bytsi. yep, came home, hubby doted on me in lots of fun ways and made it all better. then we went to a new wine bar that we have been wanting to try and tried several wines including CHOC-O-BLOC--an australian tawny port infused with dark chocolate. and then we had mexican food. can I just say YUMMMMMMM

do you all understand now why I continue to have some body fat despite my total dedication to my training????? lol. life is a total blast, I tell you.
I love, love, love your life!!

Pics are looking GOOD! You look so incredibly strong and ALIVE! I love that suit, too. I need to go shopping for a new one soon.

thanks diane!! I really do love food and I am going to continue to enjoy it. I would love to get leaner, but it has to be on my terms. and I am also ok if I stay here for the rest of my life. I admire people who can restrict entire food groups and treat type things for months at a time--and their results are amazing. but I know that doesn't work for me, so I am just going to keep chugging away at my slow pace.

thanks tcoy! knee got worse--realized last night it was infected and got on antibiotics. no major damage to it though, just swelling. I was really lucky. I hit that concrete bench going pretty fast. could have fractured my knee, torn a ligament. I will be happy with my infected gash, lol

I am reposting this here so I can find it. I have made some important connections for me, and I want to journal this:

the mental changes are what are particularly wonderful for me at this time. I posted some of this in ginger's log already, but one of the main things I have gained from this challenge is CONFIDENCE. I did this challenge without a trainer. in the past, I have looked to others to give me the secret to a lean, fit, healthy body, and I always believed that other people had the power to change me. I believed that as soon as I found the perfect trainer, diet, sport, ________(fill in blank), I would be lean, fit and happy.

this challenge has taught me that the power to change is WITHIN me, not external to me. trainers are professionals with specialized knowledge-they can guide me, but the power to live differently and look differently is within ME.

Because of this challenge, I was inspired to step up weight training from twice a week to three times a week. the improvment in my physical strength, and the growth of my muscles has resulted in an unbelievable sense of comfort in my body as it is today. I no longer judge my body harshly in the way that I have my entire life. as I watch myself lift in the gym, I don't focus on the extra skin around my abdomen, or the extra body fat that I still carry. I see strong, broad shoulders, I see the cuts of my delts. I see the outlines of my quads. I see the power of my hamstrings and calves. I see the roundness of my glutes for the first time ever ( I have never had much of a bum, lol) so at 44 years old, I actually am truly the happiest that I have ever been in my body. I appreciate my body and all of the cool things that I get to do everyday (like running full speed into concrete benches lol)

so, I know that I am not setting any speed records for fat loss. I agree with what many on this board have shown and believe: nutrition is key. and I eat very very well 80 percent of the time. but you can read about the activities of saturday night in my log to learn why I might never change my current scale weight, lol!!!!

but I am slowly returning to that person I used to be before I became obese. I am down around 70 pounds from my highest, and even though the scale weight has changed only minimally during this challenge, and the physical changes are modest at best, the mental changes have been extraordinary.

and for the first time since this journey to health began for me in june of 1999 weighing 228 pounds, I can say one thing loud and clear now that I couldn't say before this challenge:

I know FOR SURE that I am not going to return to an obese body. I am truly an obesity survivor. and learning that I can lift free weights confidently, heavily, and ON MY OWN has been the key to realizing that I have all of the tools I need to be a successful obesity su

Well done, Wendy. Having a trainer may get you to your goals quicker, but nothing compares to doing it on your own.

I agree tom. I might work with a trainer at some point in the future when I have a specific goal. but it sure feels wonderful to know that I have the tools to be self sufficient too.

Good stuff, Darlin'. You are making some great changes. I see a difference in your pictures, each and every month.

(Thanks for the post in my log. It helped me. )

thanks tcoy. oh and I swam with masters swim totally pain free--and I even kicked. so I am going to swim two more times this week and lift upper body. hopefully, the rest will enable me to run saturday, this time not into concrete benches.

LOL!! You go girl! Nothing like feeling empowered is it? That is the same thing I have learned doing this challenge. I have learned that I have the ability to be who I want to be weight-wise and how I want my body to be. Nothing in the world feels better!

woohoo karla. totally true!

ok, so the week from hell continues. my mammogram is abnormal. I called my radiology friend who def thinks I need more detailed films and ultrasound, which are scheduled this friday. he really doesn't think it is cancer though, but it is def a change from last year. get those mammo's if you are 40 or older!

Hope the mammo turns out ok... every time I get one (been doing them since I was 30 due to family history), they say there's a problem, call me back in, redo it over and over... then eventually say it's ok. I've had MRI's twice (which are much easier for them to read the first time) and then insurance decided I don't need them (they'd rather pay for the torture of repeated visits and redone mammos?)... Ugh!

Anyway - hope yours is fine and easier to read than mine are!

Wendy, fabulous progress, my friend! Glad your knee is on the mend ... and I have my mammo scheduled for the 24th. I had my baseline late since I was preggo or breastfeeding from 35-38 ... so this is my second in as many years. Ah well. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything turns out fine!
