 30's/10
105/10 md/9.5 30's/10ea 30's/10
105/10 md/9 30's/10ea 30's/10

Giant set of squats, wide-grip lat pulldown, step-ups, dumbbell shoulder press, 60 sec rest after whole set

105/20 75/20 20's/20ea 15's/20
105/20 75/20 15's/20ea 15's/20

Swiss-ball crunch

15lb dumbbell / 10
15 / 10

I was a little bummed because I was hoping to get all 10 reps for the chin-ups on this workout. I had to drop the weight for the last set of step-ups because I was starting to feel really nauseous.

I have the day off work today. Yeah!!! The only bummer is I have so much stuff planned it will be busier than work: get the car inspected, get a key made, grocery shop two days before easter , etc.

I'm so with you on the food. I can't believe how much better I feel when I eat enough. It makes all the difference in the world.

I think cutting has it's place, but I think that it works best in short spurts and with certain programs. When we start overdoing the cutting, we run the risk of messing up our heads and making it hard to eat right when we aren't cutting or knowing when to take a break. At least that's what I'm running in to.

I'm so glad you are trying to work this out. Good luck to you!

Hey mel-

I think you are right that setting a period of time for cutting is important. When i thought about it I realized I was doing the calorie cycling thing from HELL for about three months when I just fell apart. Well I imagine it was designed as a 90 day program for a reason!

I have been reading the TNT diet book and it is billed as a 12 week program, although I know many people have done it for much longer. I am setting as my goal to follow for 12 weeks and re-evaluate at that point.

Thanks for your input!

The food thing is such a BEAST! We only have to conquer it!

I feel like Conan the destroyer today .

We'll work it out. It is nice to see everyone's experiments, it cuts my time in half!

Happy Easter

Hey Kelly-
You are so right, we will get it right one way or another. I hope you had a great Easter too!

Here are my workouts for the weekend.

Saturday - Fat Loss III A6

Giant set of deads, explosive push-ups, BSS, two-point dumbbell row, 60 sec rest after whole set

145/10 BW/10 25's/10ea 25/10ea
145/10 BW/10 25's/10ea 25/10ea
145/10 BW/10 25's/10ea 25/10ea
145/10 BW/10 25's/10ea 25/10ea - I used 30's for the BSS and rows in some of the previous workouts. However, working out at home I have the dumbbells where you put the weight on a small bar, so it seems a bit heavier than at the gym.

Giant set of deads off box, dumbbell bench press, walking lunge w/side bend, cable seated row (subbed bent-over row), 60 sec rest after whole set

85/20 25's/18 25's/20 55/20
85/20 25's/16 25's/20 55/20

Hanging leg raise

BW/10
BW/10

This workout did not go too badly and I was really happy to put it behind me!

Today's workout - Fat Loss III B6 - Finished !!!!!

Giant set of front squats, band assisted chin-ups, step-ups, dumbbell push-press, 60 sec rest after whole set

105/11 small band/10 30's/10ea 30's/6
105/10 sm/9 30's/10ea 30's/8
105/10 sm/8 25's/10ea 25's/9
105/10 sm/7 25's/10ea 25's/10 - I struggled with the push-presses, partially because my workout room is in the basement and the ceiling is low and I can barely extend my arms all the way overhead. I kept bashing the ceiling, which was extra resistance I didn't need!

Giant set of squats, wide-grip overhand pull-up (band assisted), step-up, dumbbell shoulder press, 60 sec rest after whole set

105/20 lg band/15 15's/20ea 15's/20
105/20 lg/14 15's/20ea 15's/20

Swiss-ball crunch

15lb dumbbell/10
15/10

I have a set of three iron woody bands for assisted chin-ups. I like them and I'm really glad I have them since I couldn't do these exercises at home without them. My one complaint is that they don't seem that different in the amount of assistance offered between small, med, and large. I read on the website that they will give more help if you stretch them more, so I played around hanging them off something different or putting them around both my knees instead of just one knee, but it didn't seem to help.
I am also curious to see if the are helping me in progressing on un-assisted chin-ups and pull-ups. If I have time I might check it out during my rest week.

My rest week - yeah!!!! My body is so ready for this. My right knee and lower back have been bothering me for over a week and I kept telling myself, just get through it. This was the first time since I started new rules that I actually considered quitting in the middle of a segment. It just felt impossible. I am really glad I got through it, but I think I need to schedule in advance my next rest week, instead of getting so close to burning out.

I made a huge dinner and I feel pretty stuffed and nauseous. Shawn kept teasing me about who I was expecting to come over with all the food I made. We had a ham, sweet potatoes that I did in the crockpot w/brown sugar, butter, pecans, and coconut flakes, green beans w/red onion and bacon, snap peas and asparagus, chips and taco dip, meatballs, cheese and crackers and cheesecake w/strawberries for dessert.
Good thing I worked out this morning! All those extra cals are building my muscles right? ha ha ha

I wonder why the difference resistance isn't working for you ? I can do 13-15 assisted pull-ups with a heavy assistance band, 8-10 with medium assistance, and 4-7 with the light assistance. (This is just for your reference in number variety with each band.) Have you tried using your foot in the band vs. using just a knee? Maybe you'll have better luck that way?

Glad to see you're doing better with your food. I see a lot of us have had a big food day for Easter, so you're not alone.

Your workouts look great and you've convinced me that I need the NROL book after finishing the NROL4W program. I also looked at the link with the HELL drills that you gave a while back, but the link to the actual program wouldn't load so I wasn't able to look at the drills .

I knew I should have come over. Good lord that sounds awesome.

Nice job on the deadlifts, btw... hell, the whole workouts for that matter. I'm looking forward to getting into the NROL workouts this summer.

Regarding the bands, I think they do help in workout your way towards unassisted pull-ups. I just read an article that mentioned them the other day.. MUSCLE WITH ATTITUDE - Ladies, You Can Conquer the Pull-Up

Hey Karen-

Someone else mentioned the same thing about the HELL drills. I wonder if she was only offering the program for a limited time?

The NROL book is great! I guess it really spoke to me more than the NROL4W book because I had been lifting weights for so long, but not effectively.

How do you get your foot in the band? Do you stand on a bench? I had to ask Shawn for help to get both knees in.

I love food and cooking! That is one thing I actually don't mind about dieting - I try practically every recipe people post.

NROL is cool. I love how the programs seem so simple, with just a few exercises, but they are so effective.

Stop by anytime.

I am so glad to have those workouts behind me. Although as far as pain, the Strength series was the worst. I was seriously considering getting professional massages just to get through it.

Hey marygrace-

Thanks for the link to the great article! It does mention that the bands can be a little hard to work with. I think I have to figure out a way to get it around my foot.

The Rest Week:

Well my body still feels pretty tired and my lower back is aching on the right side. Shawn spent a lot of time trying to get the knots out of my back last night and he could feel where it hurt before I even mentioned it. He said something is swolen on the right side of my lower back. I hope it will be better by next week from resting it.
I am still trying to chill out about eating. I'm convinced in my mind if I just eat I will be gaining weight back. It's so stupid!!!! This morning I had to try on my red pants to make sure I haven't morphed into my formerly large self overnight. I know I need to take a break from restricting so I can come back strong and motivated. I'm just having a tough time doing it.

I decided on the NROL4W because it had an entire program (no guessing) and a nutrition section for the program, which I needed. Not because I didn't know what I need to do, but because it's all in the same book. I was thinking of convenience and simplification. And, as someone who spent a lot of time with light weights and cardio, it's only in the last 6 months that I've tried anything truly challenging/heavy at all.

I figured that the HELL thing was a limited-time offering or computer issues, just wanted to let you know I didn't ignore the link you posted .

As for getting the foot in the band, yes, you need a step/bench/chair that puts you up to where you can get your foot in the band comfortably. It's a lot easier to get out of the band with something like that to stand on as well.
