Tricep and lats day
prone db cuban snatch 3x15 (15lb, 20lb, 25lb)
cable lat pull downs 3x15 (I didn't check the weight)
chin ups assisted 3x10 - these about killed me. My lats and tris were so sore they were numb and tingly. I felt like I had nothing left especially for pulls. I actually told him I couldn't do them once I got up on the bar. Of course that got me nothing but a tongue lashing. I can't believe I actually whined. (Doop)
We didn't really rest today and quit a bit early so we could plan out my workout for tomorrow. He wasn't thrilled with my cardio run on Sunday and wants me to stop working out my whole body all the time so that my body can rest a little bit. He also wants me to increase my cals again so I am shooting for 2200 or more a day until I can gain a freak'n pound.
I got my boa weight belt in the mail today and my hanging ab slings. I love the shop on line thing. You get home from work and there is a box just waiting for you. It is almost as good as xmas.
Today was a gym workout devised by the trainer (evil, evil) His workout tonight consisted of arms/pecs stuff and I can hardly move them right now. (evil, evil)
warm-up run 1.0 miles at 2% incline 6.0 mph
swiss ball push-ups (hands on ball as wide as possible, push to your chest)
3x15 (bw)
flat bench db press
1x15 (20lb)
1X12 (25lb)
1x10 (30lb)
standing x-chest db curls
1x15 (15 lbs)
1x12 (20 lbs)
I quit before I did the 3rd set because my right elbow was pained a bit. Anyway this workout was incredible for me because I saw so many huge veins in my arms that I hadn't seen before and I could also see that I am starting to get bigger in my arms. It isn't noticeable when I leave the gym but during the curls man it looks cool. Now I know why that is the main thing I see the guys doing at the gym. It is the vanity exercise.
Another cool thing about the workout is that I was working out with the 30lb weights which are HUGE looking to me. I remember back when I first started and I was doing these exercises with 7 or 12 lb db every time. I remember feeling a bit self aware about that and admiring the fact that these other guys could lift the heavy looking weights. Tonight I felt as if I had arrived as I was lifting with the big boys.

Vascularity -- some love it and some don't. I get 'em in my forearms quite often, but not the biceps as much. Of course I don't do curls, so maybe that's my problem?

Vascularity is cool. You'll also probably get it with upping the calories (especially carbs)
I can be sitting with Bob and watching a movie, and if we have popcorn or something else that is carby.... the viens in my feet and hand pop big time. I've also seen them in my forearms.

It's actually kind of weird looking to me. Fortunately as soon as I put down the weight all my fat covers the veins right back up.
Oh yeah and on the "incredibly stupid" side of the things you see at the gym. Our gym has this program whereby people can sign up for free personal training sessions with trainers. They are supposedly group sessions but yesterday's class was really small so it was 1:1 from what I could see. Anyway there was this trainer who was working with this lady of some girth (not too bad) who was about early 30's looking. She was soft so obviously not accustomed to this type of workout. So he takes her to the free weight area and sets up an Oly bar with 10 lbs on either side and then proceeds to have her do deadlifts. His demo was pretty nice and he arched his back and looked up and all that but he neglected to really give her any direction on form. So I stood there and watched with my mouth agap at her picking that bar up with her rounded back and head down all the way through the lift until she was upright. She did this 5-6 times. Her face was red and puffy and I know for sure her back hurt like hell and will hurt like hell today. WTF???? In this case free definately isn't.

Paula that Avitar makes me crave fudge brownies everytime I see it. That so brings me back.....
Tonight when I get home, I'll look for something else

No it is cute as can be. I was not complaining at all. It just takes me back to my Mom's kitchen when I was allowed to lick the spoon. This was back BEFORE I learned about food scales.

Stairs with 40lbs of weights: He had me go up and down the stairwell 15 or 20 times. I had 20lbs in my hands. Last time we did this I had much lower weight and doing the steps two at a time hurt my hamstring. Today no pain at all. It really was easy actually. I did have to stretch to hold the 40lbs but my legs did super well.
Once this was done we did squats. He made me wear the weight belt just so that I got used to how tight it was and how it felt on me. He said that I didn't have to wear it all the time but I needed to learn how to put it on and how to lift with it pressing against me. To tell the truth the first couple of sets I wanted to puke with it.
1x20 bw (we worked on my form a lot here)
1x15 65lb (again worked on form)
1x12 85lb
2x10 110lb (yipee finally I busted into triple digets! I didn't feel like it was too hard either. I have a long while to go. He was really happy with how deep I was going with these and I have managed to work through my previous imbalance.
Single Leg Squats
This one was interesting. I cannot recall how many of these I did but it went very slowly. This exercise hits my hamstring tendon right where it was injured. So we worked it until I could not handle the pain anymore. It was impreitive that we exercise this obvious weakness so alas I have some more rehab to do before I am 100% better. I am okay with this and very grateful that I have a person to help me with this.
On food news the trainer who is a body builder and has a bunch of competitve builders as clients, met me as I came into the door. He asked me how the gain was going and I told him that I am eating 2300 kcals a day now but that my metabolism seems to be moving upwards. He told me I need to stop screwing around and get the kcals up to 3k or more a day. He said I can do it with Myoplex delux or N-Large type of product. He showed me a pic of him back in the day and it was incredible. He said he was doing 8K a day. I asked him if he "juiced" and he said that he did.
Is this really someone I want to be taking advice from?
My trainer also suggested that I start looking at massive gainers since I keep hitting walls with eating. I am already doing 3 or more protein drinks a day and 2300 kcals makes me fill so full even so. Anyway... I guess I will go at least seek these out. If I can drink 1K perhaps this will work.
For my homework I was instructed to examine pictures of buliders (winners and loosers) and to look at my own body and to give him an analysis of what areas I think I need to work on. I asked him if it wasn't the case that he was supposed to do that for me and he laughed and said he has already done it but I need to go through this exercise as a learning experience. I am not really interested in body builder per say but I guess that is sort of what we are doing in our contest isn't it?
Finally he gave me my workout for Saturday (it looks fun) and told me I was to take Friday and Sunday as Rest days. He said I could do a light run on Sunday if I wanted to but my muscles need rest. He also told me I could cheat for SuperBowl party if I wanted to.
When I've had to up my calories I find it easier to add calories with milk and protein powder. Is your trainer making you stick with certain ratios while you gain? Cuz honestly, you might have to add more fat to your diet to get your calories up.

My macros have been loosened though I will likely still try to maintain mostly. He said to concentrate on getting more carbs in as I am already getting over 200g a day of protein. Mostly he says I just need more cals at this point. I am already doing 3 protein drinks a day just to get in 2300 cals. I need to change that to mass gainers instead and that should solve the problem. We'll see. I feel so bloated already.... I cannot imagine at this time trying to get in so much...... Blech.... Good news is that he set the timeframe for the cut in April or so. At least I know there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I so prefer the cut to this.
I've been using Nitrean protein shakes from At Large Nutrition - Your number one choice for nutritional supplements. and I know they have some gaining products, too (Maximus, I think). Chris, the owner, is super-responsive and I'm sure he could help you out. I can only vouch for the Nitrean and it's the BEST protein shake I have ever tried. And, I've tried a ton!

Thanks for the link Ms Jane. I will start trying some of these. I am VERY VERY picky about these protein drinks. Most of them I cannot get down. I guess I will have to learn to drink while holding my nose.
....So jealous of you getting to eat more and more and more lol.

This is SO not fun. I just ate yet another meal (burp) and my gut feels like it is going to explode. The weight belt during my training made me want to puke because I am so full.
Pictures this week will be very interesting. I am going to look like the Good Year Blimp.
Today is a rest day so no great workouts to post but two interesting updates.
1. I set up a date for this evening with a person I have been meaning to get to know. We decided on business causual as the way to dress mainly because I have no nicer clothing anymore that fits. In my mind I picked out this pair of black slacks and nice jacket that I was going to wear. This morning I put those pants on and they are at least 3 inches too big in my waist and the butt is sagging. Oh man. I just bought these no more than 3 months ago. Three months when you are lifting is a whole 'nother wardrobe I guess. So I will be off to the store during the day in an attempt to find something suitable for this evening. The real problem is that I can no longer buy clothing in the women's department so my hope is that the teenager section has something that looks like slacks. (unbelieveable)
2. I stopped by this body building store last evening and I was talked into a bottle of this stuff called CytoGainer. My friend was with me and we both bought bottles. I got chocolate carmel and he chocolate malt. This stuff is like crack. It is actually too sweet for me to drink but it makes AWESOME cookies. 4 scoops makes up 3 cookies with 567 cals, 54g of protein and only 8g of fat. Very nice marcros and if I eat just three cookies a day I think I can get a handle on this weight loss.
This has been such an amazing and interesting journey so far. I can't wait to see where my body finally ends up.

Actually would be except I really am quite sick of buying new clothes at this point. I literally have gone through 2 wardrobes in the past year. I did a first clean up after I hit 135 lbs. I stayed at that weight for a really long while and thought that would be the end. Then I started to lift. Sigh.... I am only 9 lbs lighter but totally reshaping my lower half.
It is really fun for me to watch my body change over the course of a month. I am thinking of developing a plotter of some sort to do graphs.... OMG I am such a geek.
BTW: Just got back from the store and bought this blouse and under it I am wearing a nice sleevless tank. I took off the blouse and OMG my arms had muscles. So I stood in the dressing room and flexed. I about fell over at what popped out at me. I am going to scare the hell out of this date if I do that. LOL!! I can't believe this is only month 1 into the lifting program.
I generally don't like to eat or like food so "dieting" is easy for me. Imagine my surprise thati dieting for me means to eat more and eat even when I am not even remotely hungry. Even so with great effort I have been managing now for most of this week to get my 150 grams or protein, my 1400 cals and my gallon of water.
I told you back then I was ready to change and opened minded. It isn't easy but it is effective. I am forever grateful for all the support and advice you guys have so freely given.
