Count me in.. I was thinking like .. hmm didn't she have her b-day not too long ago? But then again.. I'd almost forget my honey's b-day , never mind the b-day of friends.. which I actually really don't remember.

Never mind.. you can always have a 45 + 1 trimester b-day

It looks like you started it inadvertently when you posted your final challenge pics--you pasted text from an earlier challenge post?

LOL! Yeah he is doing a stellar job with me. I am up about 11 lbs since that old AVI. This is an awesome bulk so far and I still have 3 months to go. I could not have done this well without him by my side and kicking me in the ass.

So here I am attempting a front double bi. (give me a break, I have only been training a year) Okay my confession.... I pulled this pose in Nordstroms the other week in this darling little black evening dress. Cracked up everyone!

Thanks Espi! Tom and I were doing IM this evening and he asked me if my AVI was recent because I was so ripped. I told him that I was ripped in that AVI because I was at 11% or so body fat and it was taken in summer. I then explained that I am big and bulky now which looks different. So he convinced me to change the AVI since I am bulking.

It was cool to hear his response to it once I posted. He said, "You are bigger but softer." Which is exactly the way it is supposed to work! the trick is to not get TOO soft. He also was suprised to learn that I am gaining less than 1lb a week so the bulk goes slowly like the fat loss is for people. It is probably good for me to post the different Karlas as I go through these different phases and perhaps others will find benefit in seeing what it is all about. Body recomping is fun!

I agree with the "bigger but softer" thought. I wouldn't so much agree with the "big and bulky" in how the rest of the world generally thinks of that. You look great as always!

I can just totally see you do that pose in a cute dress. Once you start posing in front of a mirror and want to get it done the right way, you get a lot of promiscuity going on and want to flex everywhere.. including in 'improper' places or wearing the 'wrong' dresses

Where or what is Nordstrom? A very fancy restaurant..?

Then you also find out how hard it is to really do a proper pose. The pix I sent to you weren't with a proper pose, and it's really hard to get it done right.. one would actually need to take lessons. Did you see the must-see-bb-classic "Pumping Iron" ? Arnold even took lessons from a ballet teacher.. they didn't have special bb posing classes at the time like they have now. That's one of the charming aspects of how they used to train back then.. everything was just at the beginning. No scary depletion methods either (DNP, Lasix and whatnot).

Thanks girls... It is true about looking like a bodybuilder now and that is one of the things that prompted me to stop posting regularly to this log and focus more on the work. This started about 2 months ago when I went bra shopping at Nordstroms. The personal shopper offered to measure me so when I took off my shirt she immediately said, "Wow, you do weights don't you?" and then she told me that she has seen other women who did that and it changed their physiques to where none of their clothing fit includin their bras. (That's the place I was in at the time)

Second thing that happened about the same time is that the group of real bodybuilders at the gym started to just talk to me and accept me into their group. I never approached them or said anything to them. They started to talk to me. Then random people at the gym would ask me what show I was preparing for. This happened to me just last time I was at the gym in fact when I was doing weighted dips.

On one hand this is exciting but on the other hand I am suffering from deamons from it. This look isn't exactly accepted in society you know. The first skirt I tried on at Nordstroms in fact I was embarassed. I liked the skirt okay but did not know if I liked it without heels so the assistant brought a pair of heels. As you girls know putting the feet in heels makes the calves POP and my calves are freakishly big (they are pressing 10 big plates now). I looked so much like a guy in a skirt in that configuration. I could not buy that one. I am struggling a little bit with making this look work still.

But that little black dress... Oh my... It covered the manly calves and I rocked that bad boy provided I wasn't posing. The assistants were like... "You don't even have any of the cheater undergarments on!" They said they were jealous.

I had a guy friend with me there for support because I am having some body image issues right now. He rolled his eyes. The rest of the ladies cracked up! By the time I was in this dress everyone knew that I was bodybuilding so not too much a surprise. Still it totally blew the look of the outfit!

I agree with the "bigger but softer" thought. I wouldn't so much agree with the "big and bulky" in how the rest of the world generally thinks of that. You look great as always!

Thanks deary.... Big and bulky is relative isn't it? I will always be a lightweight. Me and my 130 lbs in the bulk. LOL!

Happy Holidays!

Nordstroms is a high end department store. I shop there because they have these personal shoppers/assistants who do all the hard work for you. Once you pick your outfits they call an in-house tailor up to make all the clothing just right. It costs a big boatload of money more than other stores but for me it is worth it because I HATE to shop for clothing and this makes it easier.

I have the movie to which you refer and love it for the same reason. That said Arnold was a TOTAL JUICER so they did have some of the stuff that they have today.

I just want to wish everyone on here happy holidays. I am not sure how much I will be online during these next days. I am totally snowed in so have nothing better to do but my electricity and internet are spotty. I have been snowed in now for 1.5 weeks and I can't seem to find my car. I think it is that igloo looking thing sitting in my driveway here.

Happy holidays to you as well!

We've had a fair amount of snow recently, although today we're getting rain. A little cold weather following and we'll have a bit of a nightmare here.

I did want to stop by though and tell you how much I really like your new look. It may be a little softer, but definitely looks stronger.

Thanks to all of you. I am looking forward to 2009 with much anticipation. I have not yet really set my specific body comp goals for 09 but I am sure to have this discussion with Alan in the next weeks. Right now I have an idea of a path but he might have a twist or two for me. He always seems to so far...

For the time being this bulk is going so well it is hard to believe. One of my bodybuilding trainer contacts actually noticed that I am begining to show an X frame now. This is so exciting to hear and see. Yet for me what is even harder to believe is the strength gains that I am making this time around. I just keep doing more and more every week. It is almost scary how fast the gains are coming. Everyone is worried I will injur myself. I am being very careful as a result but still am able to progress so far and stay safe.

With respect to the personal training thing progress is steady forward. So far all the reviews and feedback that I am receiving have been positive. I gotta admit also that I am enjoying it. Basically I just get to work with people, teach them and talk about their goals and help them to see the path to those goals. What could possibly be more fun than that? LOL!

Happy New Years to all of you right back! I am excited to follow all of your progress over this year.

This is exactly how it is for me. I'm not a Miss Perk or the cheerleader type, but I love developing the trainer/client relationship. I think I get as much out of it as they do. Every client is different and provides a new learning experience/challenge for me. When I first started (and I've just been at this a little over a year, so I still consider myself a novice trainer with a ton to learn), I was amazed at how people really ate up the personal attention I gave them. It is really gratifying. Although I know you've had a lot of opportunities in other areas of your life to really help people, it's new to me and I love it. It is a blast!
