the folks over at PN have really inspired my creative cooking energy!
made a really cool take on beans and greens by combining amaranth, tongue of fire beans (fresh) , kale, multicolor peppers and onions, and a wonderful mexican spice with achiote, raw cacao powder for a yummy mole-inspired take on beans and greens. it really was tasty!! served it with fish.

Good results there Wendy - keep up the good work. As for the cooking, I find myself most inspired by Indian cuisine these days. I've been rocking a great recipe for aloo rajma (potato and red kidney bean curry) lately, and will branch out to others soon.

It's not my recipe, but I've been using it a lot. Aloo Rajma (I'm taking the 2nd cardamom entry as an error, and have been using cumin instead.)

the weight in the algorithm is by whole numbers, so I was 162.5 last week, which counted as 162. 162 this week. down 0.4 lb fat this week and up 0.4lb of muscle. I have to admit, I am eating a bit much of things like almond butter, nuts, avocados, and other nutrient dense things. and not following PN to a T. I am going to give it a real try this week and be 90 percent compliant. I am thrilled with overall results, which are down 3.5 lb of fat and up 1.5 pounds of muscle in 4 weeks, being half assed at this!!!
I will say it again, as I have written many times. I am willing to toy with cutting things a bit, but I am unwilling to follow rigid calorie restrictions, rigid restrictions of carbs and so on. I have worked too hard on emotional issues to ever allow myself to return to the "diet" mentality that contributed to my obesity. restriction over long periods of time leads to lowered metabolism and subsequent refeeding/overeating and fat gain. period. small tiny calorie deficits are AOK! sometimes when I read the tiny calories that people take in and the amount of activity that they do, it is triggering for me, because, on the one hand, I am tempted to follow suit, but on the other, I know for sure where that leads me. others maybe successful at this, but I certainly have not been. my body naturally tends to carry muscle, so restriction for me always backfires. some of my lankier, running build friends have no problem with this over the long haul, but I just can't sustain it. so far PN has been great, but I am allowing in some extras.
again, I have to decide how much of this is worth it in the long run.

Or, you could look at it this way... (as was told to me on my thread in the FLTS subforum) - just do it and get it over with. All your add-ons are just prolonging the fat loss process. I think it was Leigh that said (paraphrasing here) "It's not forever, it's for done."

Wendy I SO get what you are saying on the DIETING thing. That is what I am avoiding in my own life to the largest extent possible. I am not doing anything like DIETING but making real life changes that are sustainable. I am slowly getting to the point where that is happening for me at a different leve than a DIET level. It has been an amazing journey so far.

From a fellow "foodie" to another...I totally get it!! If you pop in on the FLTS forum, the diets some are following day in and day out are sooooo boring! You are proof that you can still ENJOY food, eat GOOD food, even gourmet food, and still lose weight, be healthy, and be fit. I think if I ever won the lottery, I'd quit my job, pay off all of my bills and head off to culinary school! Bravo to you!

hmmm tom, hadn't thought of it that way. you are giving me something to think about. slower loss has always meant sustainable loss. fast loss has meant regain. but mentally, I am in a different place now. we shall see.
karla! absolutely.
hey missjane, we really do have a lot in common. I have a retirement plan that has been in place for a couple of years. if all goes as planned, I am retiring in 10 years. we have friends who are going to buy a winery in northern cal. I am going to culinary school and will be their guest chef. healthy spa cuisine. (my current specialty, but I just wing it!) too funny.
thanks greg!
