It's really not that attractive. I would probably opt out of them if I really had the choice. Since no choice I will enjoy them in a sick sort of way.
I am also very veiny--I know what you mean. Especially on a hot day and if I've been lifting, I feel like I look like the a cartoon Hulk or something. But then, I also wish I could add about 5 inches to my height (I'm just a wee 5'4), so what are you gonna do?!
I am loving this lifting buisness but sad news is that my running is starting to suffer as I gain. I finally get at a deep level the point that running and lifting to get big are counter to one another.
Welcome to the club. I fight that battle each year as well but in the end I just plain feel better including both in my programming even though I'm not as fast, or as strong as I could be.
Oh I don't know about that. It doesn't matter how old they are... If they still have a pecker their intentions are always down there.
LMAO!
At least some of them veil their attempts better than others, and you know what they say about those older men, "They really know what they're doing."
Now see I go away for a day or two and you guys come into my log and make it dirty. This time I did not start it.
Nice workout in the gym tonight though I have to admit I really did not want to go at all. The sun was warm and shining and the birds were singing and all I wanted to do was to take a nappie. But I drug my fat and slow and strong body into the gym to do my hamstring workout.
Warmup
5 min tready jog at 3% and 5.5 mph
Alternate toe touches (30)
Deadlifts
1x20 (45lb)
1x20 (90lb)
1x10 (135lb)
2x5 (155lb) - Me strong like bull... Ugggh...
Swiss ball hammie curls
3x15 (bw)
Hip extensors on cable
3x15 (50lb)
Hip abductors on cable
3x15 (30lb)
Machine hammie curls
3x15 (60lb)
V-ups
3x15 (bw)
Oblique v-ups
3x15 (bw) each side
HIT 20 min on tready
3% incline 7.5 mph and 4.5 mph (1min and 3 min)
Your workout looks great! Those intervals look pretty intense with the incline. I've been trying to incorporate more "hill" intervals as well, and they really wipe me out.
And good job for not skipping out on the gym. I have the opposite problem - whenever the weather is really cold and gross I want to curl in bed and not leave. If its nice out I'm motivated to do anything.
So it wasn't you that posted the pic of some strong gal in a t-shirt?
and exactly what does that have to do with a "gasm". No... this time it definately was not me. That shirt is clean and it makes me giggle when I wear it. It says, "The bigger I get, the smaller you look" I found it in a body building store and knew I had to buy it right away. Ironically I had to dig around to find a size small.
There ya have it. This will be your regular gym shirt from now on?
No I usually wear tank type shirts in the gym. But you can bet I will wear it tomorrow for the trainer and I will also wear it to my guitar lesson and other places where people tease me about all the eating and getting "big" that I am doing. Like I said, the irony in all of this is that I am a pretty little person at just 5'4" and 130lbs but I have enough attitude for a 7' person. It was like they made this shirt just for me. Of course I belly laughed when I had to dig around for that small.
Hmmmm... So maybe is a joygasm in the shirt.

Hey thanks... This is only the beginning. 155lb is only 20lbs over my body weight. I am still taking it easy due to a hamstring injury. I know I can do 200lb for 1 rep but my buddy talked me out of trying it yesterday. I will wait and give my body time to adapt.
Awesome deads and I'm loving the t-shirt! One of Ginger's friends is suggesting we order tank-t's with BADASS printed in glittery letters. LOL
I'm just loving the irony of a girly, glittery font spelling out that simple statement!
Karla,
Read about your production company ... my students are creating their own "production company" right now. My 7th graders, in groups of 4, make 15' movies / documentaries (groups get to choose, research, write the script, act, film, edit, and produce) about the 5 Themes of Geography in our city's neighborhoods. It's such a fun-- and time consuming-- project. Let me know if you want to come up and be a guest speaker / editor!

I would be happy to visit you guys. Let's PM and see what might work. My company only consists of me and one other person though. We produced a "for sale" movie (documentary) that is 90 min in length. It took a year a half to do it on about 20 hours a week.

Assisted pulls (max reps at -50lbs)

Cardio tonight on tready for 2.5 miles at 3% incline and 5-5.5mph. I am tired from a long weekend and the stupid time change so decided to just do a nice long run at a slow pace on the tready. Just as I was starting to get my old buddy (runner's high) the woman on the tready next to me answers her cell phone. She continues to carry on a conversation for the next 7 min until I finally asked her to leave with the conversation 'cause I was trying to focus and train. Good Gawd. She was at least 70lb overweight and could really use to focus while she is in the gym too. I wonder if she is going to step on the scale tomorrow and cry because she is not loosing any weight. It boggles the mind.....

If I can really haul wts on these you can too. It is easier for me to use a barbell because it is easier to up the wts with these. Are these with a bench or without? The supported ones you can really lift heavy.

Why even get on the treadmill if you are going to answer a phone? No one can do that with intervals LOL!

I actually saw this for the first time a few weeks ago. I was at the Y and got in really early for an appointment with my trainer. So I decided to pass the time by getting on the treadmill and walking a bit. A woman got on the treadmill on my right side, and proceeded to carry on a conversation on a cell phone the entire time she was on the machine. The funny part to me was she was dressed in this badass Nike outfit, and I couldn't help but think that if she trained like she was dressed, she'd be a lot further on.
On a related note just in front of me there was a girl on what looked like an elliptical (but more like a gazelle) who was carrying on a conversation with a guy (who wasn't working out). My treadmill time ended before their conversation was done.
That's not to say it's just women that do things like that - just that it so happened it was two women who were near me that day. I'm sure the guys there do the same thing.

I'm curious what your trainer meant by the trickiness of cutting. If he wants to get you down into single digits for a competition, yes, it's a very personalized and detailed process. Otherwise you can just eat a little less and keep working hard and you'll lose some fat. You don't look like you have much to lose, even after your weeks of bulking.
Has he elaborated any? And are you looking to get really shredded?

Yes, the goal is to get shredded. My goal is 10% and possibly less for the summer. (Depends on how I feel) We are preparing as if I will show. And yes, that is where it gets tricky and personalized. If I wanted to just go to 15% or some such thing and I did not really care about keeping the muscle I think I could do that pretty easily on my own. I have around 13lbs of fat to move to hit 10% and I don't want to take away the muscle that I just gained. So far gaining has been way harder than cutting so I don't want to loose any of it. It will be a tricky balancing act in the next few months.
I have no problem with a person taking a quick call, but to carry on a conversation, she needed to go outside. Cell phones are great for emergencies, keeping in touch with babysitters, coordinating schedules, etc. When I'm in a bookstore or library, or in a place where I'm in a group, I take my infrequent calls outside.

Kate, that is exactly what my trainer said today. He looked at my form and said that quite basically I was doing them well. So I guess I require more weight. He did mention though on the lat flyes that I need to have a 45 or less degree incline on the bench. I might have been higher than that.
Today was shoulder day and again I was reminded why it is a good thing to have a trainer. I would NEVER have been able to push myself like he did to me today. At one point after a shoulder flye set I was standing there supressing a scream of pain when he places these 25lb db in my hand and tells me to start a Military press. No time for the pain to go away. My mind screamed, "NO" and I think I may have called him an asshole but I can't remember. Anyway, I could hardly move my shoulders and so wanted to quit but he stood behind me and helped me up on the first rep and then coached me through the rest of the set. By the end of the hour I could hardly move my arms. I think I swore no less than 3 times. Yet for some reason I find all of this fun..... ???
