For some people carbs are death. They just burn right through them. You need to do some serious debug here I think.
Thanks Karla - I'm kinda distracted today (will try to log about it in my own log when I get a few minutes) but I will take this topic back to my little hamster log and try to figure out the hunger thing a bit more... You have good questions and yes - I need a debug!

Great job on the workouts. You are by no means stupid. You actually are probably one of the more insightful people I know about eating and lifting. It really is amazing how all this stuff comes together and what a fine line just a few 100 calories can mean when lifting.

Your doing great!!

No time to do anything but post and run right now. Just wanna log workout.

Today's workout with trainer = push/pull workout. It was also a very mentally challenging workout for me. He was in very good form today and pushed me beyond exhaustion on almost every exercise and then dogged me about not eating every time I gave in. He would push me until I almost gave up and then he would say something like "I had better see your arm fall off or puke coming out of your mouth" which would keep me moving a bit longer but ultimately I gave out. He said the lack of food was making me a weak warrior. Of course all of this pissed me off.

Warmup
10 min tready 3% and 5.0 mph

Superset 1 (3 times)
Punching bag with 7.5 lb dumbells. (50 puches each hand)
Prone jack-knife only with a pushup between each one and (oh yeah) hands on an upside down bosu. (x12)

Superset 2
seated cable pull downs
3x15 (2 plates)
pull-ups (assisted)
3x10

cable pec flyes
3x15 (2 plates)

trainer pull (he sits on something with 2 towels and I grab onto towels and lean back and then pull on the towels. I cannot ever release)
3x10

Then we went and ate lunch with this nutritionist person. Did not get into too much discussion. He just wanted us to meet. This was the worst ass kicking I had in a long while and I am motivated to eat just to avoid this from happening again.

About 30 min after lunch I did a 30 min slow job on the track. HR 140 ish

Were you normally able to do more volume or have more strength?

This was his way to make it absolutely clear how you need more food to recover from workouts... not nice of him, but very effective.

Thanks for sharing, Karla. It's such a great learning experience to watch as you seek to find your balance in all of this. Finding balance is what each of us needs to do. It's so important. I know we each have to find our own balance, but watching you get to the place where you are lifting strong and recovering well without gaining is such an eye-opener.

Just checking in before I go away for a few days. When I get back, I'll be hoping to find you are dealing a bit better with your eats!

You know Epsi, I really don't know. From what I can tell, he (as a rule) doesn't really push his peeps to failure. Mentally it is not great and it took me 3 full days before I could move without pain. Not many people would train with him if he did that as a rule. This was a very effective way to show me that he means business and I need to do what he says.

Now here is the big kicker in all of this. Thru this week I have not been able to get my calories in despite this lesson and late last night I was nearly in tears talking about this dilema with Brent. It was already Sat night and I was 1500 cals behind my goal. I had analysed this issue to death and I kept insisting to Brent that it was physical not mental but by then I just wasn't sure. I mean I got 3K cals in when I was bulking. It just didn't add up. Brent suggested then that I talk to Bruce about this. Bruce is this great Body Builder in our town who owns a store where I get all my gainers and fat burners. Last time I saw Bruce he sold me these fat burners called Hot Rox. He told me they had caffiene and other ingredients that would help me drop weight. It then hit me. These damn pills had an appetite supressent as well.

I never told my trainer about these pills. I bought them from a source I trusted and I wanted to try them. I did not know if my trainer would approve or not and I wanted to try them. Anyway, long story short is I stopped them today and my ability to eat is back!!!!! I am not in need of therapy after all. I am in need of a kick in the ass for my stupidity. My trainer and I conversed today and I told him that I was cured. Of course then I had to tell him why. He is pretty angry with me for not disclosing that one. I am glad I told him today which will give him a few days to burn off the anger at least. He told me a lot of reasons why those are bad suppliments for me to take and also said that the disclosure issue is a real issue. But then he conceded that the first season is the time for stupid mistakes. So I think he will forgive me after some sort of lecture on Tuesday. At least I am hoping he does.

Anyway I am happy as hell today and my stomach feels good again finally. I ate my calories with no issues, had hunger and everythin. I even think I will even be able to get in the deficit. It would be great to go to him with the 1700 daily met since I have this other issue to deal with now. Cripes.... I wonder if all clients are so "high maintenance"?

That crisis over with the first week of vacation so now back to the slow cut and heavy lift program!

Yes everything is about balance and about root causing failures.

They SUCKED so badly. Funny thing is there was this other client there who just finished with her trainer. She stayed around to watch me do this superset. She cheered me on through the prone jacknife set and declared that she was sure I would not make it to 12. She left mightily impressed.

I thought for sure until last night. I am pretty sure that I have my issues now squared away. Dooop! Don't take fat burner pills if you are a type A personality.

Real quick before I go to bed... Last couple of days workout...

Friday - walk 40 min (HR 125 or so). Primarily a rest day as I was so sore.
Sat - Run 30 min (HR 135)
Sun - Run 30 min (HR 135)

Mostly pretty easy workout days as our Guitar event wound up into a performance on Saturday Night and then an ending today (Sunday) I am now back at the farm for my second week of vacation but it isn't really a vacation 'cause I have some friends here too. One of them is a certified Russian Kettlebell trainer so I will learn a few of the movements from that. He bought me two kettle bells. (Let's see, one is 24lbs and one is 35lbs) He says I am scarily strong for a girl. He is going to teach me to swing and do a Turkish Get Up. I am looking forward to that. Of course my trainer will meet him first and inform me what I can and cannot do wrt this new tool.

Anyway.... Great event and I will post a full write up and catch up as I can get the time to do so.

I'm glad you stopped taking these pills. As a manufacturer of fat loss supps ourselves we decided to NOT make the typical fat burner pill, viz. NO pill that would make you feel too energetic or stop appetite.
I've been a victim of overusing ephedrine myself and while it enables you to work out hard while you're not eating enough, it can also destroy your health if you continuously undereat and are overreaching at the same time. It didn't happen overnight but over a period of almost 1 year I slowly destroyed my own health.. it may not have been just the EC combo but also the continuous very low carb diet whcih makes you burn through more B-vitamins which I happen to absorb very poorly. Turned out I had a major B12-deficiency that wrecks havoc on your health.

For short term results the typical appetite suppressant can be 'fantastic' but long-term it spells disaster. And the nasty part is that they make you feel great, hence why this stuff is so attractive.

I'm glad you are off those pills. You are so strong-willed and determined - the last thing you need is drugs to help you along... gainers are just ways to get calories, but the fat burner stuff is a bit more... complicated - as you realized! I admit to trying some "natural" appetite suppresants in the past, but I could never tolerate the side effects (jitters, insomnia - even on just one pill!). Which is good because in the long run, you are better off doing this yourself without stimulants!

Most clients are high maintenance in one way or the other... you're just "special" because you don't need to be pushed to work harder and something tells me you don't whine - you have to be watched closely in a different way!

Yeah, a lot of fat burners have appetite suppressants, so that you eat less and have all the stimulants to speed fat loss (in theory). Helps them work better. For people who'd overeat and not move enough, I guess it does seem like a good solution, but you're not those people. Glad you realized the issue and got it fixed! Always a good feeling to be back in control of your body.

Welp he already did the "kick my ass" one so he can hardly do that one again. My guess is that after the "talk" my workout will be fun.

I think I am just going to have to endure some form of lectures and of course some teasing for awhile. I was pretty light hearted about the confession. For one thing I was just happy to have found the issue and then I had the peanut gallery of my friends in the room. All my friends were teasing me about it. When I was on the phone with him they were laughing in the background saying stuff like "Confessions of the Diet-Pill-Taker" I was in a partying kind of mood just coming from the stage the night before and the pressure of the concert and camp gone and the partying had started. My trainer told me to have fun yesterday but to not go carbo-loading and also to be careful with the Vino. Like I said he was angry but it was controlled. My guess is by Tuesday it will all be boiled down to making sure that I understand what I did and then to move on. It was just a stupid mistake that I could easily have avoided if I had consulted him first.

Workout with trainer went great. Only a tiny bit of talking about thermigenics (sp?) and then it was over with. I have a friend with me who is Russian KettleBell Certified so we worked a bit with that doing swings and turkish get ups. Then we did bench presses (85lb) and dumbell deads (45lb)e. Just basic stuff. I tried to cancel Thrs session so I could go to the beach. He talked me out of it so am slated to do quads and back that day.

Still just no time to post or keep up with the board as vacation time is away from computer time..... I will catch up as I have the time to do so! See ya!

Hey Bytsi... I can't wait to get into your and others logs again to see what you are up to...

In the meanwhile just 3 more days of vacation left and need to log my activities...

Yesterday we logged a 1 hour walk along the beach.

Today was trainer day and I did a back workout. This included learning how to do cleans properly!!! Yeah! I am finally doing some oly type stuff.

After the training and a big meal of tuna (yum) I took a 5.6 mile walk with my friend and my schnauzer.

Lots of NEAT type of work this past week in between events with friends.

The Diet thing is going fabulously!!! My appetite is back and eating is easy again. I am down to 123lb (a new low) and the bf% is still creeping downward. I thought for sure I would hit a wall in the weight loss by now.

Tomorrow is lunch with the girls and then a wonderful house concert in Salem. Saturday I drop off my out of state friends to the airport and then pick up some in town friends for wine tasting in the country followed by a big BBQ and sleep over at my house. My trainer is having a b-day on Sat and is going to use my place as the place to hold his event. Since the house and farm is already prepared for guests I conceded. It will be fun to party with all these young men and women who are also trainers. Then on Sunday my daughter is arriving from LA to visit for awhile. On Monday it is back to work.... Whew.... Where did all the time go???

Wow.. wonderful update.
I'm so happy everything is going so smoothly again for you. Lots of fun to be had (vacation, visitors, DD coming) and your appetite is back and yet bf% is dropping.

Sounds like you're having a great vacation. They always seem to go far too fast. Enjoy your weekend plans, then back to the grind.

Today is "back to the grind" day and I am ready to roar. I feel strong and happy after an amazing 2 weeks of down time. My diet stayed very close to good even with all the parties and eating out. My exercise was minimal to non-existent. I did take several nice long walks and lifted with the trainer 2x a week but other than that it was pretty restful.

Body image wise there was significant growth for me this weekend. The first boost came to me when I was at this party with these people who were all 15 years younger than me. I worried about this actually for some reason. Turns out I had the hottest body of the group!! They were all asking me what I did and am doing. On some levels this is really fun but it is actually getting a little bit "old" having to explain it all to people. This is especially true because I then have to hear all the excuses about why they cannot lose weight and why eating less than they are burning won't work for them. This is then followed up by which of the drugs and other "magic bullets" of weight loss are the best. (yawn....) My trainer advised me yesterday to just tell people that it is good genetics from now on.

But even more cool than that was the meet-up with my daughter and her ex-husband (now friend) last night. Neither of them have seen me for 6 months. He saw me first and his jaw dropped and he said, "Oh my God she looks like a tri-athelete". When my daughter turned to look at me she was speechless for some time and then she just gushed with praise and hugged me. After our dinner we wanted to do a walk but I did not bring any light clothing so I borrowed a pair of her shorts!!! You guys do not understand the significance of this. My daughter has always had such a beautiful body and yet here I was fitting into her shorts. When I was in shorts I noted that I was leaner than she. This is the first time ever that I had a leaner and more athletic frame than she. Don't get me wrong, she looks amazing to me and much better with a bit more fat on her skinny little bones. She has a very female body now and I have a very athletic body. It was very cool for me to realize last night that our body types are different and that I can appreciate both.

So I am feeling amazingly good about things right now. The bf% loss thing is going well and as the fat strips away I am seeing a very lean and fit person underneath. I want to eventually beef up all the leaness that is happening but for now I am enjoying this little path I am taking. I have big plans now to continue working my composition but for today I can say that I have arrived. I truly am very happy with my body (even its imperfections) and feel blessed over and again for being given the tools to understand and work it.

Tonight I am doing a good quad workout! Yipee back to normal! I also now can catch up with all the other logs. I missed you guys.

karla, thank you for always posting about the emotional part of this whole journey. I have learned alot from your postings, even though your issue has been eating enough, and mine has been eating too much.

congrats on the contentment with where you are and where you are going.
