Heather, do you have a video of the DB clean and press? I think I'd like to try that! I have an explosive movement at the beginning of all of my workouts now and most of them are using a BB and I'm a bit intimidated. Since I like the DB snatch, I am thinking maybe this DB clean and press might work for me, too.

OK!! So really not that much different than the 1-arm DB Snatch, do you think? Having done both, what would you say is the difference in the movement. Is it the stopping at the shoulder?

I think it is different then the DB Snatch - where the snatch is one full continuous movement, the clean and press is two distinct movements you combine cleaning the weight (to your shoulder) then pressing it up above your head... Does that make sense?

So, how much weight in comparison to a DB OH Press. I can do 25 lbs with the DB snatch, but I'm pretty weak in the OH press (17.5).

He's doing a push press to get the weight from shoulder to over his head, so take that into account when you're picking your weight.

I can only do as much weight as I do in my OH Press. I try to up it in my first round to see if I have gotten stronger in my OH press yet. I have tried 35# and 30# but am still stuck using a 25#. I can clean the other weights no problem I just cant press them.

I do a push press to get it the weight up - using my hips... still stuck at 25# I could probably do a few at the higher weight but not enough to finish my sets.

Maybe do some extra volume at 25 so as to help prepare for 30?

Well maybe I will do 3 sets of 6 and use the higher weight well my workout really calls for 1 to 2 sets of 6 or 8 so, i should do 2 sets at 30#...hmmmm LOLfficeffice" />
Well I would say i could practice on my other workout day when I do OH presses 3 x 8 @ 25#/e but they already kick my ass.

Next week I am going to do one workout trying to figure out my 3 and 1 rep maxes so I can do some goal setting. I am thinking of joining the goal setting challenge and maybe dropping the W.Challenge. I like the goal setting.

WTF!!!!
Today's Workout
5 dumbbell deadlifts
5 d.b. hang cleans
5 d.b thrusters (front squat w/push press)

Repeat this circuit on the minute for 20 min - rest depends on how fast you complete the circuit.

Alright this was Tony's idea of "spending time together"- I used 15# dumbbells, and brainiac had us do an extra set at 0:00. OH...my...god.... we did this outside in 91 degree heat and it was sooooo hard. BUT I DIT IT the whole thing no wussing out no giving up I pushed through (even the extra one). I even kept pace with Tony. It burned, it hurt, call me jelly. We will be swimming later, cant be soon enough at this point.

Damn! You got your warrior face on today. I'm doing a circuit workout myself these days but I'd not do it outside in this kind of heat. Total respect here.

Wow, I am hurtin' today from that little 20 minute "conditioning" workout. Yesterday my arms were sore but today...my legs hurt to even think about bending. I think the heat and swimming all afternoon delayed the onset of soreness. Oh well, rock on.

Dumbbell Swings 2 x 8 @ 35/e, 1 x 8 @ 40/e
Dead Lift 2 x 8 @ 115, 1 x 6 @ 120
Pulldown 3 x 6 @ 90

Alright man I am still sore from Sat. workout. My shoulders will not cooperate to up my weight on the OH PP I felt retarded walking the 30's back to the db rack to grab 25's. I am still pretty excited I can do push ups with ease now, since at the start of this fitness journey I couldnt do one.
